If you are taking notes, the title of my sermon is "Keep the Faith." Keep the Faith! Everyone say, "Keep the Faith." Keep the Faith! We're in a series called "Another in the Fire," and one of the things that the enemy does is he brings fire so you can drop the faith, so you can drop the faith. He don't want you to keep the faith. He wants you to lose the faith. He wants to offend you at God. He wants to offend you at the people of God. He wants to make you sensitive. He wants, he wants to wear you out so he can tap you out, so you can quit and you can take your ball and go home.
I remember back in the day, you play basketball, you blocked somebody's shot, they get their best, "Bro, I'm good." And that's what the enemy wants. He wants to block your shot, make you feel like people around you blocked your shot, so you can get your ball and run home. But the devil is a liar! I'm not getting my ball, I'm not running home, I'm standing my ground and I'm keeping the faith. You got to keep the faith. You got to keep the faith in the storm. You got to keep the faith in hard times. You've got to keep the faith under pressure. You've got to keep the faith under pain. You've got to keep the faith. You have to keep the faith.
And the hardest part about keeping the faith is you're not just going to be able to keep the faith in inconvenience. You're going to have to keep the faith under pressure. Keeping the faith is hard. It's tough. And sometimes God ain't gonna do what you want him to do while you're trying to keep the faith. Keep the faith.
I never forgiven. I used to play football. I remember was going against Gilmer. I never forget. And the coach kept telling me, he's like, "Make sure you tuck the ball. Make sure you tuck the ball. Make sure you tuck the ball." I'm like, "Coach, I've been running all year. I ain't fumbled no ball. Damn ready for me when I hit. I hit." "Make sure you tuck the ball. Make sure you tuck the ball." Man, I ran out there on camera. I have four people hit me at the same time. And somebody head hit my elbow, and buck goes that ball. And I thought I could keep the ball. Been keeping the ball all year. We ain't played Gilmer yet. Gilmer hit me in the right spot, and I couldn't keep the ball.
Keeping the faith was like a football player keeping the ball. Whenever you're in the football game, it don't matter if you get tackled. It don't matter if your helmet come off. It don't matter if your shoe come off. Whatever you do, keep the ball. And unfortunately, the Eagles lost to the Chiefs, and it was a crucial play that determined that. It was when Jalen Hurts didn't keep the ball. He fumbled the ball, and he lost the game. And God is saying, "You can't afford to fumble the faith. You can't afford to drop the faith. You can't afford to lose the faith." Keep the faith under pressure. Keep the faith when the enemy's hit. And keep the faith when helmets are coming at your elbow. Keep the faith. Don't drop the faith.
Church, do you keep the faith when your job is hard? Do you keep the faith when the kids keep you up all night, you can't sleep? Do you keep the faith when you barely got money to put food on your table? Do you keep the faith when people come against you? Do you keep the faith when family come against you? Do you keep the faith when people hate on you? Do you keep the faith? I feel like I'm freestyling right now. Keep the faith. Keep it. Don't drop it. Don't lose it because the enemy is after your faith. You like, "You don't believe me? Let's prove it." Go to Luke 22. My God, no matter how much I preach, y'all still don't want to believe me. We go in the scripture. Let's go. Luke chapter 22, verse 31. Let me hurry up because I got like 20 minutes. Thanks, worship team.
Um, verse 31 says, "Simon, Simon." So this is Jesus talking to Simon, who is Peter. We call him Simon Peter. "Simon, Simon, Satan." Everyone say, "Satan." Some of y'all don't even believe the devil's there. He's just picking your family out. There's no devil. And he's picking you off. But that's another sermon. We're going to get out your business right quick. When you had two services back to back, your filter is gone. You just like, "I'm going in. I hope you like it. If not, I'm sorry."
Um, it says, "Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat." And this is the most offensive verse in the Bible. This next verse, the most offensive verse. It says, "But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail." And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Hold up, wait a minute. Let me put some Jesus in it. You mean to tell me the devil comes to Jesus and says, "He deserves the sift, Simon Peter and the disciples as wheat?" And Jesus goes to them and he's like, "Hey, the devil wants to see if you as weak, but I'm praying for you." It was the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. Shall not walk and in goodness and mercy follows me. And you mean to tell me the devil's going to come at me and all he's doing is praying? Praying? Have you ever felt like the enemy was attacking you and all Jesus was doing was praying? I'm sorry, Lord. I don't need you praying while I'm under attack. I need you fighting, defending, revenging, avenging. David said, "The Bible is the Lord's." Why aren't you fighting this devil?
For David. And now you got the nerve to just pray for me? And then your prayer was such an offensive prayer. You didn't pray, "Protect him, cover him, give him strength, give him." You just prayed that my faith didn't fail. You didn't care if my leg was broke, my neck was broke, my ankle was broke. I was tired. I didn't have no food. I didn't have no money. I'm struggling. I'm hungry. Jesus, no prayer for none of that. You just prayed for my faith.
And the problem with you just praying for my faith is everything could happen to my body and my life, and I could technically still keep the faith. Which means your prayer didn't protect me from no pressure. Your prayer didn't protect me from no crushing. Your prayer didn't protect me from no squeezing. Your prayer didn't protect me from no trials. There was no protection in his prayer at all. The only thing that was in his prayer was that the faith wouldn't fail. You know what that does? It tells me something. It tells me that through every battle, every storm, every situation, every hardship, that God just wants our faith to make it out. God is saying, "I don't know what happens. I don't know what you lose. I don't know what you endure. As long as your faith doesn't fail, you win." You win. In other words, if we're going back to football, God is saying, "You don't even got to score a touchdown. You just need to not drop the ball."
And sometimes we feel like, "I have to do this, and I have to defeat the enemy, and I have to do this." And after that, God said, "Just keep the faith. Keep the faith. Keep the faith." I have friends that started running after Jesus with me, and 10 years later, they dropped the faith. I got people that got on fire for God five years later, there was Luke 4, lukewarm. And I look back at my life and I saw everybody that was in youth group with me, drinking, partying, running from God, not even believing, running to different religions and false gods and false idols. And I can look to heaven and I can say, "God, I have kept the faith." Are you going to keep the faith? Because it's not about starting, it's about lasting. It's not about starting, it's about finishing. Do you keep the faith?
Now, the Bible says that Satan desired to sift Peter as wheat. A sift goes inside of a sieve. A sieve, right? And a sieve is desired. It's this little metal container, and it has holes in it. It's like a little net. And whenever you put something inside of a sieve, if there's water or any kind of liquid, it runs through the sieve, but it holds the material. It holds the elements. So when the Bible says that Satan desires to sift Peter as wheat, he was saying, "He wants you to run through the sieve, but your faith stays." He wants you to make it through the fire, but your faith walk. In other words, he wants to divide you, Peter, from your faith. And he's going to be pressing, crushing. See, Peter, when he was saying he wouldn't deny Jesus, he didn't know Jesus was going to actually die. So when I made this promise in my head, "Jesus, I will not deny you," standing next to you, but with you, once you disappeared, it's a different game now. Can stand for a living man, but you're asking me to stand for a dead man? Oh, and when you make these promises and these declarations to God, you have no idea what kind of pressure is going to be applied. I have no idea.
And God is saying, "You said you would keep the faith." And I know you lost your marriage, but you said you would keep the faith. I know you lost your job, but you say you will keep the faith. I know you're not inspired, but you say you will keep the faith. I know you've been looked over, but you said you would keep the faith. During the storms, during depression, during the fire, you have to keep the faith.
Now, Peter's faith didn't fail. It faltered, but it didn't fail. It's okay for your faith to falter. As long as your faith don't fail. Let me say it again. It's okay for your faith to falter. There will be times where you deny Christ. There will be times where you don't stand strong. There will be times where you don't be bold. There's times where stamina sets in, and you get fatigued, and you quit fighting at the endurance that you fought at in one season. But long as you don't fail.
And here's how you know when you fail: failing is not getting back up again. The Bible says, "If a righteous man falls seven times, he gets back up eight." Every time the enemy knocks you down, do you get back up? Because if you can keep getting up, your faith isn't failing.
I'm going to show you something else in the scripture, and then we're going to run. James chapter 1. When you guys are there, let me know. James chapter 1. Let's start at verse two. It says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work, that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing." And saying, "When you fall into trials of many kinds." And saying, "Consider it pure joy." Pure joy? Why didn't it say joy? Said pure joy because pure joy means circumstances don't matter. It means that that the joy is so pure that what goes on around you has no effect. So he's saying, "Consider it pure joy when you fall into trials of many kinds." Why would I consider trials joy? I'll tell you why, because it produces something. It produces something. It produces something. It's saying when you fall into trials of many kinds, it produces perseverance. And why do you need perseverance? It's because your faith will never be complete without it. Your faith will never be complete without it. Whenever you have perseverance, perseverance will complete your faith. Your faith, your faith will not fail once perseverance is at it. Because here's what perseverance does: perseverance adds stamina to your faith. It adds endurance to your faith.
See, here's the problem in life. Some of you guys then fell, and some of you guys fell, and it wasn't that your faith wasn't strong enough. You fell because your faith wasn't long enough. And what happened is you have faith at first, and then the pressure came, and then the pain came, and then the rains came, and then the storm came, and then pressure and trials came, and then over time, you dropped the faith. It's not about how strong your faith is, it's about how long your faith is. The Bible says you can have faith the size of a mustard seed, and God can move mountains. He's saying it could just be a little bit of faith. It's not about how much, it's about how much you can keep. And if you can keep the faith during the trials, during the pain, during the rain, God says, "I can move a mountain."
And some of you guys got mountains of depression. God said, "If you kept the faith, I can move that mountain." Some of you guys got mountains of anxiety. God said, "If you kept the faith, I can remove anxiety." Some of you guys got sickness in your body. God said, "If you kept the faith, I could remove that sickness." Some of you guys are having turmoil in your family. God said, "If you kept the faith, I could remove that turmoil." Keep the faith. Keep the faith. In season and out of season. Good times and bad times. Valley highs and mountain highs. Keep the faith when it's sunny outside. When it's raining outside. In the darkest hour and the brightest hour. In peace, in calamity. In season, out of season. Keep the faith. Come on, somebody give God a praise break in this place!
Keep the faith. Keep the faith. Sometimes in life, sometimes in life, it comes down to heart. Sometimes it comes down to heart. I remember when I used to box as a kid growing up. That was, that was one of my favorite sports. I would box. And I remember I was boxing this kid named Lafayette. I'll never forget him. Because I jumped up in my boxing class to fight a bigger kid than me because everyone in my class, I was kind of handling up, you know what I'm saying? Pastor had hands back in the day. Nothing crazy though. So this Lafayette kid, man, he was a tough kid. And he came fighting. He was a little bigger than me. And I remember round one, man, we fought. It was like a draw. Round two, we fought. It was a draw. Round three, we fought. It was a draw. Round four, round five. And I'm like, "Oh my gosh, it's only eight rounds. What am I gonna do with this kid?" I'll hit him, he'll come back. He hit me, I'll come back. And I remember going to my corner. My coach was like, "I don't know. Like, I don't know what y'all gonna do." I think I saw his cause. It was kind of like, "I don't even like, they couldn't even coach us because we were just so evenly matched." And I'll never forget what my uncle told me. He ran up to the ring and he said something to me. He said, "You and him are at a complete draw. He said, 'Whoever has the biggest heart to win. Whoever has the biggest heart to win.'" Oh, he shouldn't have told me that. I felt chills in my body. I said, "I got this." And then I made a decision. I said, "It's either I win, or I'm getting dragged out this ring on this earth. I'm getting dragged out this ring on a, on a, on a, on a medical bed. I'm gonna win, or I will be on the medical bed. The paramedics is getting me. Or I win." And I just made a decision. I, I can't now fight this kid right now, but I will outlast him. I will outlast him. I'm gonna keep on swinging. I'm gonna keep on fighting. I'm gonna have a lion's heart. And I'm not tapping in.
Sometimes when you fight the devil, he applies the pressure so hard that you can't overpower him. You gotta outlast him. Sometimes you got to outlast the devil when you got sickness in your body. You got to outlast the devil when you can't pay your bills. You got to outlast the devil when he keeps releasing spiritual warfare. You got to outlast the devil when you don't know which way to turn. You got to outlast the devil. There are some spiritual fights that you won't win immediately. It's endurance that'll get you through. That's why the Bible says you got to go through trials to get perseverance. Because once perseverance has its finishing work, you will be complete, lacking nothing. Some of you guys lack heart. You lack heart. You don't have enough heart for your calling. You don't have enough heart. You got enough faith for your calling. You got enough anointing for your calling. You got enough glory for your calling. You don't have enough heart for your calling. When the devil resists you for a year, will you still stand? Are you gonna cave in? Are you gonna back in? Are you gonna quit? You got to have heart to run this race. You got to have heart to keep this faith. You got to have heart to carry this gospel. You got to have heart to bless our God. It requires heart.
When we started this church, it may not mean much to you, but if you knew how much heart it took to keep Radiant Church alive, it took heart. And not only did it take heart, I had leaders. And I love them. And I'm like, "All right, gosh, next week after her, I'm like, 'We got it. We can't pay for this.'" "Hey guys, we're gonna figure it out. We will. We'll collect some pans. We got it." Pastor, her, you know many times I heard Pastor, "I don't know." I said, "We got this. We got it. We got it. We're gonna keep the faith. We're going to keep the faith. We're going to keep the faith." If God said it, it got to happen. If God said it, it got to happen. If God said it, it got to happen. If God said it, it got to happen. We're going to keep the faith. We're not going to quit. We can't pay the bills? Who cares? We're going to keep the faith. No one's coming? Who cares? We're going to keep the faith. We don't know which way to go? Who cares? We're gonna keep the faith. No condition required. See, you guys gotta promise. If you can't have an "if" promise, "if I get blessed, if you provide, if people come, if you make a way, God, I'm gonna hold the promise." Cause you said it. That's it. Which means if all of you guys leave and don't come back Sunday morning, I'll be right here preaching. Keep the faith. I'll be preaching to the seats. I'll be preaching to the lights. I'll be preaching to the TV. Because I made a commitment before you got here to God. And if his presence is here, I have an obligation. And I won't lose her step. And I won't lose an ounce or a pounce. I'm gonna come even harder. Because now I got to kick the devil in the face. Because the gates of hell are trying to prevail. And no, the gates of hell won't prevail. If you've got endurance, you think you're gonna just run over there and just kick the guy to hell and it come down? No. You may go kick to get him, break your leg. And at that point, you snap it back together and you kick it with the other leg. And if that won't break, you snap it back together and you push it with your hand. You got to be resilient.
And see, we preach the gospel, and I love it. I preach Christ, and Christ-centered preaching with the best of them because that's what I believe. But if you read the scripture, there is a mandate on you. It wasn't God's fault you didn't keep the faith. And what the blood was applied, you dropped the faith. Not Christ's blood was applied, you dropped the faith. So listen, the heart matters. Perseverance matters. And sometimes unbelievers have more than believers. Why did Jesus come on this earth and pick disciples, unlearned fishermen, instead of the Pharisees? He said, "Because these guys fish in storms. These guys fish in famines. These guys fish in good seasons and bad seasons, mountain highs and valley lows. And you Pharisees only come out here when it's convenient." And it's easier to take a heathen and save them than it is to take a religious person and put glory on Jesus. Was better off saving the world with unbelievers that he could save versus religious folks that ain't got no heart, that ain't got no fight, that ain't got no perseverance.
You have to keep the faith. And the scripture told you to keep the faith. I'll get to it. Because that's your responsibility, not God's. Well, Pastor K. Jones, God's responsibility? Well, then why do people lose it then? If, if it's God's responsibility for you to keep the faith, and the people are losing the faith every day, that makes God a failure. And if you read that Bible, he's not. We are real. We are failures before God is a failure. I'm almost done, guys. Is this good?
To keep the faith, you have to be made of the right stuff. You will not get the assignment because you can do the work. You get the assignment because you can take the whooping. You will not receive the blessing because you're worthy. You will receive the blessing because you can take the beating. I want the blessing. Can you take the beating? Because as God blesses you, read the Bible, he also breaks you. And if you want blessing without breaking, you're not going to get blessed. So, so, so, so, so, so, so faith wasn't just designed to get you something. It was designed to make you something. And we all think we have this faith just to get us something. And I want to get a new car. And you got this name it and claim it gospel. I'm going to claim a car. And I'm going to claim this. And I got faith for my money. And I got faith for this. I got faith for that. That's cool. But faith is designed to make you something, not bring you something. When God gave you faith, it was designed to turn you into a better version of yourself.
Uh, Second Timothy, verse 4. You guys are there? Say, "Ready." I gotta move quick. Second Timothy, chapter 4. We're gonna jump to verse six. I mean, chapter 4, verse 6. It says, "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." Let me read that again. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." It's Apostle Paul talking. "Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing." Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
So the Apostle Paul is talking to Timothy and he's saying, "Timothy, my time is near. My time is near. And I got a couple things I want you to know about me. I want you to know I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. And I have kept the faith." Y'all, these things, these three things are the goal of life. It's to fight the good fight. It's to finish, not start, to finish the race. And it's to keep the faith. In other words, he was saying, "Timothy, I have been shipwrecked. I have been bit by snakes. I have been stoned. I have been flogged. I have been beat. I have been imprisoned. I have been crushed. I've almost drowned. I can breathe. I've been hungry. I couldn't provide. I went and prayed for people, and they got healed. And I had a thorn in my flesh that God wouldn't remove. I've been through more pain, pressure, testing, and trousing you could ever know. But I want you to notice about me: I have fought the fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." And he was selling because his time was near. And he knew his time was near because the Holy Spirit must have told him that he was getting ready to go to Nero's chop block and Nero would behead him. And if he knew his time was near, he didn't die of natural cause. If he knew his time was near, he knew he was going to get beheaded. And he was writing from the prison cell before it happened. So he knew he would be beheaded. "My time is near. I'm leaving." In other words, the spirit of God probably said, "Paul, we ain't getting you out of this one." And the reason why I'm not getting you out of this one is because you fought the good fight, finished the race, it's done now, and you kept the faith. There's no reason to save you now.
He fought the good fight. I want to break down these three things quickly. Fought the good fight. In the Greek, that word "good" means he fought a noble fight. He fought a noble fight. The spirit of the Lord spoke to me last night, and he told me, he said, "You are tired because you've been fighting ignoble fights." You are fighting a noble fight. There's only one fight. Hey, we don't fight with people. Let me tell you why we don't fight with people. That's not a good fight. That's not. If they don't like you, guess what? They just don't like you. If they don't care about you, they just don't care about you. If you're misunderstood, you're just misunderstood. And if you keep fighting for that, they're going to continue to not like you and just twist your words. Why are you fighting ignoble fights? Fight the good fight. And the good fight is the fight of faith. I'm going to use my energy, my heart, and my endurance to keep the faith. I'm fighting the good fight. And that's the fight of my life. And it's the fight against dark and wicked forces. That's the fight I'm fighting. I'm fighting to keep my spirit on fire. I'm fighting against spiritual apathy. I'm fighting against complacency. I'm fighting against lukewarmness. I am fighting a noble fight. Been fighting with my family? Why? That's not noble. That's an ignorant fight. Because your family was crazy before you fought them, and they will be crazy after you fight them. They didn't change before you were born. We were born, and they won't change probably after you were born. Which means go find a noble fight.
Then he talks about, "I finished the race." Finish. Finish. Many start well, but most don't finish. The turtle will beat the hare every time. The hare, I'm telling you, man, that thing is fast. It it shoots out like a rocket, but it gets distracted and it gets picked off by the cares of the world. Well, that turtle, step by step by step by step by step by step by step by step by step, he keeps finishing the race. I'm telling you, you may not be the best at what you do. You will not. You may not be the best. But if you have a desire, an unrelenting desire to finish, you will come out in first. You will come out in first. What do finishers do? Finishers defy the urge to quit. You have to defy the urge to quit. Every champion has felt it. Every athlete has felt it. Every lion has felt it. Every bear has felt it. Every king has felt it. Even Martin Luther King has felt it. Gandhi has felt it. And I want to tell you, Jesus has felt it. Paul has felt it. Timothy has felt it. John the Baptist has felt it. The disciples has felt it. But they defied the urge to quit. When you feel the urge to quit, do you defy it? Do you defy the urge to quit? I don't care what you feel. You have to keep the faith. Come on, give God a shout of praise.
So Paul said, "I ran the race." And when I think about running the race, I think about someone that's so interesting. I think about a guy named Derek Redmond. Everyone said, "Derek Redmond." Derek Redmond. He was an Olympian. And he was at the Barcelona Olympics. And he had trained his whole life to win the 400 meter. He trained his whole life. His whole goal in life was to win the 400 meter race. That was his goal. That was his obsession. He trained. He lived. He breathed to win this race. We'll put it on the screen. And he's out. He's out the blocks. He's getting ready to run this race. And Derek is running. He's trained. He is going for the gold. And then all of a sudden, his Achilles ruptured. And when his Achilles ruptured, he felt a kick in the back of his leg. And he couldn't finish the race. He felt like he wanted to quit. He wanted to give up. Because he's trained his whole life for this race. But he couldn't go. And at that point, he said, "I didn't just train to win. I trained to finish." And if I got to hop to the finish line, if I got to hop in glory, if I got to hop to get where I'm going, if I gotta hop to keep running this race, I'm willing to hop. Because I'm gonna finish this race. And his dad had to come down and help him. And he was crying. He was sad. He was hurting. Because he trained to win. But he said, "I'm going to finish that race, even if I got to hop."
And there's gonna be sometimes in your life, church, where you gotta hop. When the enemy comes against you, you may have to hop. To keep parenting, you may have to hop. I'm telling you, I'm gonna keep hopping, devil. I'ma hop in good times. I'ma hop in bad times. I'ma hop 'til Kingdom Come. I'm gonna hop 'til I see His glory. I'm gonna hop 'til I see revival. I'm gonna hop 'til our city's saved. I'm gonna hop until we have two services. I'm gonna hop into the next generation that's radically set on fire for God. I'm gonna keep hopping. No matter how hard it gets, I will hop. Will you hop for the things of God? God, it says some of you won't even walk. How you gonna hop? You got to be willing to do whatever it takes to finish the race. And nobody promised you you would be able to finish running. Sometimes you got to finish crawling. You've got to finish crawling. If that's what it takes. You have to be willing to keep the faith. Keep the faith. Don't lose it. Keep the faith. If it requires hopping, if it requires pain, keep the faith.
And Jesus can relate to Derek Redmond. Because Genesis 3 prophesied that the seed of the serpent will crush his heel. What heel? Achilles heel. Jesus got his Achilles heel crushed. Which means while he was on the cross, and because his Achilles heel was crushed, that was symbolic for his life was being taken. Jesus kept hopping. He hopped straight into the grave. He hopped straight into the resurrection. He hopped straight into glory. Because he didn't just look to the cross, he looked through the cross. See, if Jesus looked to the cross, he would see his death. But if he looked through the cross, he will see your life. And Jesus looked to the cross, he will see crucifixion. But if he looked through the cross, he will see resurrection. If Jesus looked to the cross, he will see himself dying. But if he looked through the cross, he will see him saving your life. Don't just look to the race. Look through the race. Man, I'm running this race for my daughter. I'm running this race for my family. I'm running this race for my church. Don't just look to it. Look through it. Look through the race. Keep the faith.
My, my music team can come up. Keep the faith. Keep the faith. Keep the faith. Keep the faith. Defy the urge to quit. Don't quit. Don't give in. Don't tap out. Don't give up. Defy the urge to to quit. I want to talk to you for a moment. Do you feel like you want to quit? Do you sometimes it's hard walking this faith journey, loving God? Sometimes it's hard. Spiritually, when I walk into this room, I can feel fatigue. I can feel it. I can feel it on you. One of the things, one of the advantages you get pastoring is you get discernment and divine insight into the room. I can feel fatigue in here. Some of you guys are weary.
