What if doctrines have been quietly rewritten? This was not done by enemies of the faith. It was done by the very publishers you trusted most. [music]

We begin with the translation that did it with a single article. [music]
Section 1. The New World Translation removed God from John 1:1. Open your Bible to John 1:1. Read it slowly. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. That single verse is not just a sentence. It is the entire foundation of Christian faith declared in 17 words. Remove it, soften it, or alter one syllable of it, and everything built on top of it collapses. And that is exactly what one of the most widely distributed Bible translations in the world has done.
The New World Translation was published by the Watchtower Society. It has been placed in the hands of millions of Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide. Their version reads differently. It says, "And the word was a god." One article, one letter, and the entire identity of Jesus Christ is dismantled. This is not a minor grammatical preference. This is a theological earthquake. The insertion of the word "a" turns Jesus from the eternal God into a created being. It strips him of divinity. It reduces the one whom Thomas fell before crying "my Lord and my God" in John 20:28. It makes him something lesser, something made rather than eternal. [music]
Something created cannot bear the weight of your eternal soul. A created Jesus cannot actually save you. The translators who produced this version did not hold academic degrees in biblical Hebrew or Greek. That fact alone should give every serious believer pause. But the deeper issue is not academic. It is intentional. The changes in the New World Translation were not made to improve clarity. They were made to support a theology decided before the translation even began. The text was bent to fit the doctrine. The doctrine was not drawn from the text.
This is exactly what the Apostle Paul warned the Galatians about in Galatians 1:8. "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached, let him be accursed." Paul did not say, "Let him be corrected." He said, "Let him be accursed." [music] Because a different gospel built on a different Christ is not a variation of Christianity. It is a counterfeit that leads nowhere near salvation.
Think about what changes when Jesus is no longer fully God. His death on the cross becomes the death of a created being, not the infinite sacrifice of the eternal son. [music] His resurrection becomes impressive but not cosmic. His authority to forgive sins evaporates entirely. The Pharisees in Mark chapter 2 correctly identified the power to forgive sins as belonging to God alone. A Jesus who is merely "a god" has no such power. A Jesus who cannot do what only God can do cannot deliver what he promised. And what you are trusting for your eternal soul cannot save you.
The serpent in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3 did not tell Eve that God was irrelevant. He simply asked, "Did God actually say?" [music] That question was enough. One subtle shift in the meaning of what God said and everything unraveled. The New World Translation operates on the same principle. It does not tell you to abandon Jesus entirely. It simply tells you he is "a God," not "the God." And that shift is enough to unravel everything. Millions are building their eternal hope on a Jesus who does not actually exist. You may never have held a copy of the New World Translation in your hands, but this matters [music] to you. The same strategy Satan used in the garden is being used today. It appears in published, widely distributed, professionally printed Bibles. [music] The word of God is being altered not with a hammer, but with a single article, not with obvious heresy, but with a whisper. The Jesus of scripture has no equal. [music] He is not a God among gods. He is the word who was God, who became flesh, who died and rose. He is coming again. That Jesus can save you. The other one cannot.

The next translation does not remove verses. It removes the edge. Section two, the Message Bible traded your conviction for comfort. There is a version of the Bible sitting on shelves of Christian bookstores across America. It feels warm, conversational, and easy to read. It sounds like a friend talking to you over coffee. It uses phrases you recognize from everyday life. And that is precisely what makes it dangerous.
The word of God was never meant to feel like a conversation over coffee. It was meant to feel like a sword. Hebrews 4:12 does not say the word of God is comforting and affirming. It says the word of God is "living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. It pierces to the division of soul and spirit. [music] It discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart." That is not the description of something designed to make you feel good. That is the description of something designed to cut through everything and expose what is actually there.
The Message was written by Eugene Peterson. He never intended it to be a translation. Peterson himself described it as a paraphrase. It was a contemporary rendering meant to capture the feel of the original. But somewhere between the original intent and the millions of church members who now use it as their primary Bible, something went wrong. What was offered as an on-ramp became a destination, and the destination it leads to is a Christianity drained of its most essential demands. The cost of following Jesus quietly disappears.
Open The Message to John 3:16 and compare it to what scripture actually says. The traditional text reads, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son." It continues that "whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life." That is the text. That is the promise. That is the warning. The Message renders it as something easier, something about wholeness and not being destroyed. The word "perish" disappears. The urgency disappears. The eternal consequence of unbelief is softened into language that could mean almost anything. This is not a small adjustment. This is the difference between a gospel that confronts you with the reality of hell and one that leaves you feeling vaguely hopeful. And a gospel that leaves you feeling vaguely hopeful cannot produce the kind [music] of repentance that actually saves.
Something essential has been lost. John the Baptist did not preach vague hopefulness. He stood in the wilderness and called the religious leaders of his day "a brood of vipers" in Matthew 3:7. He did not soften that to something more accessible. He named what he saw because the people in front of him needed to understand the danger they were in. That is what genuine preaching does. That is what a faithful Bible does. [music] It tells you the truth about your condition so you run toward the only one who can fix it.
Throughout The Message, words that carry the entire weight of the gospel are quietly replaced. Sin becomes dysfunction. Repentance becomes a change of heart with no urgency attached. The blood of Christ, which Paul calls the only ground of redemption in Ephesians 1:7, gets language draped over it. That language softens what it cost and what it accomplished. When you remove the offense of the cross, you remove the power of the cross. Paul made this clear in 1 Corinthians 1:18. [music] "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to those who are being saved." You cannot have the power without the offense.
The believers in this audience have lived long enough to know the difference. There is a faith that sustains you through loss, grief, illness, and the approach of death. And there is a faith that only works when life is comfortable. The Message produces the second kind. Because a Bible that never convicts you, never transforms you. And a faith that has never been transformed has nothing to stand on when the storms arrive. Jesus described those storms in Matthew 7. They come for everyone. Only a transformed faith can withstand them. Comfort is not what your soul needs most. Truth is, and truth, when it is preached and read in its full, uncompromised form, is the most loving thing God has ever offered you.
Section three, the New International Version. The verses they quietly deleted. It is sitting in more church pews than almost any other translation in America. It is the Bible your pastor likely quotes from on Sunday morning. It is the version recommended in most Christian bookstores and trusted by millions of believers. They have never had a single reason to question it. And that familiarity is exactly why what has been quietly removed from its pages is so spiritually dangerous. You do not notice what is missing. You only see what is there.
Open your New International Version to Matthew chapter 17. Read through the account of the disciples who could not cast out a demon. [music] In Matthew 17 verse 21, Jesus gives them the reason. "This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." It is one of the most direct statements in all of scripture about spiritual authority. It speaks of the disciplines that open the believer to a dimension of power that casual Christianity never touches. In the New International Version, that verse is gone, not moved, not footnoted prominently. Gone.
This is not an isolated example. Mark 9:29 in many New International Version editions removes fasting from Jesus's answer entirely, leaving only prayer. Acts 8 verse 37 contains the Ethiopian eunuch's confession of faith in Christ before his baptism. That verse has anchored the theology of believers' baptism for generations. It is absent from the main text. Romans 8 verse 1 in its full form declares, [music] "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not according to the flesh but according to the spirit." The New International Version removes the second half of that verse. It removes the part that carries the ethical weight of what walking in the spirit actually demands.
Each removal taken alone might seem like a textual footnote decision. Taken together, they form a pattern. The verses that disappear from the New International Version are consistently the ones that demand the most from believers, the ones that call for fasting, the ones that require personal confession of faith, the ones that attach conditions to the promises are gone. What remains is a Bible that is easier to read and harder to be challenged by.
Jesus never made discipleship easy. In Luke 9:23, he said, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." Not occasionally, not when convenient. Daily. The cross, he described, was not a piece of jewelry. It was an instrument of death to self and to comfort. A Bible that softens that call is not making scripture more accessible. It is making the narrow road wider than Jesus ever said it was.
The justification given for these omissions is always manuscript evidence. Scholars claim that certain verses do not appear in the oldest available Greek texts. That is a technical argument that most believers in the pew are not equipped to evaluate. And that is the problem. When scholars make decisions about what belongs in your Bible based on criteria you cannot examine, you are entitled to ask questions, especially when the result consistently removes the most demanding passages of scripture.
Proverbs 30 verse 6 issues a warning that has never expired. "Do not add to his words lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar." The same principle runs in the other direction. What has been given cannot be taken away without consequence. Every verse removed from your Bible is a truth your soul was meant to encounter. Every discipline quietly erased from the text [music] is a weapon of spiritual warfare you were meant to carry. You have been sitting in churches for decades trusting that what is in your Bible is everything God intended you to have. For many of you reading from the New International Version, the hard truth is that it is not. The parts that are missing are not the decorative parts. [music] They are load-bearing walls of the faith. Remove them quietly enough and the building keeps standing for a while until the storm arrives and reveals what was taken.

The next translation did not [clears throat] remove, it added. And what it added changed everything. Section four, Catholic editions added these books and changed everything. There is a principle that runs through the entire Bible like a spine. [music] God speaks, man listens. God does not ask for additions, improvements, or supplements to what he has already said. He asks for obedience to what he has already given. The moment human tradition is placed alongside divine revelation and treated as equally authoritative, something irreversible happens. The voice of God gets harder to distinguish from the voice of men. And that distinction is everything. Your eternal soul depends on knowing the difference.
Catholic editions of the Bible contain seven additional books not found in the Protestant canon. These include Tobit, Judith, first and second Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, and Baruch. These books are called the Deuterocanonical texts by Catholic tradition. Protestant scholars call them the Apocrypha. [music] They were formally added to the Catholic canon not through apostolic consensus but through a church council. That council was the Council of Trent in 1546. And the timing of that decision is not incidental. It came directly in response to the Protestant Reformation. It came at the precise moment the Catholic Church needed textual support for doctrines that reformers like Martin Luther were challenging.
That is not how the canon of scripture is supposed to work. The books of the Bible were not chosen by church councils voting on what should be authoritative. They were recognized as authoritative because they bore the unmistakable marks of divine inspiration. They were consistent with the whole of God's revealed truth. The early church received them as such from the very beginning. The Apocrypha was never received that way. Jesus never quoted from it. The apostles never cited it as scripture. The early church fathers debated its status for centuries. Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin in the 4th century, explicitly distinguished between the canonical books and the Apocrypha. Jerome warned that the Apocrypha could be read for edification but must never be used to establish doctrine.
That warning was ignored, and the doctrines built on the Apocrypha are not peripheral. Second Maccabees 12 contains the primary textual support for the doctrine of purgatory. That is the belief that the dead can be prayed for and assisted toward heaven through the prayers and offerings of the living. That doctrine does not appear anywhere in the 66 books of the Protestant canon. It appears in a book added to the Bible by a council responding to a political crisis. This happened 16 centuries after the Old Testament was completed.
Paul addressed the danger of this kind of addition with absolute clarity in Colossians 2:8. "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition." Human tradition. That phrase is not abstract. It describes exactly what happens when a church council votes additional books into scripture to support practices the original text does not teach. The consequence is a faith partly anchored in God's word and partly anchored in something else. And a faith with two anchors set in different directions does not hold steady. It tears.
When the storms of grief, doubt, illness, and death arrive, you need absolute certainty. For believers over 50, those storms have already arrived many times. You need to know with certainty that what you are standing on is what God actually said, not what a council decided to add, not what tradition has accumulated over 15 centuries. Revelation 22:8 leaves no room for ambiguity. "If anyone adds to the words of this prophecy, God will add to him the plagues described in this book." [music] That warning was issued over the entire canon of scripture, not just the book of Revelation. God takes seriously what is added to his word. He knows that every addition dilutes the clarity of what he originally gave. Nothing was ever meant to be added. [music] You were given enough. The 66 books of scripture contain everything required for salvation, for holy living, for spiritual warfare, and for the hope of eternal life. Nothing needed to be added. And the moment something was, the line between what God said and what men decided became harder to see. That line is not a theological preference. For your eternal soul, it is everything.
Section five. The Good News translation is starving your soul slowly. There is nothing wrong with wanting people to understand the Bible. That desire is good and right and reflects [music] the heart of God. God spoke through prophets, through apostles, and through his own son precisely because he wanted to be known. He has always desired to reach his people. But there is a difference between making truth accessible and making truth small. And the Good News translation has crossed that line.
In its effort to put scripture into the simplest possible language, it is slowly starving the souls of believers who trust it. The damage is not always visible until it is already done. [music] Simplicity that preserves truth is a gift. Simplicity that removes truth is a slow poison.
Take Romans 3:24. In translations [music] faithful to the original Greek, Paul writes that believers are "justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." That word "justified" is not decorative. It is a legal and theological term that carries centuries of meaning. It means declared righteous before a holy God. It means the verdict of the courtroom of heaven has been rendered in your favor. Not because of anything you did, but because of everything Christ did. It is the hinge on which the entire doctrine of salvation swings. The Good News translation renders it as "being put right with God." Put right. As if what happened at the cross was a minor correction, as if what you needed was an adjustment rather than a complete transformation of your standing before an infinite and holy judge.
When you remove justification from a believer's vocabulary, you remove their ability to understand what actually happened at salvation. When they cannot understand what happened, they cannot defend it or rest in it. And they cannot stand on it. When the enemy tells them they are not truly saved, the foundation becomes uncertain.
Paul in Ephesians 3:18 prays that believers would have the strength to comprehend "the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ." He did not pray that it would be simplified into something manageable. He prayed that believers would be strengthened to comprehend what is vast. God's intention has never been for his people to remain in shallow water. Ezekiel 47 describes the river of God's presence beginning at the ankles, rising to the knees, rising to the waist. [music] Finally, it becomes a river too deep to cross, water to swim in. That is the journey God calls every believer toward, not comfortable shallows, but depths that require everything you have. The Good News translation keeps believers at the ankles. It hands them water wings when God intended them to learn to swim. And believers who have been in the faith for 30 or 40 years deserve better than that. They have buried spouses and watched children walk away from God. They have sat in hospital waiting rooms and stood at gravesides. They have carried griefs that simple language cannot address. They need the full weight of scripture. They need propitiation and atonement and sanctification. Not because those words are impressive, but because those words name realities that only the full truth of God can meet.
Hebrews 5:12-4 delivers this indictment without softening it. "By this time, you ought to be teachers. Yet you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of God's word. You need milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to [music] distinguish good from evil." That passage was written for exactly the believers this translation is failing. People who have been in the faith long enough to be feeding others but are still being handed milk. No one ever gave them anything stronger. And a soul kept in shallows never learns to stand in deep water. The goal of scripture was never to make you comfortable with where you are. It was to make you dissatisfied with anything [music] less than the fullness of God. A translation that strips away the vocabulary of that fullness is not serving your soul. It is limiting it. And a limited soul, no matter how sincere, is not a mature one. Maturity requires the whole truth. Every word, every weight, every demand. That is what God gave, and that is what you deserve to receive.
If you have made it this far, you are already in rare company. Most people click away the moment truth starts getting uncomfortable, but you stayed. That tells me something about where your heart is. You are someone who values what is eternal over what is easy. And that is exactly the kind of discernment God is calling his people back to in these last days. You are not here by accident.
The sixth Bible on this list was not corrupted by anyone else. It was left unopened by you. Section six. The most dangerous Bible is the one you never open. Every version discussed in this message has one thing in common. They all change what is written. But there is a sixth Bible that may be doing more damage to your soul than any of them. It has not been altered by a translation committee or corrupted by a council. It is sitting on your nightstand or your phone right now, exactly as God intended it to be read, and it is closed.
Satan does not always need a corrupt translation. Sometimes he only needs a busy schedule. Joshua 1 verse 8 records God's command to "meditate on his word day and night." Not occasionally, not when convenient. Day and night. Because a Bible that is not being read is a Bible that is not changing anyone. The enemy has never needed to destroy scripture. He only needs to keep you from it. Distraction, fatigue, the quiet assumption that the faith you built 30 years ago is sufficient for the battles arriving today. These are not innocent interruptions. They are strategic. The enemy knows exactly what he is doing.
David wrote in Psalm 119 verse 11 that he had "hidden God's word in his heart so that he might not sin against God." Not memorized it for academic purposes. Hidden it, stored it where decisions are actually made. Where temptation is either resisted or surrendered to. The word of God lodged in the heart is the single most effective weapon a believer carries. And an unread Bible is a weapon still in its case, while the battle is already underway. Paul identified only one offensive weapon in the full armor of God: "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Every other piece of armor is defensive, but the sword advances. And you cannot swing a sword you have never picked up.
The battle will not wait for you to get ready. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 that "heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." They are eternal. They are sufficient. They are exactly what God gave you for exactly the moment you are in right now. The most dangerous Bible is the one with your name inside the cover that you have not opened in weeks. That Bible is not failing you. You are simply not picking it up.
You have just done something most believers will never do. You sat with the hard questions. You measured what you have been handed against what scripture actually says. You looked honestly at the Bible you have been trusting. You examined the translation you have been reading, and the eternal foundation that depends entirely on whether both of those things are built on truth.
Here is what this message has shown you. There are Bible versions circulating in homes and churches across America right now that are removing verses and softening the gospel. They are adding books that were never inspired and replacing the full weight of God's word with something more comfortable and far less powerful. These are not minor editorial differences. They are spiritual fractures. And a faith built on a fractured foundation will not hold when the storms arrive.
