[Music] Oh, [Music] this is the Ruger Max-9. So this is literally the first time that I'm ever shooting this gun. If you're watching this now, this gun hasn't even been released yet; no one even knows about it. But I wanted to come out real quick and just do a little bit of shooting with it before I put together the whole video, so I decided, let's just do a first impression. So that's what we're doing.
So the Ruger Max-9 is, from my standpoint, it's Ruger's attempt at competing for the market share of the Glock 43s, the Glock 48, the Springfield Hellcats—all of those compact but high-firepower kind of concealed-carry focus firearms. So one first things first is you get you get a flush mag with 10 rounds in it, and then you have another mag with an extension that gives you 12 rounds in this really small, compact form. On top of that, you also get—if you see on top here—there's a plate here for a micro red dot that you can mount to your gun. Like I told y'all, micro red dot is kind of the way things are going. You also have this fiber optic—it looks like a fiber optic sight—but there's part of me that thinks that it actually it glows in the dark. I think I'm not sure, but from what I can tell, it's definitely fiber optic because it really is blinding in a good way—blindingly bright uh, during the day and at night. I just I'm just gonna have to figure out what it's doing, and it does look like it illuminates a little bit um, at night. So essentially, this kind of takes on the same profile as their Security 9 series of firearms, and I did a video on the Security 9 and I said that that gun was surprisingly really good. I didn't have high hopes for it, but when I started shooting it, I really actually liked it quite a bit.
So I don't even know how much it's going to cost at the moment; I'll probably annotate it in this video. But let's go ahead and just do some shooting with the gun. 10 rounds and uh, let's see what see what it's like to shoot. Oh, also, you do have a safety. I know some of you guys are going to be like, "Yeah, I want a safety on my gun," and some other people are going to be like, "Yo, great! It has a safety; I love it!" You also have a peep hole here that gives you an indication of whether or not there's a round chambered as well. All right, let's see what we got.
So first things first, usually with these type of guns, the one thing that you notice is recoil because they're so small and there's not a lot of mass to kind of absorb the recoil. Certain guns like this tend to recoil quite a bit. Immediately, I noticed that it didn't recoil as much as I anticipated that it would. There is another gun that shall remain nameless that recoiled quite a bit in this size, and I noticed it immediately, and I'm glad that's not the case with this one. [Music]
So the gun is definitely set up for concealed carry, and the reason I say that is because of these this this particular sight; it's big. So for up-close stuff, you know, it definitely picks up really fast; like I can definitely punch out, hit targets. However, for me, when I go out to distance, it kind of takes up the target a little bit, so it kind of really delineates what type of focus this gun has. I mean, it's a small gun; like you're not going to go running into a Mars battle with this particular gun. [Music] But nonetheless, it has a really big front sight—we're not a real big, but big enough where it picks up really quickly. But then at the same time, um, it's still small enough to shoot out the distance as I just demonstrated. But typically speaking, whenever I'm shooting at a distance, I tend to like it a little bit smaller. There we go.
So yeah, the recoil on this gun, honestly, and especially in this configuration when it's a flush flush plate down here, um, it doesn't recoil that much. It's not soft; I'd be lying if I said it was a soft-recoiling gun because it's not, but it definitely recoils softer than some other guns in this size category. There we go. So I will say this: I said in a video about the Security 9, but I was a fan of this kind of granulated texturizing on the particular gun because it feels soft enough in your hand that it's actually comforting, but then it's aggressive enough that it doesn't feel like you're going to slip out of your hand. It has a really slim profile; it doesn't feel bulky at all. The actual frame of the actual slide of the gun visually looks bulkier than it really is, and I think a lot of it has to do with this back plate here.
Now let's talk about this trigger. It is the same trigger that you get in their LCP variants of firearms, at least the LCP2, and I really really really like it, and and I mean that with all sincerity. The trigger on this one is actually pretty damn good, as you can see here. It's it's reminiscent of Glock, and it doesn't really look like a Glock, but as far as the the mechanical components of it, you have the actual trigger here, and then you have this little safety lever here. So if you don't engage that safety lever, the gun won't go off, and then when you do, the gun goes off. So let's talk about this trigger a little bit. So here's the take-up is really smooth, really smooth, and it feels it doesn't feel disjointed; it's just one sweep, then you hit a wall, which is a very pronounced wall, which is what I like, and then you gotta break. The break is not the cleanest break in the world; however, it is clean enough that it doesn't really bother me when I'm shooting or notice it very much. So I gotta give a big up to the trigger.
So like I said, you have the magazines: you have a 12-rounder and then you have a 10-rounder, which is one which is one round short of the Springfield Hellcat, just so we're noting. But I put these two together, and this gun seems a little bit more less bulky, so to speak, in the frame; in the slide it seems pretty much on par, but in the frame it actually feels a little bit slimmer in hand, whether it's not, I don't know, because I didn't actually measure it, but this does feel smaller in hand. All right, let's go let's do some shoot. Yeah, where are the targets? Targets. [Music] Let's go to runs. Yeah, I just said, "Yo, man, this gun shoots really naturally." [Music]
All right, so that was it. Um, I didn't want to do too much; I'm going to do more extensive video on this particular gun. So far, I like it; I like it. And I got to say, and I said it before, man, what a time to be alive if you're in again, if you're getting into guns, because when I got into guns, we didn't have guns this small with this kind of firepower. I mean, 10 rounds this size; we were talking about a Glock 26, and a Glock 26 is like double the size of this. So y'all are lucky. And then on top of that, you get plates to mount optics and stuff. Before, we had to pretty much I don't know, we had to abuse our guns and cut them up and do all this nonsense. So I'm assuming that this gun is going to come in at a pretty low price point because Ruger is really good at doing that and putting out a good quality product at a reasonable price point or an accessible price point, as I like to say.
So this is the Ruger Max-9. Thus far, I gotta say I like it; I do; I really do. My favorite part of the gun is this trigger. I think the trigger is really what sells this gun. I think if this gun had a bad trigger, I don't think I would like it as much from the standpoint of it being the size that it is, um, and like I said, the recoil is great. I think the gun from an aesthetic standpoint, some people may like like it; some people don't. I kind of like the design language of this particular gun is kind of keeping in bold with the rest of the guns that they have, like the Security 9 and the LCP, so forth and so on. But I think without triggering this gun, so far so far—remember, I'm just now shooting this for the first time—this gun is pretty good with the trigger. This gun is really good for the area that it's in as far as being a compact, high-firepower firearm with a lot of features. So it's going to be interesting seeing what the price on this particular gun is, and if the price is already out by the time this video comes out, which I'm sure it will be, or annotated in the video.
