And the reason that this one's only 1,200, the reason he only stayed for 1 month, can you guess why? He actually started running ads for one of the other clients on this client's credit card.
All right, so if you're watching this video, you probably are stuck between zero and 10 clients and you're trying to figure out repeatable strategies that allow you to get the clients that you want, start making some real money with HighLevel. I've sold over $2 million worth of HighLevel directly to local businesses, not including what I've sold from this channel. And the strategy I'm going to share are literally what I used to get my first 10 clients when I had no audience, no experience, and I was just trying to hustle and get to my first 10k a month.
Full disclaimer, these weren't SaaS clients, so I thought it'd be fun to just like go through one by one. So, the first client that I ever sold was actually my family business. I was working for them as their marketer, just getting paid hourly, and I said, "Hey, I'm going to leave, but I'd love to sell my services back to you." And so, we agreed for an upfront cost on building the website and the ads that I was running for them. And I know that not everyone's in this position, but a lot of people are, where they're working for a company they can say, "Hey, I'm leaving. I'm going to sell my services back to you." So, that could be your first client.
The second client I closed, I just kind of telling my friends and family about what I was doing, and my brother happened to be talking to somebody in his neighborhood that was an insurance agent. And he said, "Oh, my brother runs ads. Should I connect you guys?" I got on a call with him, I sold him, and I ended up running ads for the insurance agent.
The third client I closed was the first one that I ever did a cold outreach message to and ended up closing them. And this is like the most euphoric of these cuz it really felt like I had generated my own business. And the message that I sent to the local Facebook page of the orthodontist was, "Hey, my name's Keaton. I'm doing some research on the orthodontist business model. I would love to share what I've found in my research and any marketing improvements I see that you guys can make, 100% for free. I just have a few questions for you about how your business works." And they got back to me a couple days later, we hopped on a call.
At the end of the call, she was like, "Who are you? Like, how can you help us?"
>> Um and that's pretty much all I had. Do you have any other questions about what we've talked about?
>> Um no, not about what we talked about, but just about who you are. And like, So, did you find us?
>> I think the best way that it would work is I could I could run a couple campaigns for you. You could see how it work and how it works and then eventually if you want to take over, I can train you on how to do it or you can just keep working with me and
>> Okay. That'd be great. Um yeah, then I can just I will be able to meet with and our office manager and just kind of tell them the things that you've told me and I'll meet with Dr. Nance also and just kind of see what they have to say.
>> Awesome.
>> you've I mean you've got some great ideas. This is exactly what I wanted help with. So.
>> Yeah, that's great. So, good to talk to you Lindsey. I really appreciate your help.
>> Yeah, thank you Keith. Have a good one.
>> You too.
I got back to her with a proposal, they end up signing and paying and they're still clients to this day like 6 years later, which is crazy.
All right, switch to head in the corner here because I forgot who came next. And it's cool cuz you can see the proof of how much they paid me. Like that number three that I just mentioned, they've paid me almost $100,000 since April of 2019, which is very cool.
All right, so this next one, they only paid me $300. This was a reputation management only client. I just helped them get a bunch of reviews. I'll put the case study up here of like what we did. That was kind of cool. If I had more sales chops at the time, I probably could have upsold them on something else, but it's like a family friend, I didn't really want to like mess with it.
All right, this next one for $23,000. This one was quite cool actually. So, I was trying to break further into the orthodontist niche cuz I only had one orthodontist. And somebody told me, "Hey, you should make a lead magnet." With which if you don't know what that is, it's basically just valuable resource like how to grow your orthodontic practice. Here's six things or whatever. And so, I wrote up this post that was like, "Hey, I've been doing all this research on orthodontists." And it was true, I'd probably done about like 10 of those research calls, talked to 10 different orthodontists, like bought like generic marketing courses, bought courses on how to market for orthodontists, watched every YouTube video about how marketing for orthodontists or for dental. And I said, "I put together like the six things that every orthodontist should be doing to dominate online." And I posted in a Facebook group full of orthodontists and I literally said, "I was just going to attach the PDF that I had had created. I paid a designer to make it, but it literally wouldn't let me attach it on Facebook." I said, "Facebook won't let me attach this. So, if you want it, just comment down below and I will send it to you." And so, people start commenting, "Me, me, me, me." And then, all of a sudden, one person commented their email. And then, everybody just started commenting their email. And that's how I built my first like 200 people on my email list. So many orthodontists came in and commented on it. And what's a real pity about this is it wasn't actually that good. The PDF was sort of generic and with everything I know now, I could have made it way better. But, of course, that Facebook group I was sort of like on trial from then on cuz it seemed like I was selling stuff. But, what's really funny, guys, is I got this message the other day from a good friend of mine and a former student that I coached on this method. I told him what I did. And he just said, "Still works..." This is like 2 weeks ago. So, if you're thinking that one's outdated, it is not.
So, anyway, I posted that in a group. I got all those emails. And through that process, I started chatting back and forth with this guy who then just like showed up on my calendar one day. And I closed him and ran like pretty aggressive ads for him about 6 months. The results were not great. It was kind of a hard area. But, he was like, "I really like you. You did a great job. did everything you said you would. Like, I'd love to do some awareness ads." So, I was running like really simple awareness ads for him for another couple years after that for like 400 bucks a month, which is a cool offer, actually. Some people call them billboard ads where you have no like conversion tied to it. You're not saying, "Hey, I'm going to bring you all these customers." You just say, "Hey, for a low monthly fee, 300 bucks a month and 400 bucks a month in ad spend, I will make you well known. Everybody will see your page. They'll come clicking to your page." And there's a lot of people that jump on that kind of offer if you just want to run simple ads until you learn how to do the more advanced stuff.
Next up, we've got another orthodontist out of Florida. Same thing. She came from that same post and they are still clients today. 73,000 paid, which is really cool.
Okay, this next one you see for $5,000. I messaged him on Facebook and I said this, "Hi, thanks for connecting. Hope your week is going well. If you've got time, can you answer a question for me? Uncovering the answer to this question for orthodontists and helping them fix this is a really big deal to me. So, I'm trying to get as many data points as possible. I'd really appreciate it. What's your biggest marketing headache?"
Probably knowing what is working. Where are we getting the best ROI? Tracking is the biggest one so far. Thanks for the reply. What are you currently doing for marketing and which activities are you unsure are working?
He names everything he's doing. Yeah, that gets hard to track for sure as a practice fairly new. It's the other practice that I bought 2 and 1/2 years ago. Anyway, we keep talking. You can pause and kind of read through this and then we booked a call and I closed him. He didn't stay on for a long time. I didn't know what I didn't know at that point about ads and that's what I really like about lower ticket high-level services now is cuz you can just sell essentially one simple thing that's almost guaranteed to get a ROI every single month and there's not all these massive expectations on it. If I remember correctly we were around broke even on these ads, but I was still very new and this was around the time I was like I need to hire somebody that's even better than me at ads. And so I ended up doing that.
All right, coming to number eight, almost 12,000 from this client. Funnily enough, I was having this messenger conversation with this guy in Pennsylvania while I was watching a movie on my friend's couch in a place called Temecula, California. I saw this magnet on his fridge for like the local orthodontist and I was like, oh, I think I I recognize and I also saw him advertising at like the local high school and then we drove past the practice and I was like, hey, do you have his number? Like, can I reach out to him? And I reached out to him, ended up closing him. They were a really, really solid practice. The ads did super well for them because they already had so much brand awareness. But again, I think he was like very smart and he knew I was kind of new and so we worked together for about a year before he moved on.
Number nine, this guy DM'd me from a different Facebook post and I missed it for like 2 months. And guys, pro tip, if you've been posting in Facebook groups and you feel like nobody's reaching out, I went to my spam folder in Facebook Messenger and I found this guy's message, like, I kid you not, 2 months later. He said, hey, I saw your post about this. Like, do you think you could help us? I ended up closing him and that post was a case study that I had posted about our very first orthodontist client that I had closed.
And the reason that this one's only 1,200, the reason he only stayed for 1 month, can you guess why? Because, as I mentioned, I started to find people that were like better at me than running ads. And despite this guy being better at me than running ads, he was very new and I had given a lot of clients all at once and he actually started running ads for one of the other clients on this client's credit card and I I think I refunded him like half of the initial fee and he did like actually make some money, but he was just like, "Dude, what is this?" I was like, "You're absolutely right."
All right, that brings us to the last one, number 10. They paid about 3,400 bucks here, and it was the same outreach message, the one question survey. That is a money one, by the way. I really like that outreach message. And the reason that this isn't higher that it stayed longer is because I was learning how to manage nine 10 clients at once, learning how to outsource, learning how to manage people, etc. And just with so many balls in the air, I didn't focus enough on the results for this client. They did about break even, and they did, I think, lose a little bit of money on this. And so, the results weren't great. I think they closed one client out of this, which is worth about $5,000.
So, yeah, hopefully that gives you a little insight on how to close clients with basically zero case studies, managerial skills, or anything, and some of the pitfalls that you would run into, and you can make less mistakes than me and keep your clients for longer.
