At that time, the reserve price of gold was 20 USD dollars, rather the market price, and any gold you had in excess of that had to be deposited with the Federal Reserve. One month's time was given. All nations of the USA submitted that money, all their gold, physical gold. Only those who traded for industrial purposes, dentistry, or jewelry were allowed to keep extra gold. Everyone else had to deposit their gold. This means you could keep up to five ounces, meaning up to 141 grams of gold. When this gold process was completed, deposited with the Federal Reserve, they received USD dollars in return.
And after that, January 30th, the second date is coming, January 30th, 1934. This is the date when the Federal Reserve conducted an audit of all the gold collected and declared its reserve value. At that time, the gold that was purchased at 20 USD dollars was valued at 35 USD dollars. That 35 USD dollar value is the reserve value, which is still in effect today, and the valuation of all the gold the USA has, 8133 metric tons as of today, has never been done since then. Its value is fixed at 35 USD dollars. And this is the second date in history.
After that, if we talk about the third date. The third date was in 1944, July 2, 1944. The Bretton Woods system was introduced, a financial system, which you can see in detail on the screen. In the Bretton Woods system, gold was the reserve currency, it was hedged or linked with the US dollar, and the USD dollar was made the reserve currency. All currencies of the world were linked against that USD dollar. Thus, the Bretton Woods system was started. This means gold was the backing, and USD dollar was in front. And this system continued. But after it ran, when inflation came back, and there were significant expenses in the Vietnam War for the US government, the next date is coming, August 15, 1971.
On August 15, 1971, the then President of the USA, Richard Nixon, announced on television that today we are moving away from the reserve currency dollar. The dollar is being delinked from gold as a reserve currency. We are separating from the gold standard, and from today onwards, we can print as much money as we want. Before that, a country could print as much money as it had gold, and this freedom was extended to all countries. This led to inflation, hyperinflation, and the value of the dollar in the market decreased day by day. Inflation increased. The purchasing power of the dollar decreased, which we can still see today.
But the way the price of gold has increased since then, the price of gold at that time was 45 USD dollars, 30-35 USD dollars. From 35 USD dollars, it rose to 195 USD dollars in 1974. In 1980, it became $850 USD dollars. So you can understand, the price of $35 rose to $850 USD dollars by 1980, and in between, there was a dull period of 10 years, but after the 90s, it started rising again and continues to rise. When the Russia-Ukraine war started in 2022, the speed of gold was normal. But the way Russia's assets, its foreign currency, foreign exchange, whatever it was, were confiscated by European countries, by Western countries. After that, China also saw that if we attack Taiwan tomorrow, our investments in US Treasury could also be confiscated. After that, all countries made gold their bank balance, and the purchasing of gold increased. Today, you are seeing that purchasing, which was 1000 USD dollars 5 years ago during the time of COVID, has today risen to 5000 USD dollars. So, in the coming times, what could be the price of gold in USD dollars, and will there ever be a reset button? Yes, this reset button is coming, the date that is emerging, which we are seeing, that time is definitely coming. We will tell you that date.
