Welcome back once again to my machine!
I have performed various tasks, particularly Windows-related tasks, but in the current market, it's essential to keep ourselves up to date. Based on my experience and research and development, we have found that almost every client today wants to add one more skill to their engineers. They believe our engineers should be capable of handling the Mac operating system.
As you know, many of us deal with clients from the US and UK, and there are numerous users who use their Mac machines or other devices personally. If they encounter any problems with their devices or face basic issues, it becomes the responsibility of the system administrator to resolve them.
In this single video, we are going to share complete details with you so that you can perform basic troubleshooting on a Mac. You will be able to resolve any issues related to a computer or Mac device easily.
Like every video and session, this will also be a fully practical-based video in which we will describe everything live. So, let's start now!
I have two models from 2016 and 2018, and I have another device. We will try to cover everything in this playlist, including how to provide connectivity through Apple's ports. We will discuss how to resolve problems related to low space or slow performance in your operating system.
Along with this, we will also talk about checking your battery health, checking the configuration of the system, updating the OS of the machine, and finding the latest updates related to applications. We will also discuss Time Machine, its concept, and how to consolidate your backup. Additionally, we will cover the procedure for backing up our entire machine and how to restore it.
So, this is our agenda. First, we will provide information about both systems, like the systems on which we will be practical. Let's discuss the tasks that are going to be performed, and then we will talk about how we can manage and configure the options available in this machine. We will also discuss the services present in this system.
Now, let's move to the desktop and discuss the features and how to start your journey with the Mac operating system as a Mac engineer.
Let's record your screen and share all the information with you.
Okay, we have come to our laptop screen, and from here, we start our journey of learning the Mac operating system. As we discussed, your Mac has both hardware and software importance, which can provide you with different features. Features can also change according to the hardware, and there will definitely be some changes in the operating system. However, if you have a basic knowledge of any Mac operating system or know its interface, to a large extent, the operating systems are similar.
Some applications or features may change, but their main purpose will remain almost similar. Multiple icons are visible on the screen, and multiple options are available. We will read each option one by one.
First, we will discuss each icon, and then we will add the second point. In this, there are shortcut keys, and after shortcut keys, there are some important services like user management, disk management, formatting the disk, and configuring backups. Today, we are going to talk about all these points in a single video.
We will try to share complete details with you in one video so that you don't have to search for any other video for whatever you want to learn for your client. You can get everything from a single video.
Let's start!
When you start handling your Mac machine, you should get some information about the icons that you see on your desktop. Let's start from this corner. You will see multiple icons, including a speaker option and a battery option.
The battery option gives us information related to the number of users, which is the current user and the number of assisting users available on our system. Their details can be found from here. You can open the properties of your user and group if you want.
You can also check the WiFi connections near you, to which particular WiFi network your system is connected, and how many WiFi connections are in your system environment. This is the icon from where you can get information about other shortcut keys.
You will get details in WiFi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, keypad brightness, or screen mirroring. You can attach your mobile phone or tablet screen with it.
The display details allow you to reduce brightness and contrast. This is your speaker's detail, meaning you can control the volume of your sound from here. If you have music playing, you can control it from here as per your requirement.
These are the shortcut keys, and along with that, here you can see a small icon, which we name as Siri. You know very well about it. If you purchase it by Confide, then you will have to get your voice recognized and configure it.
It's a type of built-in feature. If you use a mobile phone, you must know about it. I hope you have a good idea about it. The use of this particular tool allows you to perform tasks by giving the right voice instruction as needed.
If it is activated, it will give you access like, "Hey Siri," and access to your mobile phone has become a little immediate. But what you will have to do here is activate it manually.
Now, whatever we are saying, it is typing your type. This voice instruction will work on voice command, and you can handle it according to your needs.
This is the basic thing, and here the timing details are visible. You will see the screen timing and what we can set for date and timing. Whatever my current status is, that information will come.
Let's move ahead. Here, we will talk about the icon. If we click on the bottom, the Finder option will work like the taskbar. You can consider this Finder as an Explorer of Windows. Just like Windows has an Explorer, you can consider it in our Mac machine.
When you click on it, it will give you information about your Mac machine, including AirDrop, recent tasks you performed, how many applications are installed, and details about your desktop, documents, and downloads.
You can easily access the folder of all these regarding your shared details with the help of this particular option. This was the basic thing.
Also, here there is a Launchpad. When you click on the Launchpad, it will open all the applications. The details of all the applications that we have installed will appear on the Launchpad.
Like when you use multiple applications on your mobile phone, when you unlock your screen, you will see multiple options. After clicking on it, you can easily access all the application software you have installed, and you can scroll left and right.
Whichever application you want to use, just click on it, and it will open for you.
Next, if we talk about Safari, it's a built-in software, a kind of browser.
Apple provides a built-in feature for email. You can do this inside your email folder by clicking on your account. According to this, you will click on the option to configure multiple accounts. It will redirect you to the page.
What type of mail ID do you have? Suppose we have given our email ID and confine name here. We have an email ID in the name of support@teachmecloudnet. We sign in to it and see what happens.
We click on sign in, provide the password, etc., and we will connect our email ID to the permanent machine. If you want to attach it, we give it the password and let's try to sign in.
So, it is better to configure it inside our machine rather than opening Outlook repeatedly. Whenever we need that email ID, we will check it by clicking on this mail icon here.
Authentication failed because there is a password problem somewhere. You will have to clear the password and also check where you have configured your email ID.
There is support for this username. Let us give the enable to verify account name and password somewhere, but we are confused about the password. We will have to reset the password because I forgot the password for this user.
So, this is the method. You can handle it here according to your user ID and password. You can log in to your machine through your user ID and password.
So, whatever email ID you want to configure, you can easily do it from here.
On the edge, the name is suggested. You can normally see photos, etc. If it is available, then this icon is visible for photos.
FaceTime is a type of software that allows you to call someone. It is similar to Skype, and you can share meetings, etc. You can create a new link here, and any other device, whether through a mobile phone or any other device, can share this link for video calling.
You will get the basic options that you need to use for specific purposes, like calendar, contact details, reminders, or notes. You will get all this information in a store.
In the case of a store, it will be on the page of a store in which the name will be suggested. Whatever software or tool you want to download for this machine, you can directly click on the name here.
For example, if we need an RDP tool, we will type RDP, and a list of all the applications related to remote desktop will appear, be it Microsoft Remote Desktop, Parallel Desktop, or KK Remote.
There are multiple applications that work as remote keys. If you want to access them from your system, you can use these tools.
One more point I wanted to add is that most of the applications you will get from the App Store will be paid versions. So, you need to be aware that you may have to pay charges for whatever application you are using.
How are the charges disconnected? This is how the charges mean are applied to your account. First, add the credit amount to your Apple ID. After adding, you will make the purchase from here, and your amount will be directly deducted from your Apple ID.
This is one method. The second method of using the application is that you want to download the software. Whatever software you want to download, you will give the name of that software.
For example, I wanted to download VLC for Mac. You can install it on a Mac machine. When you download the tool, the format will be in your DMG.
Let's download a software and check its format, etc. Because in the case of Windows, you know that whenever we use any application, the format of that application is in the case of .exe.
But in a Mac machine, when you download the VLC software, it will look something like this. This is the list of your applications. This is your software, which you want to install. You can drag and drop it.
Just pick it from here and drop it. Dropping means you are installing the application. The basic concept is to manually install any application on a Mac machine.
So, you have to pick it up and drag-drop it into the application folder. According to the software capacity, it will take some time.
As it takes time to install, we are able to access VLC media. The installation is in progress for a little while. It will take time; actually, this system has to be updated, which takes time.
So, right now, this installation is in progress. There are only seconds left, and it is done. Now you will open this application, and here we have to find which part is VLC 3.
Just download it now. Everything is okay now, and you can start using this application. You will get a list of VLC players. Whatever media file you want to drag, drop, or open, you can select it from here and open it, and your video will start playing.
So, this was about installing the application through which we did it through DMG format. The second option is the App Store.
If you don't want to download the software from the store and want to install it, this must have become clear to you till now.
Now, let's talk about some shortcut keys. All these things are clear now to handle.
Let me help you because I will have to do external recording for this. We need both recordings.
As you can see here in the icon, this is your touchpad. The touchpad is inside your laptop, and if you look here, there is no such icon or any symbol visible through which we can find our right-click and left-click.
So, what is the gap? When you single-click on it, it means that it works just like a mouse. It will work like a mouse in a way.
If you use a single finger, it will work like a mouse, but if you use two fingers, then this two-finger tap will perform a right-click.
Suppose you want to open this folder named "data." If you click on it with two fingers, then your right button will be considered like this.
Again, if we use three fingers here or swipe here, you can swipe the drag and drop left and right, and a list of your icons will open up.
If you click on the upper side, like if you click on the upper side, then this will give you a list, like when you tap window plus in your Windows machine.
As it is, a list will appear in it. Whichever icon you want to open, you can select it from here as well.
I hope you understand this. Now it is the turn of drag and drop. You see nothing will happen with a single click with a single finger, but here if you want to drag and drop using two fingers, then it will use your means like drag and drop, two fingers up and down like this.
Along with this, we will talk about some more shortcut keys. If you press the command key plus the space bar, you will see Spotlight opening on the icon.
Spotlight Search is a type of search option that helps us to search anything, whether it is our software, application, or online file.
You can search all that information from here. Hope you have understood till here.
Now, let us extend this step a little more. In the next step, the information about the operating system you are using on the machine will be available to us.
You will click on this icon, go to "About Mac," and after clicking on "About Mac," it will give you options. It will inform you about the type of operating system that you are currently using.
Mac OS is here, and its version is 12.7.19. Talking about memory RAM, if you do this, then 8 GB, 16 1600 mega dhr3 graphics system has come.
If you want to update your machine to the latest OS, then its list will appear. Otherwise, you can automatically keep your Mac up to date here, in which whatever software is there, it will keep getting updated.
Let's move ahead. Here, in the case of display, you will find the settings related to your screen. You will click on display preferences, and on display preferences, both default and scaled display options are available.
In the case of scaled display, you can select the resolution according to you. This is your low resolution, and this is high resolution. In the case of high resolution, the picture will be clearer.
So, you can set it up according to yourself. We have kept it at maximum here so that the compatibility can be managed according to yourself.
Secondly, if we talk about brightness, then you can automatically adjust the brightness. Automatically adjusting the brightness means according to the environment.
If you are using your laptop and there is too much sunlight, and you are unable to see the display, then it will automatically increase the brightness.
If it is evening time or inside a room where there is less light, it will reduce the brightness so that the compatibility of our eyes remains with our display.
You know that when we use our mobile phone, we have to set manual brightness in them. There is a requirement to increase the brightness, but in the case of Mac devices, you do not need to perform any such manual task.
I hope you have understood everything till here.
Next, we will talk about Night Shift. When you click on Night Shift, it gives you the option of scheduling for custom or sunset and sunrise.
The name suggests the meaning of sunset and sunrise. What will happen in sunset? After 6 PM or after 5 PM, according to the sunset, it will adjust your brightness.
According to the sunrise, like 8 o'clock in the morning, 9 o'clock, or 10 o'clock, it will manage your environment according to the sunrise, which means it will automatically manage the brightness of your display.
I hope you have understood till here. Let's go to the next point.
After clicking on Storage, one of the important options is Storage. It will provide you a list of how much storage you have in your Mac machine at this time.
It means the hardware hard drive. What is the total capacity of the disk, and how much space have you consumed? We have 58.9 GB of space free right now, and the total hard disk capacity is 121 GB.
If your machine has enough space, then there won't be much of a problem. I just want to add one more point: if your system has less space, it will impact the performance of your system.
The performance will be slow, and many more things can be managed in this. Click on Manage. After clicking on Manage, it will redirect you to the widget near your device's disk management.
From here, you will see how much space the identification file is consuming. Our application is consuming 12 GB. Our documents are consuming around 10 GB.
We are not talking about iCloud, mail, etc., music, etc. Just these MB others in which your temporary files and cache memory are kept, that is 5 GB something.
If it is consuming the surrounding space, then what is the benefit? If you have low space, you feel that you have no use for this file.
Then you can remove that file by right-clicking on it, as per your requirement.
Whatever software or large file you are seeing and you are not using, then you can remove it from here, and you can increase the available space.
As it is, an application that is consuming too much space has consumed around 60 GB of space.
If you click on Get Support, it will redirect you to the Help and Support page. Any query related to Mac, you can directly discuss from here.
Hope things got clear till here. It will give you a list of what is going on related to which you need to task.
If you have any problem related to physical and liquid damage, or if you have forgotten or are facing any internet-related issue from the App Store, or want to make any purchase from the App Store, you can easily find all this list here.
You will get this number of resources. Talking about resources, this number of resources is your Mac Help User Manual and Mac Support Specification of your computer.
You will get all these details. I hope that we talked about this System Preferences. Sorry about this.
Talking about Mac, there will be no confusion in it.
Let's move ahead because we have planned to teach you all the hacks of Mac. For this, we will have to create one or two videos at the most, and you will get all the information in it.
Next, let's go to the point. Here, we are going to talk about user management, how to manage the user inside the Mac machine, and whether we can attach our Mac machine to the domain controller.
If we can add it, then what is its procedure? We are going to talk about task management in our Mac operating system.
We will click on the icon and go to System Preferences. You can compare these System Preferences with those in Windows through Control Panel.
Just like there are many icons in Control Panel, services are visible in the same way inside our device. We can understand System Preferences as Control Panel.
General, Desktop & Screen Saver, Dock & Manage, Mission Control, Everything, Spotlight, Region & Language, Notification, Focus, Internet Account & Password, User ID & Users and Groups, Accessibility, Screen Time, and multiple options are visible here.
There are extensions, so we start from the user panel. After clicking on the user icon, we will see some wizards like this, and unfortunately, this whole setting is locked.
You will click on this lock, and it will ask you for the password of your local system. You will give the password with which you logged in for verification and security.
The number of users is available here. Tata user is available. Telnet user is available. If you want to know the user number, please contact us.
To delete, suppose we want to delete this user. You can select him and click on the minus icon here, and your user will be deleted.
At the time of deletion, save the home folder, do not change. The Home Folder and Delete the three options are visible for the home folder.
Whenever you create a user, what does the user Mac do? It creates a home folder for your user, which we consider as profile data in Windows.
As it is here, a home folder is created. If you click on it and save the home folder in a disk, if you delete it, your Tata user will be deleted, but its home folder will remain available.
You can use it in the future. Don't change it. The Home Folder depends on whether you do not want to make any changes in your home folder.
Delete the Home Folder. If you want our home folder to be deleted along with the user, then you can click on this icon and click on the delete icon.
You will click on P. Now, along with your user, his profile data will also be deleted. If you select the last icon, this was about deleting.
Now, if you click on plus, then it is obvious that it will give you the option to create. You can see multiple options in the account type here: Administrator, Standard, Sharing Only, and Group.
These four options are visible. Admin means owner. If you want to make this user standard, it means a little lower than admin, which we can use to log in.
Sharing only means sharing. In the coming time, we will discuss how we share the data of our Mac machine to Windows and the data of our Windows machine to Mac.
Whenever you share data from one machine to another, it asks you for the user ID and password of your source. If you want to create a user that you want to use only for data sharing and remote sharing, then you can select sharing in the account type here.
We will give now we are going to create an administrator and keep the username Tata, display name is also Tata, and here you provide the password.
The password will be verified. Whatever your password is, provide that. If you want to provide any kind of hint, then give it and create it.
Okay, we have proceeded. Here, Tata User is ready to use. The option to reset the password is visible on the user properties.
You can also reset the password from here. Also, if you click on your login user account, you will see the login item along with the password.
Here, on the login item, if any item is logged on with your machine for this user, it will give you a list of those items which will be added to the startup account at startup.
The name of the user is considered, and if we talk about it, then some other options are also visible here.
If you click on the log on option inside the login option, it gives us a multiple option list of username and password. You can select both the options here.
You can select the list of users. Which icons should be visible? You will see the Show Sleep Start Shutdown button in the menu of these users.
When you log in with these users, you will see the input menu in the login window.
So, password hint at the start of user login, so fast user switching menu icon as well. Accessibility will give you the list of the services you want to allow to this user, and you can manage them according to your needs.
Join Network Accounts. If you want to make this machine a member of the domain controller, then you can do so here.
We will give the name of the domain, whatever the domain would be, like we have kept cloud.com. So, cloud.com is our domain running on Windows Server 2016.
We will select it, and it will ask for user ID and password if it is available, and we can proceed to convert our machine from workgroup to domain.
So yes, along with Windows, we can also convert the Mac operating system from our domain to workgroup to domain.
So, guys, this is the first class of discussion about the Mac operating system, and we hope that whatever we discussed in today's class, you must have understood it.
There will be second and third classes in this as the content is very much, and we do not want you to miss any topic.
So, you will meet in the next class, and you will get proper details. We will provide you with how we can handle a Mac operating system.
Right now, we have this MacBook Air. After this, whatever will happen, we will continue.
