[MUSIC PLAYING] My name is Rocky Schiano. I grew up in Brooklyn, in Bay Ridge. My dad had a successful supermarket. But after seven years full-time in his shop, I realized it wasn't for me.
In 1988, I established a CD store. As quickly as that business boomed, it also went bust. I realized I needed to make a change if I was going to stay in business. We started purchasing guitars on eBay to put inside my store and up online. Within five minutes, the first posting had sold. I realized at that point, that eBay was a platform that could really change my career.
Kristina, let's shoot that first. You want to go get it. My son, Matthew, and my daughter, Kristina, work with me at Street Sound. Together, it's a very dynamic team. Great shot, Kristina. When we started selling guitars, we would sit here all day waiting for someone to come in and buy one. And now, we wake up in the morning, and we've sold 10 of them. My business became a multi-seven-figure business. And it really happened virtually overnight.
Because eBay helped my dad's store expand as much as it did, I was able to pursue my music career. I've been very fortunate with my success to be able to open up a music studio. This weather is going to hold them up, though. That's okay. We can't control the weather. My father runs that studio. It's a lot of fun to be with my father. We get to work with a lot of children and put the community together.
eBay really has saved my career and changed my life.
