There is one saint in heaven so powerful, not even theologians can explain, except for the Blessed Virgin Mary. This saint is the greatest of all saints, and he has never been denied anything. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that this saint's prayers are all-powerful before God. Whatever he asks, he receives.
You may have guessed that the saint I'm talking about is Saint Joseph, but what's even more incredible is the reason Saint Joseph has this power. Many of the saints have noted how one single sigh from the Blessed Virgin Mary is worth more than all the prayers of the martyrs combined. This is because Christ chose to be indebted to Mary. She is the only woman ever to give flesh to the Son of God. Because Mary gave life to Jesus Christ, and because she never denied him anything in life, now he denies her nothing in heaven. God is never outdone in generosity.
But Mary isn't the only person that Jesus, in his divine providence, chose to be indebted to. King Herod tried to kill Jesus Christ when he was a child, and the angel did not appear to Mary and did not appear to Jesus. The angel appeared to the head of the Holy Family, Saint Joseph. And it's only because of Joseph's faith and his immediate obedience that Jesus and the Mother of God survived. Mary is the only person that gave life to Christ, and Joseph is the only person to save the life of Christ. How much honor and glory and power will the King of Kings bestow upon the man who saved him and his mother? This is the first reason that Saint Joseph is more powerful than all the other saints in heaven combined.
However, the second reason is even more amazing. We know from the gospel that he who is faithful with little will be entrusted with much. In Luke's gospel, in the parable of the pounds, the master gives to each of his servants one pound to trade with to make gain. The master then goes away, and when he returns, he sees how his servants have spent their time and energy to multiply this one pound. In this parable, the master calls all of his servants to judgment and gives them a reward that's greater than, but proportional to, the extra pounds that they earned. He who earned five pounds was given charge over five cities. He who earned ten pounds was given charge over ten cities.
So, what's the principle we can learn from this, and how does this apply to St. Joseph? If we are faithful with the little bit that we're entrusted with in this life, God will give us a proportional and greater reward in the next life. If we use our pound well in this life, we will be placed over cities in the next life. So, what was St. Joseph given charge of in this life? St. Joseph was the head of the Holy Family, the spouse of the Virgin Mother of God, and the father of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. So, whatever glory and honor and responsibility Joseph is entrusted with in the next life, it has to be proportioned to the pound that he was given in this life, which in his case was Mary and Jesus.
This is why St. Joseph was named the patron of the universal Catholic Church. While he was in this life, he had charge and authority over Jesus Christ, the head of the Church. So, now in the next life, he is given charge over the entire Catholic Church, the body of Christ. It's the only fitting reward for him, and this is why he's been named the guardian of the Catholic Church. This is why the intercession of St. Joseph is so powerful, not even the greatest theologians can fully comprehend it.
And in case you're watching this and you think that I'm putting too much emphasis on Jesus and I'm taking the focus off of Jesus Christ, just remember this. Jesus Christ obeyed the fourth commandment. And when he saw his mother or father honored, he rejoiced, just as any good child would do. And Jesus Christ is also eternal God. In his providence, Jesus Christ foreordained from before the foundation of the world that St. Joseph, his father, would save his life. Jesus Christ himself chose to be indebted to Joseph as the man who saved his life. He chose to be indebted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who gave him flesh. Never be afraid of loving St. Joseph too much, because you can never love him more than his Son, Jesus Christ.
If you are a Catholic man and you're struggling with lust, you're struggling financially, you're struggling to keep your family in the faith, just know you have a patron in Joseph. He understands your struggles. And of all the saints in heaven, he is the most compassionate on struggling husbands and fathers. Why? Because he was one himself. Only Joseph's faith held the Holy Family together when he found his wife pregnant and it wasn't his doing. Only Joseph's faith saved Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the Virgin Mother of God from the malicious plot of Herod. So, if you find yourself struggling in your family, just know you're in good company. Joseph struggled first.
