Electric cars, range anxiety. Everybody's spending billions trying to increase the range of electric cars. I said, "Range anxiety is two things. Range, which is a property of physics and battery energy density, and anxiety, which is a product of psychology. Why are you spending billions trying to produce more powerful batteries when you could simply make people less worried about running out of juice?"
My wife has an electric Mini, and I've got a slightly flashier electric car cuz, you know, the patriarchy. Um and I've got a slightly flashier electric car, which has about 112 kW hours and range of about 300 miles. I drove back from Wales, and by the time I'd been to Wales and back, my car said 16% and I was like, "Oh my god, I'm I'm nervous. I'm getting white-knuckle experience."
The range at 16% of my car is 55 miles. On my wife's car, a range of 55 miles is denoted as 55%. Same range, different percentage. We drive around in my wife's car at 55% all the time. No anxiety at all cuz it's 55%. But you call the same 55 miles of range 16% in my car and I'm going, "Oh my god. Oh my god, I'm going to die." Okay? It's totally irrational.
