I just stumbled across the largest stash of liquidated home batteries in the country. But there's one problem.
So when Coler decided to get into the solar game, they didn't make all their own components. They just licensed it from a company called Goodwe. And then they license it to another company called Electric. And then when Electric goes bankrupt, they unplug their servers, breaking thousands of systems. And this is why you can get one of these for 25 cents on the dollar. And they kind of work. You just can't configure them or monitor your usage or production on a cell phone app.
That's when the story gets really interesting, but I'm going have to back up a little bit. See, a couple months ago, I bought 16 of these Tesla solar panels to build out this deployable solar trailer. And installed on those solar panels were Nphase micro inverters. So, I cleaned those up and sold them to some homie marketplace for as much as I paid for the panels. And when you meet solar people, you start geeking out on solar. And this guy starts telling me about his homie who developed an exploit for the Colar home battery systems.
Enter Deesh. He figured out that you can disconnect the Colar Wi-Fi system and hotwire it to a Goodwe Wi-Fi dongle, tricking the entire system into thinking that it's an original Goodwei product. And Goodwe's still in business and their servers are plugged in. So Devesh published this exploit to some solar forums and immediately the international supply of Wi-Fi dongles was swallowed up and got relisted on eBay. Only those dongles are from a newer system and you need to be a hacker to make them work. So pretty much anyone who's purchased the system is still out of luck.
Fast forward a couple months. Our buddy Dvesh goes to meet up with one of the bidders of the electric auction. Now enter our new buddy Greg. Greg was a small fish at the auction and bought a bunch of miscellaneous pallets. And Deveesh agreed to meet up with him and help him make use of his systems. And lo and behold, on one of these pallets is 170 of the Goodweied dongle, which is the key to making a $3,000 system operate like a $13,000 system. And all we got to do is wire a USB to this 5 pin JST and design and 3D printed enclosure and some other things, which has essentially put me in the solar business right now. Most of my DMs are open.
