YouTube is unfair. This is what someone who doesn't know how to pick the right niche will always say. Because after growing four channels, each to over 100,000 subscribers and making over $1.3 million from just the YouTube ad revenue, I have realized this one thing: you can put the same amount of time and effort into two videos. They might even get the same number of views, but one video could make you thousands of dollars while video two barely makes 10 or 20 bucks. All because video one targeted the right niche.
The niche you pick can literally make or break your YouTube channel. And so, in this video, I'll show you exactly what to consider when choosing a niche, four profitable niches that can make you thousands of dollars per month if you execute well. Plus, I'll reveal the little-known strategy to make a ton of money from YouTube, even if you're in a low CPM niche like gaming or vlogs.
All right, so picking the right niche comes down to one key factor: CPM. CPM, or cost per mill, is how much advertisers are willing to pay to reach your audience. For example, an audience of 40-year-old real estate investors has way more buying power than a bunch of little Timmies interested in Minecraft. And that's why niches like investing, real estate, and crypto tend to have high CPMs because the people watching those videos are more likely to invest in things like courses, coaching, software, and other services that advertisers want to promote.
Similarly, if most of your audience comes from countries like the USA, Canada, and the UK, you are likely to earn more because the buying power in these regions is much higher compared to other developing countries. And so, a good rule of thumb when picking a niche is to see if it falls under one of these three evergreen markets: health, wealth, and relationships. These niches usually have high CPMs because they address fundamental human needs, meaning there's always a big, engaged audience for these topics.
But hey, even if your niche doesn't fit into any of these categories, don't worry, because later in this video, I'll show you a simple strategy to make thousands of dollars a month, no matter which niche you are in. And so, with that said, let's talk about the first high CPM niche on our list: coding tutorials.
The CPM in this niche is insanely high because advertisers have a huge unfair advantage. You see, unlike some niches where you sell a product once and that's it, in the coding and software niche, advertisers typically promote products that generate monthly recurring revenue. And so, with MRR, you can get a customer to buy once and then keep paying you every single month from there on. The CPM on these videos can go anywhere between $40 upwards to even $100.
For example, let's take a look at this channel, JavaScript Mastery, that has nearly a million subscribers and gets around 2 million views per month. If we estimate the RPM, so the revenue per mill, which is how much they actually get to keep per 1,000 views, to be around $40, that means that this channel could be roughly earning $80,000 a month from AdSense alone. Now, if you click on one of their videos, you often see ads from companies like Hostinger, which is a website hosting provider, on his videos, which aligns perfectly with his audience. But it is not just software companies. Coding boot camps, online course platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and even tech career services all advertise on these types of videos. These viewers are more likely to invest in courses, coaching, and software to improve their skills and get higher-paying jobs.
And on one of my faceless YouTube channels, I actually have a video very similar to this niche. And so, what you can see here is that for 779,000 views, I was actually paid close to $334,000, which is absolutely insane. If I filter this on since upload, it, you can see that in January 2021, this video just went absolutely crazy, and from there on, it just continued to make a couple bucks every single day. So, if I go to the revenue, the RPM on my video here, which is how much I make per 1,000 views, is $43. And so, a lot of people now say that I put this into any of the other currencies, for example, this dollar right there. But if I were to do that, you could see that the revenue on that video is $230,000, and the RPM would be $290.5.
All right, so for all you skeptical people out there, let me just put this back into USD, and you'll see the number change accurately again. However, there's one small challenge within this niche. That niche number four on our list completely solves. We'll discuss that later in the video, of course, but for now, let's move on to niche number two, which is credit cards.
If you're not a tech-savvy person and you're more interested in finance, then this niche is perfect for you. The CPM in the credit card niche can range anywhere from $20 up to $50 per video, making it a very lucrative niche. The audience for credit card content is usually people looking to maximize their rewards, cash back, or travel points. Advertisers in this niche include big names like American Express, Chase, and Capital One. But hey, it's not just credit card companies. Affiliate programs, financial institutions, travel brands, and luxury companies also want to reach this audience.
If we take a look at the channel AskHappy, his channel has racked up over 600,000 views in the last 30 days. So, if we assume he gets paid $20 on the low end for that amount of views, that means he would already make $12,000 from just the ad revenue alone from his videos. And that doesn't even factor in the affiliate commissions or sponsorships he likely earns from promoting credit card signups. And that's a very, very lucrative thing because the credit card industry is valued in 2023 at $559 billion, yes, with a B.
But let me ask you this: are you the type who loves high-risk, high-reward ventures? If so, then this next niche might be right up your alley. I'm pretty sure we've all seen the documentary-style videos from channels like Magnus Media and Wella to tell the stories of successful businesses and famous figures. There are usually three types of people who watch these kinds of videos: people interested in making money online, looking for inspiration and motivation to get rich, video editors who want to learn the techniques used in these videos, or people who got bored of watching too many MrBeast videos and they just want to try something different.
Now, while the first group isn't as valuable to advertisers, the first two are prime audiences. For example, video editors are a key target for companies like Nvidia and Storyblocks, which often advertise on Magnus Media because editors are always looking for tools and stock footage to help them create better videos. But it doesn't stop at video editing companies. You'll also find ads from coding boot camps, make money online gurus, and financial coaches promoting their courses on these videos. That's because this audience is full of people actively trying to improve their skills and income.
And so, with over 2 million views in the last month, even with an RPM of $10 on the low end, Magnus Media would have earned over $20,000 from the ad revenue alone. Now, I also mentioned that this is high risk. If we take a look at what makes these videos stand out, you can figure out that this is the top-quality editing on these videos. And so, to compete in this niche and stand out, you'll need to invest in good video editing software or hire a skilled editor who can help you create content that meets the high standards in this niche.
Another similar high-risk, high-reward niche is political documentaries, especially ones focused on US politics. The audience for these videos tends to be older, often in their mid-30s to 40s, which gives them more buying power than the typical average viewer on YouTube and leads to a higher CPM. However, politics is a sensitive topic, and so your videos might get demonetized or even your channel can get banned. So, once again, high risk, high reward.
The next niche on my list is one that's been around for years and has only gotten stronger over time, and this is digital marketing. Advertisers in this space typically include software like GoHighLevel, website builders like Wix, and other marketing agency owners promoting their courses or coaching programs. Let's take a look at Adam For You. His channel has over 400,000 subscribers, but his latest videos only get around 3 to 5,000 views. And so, at first glance, you might think his channel is slowing down, but in the last 30 days, the channel has pulled in over 400,000 views. His channel has likely earned between $12 up to $20,000 from AdSense alone with only 400,000 views.
And once again, I'm not really making these numbers up here because I actually have a channel myself, which you can see right here, which, if we take these stats for the last 365 days and I go to revenue, you can see that for every 1,000 views, I earned $18.80. And so, that's not $30 just yet, but this channel is not exactly the same, but it has a couple of videos which are, for example, this video right here is paying me a ridiculous amount of money $ per 1,000 views. And this video is about a project management tool, which you might need when you start your digital marketing agency. And so, with just about 100 views per day, this video sometimes makes $15, $12, $9, and the list goes on and on. Basically, every day is generating some good money.
But even if your channel isn't in one of these high CPM niches, or you found a fantastic idea that doesn't fit with what I just told you about, there's a simple strategy to make thousands of dollars per month on YouTube. But in general, just boost your CPM. Let's say you have a gaming channel focused on Minecraft. A lot of videos in this niche tend to be short. They often just provide quick dopamine hits instead of giving viewers a reason to stick around for a very long time. Because of that, viewers might watch one of your videos for a couple of minutes and then jump to another one because they don't really feel there's anything else that's going to happen.
However, if you create longer videos and structure them as a recurring series on your channel, that will build a relationship with your audience. And so, because you're making these extremely long videos that sometimes are even longer than an hour, you will see the amount of money you make per 1,000 views go up big time. The great example of someone that knows this is James McSlay. He creates longer Minecraft videos that last around 30 minutes, and sometimes even 2 to 3 hours. And that format allows him to play 10 times more ads compared to the typical Minecraft YouTube video or channel.
And so, you can apply this format in any niche. And I recently tried and confirmed this myself. So, this video right here is one of my videos, which is about 9 minutes long. And so, there's only a couple of ads in this video. Because of that, my RPM for this video is $4. Then what I did, I took the exact same video topic. However, I made the video three times longer. This video is 32 minutes. And so, I put three times more ad breaks in this video. And if we go to the RPM for this video, you'll see that the RPM is $9.14. And so, I doubled my RPM, the amount I keep per 1,000 views, just by making an extremely longer video while keeping the exact same video topic.
And so, making long-form content is just one of the ways to increase your ad revenue, even in a low CPM niche. And if you'd like to see five more strategies to increase your CPM, just like I did on my recent video, click on the video up on the screen right now, where I'll explain to you the P format. I'll see you there.
