Why did we decide to leave the country that we were living in a little over 3 years ago and move to Guatemala, then Nicaragua, and then eventually onto Paraguay where we are now? It's a question that we've been asked many times over the past three and a bit years since we left. But as I'm sure you can appreciate, it's a question that the more I think about it, the more moving parts that I realize are really in place in terms of the answer to that question. And I could write a book or three about all of the different elements that contributed to the decision that we eventually made. That was to leave the place that we at that time called home.
But recently, I've been really ruminating over this question. And I've come to realize that although there are many different facets to the answer, I can essentially wrap it up in one simple sentence. The reason why we decided to look for another country to move to was because we came to a point where we truly understood and appreciated that the objective reality that we took for granted and that was part of the collective understanding that that society that we're living in shared had been allowed. allowed to be put aside in place of ideology. A number of self-apparent truths were put aside and in their place were state-approved truths that many people took on and accepted.
Now, it wasn't so much that there were greater powers that were running this program. That's always going to be with us to varying degrees. But what was really the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of our decision to relocate was when we saw so many people around us buy into the program. They allowed their objective reality to simply be taken away and replaced by nonsense in a lot of cases or flawed logic, flawed science. And there were a number of different programs that were rolled out in the years preceding our decision to leave that country. And I'm sure you probably got some inkling as to what some of those were.
Now, this isn't a matter of just not agreeing with a particular social or political paradigm. It doesn't matter if I'm blue and you're red or I'm right and you're left. Whatever your perceived difference is, there are certain bedrock realities that once we allow them to be supplanted with a state-approved counter reality, that's never a good thing. And it almost always is a canary in a mind shaft. If it was just my own decision based on, let's say, if I was just solo, I could have possibly convinced myself to say, well, yeah, the rest of this place is giving themselves away to some crazy altered reality in the name of going along to get along. But in our case, we have children and we have to make decisions that are in their best interest.
Now, that sort of willful stupidity, willful insanity perhaps in respect to allowing your objective reality to be taken away from you because it makes life easier. I would contend, in fact I'm absolutely certain that that has a high degree of contagious element to it because we saw that happen. They adopted a mentality that at some level of their rational being you was totally ridiculous. But they embraced it because that's what you needed to do to fill in the blanks, keep your job, stay in that social scene, be cool at the church, whatever the thing was that you needed to hold on to. There were so many people that allowed their objective reality to just be treated like a plaything that could be replaced.
Now, that's a sort of situation that I would never want to expose formative minds to. My children have their head screwed very firmly on. They're very smart, very intuitive, but we don't really know what the long-term effects are of being marinated in that level of social conditioning. And invariably they would have had friends, maybe formed serious relationships with people that may very possibly have had to swallow that pill in order to go along, to get along, to ensure that they would have continuing access to their cafes and families, whatever it is that they needed to stay in touch with so badly that they were prepared to let go of their objective reality. And that's for them. But for us, it was a simple decision.
Once you let go of objective reality, well, you're in La La Land. You've accepted a form of insanity where that dog barking over there could be an anteater or that tree could be a popsicle stick. That water could be chocolate milk, whatever it is that is the next big thing tomorrow or the state-approved thing. Well, why not? We've seen other things that are even more ridiculous and that just become part of the social norm in a lot of the countries that we've come from. And we saw objective real science. I'm talking about the science that actually looks for the truths in the particular thing that they're inquiring about. But we've seen those objective truths swept aside and replaced by more acceptable science. The science that you know kind of goes along with what it needs to in order to maintain its position at the university or whatever it's trying to hold on to.
So looping back to the question that is my simple response that we realized that objective reality was up for grabs and we weren't willing to play that game either for ourselves or for our family. And we've been really delighted to find ourselves in a place where we're not alone. When we talk to people in this country and indeed a number of the other countries that we've come to, I'm talking about locals and we talk about the things that have been going on and are currently still unfolding in the country that we came from and many of the associated countries. People here just often laugh. It's an open joke.
So, it's not like the world woke up one day and just collectively decided to let go of their objective reality. That was something that was obviously cooked up. It was something that was handed to the society that I was living in and many of the other places that perhaps you're sitting in now. And it was each and every one of us. It was our choice as to whether we accepted or rejected that. And it was the point where we looked around and saw most of the people who were in our circle had to some degree bought into it. We thought, well, there's no coming back from this because we're not buying into it. So, the only other option was to be the very darkest of sheep in that flock. And I didn't want that for myself. I didn't want it for my family. It's not a way that I think people should have to live. You shouldn't have to be ostracized or in any way cast out simply because you have an affection for your objective reality that you're not willing to readily give up. I think that when it gets to that point, you got to do what you got to do in order to hold on to what you know is true. Because if you don't, you can easily go as crazy as a lot of the people that have gone in this world today. And I think that's a fate worse than death. When when you go into that level of La La Land, well, you might as well just check yourself in as far as I'm concerned. And, you know, accept a jacket that ties around at the back.
But that's the answer to the question. If anyone was vaguely interested in knowing why it was that we ultimately decided to move to another country, that's the reason why in one sentence. But as I say, I could write books on it. And hopefully if things hang together for the next few years, I'm sure that people will write books on it. Because if people are talking about this in 100 years time, my hope and belief is that they would most likely be laughing at the time when the world seemed to have just lost its collective mind and allowed its objective reality to be put aside because it was politically and socially expedient to do so. Well, that might be optimistic of me and who knows what the future brings, but who is hoping to more collectively sane times. So, there you have it. Why we left the place we're living in.
