You set the darkness rising out of an empty grave. Now seated alone in glorious >> his thrones on our praise. You said the darkness running out of empty. It's who you are. You seated alone in glory and thrown on the highest praise. You set the darkest power of an empty grave. The seated alone in glory on the highest praise. Jesus, your name is power. Your name is he. Your name is stronger. Shine through the shadows burn like fire. Break every stronghold and shine through the shadows and burn like the fire.
>> Break every stronghold. Shine through the shadow of fire. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. Yes Lord. Burn like a holy fire. You are the refiner as the scripture says in Malachi chapter 3. Lord, you sit as a refiner purifying silver. Silver always speaks in the scripture of redemption. Lord, that the power of redemption, the power of refining, sanctification comes. Breaking the strongholds of sin, breaking the shadows. Lord, only you dwell in pure light. As James 1 says, every perfect gift that comes down from above from our father who is light. There is no shadow of compromise. Lord, let the fire of your word, the fire of your spirit now burn brightly as your truth is released. Lord, bringing deliverance even as the word is released today >> in Jesus name. Amen.
>> Amen. Turn to somebody and say, "I'm glad I'm here." >> And bring it on. >> Bring it on. >> Hallelujah. All right. If you would turn in your Bibles, please to Luke chapter 4. We're going to deal with rejection and brokenness. Luke chapter 4. And of course, we're going to look at a couple scriptures and also Isaiah 61 1-2, but I'm specifically going to deal with Luke 4:18 out of the New King James. Says it this way. Luke 4:18, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me." This is Jesus speaking of the prophecy of Isaiah. "Because he's anointed me to preach the gospel. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty those who are oppressed." and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. We deal with the brokenhearted. I'm going to start there. God dealing with the brokenhearted. Now, we we could start with the poor. We could move on to several different categories, but for today's lesson and hopefully tonight as well, we want to deal with the brokenhearted. And this is a place where a foothold starts with what I would call wounds. Wounds. Wounds can come in a variety of things. Wounds can come from your upbringing. Not necessarily looking for a show of hands, but um how many have experienced some mom or dad pain, right? Some some things that that came into your life on the basis of wounds, words, words that wounded. You know that old statement, sticks and stones may break my bones, but words shall never harm me. I wish that was true, but it's a lie.
>> Fact is, sometimes I prefer the sticks and stones, >> right? The the words of those that were maybe in authority over you in a young life. Maybe it was an employer. Maybe it was a teacher. Maybe it was uh even a pastor or an elder. Or maybe it was a a spouse or a an aunt or a brother or a sister. I mean, wounds can come from a variety of places. But the brokenhearted usually starts with a foothold or a or a place like we talked about last night in Ephesians 4:26 where there there was a topass a place given and usually a person will experience a wound in their emotions which then alters the original personality and in many cases it affects their mental or emotional spiritual health because when somebody believes a lie based on a on a trauma or a specifically not just a trauma but a a brokenhearted issue or words when life tragedies come and wounded people and vulnerable people a demonic spirit doesn't always but often can take advantage of a person can gain entry and perpetuate a state of Now hear me on this. A state of mourning, grief, sorrow, and sadness. One of the things, if I just step away here from the notes just a little bit, I think, and I'm I'm going to give an admonition to my team as well. I think one of the things that we often forget is that when you're dealing with the brokenhearted, you should always deal with and look for a spirit of grief or sorrow that has perpetuated itself. maybe not outwardly but has been hidden inter internally because I I if I'm just looking at the history of some of the people that I've prayed for over the last 25 some odd years I've seen people get stuck with on the basis of a divorce or on the basis of a death uh on a basis that they're still in some place mourning that loss. los. And that spirit of grief and sorrow or sadness can actually keep that brokenhearted spirit alive >> and keep it from actually closing and healing and it actually takes what is designed to be a godly thing, a good thing. I mean grief is grief is you know we see in the Bible there was protocol in in actually having a time to grieve right and I think this church does this uh has this ministry grief share uh uh here in this house and that's a great ministry there there is a way to process grief grief is a godly way of dealing with emotions and trauma that comes to life because because we live in a broken world and we live in a fallen uh nature. We have to process through these things that come to us that God never designed to be in our original intent. But we now live in a world that is fallen and broken. And so there is the process. I mean, you think about when when a Abraham buried Sarah and he asked for the place. It's the o just a side note, it's the only place that Abraham actually got in the promised land of the promises of God physically.
>> And that'll preach. >> The only place he got physically in his lifetime was the burial plot he bought from the sons of Heth in the oaks of memory. It's the only place and it's the place that generations later when they went down into Egypt after 400 years that God said to him after the time when the smoking uh uh tor or the burning torch and the smoking oven came through the covenant again I believe in Acts or in Genesis 15 God told him he says I'm going to put your ancestors and they will go into Egypt for 400 years. It was the place that Jacob leaned on Joseph and said, "Don't you dare." I'm gonna lean on you again. "Don't you dare. Don't you dare leave my bones in Egypt. >> You take me out of this land and you put me in the place that Abraham bought and where Sarah was buried and where he's buried." It was a mandate. It is significant. It was the It was the place that was the only, if I could say this, the only foothold of natural property that they owned of the promise. God just gave them a little piece. Everything else they got by faith that God would actually do through the generations. That ought to help some of us think in regard to your life is more than just you're living it.
>> That's right. That's right. Because every one of us that are of faith should be thinking three generations. >> If you're not, you're living a consumer Christianity mindset, >> right? >> It's like I just I go into Sam's Club, I go into Walmart, I go into Costco, and I just buy for me. I like volume. I like to be able to go where I want to go. get what I want to get, get out. And we treat church like that. And we treat our faith like that. Why do we treat our faith like that? Because we really don't think I'm building for a hundred years. >> Abraham was building for way more than 100 years. God told him, even with the issue before he ever gave his son on Mount Mariah in Genesis 22, God told him for 400 years there weren't going to be things that were going to come to pass. But the promise was as sure then as it would be in the 500 years when they actually broke into it. >> Now the question is, do we begin to see why are we living with that perspective? Am I living that the freedom that I'm looking for? Is it just me so I can do my thing? Or am I actually looking at my children, my grandchildren, and my great-grandchildren? Now, part of this gets me into trouble. Okay, I want to thank you for the Indian brothers that were here that were so gracious with me. They came to me and they said we can make a suit in 24 hours. I want you to know. Yes, you can. Yes, you can. That is awesome. Now uh the the what I'm saying is am I thinking just not as a church planter or as a senior pastor am I thinking as a just a Christian it it starts with the basis of my esquetology and that is a big $10 word that basically means how I think about the end determines what I do in my now.
>> Yes. Yes. >> Let me say that again. How I think about the end of how God sums up things determines what I do in my now.
>> Yes. >> Now, oh boy. Uh, Pastor Tom, you can clean this up. I'm just going to say this. I I am not a rapture guy. >> Now, let me tell you this. I'm not going to stop Jesus and say, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This does not fit on my theological train. I'll take the next bus." No. If he comes, I'm getting on the ride. But >> but I look at the philosophy of what a pre-trib rapture has done to the church >> in the last 40 years >> and it has worked with everything else of a system that has absolutely uncoupled people from actually living three generations out. It's actually focused them to live for themselves in a western theology because the main thing is >> I don't want to suffer. >> I I don't I want I want a doctrine that says I'm getting out before the fit hits the shaman. religious demon go in Jesus name.
>> All right. The the the point being if I spouse to that I I I have to do first of all you have to do gymnastics with all the scriptures that are inconsistent with New Testament understanding. But the second thing is it makes you selfish. >> Yeah. because you're actually waiting. >> Come now. Come now. >> Now, do we have admonitions to be ready for the we don't none of us know where the day of the Lord is? Absolutely. >> But when we focus all about he's he's coming tomorrow and and yes, there has to be a portion of my heart that is ready every day. But I have to live I have to live not just as a pastor but as a Christian man or a Christian woman. I have to live with three generations in mind because God always did.
>> That's right. >> That's right. >> His theology doesn't break just in the New Testament of something he's been faithful to do all along. >> Your doctrine has to be consistent. And if he's always about calling himself after the Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, he's the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That's how Jesus refuted the the Sadducees. >> He said, "You need then when they asked him, well, who's whose wife is she going to be in the resurrection? She had seven husbands because they had to marry the widow and keep the the seed and the line going." He said, "You neither know the power of the scriptures nor the reality of heaven. As of to whose wife she'll be in the resurrection, she'll be neither, for they're not given in marriage. They'll be like the angels and according to eternal life and the power." He's the God of the living and the dead. And so he's known even in his name, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, father, son, holy spirit, dealing with generations, constantly bridging. That's why it says when the last in the last days, come on, I'm going to preach to somebody in here. Says in the last days that in Malachi, the spirit of Elijah will come and turn the what? The fathers to the children and the children to the fathers. That's called a generational anointing and blessing. And it moves beyond your life.
>> It makes the generation of young people begin to think of something beside themselves that honor and strength and glory that it says in the scripture comes to the older generation. And it makes the older generation that's naturally get selfish with age >> begin to live for the younger generation and sew their life into someone else beside me be me my my my.
>> Amen. >> That's a good word preacher. Come on. I don't know how I got here from wounds, but all I was saying the reality being that we get selfish and those traumas happen with wounds and words and we reduce ourself to a cocoon of just selfishness and it's just my thing. No, the promises of God sometimes are bigger than your life.
>> The promises of God for me are bigger than what I, Brad Newswer, can do. >> Yeah. >> It goes to my heritage. spiritually sons and daughters, naturally sons and daughters, and it's my job to contend for them and to contend that they would walk not just in the plan, that God would expand that plan in the future. That's how we should live, church.
>> Amen. And so if a spirit of grief, this is where I jumped off, if a spirit of grief and sorrow can get you in and keep you mourning the wounds that you had when you were a little child, >> it will keep you from all of the promises >> that you're to be looking to with faith and enjoying living, calling those promises in beyond you.
>> You stay focused in your little world. And you miss the you miss the the blessing of the Lord that's meant to send it beyond your life.
>> Very good. >> And and what we don't realize is that's part of your inheritance. Part of your inheritance in God when you stand before the Lord at the bema seat according to 1 Corinthians 3. When each man will be judged for the things not as an unbeliever but as a believer whether you built with gold, silver, precious stones or wood, hay and stubble, each person will have to stand. Part of you being able to have reward is how much you swed yourself and put into the generations above you and beyond you.
>> Because God doesn't see things like we see things. We see things from a natural limit. We only have so many beans. God makes beans. We're constantly counting them out on the pile that we have. He's like, I don't even have a limit to beans. And so, the way he thinks about that and the way he rewards you is he have no problem rewarding you when you choose to live a selfless life. He constantly adds it to your inheritance. That's why a brokenhearted spirit is is is so grievous to him.
>> Because it keeps you from operating in an overcoming promise.
>> And the Bible says the promises are to overcomers. And one of the reasons we want to deal with the brokenhearted is it keeps them from being an overcomer.
>> Yes. because every time they come to to get to that place to cross over to be an overcomer, they're reminded of the grief and the sorrow in the wound.
>> Okay, here's a few examples of a wounded spirit. It can come from trauma, come from war, come from death, can come from accidents, injuries, divorce, rejection, disappointment, separation from children and loved ones. Often demonic spirits that accompany these are bitterness, anger, resentment.
>> Did I not have those on the screen?
>> They were.
>> Okay, there we go.
>> You can write a few of them down here. false burden. Man, that's a big one with a brokenhearted. Taking up a burden that's not yours to carry. Loneliness, depression. A lot of spirits that that come in from this that we've found that are in this assignment of brokenhearted are bitterness and anger. These aren't on the screen. Bitterness and anger, resentment, cutting, grief, hurt, pain, sorrow, disdain. You know where I see disdain the most? Disdain is a is a sneaky one, but disdain often resides within married couples. Married couples that that that have a broken heart from things that haven't been fixed, but they're still functioning in the marriage. There's a grade of disdain that they they stay together for financial purposes. They stay together because they know they're not God doesn't like like divorce. There's nothing that they can really point to that that would give them any form of biblical right or reason to divorce. But there's a lowgrade disdain about the person that gets in there based on a broken heart and a wounded spirit.
>> Now listen, God puts healing properties in the human body that causes us to heal in most cases. But if the body gets infected in the healing process is then hindered, isn't it? The very the worst thing that you could have in the hospital is to get an infection. But many times we need both medical attention and spiritual help to drive out that infection. So the most important thing to remember about demonic spirits in this realm is that I like to call them either rats or crows or ravens. They feed on the unclean infection in the wound. So when we talk about a just that's the best way you can think of it, at least it is for me. I try to always associate things and spiritual principles with natural things. When Jesus said, "I've come to bind up the brokenhearted." What's the most important thing about dealing with a wound that's been bandaged? So I have a nurse here uh that works for the VA that's on my team. great guy, great deliverance minister. But Josh, and loudly as you talk to me, what is the worst thing about dealing with bandages and wounds? Dealing with open wounds on the body, what do you have to look for?
>> Got to look for infection.
>> Infection. And so changing the bandages often.
>> Yeah.
>> Having clean bandages.
>> Yeah. and constantly keeping that wound clean for the process of healing. Now, you know that in the natural, at least we're supposed to.
>> But we don't do that in the spiritual that when a wounded heart comes, what do we do? Often times, we leave the same bandage on there.
>> Yes.
>> For a long period of time. And what happens? We don't even check the wound. we we just kind of forget it thinking that if we forgot it, the wound should have cleared itself up and gone away. And again, going back to the scriptures that we read last night in Isaiah 42, my people are robbed and plundered and in holes and in pits. Why? For a lack of knowledge.
>> Yeah.
>> It's what Jesus told the the religious, right? He said, "When you see the sky is red in the morning, you declare this. When you see the sky is red at night, you declare this." You know how to discern natural things, but you don't know how to discern spiritual things.
>> Yes.
>> The reality is that often as Christians, we fail to discern spiritual principles that are as real as a gaping wound as if you cut a major part of your arm. And sometimes this is the part of where things come in. Pride comes to blind because we don't want to tell people what the wound was because often it isn't as simple as just putting it on your arm. They're heart wounds.
>> They're emotional wounds. They're things that tried to shape your identity. They're things that tried to shape how you think and how you actually judge people. And it all comes down to the interior. It talks it deals with your understanding. It deals with your values. It deals with your identity and their wounds on your spirit. And by not being transparent and open and by not actually allowing the spirit of God to put fresh, clean bandages and prayer and work through that, we actually open ourselves up for infection.
>> That's right.
>> So, we have to look at that. The next category is a prisoner. And I'm going to talk through some of this. Isaiah 61 and Luke 4. The prisoner category, we've just looked at the brokenhearted category, but the prisoner category originates from sin. And it's a stronghold that can be difficult to destroy because the desires of the flesh are an inherent part of the sinful nature. And you can't cast out your flesh. How many know it would be nice too?
>> But your flesh has to be dealt with in a different way.
>> Still spiritually, but your flesh has to be dealt with differently. And God tells us how to deal with the flesh.
>> He says, "Crucify it."
>> Right? Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. Hear it. And the life I now live. I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. One of the first things I've got to deal with in rejection that deals with a broken heart and then keeping the identity that deals with clear sin is I've got to recognize my sin of not identifying with who Jesus says I am according if I've been crucified with Christ. Because it says if I'm crucified, there's a different type of life that I live. I now live by faith and I'm constantly bringing when my flesh and my mind do not align. I bring it to the place of where I remembered where I died with him and who I am and I renew my mind. If I'm not doing that, I'm not going to have long-term victory over the issue of of a rejection or a broken spirit. Romans 8:13 says, "If you live according to the flesh, you will die. But if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Colossians 3 says, "Put to death, therefore, what is earthly in you, sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desires, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Which means this is not, this is the beautiful thing here. This is not a one-time event. Yes.
>> Everything about Christianity, there's only one thing in Christianity that's a one type event, your salvation.
>> Everything else about walking it out becomes a walk that has daily interaction with the Holy Spirit and bringing your mind and your heart under the alignment of his word. Isn't that what he told to Joshua and how to inhabit the promised land? Do you remember that? He said, "If you do all that I've commanded you, >> yes, >> "And you walk in my words and my statutes, then you will f you will fulfill this word and you will have the breadth of the land." Now, be strong and courageous and do what I've commanded you. And then he says it, he says it fully three times. Be strong and courageous. Be strong. That's Old Testament language for live in faith.
>> Yes. Obeying the word because you're going to have to obey all of it to get the promises of God means that you're going to have to want the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and to abide in the word. That's when the promises of God become the yes. You have the yes in your spirit. That's the faith. The amen is where you partner with him and say, "Now, let it be and I am doing my part to walk with you." That's why it says in in in Corinthians, all the promises of God are yes and amen in Jesus Christ. But the Jesus Christ is never him doing it all. It's always done in partnership.
>> Yes. >> He does his part and then you do your part. He can only do his part. I can't do the God part. I can do the me part of yielded will and obedience to the things of God.
>> He will not make me yield my will. Yeah, >> that's the choice that he's given me.
>> Okay. Galatians 5:24. And those who are of Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. So a de uh the demonic can be attached to our life when we tolerate sin. They feed on our sin. This is like what I said the rats and the crows. They smell the sin. there is an attraction to sin and there if there's consistent sin that smell and attraction eventually brings them in to want to live there because there's an open door and a right now I'm I I I I'm by the grace of God I operate in a prophetic gift and I have a seeing grace but I don't see like some people see I mean some people see all the time and they see in color and They see, and the people that do, and it's not just a one-off, the people that do will actually say that people that live in certain sins actually emit a fragrance that has a color and a smell to it.
>> I don't know. There's nothing in the Bible about that. But but what I do know is I've seen a lot of things and and I know that that a stronghold or a an entrapment of a sin doesn't start off without a reason >> doesn't start off without a reason.
>> And the and and what happens is especially in the body of Christ, the more we now we're dealing with the prisoner here. The more that you give into that sin, and this is an easy one to call out, but let's just take pornography. The more you give into that sin, refusing to really repent because there's a place where you like it, it's a there's a little slip in the harbor that you've given that boat. Although you say you're not, you don't want it, if you keep going back to it over and over, you actually like it. And in that point, >> you now open yourself up for a demonic residence to be there.
>> That's how it works.
>> Okay? You become a slave to what you obey. And the Bible talks about practicing. Practicing. So what does practice mean? Practice means I just keep going back to it, doing it. It's like if I send my kid to basketball practice before he ever plays a game or she plays a game, they go to practice. They're simulating things of plans and plays, offense, defense of how to play the game and score and win. The same point is you can do that with pornography, but let's just take it on another subject. Maybe let's not deal with pornography. Let's let's deal with I don't know uh how about faction and discord that I find myself over and over constantly finding issues to be at odds with people in the body of Christ. that when the Bible says, "As much as within your power endeavor to keep the bonds of peace and the spirit of unity, and I find myself by my old nature, constantly looking for things to complain, to grumble, to not operate in love, to not cover sin, but to just bring things in my mind. Even though I won't act on them, I find myself constantly picking things apart, analyzing it, trying to find it. What's always wrong? That's a practicing. That's a practicing. No wonder a spirit comes and sits there. Why? Because that's the practice of your mind over and over. Even in a godly setting, you've actually allowed now the kingdom of flesh. That's what it says in Galatians 5:19, right? These things are the works of the flesh.
>> I'm just just quoting scripture to you. I didn't write it. Okay? It says, "Those that practice these things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." How are you going to get the kingdom of God if you're practicing that in your mind?
>> In that area, you're not going to have the kingdom flow at the minimum. That's the minimum part of that verse. Okay? So, what do we have to do? We have to remove the garbage. We have to remove the smell and the infested from the wounds. We have to remove the infection. We have to remove the sin that we that is so easily entangled us. Isn't that what Hebrews says? Now run the race. Remove the weights that have so easily. Notice the scripture says it's easily. He was actually You think he knows us.
>> He actually says we're easily entangled.
>> We easily are tripped up. Okay. David cried a lot of tears. King David on his journey back to restoring fellowship with God in Psalms 51 1-12. Blot out my transgressions according to yourstead. Wash me. Cleanse me from my iniquity. I know my transgression. My sin is before me. Against you have sinned. Behold, I was brought forth. I mean, he he he dives deep. I don't have time to go into this, but he dives deep than just a cursory. I've sinned. He went clear back into the area of how he was framed in the womb and his thought process.
>> Come on. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being. Teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me and I'll be clean. Wash me and I will be wider. Let your Let me hear the joy and gladness. Let the bones that you've broken rejoice. I mean, he he he he's writing prophetic language, but it's not just a a level. He's writing at deep levels of revelation within his soul and within his mind of what it meant that how he got to that trans to that place where he sinned against God both as now plotting murder and adultery and leaving the things that he knew to be true. How did it capture him? There are those who will not break bondages because they don't feel really any true remorse for sin. and they want to be free, but because of the torment they're experiencing, they keep a place for sin that they love. For they really don't want to forsake it and totally be free. Listen, strongholds can never be broken unless there's true repentance and godly sorrow, remorse, and contrition >> for the sins that are habitually committed. Somebody asked me, and I would just say this, what is a stronghold? And we might define that a little later, but I'm going to try to define it here. A stronghold is a fortified position. And the best way, and I think I described this last year, but the best way I can describe it is it let's let's represent that this we'll pick on Pastor Tom here. This represents the the demonic stronghold. Okay. Okay. In that, it means that demon is is he's sitting in that stronghold. And the stronghold means there's a fortified defense around that demonic spirit of whatever it is. Maybe it's maybe it's um deception or maybe it's um covetousness. You know, we we could we could name a whole bunch of sins, right? But let's just say it's deception. The stronghold deception is what it is. Now, let's say anybody ever done any construction uh where you've actually built a wall either by by like woodframed wall. You understand what I'm saying? What a wood frame wall. Every 2x6 or 2x4 that you put in the section of that wall represents a lie that comprises that wall. Then another set of lies on a wall are joined together. and then join together another set of lies and all of a sudden a stronghold is comprised of a bunch of lies that hold that demon and power. That's how it works. A stronghold can never be one thought.
>> So please hear me say that. So when we talk about a stronghold, if we're dealing with a stronghold, which means it has a grip on you in the way that you think and the way that you've processed and the way that you're whatever the issue is, whether you're dealing with a brokenhearted spirit or you're dealing with a you're dealing with a uh prisoner spirit. Let's let me have your hand here for a second. So stronghold means this. Now go ahead and pull away. Hold on. Come on. Come on. Oh, that's a good That's good. Right. Get go right. Go. No, that's good. Keep going. Come on. Look at those muscles. That's awesome. So, right now, she's doing everything she can and I'm doing everything I can and the grip isn't broken.
>> Yeah.
>> That's the stronghold.
>> What normally, if it wasn't a stronghold, you could pull your hand away >> and say, "Okay, I fought that lie or two lies."
>> Yeah. But a stronghold is going to form all the way around and become a place of refuge where a strong man as the Bible calls it. A strong man sits in the place around a stronghold because he's got lies that are his armor and his defense.
>> That's why Jesus said in the scripture, right? He said, "A strong man is in charge of his goods until until what?
>> One stronger comes and removes him from his goods."
>> What's his goods? His goods is his armor. his armor are all the lies and the demonic things that have built false mindsets that keep him in power.
>> So if there's a stronghold, there's a strong man.
>> That means that there's one spirit that's that's operating over a bunch of other spirits that represent lies that are building the armor of the strong man. And I'll never forget that's what the Lord spoke to me. He said, ' Listen, how do how's the stronger man take the strong man out? He said, you have to begin to remove its armor.
>> And how do you remove its armor? You you you don't just Okay, can I just say this without being weird? Because I'm half weird all the time. My staff is already embarrassed of me, so I might as well just keep going. Uh, you don't take off armor like you take off a bathrobe. You just like that. You know, I'm just saying we're we're sharing hotel rooms and I've got the spiritual son that's staying in my hotel room with me. And it's not like when I got in the shower this morning, it's like, "Take off my armor. Here we go." That that is not what happens. Armor, if you have any idea of what armor is, it has weight to it.
>> Yes.
>> Even if you're wearing new armor today with the body armor, which by the way, I happen to have some uh cuz I just enjoy that being an American, having a gun, having some body armor. Come on, it's got to be right. And so even doing that, I got to put the thing on and and and and and do the do the uh velcro and strap it on and and it's a process. It's just not like it slips in. It's not like this. I got a silky body armor. No, the Holy Spirit isn't gay, right? Come on. I know. I I got to do this because I got to get you to step out of your religious box a little bit. It's working. So, the reality is it's it has got some weight to it. It's got a process. When I put on the the helmet of salvation or the breastplate of Christ's righteousness, it's not just naming it. It's connecting it to the truth of why it's there.
>> Let me say that again because we have so messed up the armor of God.
>> Yes.
>> When I connect the armor and pray in the armor, I have to think how does armor stay on?
>> Do you just Is it like a post-it note where you just slap it on the person? You know, when Trent's gonna put his armor on, just ah, we're just going to put the vest on. Put the helmet on. Put the shoes on. Big shoes. Good lord. Size 14. Uh, okay. Put put or is it 15?
>> Not. Okay. The reality is I don't just slap it on. It fastens on and connects to the belt of truth. Yeah.
>> And if you don't understand that, that's a spiritual principle that Paul and the Holy Spirit were taken from Roman armor. Every piece of the armor fastens into the belt, which means that's part of your job of actually armoring up is it actually has to connect to the belt of truth. You actually have to then say, why is it Christ's armor? Because I don't do this in my righteousness. I do this in Christ's righteousness. He was made poor for my sake that I might have the righteousness of Christ.
>> All of my righteousness is as filthy rags.
>> But it's because of the right. What am I doing? I'm connecting that armor of his righteousness to the truth. And I'm reestablishing every piece that protects me over my heart and over my vitals on the basis of truth. Same with the helmet of salvation. Why is it so important? It's the mind of Christ. I'm connecting. Even though the helmet is there, it's got that invisible place that ties in where I'm going to first Corinthians chapter 2 and I'm saying no one knows what's on the heart of God except the spirit of God. And the spirit of God searches the deep things of God and it knows all things. And spirit things are discerned by spiritual things. The natural man cannot discern the things of the spirit. But I can have all things. No eye has seen, no ear has heard what God has prepared for those who love him. So as I put this over my mind, I can now have the mind of Christ.
>> I'm connecting it to the to to the belt. And if you're getting anything from anything this weekend, you'll have watched me quote scripture memorized over and over and over. Not because I now, however you do it, I just memorize it because I've just been over it and over it and over it.
>> Yeah.
>> It's not because I take a little flash card. You can do that, but mine is I'm just in the word >> like you're supposed to be in the word.
>> Don't Don't Please don't think that a pastor's job is just to read the Bible and play golf. In >> fact is I like to tell people I'd like you to follow me around for a week.
>> Because I work 80 hours a week, 75 to 80 hours a week.
>> True.
>> I do in essence two jobs >> as a senior pastor. I I administrate with my administrator but spiritually dealing in preparing messages, teaching. I teach on Wednesdays, I teach on Sundays when I'm there. I travel. I do. But then I also have to what? I've got to get myself to the word and to prayer.
>> Well, I'm doing the same thing as you are.
>> That's right.
>> I'm not asking you to do anything. God's not asking me to do anything that he didn't model for us to do.
>> That's right.
>> And so having the truth and the things of God that are your shields connected, the the gospel of peace, the shalom. Why did he why did he not use Irene in peace? Because he used shalom peace. Why? Because shalom peace is peace in the midst of conflict. Where Irene, that's where you get the name Irene. Irene is a peace that that judges. Hello. Remember what the scripture says? He gives you peace that guards your heart. That's ignue peace. It's heart peace. It decides what is of God that gives you peace and what is not of God. And that Irenina guards shalom. Peace actually is connected to favor. It's connected to blessing. But it's also connected to things that having peace in the midst of the storm. That's the kind of peace you need when you get in armor because you've got the you've got the righteousness of Christ. now over you. And so then you take the shield of faith and the makierra which represents the 18-inch dagger that wasn't the broadsword. The sword he was talking about was a dagger and it was made for what? It was made for short combat fighting.
>> It was never made to just reach out and be able to hack you from here.
>> No, no, no, no, no. It means that I have to be able to get up here and that's where I and that's where that's where I use it close. And what is that sword? It's not sword for evil. I'm sorry I won't hit you again. I promise. It's that sword for the now word of God when I'm wrestling with something because I'm fully armed. Now the word of God comes and I cut that lie right there personally. Yep.
>> Come on.
>> That that that's what we're dealing with here. We're dealing with Okay. I have got to understand that true repentance, godly sorrow, contrition have to come to break habitual sin. And there has to be a determined effort in me to break habitual patterns of sin through the process. God does his process, his grace, his mercy, his light, his truth, his power encounters, but I have to have denial and self-discipline.
>> Those have to work in tandem.
>> Yes.
>> In all of this, we need to remember that Jesus was quoting Isaiah 61 when he said, "He has sent me to set the prisoner free." And it's important for those that are in prison, they need to be set free. For Romans 6:5 says this, "If we've been united together in the likeness of his death, certainly we shall be in the likeness of his resurrection. And knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed." Now, if we've died in Christ, we believe we shall live with him, knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dies no more. death no longer has dominion over him. For the death that he died, he died to sin once and for all. But the life he lives, he lives to God. Listen, if Jesus now lives, he lives to God. That's the same thing. If you're in Christ, you're now to be what? Living unto God.
>> Nowhere does it say you've been saved to live as you desire. You've been saved to live now like Jesus would live as he's actually living inside of you.
>> Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body. Do not let it. That's a
command. Every time you hear the word do not, that's do not. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you're not under law, but under grace. Yes, you're walking in grace because of the liberty of Christ. Do not go back and enslave yourself with those things because you're in grace.
Any teaching that says it's okay for you to keep sinning because of grace is a lie. Because Titus says in chapter three, grace teaches you to live in truth.
Then there's the blind. Now, we're talking about the four categories: the brokenhearted, the prisoner, the blind. The stronghold, this stronghold in the blind starts with a lie. Deception is at the root of this stronghold. Even though this can be physical blindness, its implication is much broader and stronger than that. Its primary stronghold is to bring spiritual blindness in totality to keep people from the gospel, to keep people from seeing sin, to keep people from embracing the truth and mindsets. This is what we were talking about last night that a religious spirit does. A religious spirit operates under the blind category. 2 Corinthians 4:4, Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. See, we we've just taken that to be unsaved. Does it say that? No. In the Greek, we have a lot of words that could have said. It would have said Satan, the god of this world, have blinded those who are not saved. Doesn't say that. It says of those who don't believe. You can actually believe Jesus and not believe his word in certain categories. And that's where your stronghold is.
They are unable to see the glorious light of the good news. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ who is the exact likeness of God. So it means here that lies and deceptions are distorting distortions regarding God, his character. This is the lies that we embrace. The character of God, the love of God, his faithfulness, the integrity of his word, his ability to perform his word, and his willingness. How many have ever heard, if you've been in ministry for any time, or maybe you've just been a Christian for any amount of time, you've had people say, "God just doesn't treat me like he treats everybody else."
That's when the light should go off. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Huh? Pastor Brad said, "There are four grocery aisles to walk down. This one is the blind aisle." My friend, you are blind, right? Because that language is absolutely projecting what they really believe is truth against the real truth. It's what 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, "The weapons of warfare are mighty and God for pulling down the stronghold." Meaning what? The lie. It's the indictment against the character of God. It's the indictment against his word. It's the indictment against his faithfulness. It's indictment against his love. All of those things have been built up and now are over the knowledge of God rather than the knowledge of God being over your life.
Jesus declared that the Christians in Laodicea were spiritually blind. Spiritual blindness is a deception and Satan loves to distort self-image. The enemy will either try to cause us to have delusions. This is the this is the amazing thing about this punk devil that we have to fight against. He is maybe one of the greatest uh and if I I don't want to give him honor, but if he was in the wrestling world, he would be a a tag team match because he constantly argues on both sides of his mouth. He always and this is what I found. If you deal with rejection, pride will be there. It sounds absolutely opposite and it is. But it will be there because it comes in a pair. Satan always argues both sides of the coin. He'll always argue and he'll always tag out. The minute you get close to thinking that you've got him licked, then tag comes in and the other side comes in and starts arguing and all of a sudden you find yourself pinned with the same thing.
Yeah. And so you have to recognize he'll offer delusions of grandeur, inflated positions about yourself, your gifting, your ministry, your life. Or he'll make you feel like you are absolutely the biggest loser in the world. And sometimes he makes you feel both within the space of a half hour. The single greatest difficulty in demolishing the stronghold of dealing with the the lie or the blind the blind is our ability to recognize the lie.
That is the issue of dealing with this stronghold. You've got to begin and and as I talked to some couples in between and some singles between and the break sometimes when you're coming up with a child issue or a husband issue or a grandchild issue and all of these are near and dear to your hearts. One of the things I would tell you is you've got to be able to discern the the lie from the truth. Because otherwise you'll get spun in emotions and you'll not pull back to what is the truth according to the word. And I said this earlier, Satan, Jesus said it in John 10, he cannot stand in the truth. Meaning the enemy can never stand in the fullness of truth.
But the very definition of a lie itself and the most powerful lies have a version of some truth. Yes. So here's the difference. Standing completely in the truth means there's no shadow. Means it's pure light. It's truth. It is everything that's pure and right and true and and there is no falsity. Using the truth is radically different. Yeah. I'll use it to bring a position. But the twisting of the truth, the maligning of the truth, it's not pure. And that's what Christians have to get good at. Yes. Because we don't know the word. Because it's not in a place where we research. It's not our go-to. You don't have a Bible program on your computer as the first thing. You've got Google. Google is not spirit-filled. Just so you know, you should have blue letter Bible. You should have the Bible app. You should be so familiar with just the scriptures, not somebody's, forgive me if you've written a bunch of devotionals, not somebody else's encounter with God.
This is a place where you actually know God and you actually let him speak to you. And so the very important thing is that you've got to learn to allow the spirit of God to help you stand in the truth so that when truth gets maligned, you recognize the difference of that's not that that's not true. and you recognize that's what keeps you from the deception of the blindness. And that's what helps you help other people is that you can go to the word and say that's not true. That's not what he said. That's not what Jesus says. That's not what the Holy Spirit says. We recognize and call out the lie. And that's the freedom in this category. We recognize a lie. Religious spirits rule under the power of deception. And let me just say this, religious spirits, think about this, can control whole towns and whole regions.
Here's a few demonic spirits that usually operate with a spirit of blindness that operates in lies: exaggeration, exaggeration, exaggeration, fantasy, cover-up, deception, self-delusion, pride, control, unbelief, concealment, lying, spirits of guilt and fear, darkness, self-righteousness. These are just some of them and some of them are up there. Then we come to the fourth category.
I know, just pick one. Then we come to the oppressed. The oppressed is a stronghold that originates through open doors. This is where the enemy has gained legal right to attack. It comes from several sources including sin and deception. But the strong man over this bondage of oppression is always a tormentor.
Anytime you're dealing with oppression, you're not dealing with a tempter alone. You're always dealing. It may have started with temptation, but you're always dealing with a tormentor when it's actually a stronghold there. Oppression. I've told you what it means. It means it comes from the Latin word where we even get our Greek word, but it means burdensome, cruel. It basically means to press down on, have dominion. If a person is oppressed, they feel overpowered by external force. They feel crushed. That's where the script description in the Greek means there was a tyranny of dominion. There's a there's a weight of this crushing oppression. The enemy's goal is not to, and I please understand this, the enemy's goal is not to destroy you quickly. The enemy's goal is actually to try to keep you trapped and entice you to become more of a victim. Because in that mindset, you snare more people.
Let me just let just say that again because it's important that you hear that. If it's if its assignment was to take you out immediately, there would be more assassination spirits released on the earth just immediately. I mean, there are there is premature death. There is assassination spirits. There's no doubt about it. But the reality is for most people it is that that the very sadistic nature of the evil one is that he loves the torture torment side of things. And in that process it's not about you. It's about destroying killing everything that you love around you so that he gains more influence and authority. That's the goal. Okay. So, some translations in the Greek there's a word of bondage called thlipsis and it means to crush. Some translations translate it bruised. That's another aspect of oppression. He bruising. Bruising sometimes is rendered oppressed. It means to beat up, to crush. And that's what the strong man does in this category. Harasses, it torments, it crushes a person under its oppression. He crushes self-image, it crushes relationships, it crushes dreams, it crushes aspirations, he crushes hope. Many demons work under the stronghold of this. The goal of the strong man is not to destroy the person by making them commit sin, but to stay in a person's life, to torment, to demoralize, and to crush. Here are a list of some sins that operate in this category: infirmity, sickness, delusion, forgetfulness, fear, guilt, nauseousness or nausea, infection, confusion, rejection, self-hatred, self-mutilation, self-pity, self-delusion, and failure.
So, when we deal with the brokenhearted, when are we supposed to be done with this? One. Okay. Is Okay. When we deal with the brokenhearted, I said ish. Yes. Well, somebody's calling me and telling me to pray. All right. Um I just Let me just finish this one section, then you can play and then we'll pray. Play and pray. All right. When we deal with the brokenhearted, which is the key of the rejection. So, we've now described the four categories in greater detail. And now we're zeroing in on the brokenhearted and which we will deal with tonight as well and we're going to deal with here in just a moment. This person has experienced a wound in their emotion that alters in many cases their personality and even their health. These demonic spirits have to be driven out. The brokenhearted are dealing with the pain of rejection. And we've got to begin to drive out spirits of pain and sorrow and grief, unbelief, and doubt that accompany it as gatekeepers, believing that no one can fix you.
So, as we get ready to pray and start the process of getting ready to pray for rejection, the first thing you have to do is you have to begin to repent. And just say, Lord, if there's been anything in me that has said, "Things have happened so long. I've lived with this so long. I don't have any more hope." You better go and get right with God.
Yeah. Because that loss of hope means you've also lost faith. And you've also lost trust in the character of who God is. You've blamed him for the issue that's inside of you instead of recognizing that he's already given you everything and you didn't partner with the spiritual laws of the king's kingdom in order to bring you into freedom. You expected him as the king to not only give the freedom but to come down and do it for you when he already did it.
Yeah. Can we pray a little bit? Father in Jesus name. Go ahead team. In Jesus name. Lord we come now and we begin to address these four areas: the blind, the brokenhearted, the prisoner, Lord, the wounded. Father, I'm asking now in the name of Jesus that there would be the light of your spirit that would begin to shine now. Lord, the light of truth that would come out of grace, the light of truth that would come out of your compassion and out of your exceeding great love for your people that you would begin to reveal every lie. Lord, every place where they haven't been able to see it, let the light of Christ shine even now in this atmosphere. Every place where there's been a purposeful Lord living as a prisoner where they've opened the door and refused to hate the sin and not been willing to bring everything under the power of Christ through denial. God, we repent of that our fault our we didn't it's not our fault that the tragedy happened it's not our fault that what would happened with our parents but Lord I repent for my fault for distrusting you. I repent for my fault for actually having secret places where I tolerate it and love it. And I'm asking your help as I confess this before you. Whatever you're putting on my heart, I confess it before you. And I ask you to forgive me for my part of it. And Lord, with this wound, Lord, however it came in, through trauma, through divorce, through war, through tragedy, through abuse, through accident, through injury, Lord, through deception, Lord, being involved in anything false, false religion, cults, Lord, where I've been brokenhearted and fractured in mind and emotion, God, I'm asking now for your grace and your mercy. I do not want to partner with this identity anymore. It does not define me. It does not define me. I am made whole in Christ. You came and you paid to deliver me fully. And my identity is not in what was done to me. My identity is in who you are. And that you came as salvation and truth. And you come to make whole. You never come to leave broken. You come in the fullness to bring wholeness, restoration, redemption. And the Bible says, if any man or woman is in Christ, behold, the old is gone, the new is come. Any place where I've reasoned, any place where I've wrestled and argued that I'm going to always be under the old identity, I ask you to help me now with conviction and with judging with righteousness that I would remove that partnership with that lie now in Jesus name. And I become new in Christ. And I am going to allow the spirit of God to work in me, removing lies to keep me believing and moving forward that I have the acceptable year of the Lord proclaiming a jubilee that all that you paid for gets restored to me because you said now this scripture is fulfilled. My jubilee means what? Everything in my inheritance in Christ should be operating. And I'm now working to partner with the spirit of God to bring me into operational promises as a kingdom son or daughter. Now, I command every spirit of doubt and unbelief in this room, every place where you've partnered with doubt and unbelief, if you know that that's you, when I talked about the human will and you recognize you've resisted by your own will the definitions of what the Lord wants to say over you, just begin to ask the Lord to forgive you. The Bible calls it an evil heart of unbelief. And God, we begin to repent of doubt. Doubting your word. Doubting the fullness of your word. Doubting Lord what you really meant because of our own experience. God, forgive us that we have judged you by our experience. My God. My God, help us. Forgive me that I've judged the eternal, living, holy, all-sufficient God by my 60 or more or less years of human experience. The arrogance and the pride, God, forgive me of that that has perpetuated this rejection that I've allowed pride to actually come and agree with my rejection. Oh God, cleanse me even now in Jesus name. Cleanse me. Oh God, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, unbelief and doubt, you're going. Unbelief and doubt, you're going. Unbelief and doubt, you're going. Every form of doubt and unbelief, every form of sorrow and sadness and grief, I said you're leaving the room. Sorrow, sadness, grief, doubt, and unbelief. Come on. There's an anointing on this. Let's keep Let's keep rolling. Come on. Doubt and unbelief, sorrow, sadness, and grief. You're coming off of the people right now. Go. Go. The blood of Jesus Christ is cleansing. Every form of repentance. The blood of Jesus Christ is cleansing. Lies are being broken. Lies are being broken. Lies are being broken. Doubt, unbelief, sadness, sorrow. You're going. You're leaving. Come on. Go, go, go, go, go, go. I said you're leaving in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Every spirit of grief, every spirit of sadness, every spirit of sorrow, in the name of Jesus, go, go, go, go, go. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I said, I'm breaking your curse. The blood of Jesus stands against you. The blood of Jesus stands against you. I've been fearfully and wonderfully made. I'm not a mistake. I'm not a mistake. God doesn't pass me by. I am his treasure and he is mine. I break every lie that says it's different with me. I break every lie of partnership. Every form of reason that says why I could live in self-pity by circumstances, my marriage, my children, my grandchildren. I now repent that that's tried to define me. And I ask now, Lord, that you would forgive even now, every place where I have moved my trust off of you. And I repent for being a selfish Christian. Having only a mindset for my life, not looking to the generations, not willing to be spent, not willing to pray, not willing to move past the sufferings that are here in this temporal life for the weight and the crown of glory that would come in my inheritance in the future. I choose to hold on to the truth and I break every partnership with rejection. Now I break every partnership with rejection. Go. Rejection, you're coming out. Loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose. Rejection, you're coming out. Rejection, you're coming out. Rejection, you're coming out. Sadness, grief, sorrow, shame. You're leaving. Sadness, grief, sorrow, shame. Every one of you spirits are leaving now. Up and out. Go. Go. Every every spirit of grief, every spirit of sorrow, self-pity, you're going to self-pity, you're going right now. Self-pity, you're coming out. Go, go, go, go, go. Can I help you a little bit? Stay open. Stay up. Perfect. If you're sitting there, this is just a thing from a guy that's done it for about 25 years. Allow the spirit of God sit in an open position. I doesn't mean weird, but I mean just your hands not crossed, your legs not crossed. You're not allowing anything of anything that might be a stronghold to resist. You're saying, "God, I'm recognizing there's things there. I'm asking you to come move through me and just start breathing normally, partnering right now, and saying you're leaving my life. Every form of doubt and unbelief. Every form of sorrow. Every form of grief. That's right. Drive it out. Every form of sorrow and grief. Every spirit of unbelief. That's it. Self-pity, you're coming out. Self-pity, you're coming out.
Self-pity, you're coming out. You're not going to stay here. I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. I have been saved. I am redeemed. I have been given the glorious witness of the Holy Spirit. I have the guarantee of the seal of God in my heart. And I have something brand new. I'm a new creation. I refuse to go back and wallow. I refuse to go back and live in grief. I refuse to go back and live in sorrow and in misery. In Jesus name, I begin to partner even now. And I say rejection, every form of rejection, self-pity, every form of self-pity, every form of of guilt and shame, grief, doubt, and unbelief, you're coming out of me now. Go, go, go in the name of Jesus. Go in the name of Jesus. Go, go, go, go, go. The blood. That's right. Drive it out. You guys are doing good all over. People are driving out stuff. They're leaving. Come on. Keep going. Keep going. The Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is breaking the lies. The Lord Jesus Christ is breaking every lie. Every lie that that stronghold has tried to break. And we're removing pieces of its armor. For there's someone stronger. His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ confronts every strong man of rejection in this room. By his blood and by his power and by his victory by his authority in the name of Jesus, the Lord rebuke you. Rejection, the Lord rebuke you. Rejection, the Lord rebuke you. Rejection, the Lord rebuke you. Rejection. Father, I ask that you would release holy angels even now, righteous holy angels to come and partner with the heirs of salvation, removing now doubt and unbelief, that which hinders your people, that which hinders faith, that which hinders trust, that which hinders our understanding that God is above all. You're coming out in Jesus name. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. You're coming out.
You're coming out. You are coming out. You are coming out. You're coming out. You're coming out. You're coming out by the spirit of God. The blood of Jesus. That's right. Go. Go. I cut those powers and those rights now. Get out. Get out. Every bit of power of the lie being shattered, destroyed by the anointing. Even now, lies being dislodged. Every spirit of deception.
Every spirit of deception is being broken. Every lie and every spirit. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. The Lord rebuke you. The Lord Jesus Christ rebuke you. You're coming out. You're coming out. Yep. You will yield. You will yield to the spirit of God now. I cut your line. I cut the strength that I cut the place where you entered. And the legal agreement severed now is severed now. The legal agreement get out. Goes go. That's right. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord. He's my Lord. Jesus is my Lord. I'm a new creation in Christ. Jesus. Get out. Rejection. Every bit of it. Go. Go. That's right. Keep going. Keep going. Jesus. The blood of Jesus is against you. The blood of Jesus is against you. I said the legal rights are shattered. Nailed to the cross of Christ.
