Play. This is from Louis Rossman. He's one of the most outspoken privacy advocates, consumer rights advocates, and he's been that way for literally 10 years. And he's saying the same thing. PlayStation stops providing physical games. This means nothing. Your enemy is DRM, not digital media.

Hey everybody, how's it going? Hope you're having a lovely day. Welcome to today's episode of How Getting [ __ ] I'm your host, Lewis Rossman, and today we're going to be talking about Sony discontinuing the idea of having physical media for your games and why I don't care. Many of you may be thinking, Lewis, why don't you care about this? Don't you care about ownership? I can't believe you said that you don't care that Sony is not giving you a physical copy of your game anymore. Honestly, couldn't give a [ __ ] Completely irrelevant in my opinion. And I'm going to show you why.

This is something that I see happening in the car community when people are talking about vehicles that are not fixable or vehicles that spy on you. I've gone over this in older videos. People will bring up how Tesla has a computer in it and the Tesla is spying on you and these damn unfixable electric cars and these damn unfixable Teslas. And one of the things that they are missing out on. And one of the things that annoys me when I hear those statements is by getting all the hate on Tesla. And to be clear, Elon Musk deserves a lot. If you just if you just look up the word Tesla or Elon Musk on my channel, you will find I am not a fanboy by any means. But the issue that I have with this is that when you put all of the pressure on this one person, it allows everybody else to use that person as a piñata and then take cover for the actual anti-consumer actions being taken.

He can buy every other question. which is the old Elanor Roosevelt quote. Small minds discuss ideas, medium minds discuss people or no, small minds discuss people, medium minds discuss events, and large minds discuss ideas. I got it. Jim Far a lot of small minds. The CEO of Ford was recently talking about how you shouldn't be fixing your car within the warranty period. He was fear-mongering over it while he was talking with the president of the United States along with other car industry executives and trying to get rid of this thing called the repair act which would make it easier for independent mechanics to be able to get access to what they need to fix vehicles. And he said that they could kill you. It could kill you if you fix a modern car. Now, he was not talking about a Tesla Model 3, nor was he talking about the Ford Mach, which is one of their models of electric car. He was talking about the Bronco, which is an internal combustion engine car. So, when people in my comments start going back and forth about how electric cars are horrible and Tesla's horrible and all this other stuff, I'm not saying that throwing stupid [ __ ] with electric cars. I'm not saying there's not a lot of problems with them, but you're giving cover to traditional automated by one individual group. This is the same thing as people getting mad between the console wars as Sony and and and [ __ ] uh Xbox. Meanwhile, Nintendo has a total monopoly on their entire ecosystem. How is Nintendo doing something that's infinitely more consumer and friendly, but people are fighting on if Sony or Xbox is worse? He's right that make internal combustion engine vehicles primarily to be able to do the same [ __ ] When General Motors introduced technology that was spying on everybody in their cars, they were doing it on both their gasoline cars and their electric cars because they were in Tesla. It wasn't really getting noticed as much. When Ford says that you shouldn't be able to fix your car, this is only now starting to become something that is going mainstream because people are focusing on the wrong thing.

And when you talk about physical games, yes, Sony does like to take things away from you that you already bought and paid for. They recently did this where they said as of September 1st, 2026, because Play has no limits, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased. Okay. Now, content, but they can do that to physical media, too. Exhibit A, The Crew, the game that started the Stop Killing Games movement. That's a physical disc. Do you care that you have the physical disc? Does having a copy of the disc make any change? What matters is digital rights management and required connectivity to an online server that can take any form.

I would add on top of that which is something that's similar to this is mandatory firmware requirement updates. So when a physical disc requires let's say a certain level of firmware to be updated on your PlayStation in order for that disc to run, it's basically saying that like unless you have firmware version 2.4, 4. You can't run this disc. I'd much rather have a game that has no DRM, no requirement to connect to a server that I don't have a physical copy of than I would a game that I get a physical copy of. Having a physical copy of a game does absolutely [ __ ] nothing to ensure that the game remains playable over time. And that is my point. When I see people getting angry over not having a physical game, you shouldn't care. You should be able to download your game that you get the code to and burn it to a DVD or a Blu-ray disc if you want or play it off of your hard drive. You should be fine having an only digital copy of your game. You should be excited that you have a digital only copy.

The idea that you having a digital copy means that you should forego consumer protections. What kind of cucked [ __ ] is that? The [ __ ] do you mean? Oh, you bought that. You bought it in this way. Oh, it's okay for them to take advantage of you now. [ __ ] that. Your game. The problem is not the fact that you don't have a physical copy of it anymore. The problem is that they come with digital rights management that does not allow you to do what you want with what you bought and paid for. And the other problem with it is that it requires connectivity to an online server in order to work. As long as the product requires connectivity to an online server in order to work, whether it came in the form of a DVD, a cartridge, a Blu-ray, a Kitty. If BlackBerry required a connection to a cloud server in order to work, if BlackBerry came with digital rights management, she would not be my kitty and I would not be her human. In order for you to have ownership over what you bought and paid for, it's not just about having something that's shiny that you can see in your hand. It is about buying products that are not sold with this type of crap.

I'll give you an example. Gogg, good old games. GG.com. These are games that are sold with no DRM. You can go to gogg.com right now and you can buy games that are digital rights management free. No DRM. These are games that you can download and that you can copy and then you can burn to a piece of physical media yourself. I was told that games on GOG are DRM free. Is that true? You can burn the installer parts to discs and you'll get a prompt to switch discs. Actually, playing the games from disc will vary from game to game. But yeah, you can actually buy games at this point in time that don't have digital rights management.

You won't get physical media, but because they don't have digital rights management on them, you can make your own physical media of the game and you can play it however you want. The game will work in 2026. The game will work next year. The game will work in 2036. The game will work in 2096 if the world is still here by then. And that's what matters. I want to make sure that everybody watching this video keeps their eye on the ball. Whether or not you have access to physical media does not matter at all. You can make your own physical media the game. Just because you can hold the game in your hand does not mean that they won't take it away from you. And the proof is right [ __ ] there. Demand the games that you purchase don't have digital rights management on them. Stop buying games if they have digital rights management on them. And stop playing things that require connectivity to somebody else's server in order to work. It's one thing if it's a choice to connect to their server. It's another if it's a requirement.

The only game that I play that requires connection to somebody else's server back in the day was Dota 2. It was free. Play that. I never made a microtransaction in that game. Never viewed an ad in that game. I just played and enjoyed the game. I did the same. I've never spent money on Fortnite. I played Fortnite for years.

Now, a lot of people are linking to this one very funny video. This is a video official PlayStation used game instructional video. They are making fun of other companies that not sell you a physical copy of your game. And this is another reason that there should never be fanboys or fan girls in my comment section for Tesla, for politicians, for companies, or anything else. Do you remember when Samsung made fun of people for removing the headphone jack? Do you remember when Samsung also removed the headphone jack and the micro SD card slot? Do you remember when people that bought Samsung products were proud of them because they could root them and install different operating systems on it? Do you know how can't do that? That's because many companies are not loyal to their customers. They're loyal to whatever it is that will make them the most money and whatever is easiest for them. That How is it that No. How is it that everybody can't immediately see this? How is it that this isn't [ __ ] obvious? Like, yeah, duh. Of course, that's the way it is. That's why they published this thing showing you how you could share your physical game with your friends and then years later decided, eh, never mind. We're going to do the exact same anti-consumer [ __ ] Wow. This is a really shitty commercial. These companies are more than happy to brag about something right now and then a few years later just turn around and do the exact same thing as the people that they were bashing. This video has 20 million views and I imagine that many of its views have been within the last 1 to two weeks since this garbage has been announced. Please keep your eye on the ball. Please make sure you're asking for the right thing. And please above all never be a fanboy to a company. Loyalty is Thank you. Yes, it is. So like I I I am a fanboy, but at the same time I understand that it when when I engage in fanboyism, I am I am not a fanboy. I'm a fanboy. I am I do it. I know I'm doing it and I engage in it and I say I'm doing something wrong. Fango. I I might have to add that one in there. Honestly, for your interpersonal relationships and for people that have stuck up for you and nobody else will about games on the front lines with you on this game company, politician, automaker that makes it very clear and obvious with evidence that they don't and never have given a [ __ ] about you. That's it for today and as always, I hope you learned something. I'll see you in the next video. Bye.

Now, we also have the duty not to infringe the IP rights in the process. It is in fact the manufacturers who have the relevant rights, not consumers. [ __ ] you, fatty. [ __ ] you, you fat old man. I don't want to listen to you, stupid. [ __ ] dumbass. [ __ ] idiot. Yeah, it's intentionally misleading when you purchase a game digitally. They should change it to a license to play. No, they should not change it to a license to play. they should change what you buy. Like I I don't agree with that. I I think that that's a good solution, stop gap, but there's the video. I'm a huge fan of Louis Rossman. I I've watched him probably for the better part of 10 years, if not 10 years by now. I mean, he's been making videos forever. And as you can see here, he talks about these. I mean, this is 3D printer manufacturers. is the premise. Never never accept the premise of a of ass Never accept the premise of [ __ ] This is the same [ __ ] that I say. This is it. This is another guy. And again, I feel like there's nobody saying this stuff. It's that simple. And meet the man saving 3D printing. I don't know who this guy is. I might have to look into it. And uh you're not helping. This guy has been on the front lines for your consumer rights for literally. 13 years. 13 [ __ ] years. Oh my god. How to buy the right screen. You broke it. Professional iPhone repair service. Oh wow. Look at all this. And so he's a Yes. He's been doing this forever and a lot of people have been talking about this for a really really long time. He's a vet. Yeah. This has been Matt fighting Apple for the longest time. Yeah. Because people can see how big of a problem this is. That's the thing. And I think that like anybody who's been involved with this stuff at all can see where it's going. So, yep. Another person that's complaining. Activision plans to put Halo under Activision Blizzard. Wait, what? What is this crazy rumor? He already replied. Uh, you already replied, but you can show people how SKG defended you. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I see this, too. Digital ownership is the only way to truly own your games. Uh, it ain't that hard. Does it play as part of the movement for exactly that? And because we like our discs, love or hate, Asmin Gold, he's completely right here. You can lose access to your game even if it's on disc. And then I did reply to this. DRM has le and legislated consumer rights are the final boss. Also, the problem is a lot bigger than video games. Cars, phones, computers, TVs, and more are all facing DRM entropy. Instead of looking at the PS2, try to imagine the PS7. This is where all technology and media are going. That's it. I completely agree. So, when did the UOA after watching the the quote replies here are are maddening. What is this? Can I find it? Let me see this. Yep, it's Hassan farming it. As actually stepping on the same rake that Pirate Software did, but his audience is too stupid to tell him he's wrong. Oh man, they just don't get it, do they? Why are we listening to someone that's been on console gaming and they've been the last week they can't even use a console controller? Because I want your I want your life to be better. If you are a young man who listens to Asold, do yourself a favor and stop. He's making you dumber and meaner. He's genuinely genuinely an idiot. It's hard being right this often. It really is. These people are so stupid. It's actually scary. They're actually so dumb. What is this? Us [ __ ] doesn't know. He's making the argument for me, but he thinks that it's it's a dunk. Wait, what is this? Can I find it? Asold is failing to realize that on PS5 there's like 7,500 games, but something like 6,500 are only available on digital release and were never printed on physical discs. Of course, your market is going to show a higher digital sales and most of the games are digital only. Insomniac Spider-Man had around 40 to 60% of physical sales. Logic like this is going to make a steakhouse asking why they don't sell much sushi. It's not really readily available in the first place. Has it ever occurred to you why so many of them don't sell physical copies? Has it? He says he agrees below. For reference, I agree with him that the real issue was ownership. But the route he took to the conclusion here, I don't fully agree with at all. Oh my god. There are I I I don't understand I don't understand why people don't It's not much better. Don't bother correcting them. I know these people can vote. You're literally making us point for him. Do you think this disproves anything? Asmin's whole argument is the industry is already heavily digitally only. That's exactly what we need real consumer protections instead of pretending physical saves you. Exactly. Of course that's true. I'm tired of Asman's controversy baiting tactics. The thing is that so this is one instance where I don't agree with him. That's fine. This guy seems like he's not a mindless hater. But here's what my point is. Since this person seems like he's reasonable, I'll even follow this guy. It's okay. And so I'm gonna explain it. This this person seems like they're approaching me uh he's also just wrong again. They're approaching this from like a reasonable perspective. I I I'll respond to this. There's another comment that he made. Let me see if I can find it. They can release an update on the PS5 that prevents the physical disc from being read on the PS5. So no, it doesn't. No, they can't. He can learn. No, I I I think he can learn. He can learn. It's okay. We can bring him into the light. You can take your PS5 offline so no internet and every disc that has the full game not online will function on its 1.0 state. The only type of game where you are right are online games that don't have an offline content offering. Okay, so number one, I think Crimson Desert can immediately disprove this argument. So that's actually not true. And also, why would you not expect that to continue? Like don't you expect that trend to continue? Like I mean what if what if for example the disc has a firmware requirement and the firmware requires an internet connection in order to be downloaded and then the firmware implies additional rules and restrictions based off of things that you have to do. Like that's where things are going to go. That's that's obviously what's going to happen. So I see these people arguing about this. So I'm I'm going to respond to this person in in like a genuine way. Okay. So, I think the reason why you have such a massive uh amount of these games that are digital only. So, there's a number of reasons. So, I'm going to go through some of them. Number one, many of the video games are actually just slop games that people use for farming achievements and their AI generated garbage and many of them don't actually have any functionality. Number two, a lot of the games are being renovated and then put into uh a newer model. Like, so for example, Jack and Daxter 2 is, you know, a PlayStation 2 game. So, you know, there's not they're not going to be selling a physical PS5 disc for that. And then number three is that you have a chicken and the egg scenario where less less physical copies are being sold. So, less physical copies are being made and then less physical copies are being made because less physical copies are being sold. So, it's a vicious cycle. And the problem is that a lot of smaller studios that don't have large overhead cuz like whenever you're manufacturing, think about what it takes in order to manufacture a physical disc, right? So you have to deal with manufacturing the jewel case. You have to deal with manufacturing the paper that goes in the jewel case. You have to deal with manufacturing the disc. You have to deal with the transportation costs of all those different materials. And then you have to deal with distribution to the different distributors that will then co-distribute it to the different Walmarts and Best Buys and GameStops that are out there. So this is literally millions and millions of dollars that they spend that average companies and smaller companies don't have access to. And so many companies that like maybe would make that investment maybe 5 years ago or 10 years ago, it becomes less logistically viable because the price return is going to be more minimal considering the trends in digital media versus physical media. So that's the reason why you have more of these games. And also on a PS6 the ratio is going to be even worse. And I bet the ratio was worse on PS5 or sorry PS4. And I bet this is what's going to happen with everything. You explain it so many ways. People don't understand it. They're a [ __ ] How can you help them? It's okay. It's okay. Once the reason why I care a lot about this, it's actually not because I think people think I'm wrong. People think I'm wrong all the time. The reason why I think this is important is I think this is a red herring that is misleading the consumer protections movement that we've spent so much time developing with things like stop killing games. is that people are getting overly fixated around physical media instead of actually caring about the uh you know the end goal which is consumer protections. So that's the reason why of course your market's going to show higher digital sales. Most of the games are digital only. Insomniac Spider-Man games at 40 60% rate of physical sales. So what about like every single other game, right? I mean you So this is the thing, right? It's like I mean and this is the kind of like whenever you make a a a an adjustment like this, right? It it's half. So like even at half, right? So you're saying that they're making half as much money. Okay. Well, a lot of the manufacturing costs are fixed costs because you have to rent the space, you have to pay the people for running things. So like the and this is something so like you you learn this very early on in business, right? Where it's like you have your fixed cost versus your variable cost. So like the fixed cost is like renting the building. The variable cost is like the material to to print each different disc, right? It's super simple. So what happens is that the fixed cost is too much. It's too high and the variable cost and the profit advantage from that variable cost is so low that it's not able to offset the physical cost. Dude, gas price alone doesn't make it worth it. I don't blame them. Yeah, exactly. the sales are probably Spider-Man uh special Spider-Man edition PS5s or combo deals for that game specifically. Maybe the logic is like me going into a steakhouse and asking why they don't sell much sushi. Well, I don't know if they're doing that either. It's not readily available in the first place. Yeah, they don't really sell that there. That's the reason why. Here's a better example. Why have you gone into a lot of restaurants? Like this is something that I hate. Okay, maybe I'm being a boomer on this. I hate it whenever I go into a restaurant and I have to scan a QR code in order to get the menu. Like if that happens to me, like I'm sorry, but that is a one-star restaurant. I hate it. If you can't if you can't laminate and print out a sheet of paper that says how much a taco is, suck my [ __ ] dick. It's so annoying. I hate that, bro. Like, it's so dumb. Wait, that's a thing? It's a thing in like a lot of urban areas. Like, I live in Austin, Texas. So, like you go downtown to like a nice restaurant and like there's Well, it's weird because like the nice restaurants, oh my god, they have these like elaborate menus with like leather stuff and it's like a big thing. It's like picking up a [ __ ] Bible. But like whenever you go to a lot of these like kind of um you know upwardly mobile like food truck type areas, those are the ones that have like the QR codes that you have to scan. It's middle class restaurants. Yeah, it's like, yeah, fast casual restaurants have this stuff. Yeah, hipster hipster places have this. So, yeah, I think his argument, again, the Spider-Man argument is a strong point of data on his on his behalf, but I think that it's an exception rather than a rule. And I think that if you look at the rule and you look at all these other games, you'll see a much different variance. And also, like here's another component to this too, like this is the last thing I want to say about this is that it's about a trend. If you see things going down 10% every year, I mean, like if like for example, like if you're on a ship and the ship is sinking, you don't go to the tip of the ship and say like, "Well, it's fine. The ship isn't sinking because there's no water on me right now." Because the ship will sink. The ship is going into the water. It's in the process of sinking. So, you can't you don't wait for the ship to sink before you get off the boat. You wait and then you do that. They don't understand trends. Is this another one? Oh my god. I I will I I will die on this hill. I will because it's a worthy hill to die on. But that doesn't change the fact Wait, is this another person? But it doesn't change the the fact that the vast majority of single player games have the full game on disc from start to finish with no downloading internet required. Okay. Okay. So, like that does that's not even that's not the point. Like I I don't understand. It's just [ __ ] You're 100% right. I know. Nomads out there in the trenches. There's lot. That's not the It's not even true. Also, by the way, so this is the way this is the way I would respond to this individual. The impact and the cultural behavior that is basically Grand Theft Auto 6 matters a thousand times more than the uh beast of reincarnation. Okay? like this is a new game. Uh, so this is a new video game. Uh, it's coming out. It looks like it's going to be really fun. I can't wait to play it. But let's not kid ourselves here. This game is going to get mogged by Grand Theft Auto 6 in terms of popularity, sales, and everything else. the like even if this game is available fully on disc, Grand Theft Auto not being available fully on disc matters a thousand times more than this game being available on disc. Does that make sense? No [ __ ] It already has. Yeah. And so that's what matters more, right? It's apples and oranges. Yes. Of course, bro. Shocking strays at poor beasts. No, they're not poor beasts. They're robots. A lot of these things, it's kind of like stellar blade. It's like a more naturriven stellar blade. It looks like a great game. I'm very excited for it. This shows me and scares me how many people can't critically think. I told you. I told you guys. I I I tried to explain it and I've been trying to explain it for years and I will continue doing it. You're arguing uh you're arguing against fix they're arguing against fixing the cruise ship because we have lifeboats. It's just I think that over time more and more people like this. I'm actually kind of glad that a lot of people are getting mad at me for saying this because this is going to present me because I I know where things are going. This is going to present me with two years of See, I tried to tell you guys I'm going to show this is a meme that I use. I send this to people on a very regular basis. Let me see if I can find it. And where did it go? Um, let me see if I can pull this up. I I I I post this and I send it to people constantly and this is truly the way that I feel about almost everything. Let me see if I can find it. I might not be able to because I'm a [ __ ] but if it takes me more than one minute, I'm just going to move on. But basically, I'm just getting re uh I'm getting reaffirmed and proven right [ __ ] constantly. And it's very annoying to me. Yep, I found it. Okay. Is it It's not working. Why is it not working? Give me a minute. This is a super important thing. It It didn't work. I have to do it again. I'm I'm going to try and do it again. It's so [ __ ] annoying. So, I have to Why do I have to update Why do I have to update the app every 5 days? I I I really feel like I'm updating this app like every 5 days. Why? Okay, it worked. I send this to people on probably a weekly basis. I do. I use it nonstop. Yep. Let me go back. I'll pull this up. It's valid. I know. The problem is cloud gaming will know all of this. Uh, yeah, cloud gaming will be a big issue and stranger, right? Because people are know still wanting to see it and Let me go back and pull this up. I think you're I think you're deliberately misrepresenting what the prophysical media people are saying. Okay, then explain it. This is really I'm I'm going to have to use this all the time. I am I'm going to have to use this constantly. Oops. Let me see. Should be your wallpaper maybe. No, I pro maybe I should honestly. Can you steal man? The pro- physical media argument. I think that people have a very so the strongest pro- physical media argument that people can make is that physical media can be transferred between different individuals and when different individuals want to trade video games then physical media makes that a lot easier and digital media becomes a lot more difficult to do and I think actually that is a strong argument and the only argument that I have against that is a projectionary argument which is the fact that once they could do that they could always assign a token value to the individual disc and then once that token has been redeemed on that disc then it can't be transferred to another uh another disc or another console or another user. So like I mean I I think that like I do have an argument against that. It's just that that my argument against that isn't as strong and it's more projectionary like a CD key basically. They already do that. I know. I know they do, but like it's it's a harder thing for me to argue and I don't know a lot enough about that Nintendo does that. Yes, of course. Anyway, let me let me see what he says. This is somebody you you've been you've been in here you've been in here for over 10 minutes telling me that I'm wrong. you you say about You're making me mad. I'm getting mad. I'm getting mad on the internet. No, you say that I am deliberately misrepresenting what the pro- physical media people are saying. What are they saying? and or how am I misrepresenting it? I will not chimp. I will not chimp out. It will not happen. Relax, guys. I will not chimp. I'm about to chimp. I'm I'm I'm so I'm so close to ch, bro. I'm so close to chimping, bro. Like, this is actually crazy. Like, you're getting banned. You're getting you You little [ __ ] weasel. You're done. I'm tired of you. Yeah, there it is. Champ, I I I chimped. I did. I'm not sorry. I'd do it again. So, yeah. Too bad. Absolutely. I know, guys. But it's okay. people will begin to realize and I think that this is this is the reality is that every single day that something new like this happens, this might have to be my new welcome home meme where I start posting this on a regular basis and every like every single time that a piece of physical media has a restriction built into it or there's something that's that's like uh you know reductive of a piece of physical media, I might have to start posting this over and over and over and uh I think that's what might has to happen. Put in a vindication file. I know. Can we get our time back? I know. Got. And so, uh, what is this here? Can I find it? All right. We got one more person and then I I'm I I'm not going to pull up any more people after this. Okay. You misrepresent because you act like them ending isn't also part of the problem. I want you to explain. I've got one more. I've got one more and then I've got to move on. I'm a very busy guy. Okay. I can't I can't afford to spend all my time doing this one thing. Licensing. What about licensing? What does that mean? Like I I'm I'm aware of the term of licensing. I'm I'm familiar with this word. bait it again. Backtoback bands. It's also part of people's problem with new physical media. You're saying so, so, so what you're saying is licensing is part of people's problem with new physical media. Is that what your point is? I have to translate this into English. Give me a minute. Yes, it's all pushed to be anti-consumer just like the remote physical media. Okay, so this is the difference, right? So you want to look at licensing. So licensing has always existed. It existed in the year 1985. It existed in the year 1995. It existed in the year 2005. The problem is the way that it is applied and the way that licensing is enforced. So instead of looking at licensing as the fundamental issue, the actual issue because you you can't get rid of licensing. We can't live in a world without licensing. I understand that you think that licensing is some core issue, but we can't get rid of licensing. We have to redefine, re-evaluate the consumer's responsibility versus the company's responsibility in the licensing contract that can be made between the different parties. And that's the conversation that I want to talk about. You can't get rid of licensing. And if PlayStation 2 could have done this, they probably would have done this. The reason now why it's an issue is because technology is better. And because technology is better, then they can apply a more draconian and a more aggressive version of licensing to everybody else. Does that make sense? But they couldn't just end it. Cool. See, you agree on that point? Yeah. That's my whole That's what I've been trying to say. Yes, but they couldn't just end it. Well, they could. They could they could do whatever they want. The only reason why they can't do something is if the government tells them they can't do something. Nintendo would have done it with an N64 100%. Yeah, exactly. They would have and and now that it's become and also like there are problems like new problems manifest that didn't exist back in the day. And I think that the reasons why are technology, culture, um really it's technology and culture. Those are the two main reasons why they evolve and and turn into these issues. Not back in the day, too. Well, like they do actually. So, like back in the day there were licensing differences. Like for example, um you know Coca-Cola and you know like Taco Bell, this is probably a bad example because they're owned by PepsiCo, but like just please bear with me here, is that like uh you know if they had a licensing agreement for using a piece of media with a type of taco they had, they would sell that taco for a period of time and then stop selling that taco afterwards. So licensing disputes and licensing agreements have existed for years. And another great like avenue for you to like research and look at this in is uh inside of music inside of the music industry you have instances of for example Kanye West buying back all of his masters or uh for example like way way back in the day people not having the rights to their own music because of contracts they signed with record labels. So, it's a huge problem. They couldn't take it away and remove your game. Why were they not able to take it away and remove your game? Why were they not able to do that? Michael Jackson bought the Beatles. Um, I don't know about that. Yeah, I I actually didn't know that. Wh Why were they not able to take it away? He did. That's crazy. I had no idea. That's nuts. Piracy is definitely a big factor. Piracy has been a big factor. Like, you didn't have piracy in like 1999 the same as you do now. Like people weren't pirating um Yoshi's Island, right, in the same way that they're pirating Dragon's Dogma, for example, Skyrim, Harbor. That's not the point here. It is the point. It's absolutely the point. You even are admitting it. The only reason why they weren't doing it is because they couldn't do it. The moment that they could do it, they started doing it. That means that they always would have done
