[Music] [Applause] [Music] Tir Avipallava Alava No Paya is the means to the cessation of suffering. The means is the instrument for obtaining that which is to be obtained. That which is the instrument for obtaining is called the means. Suffering means liberation. It was explained in the previous sutra, wasn't it? Not being born is liberation, and this is suffering. It is the state when suffering is gone. Suffering means it is gone. What is gone? Suffering is gone. This is suffering. So, suffering is gone. Where is it gone? Suffering is completely gone in liberation. Therefore, let's take the direct meaning of suffering as liberation. And this is the means to suffering, the means to liberation. If you want to reach liberation, do this. What is the means? Discrimination of discernment. Discrimination of discernment is the means to liberation. Yes, attainment of suffering, cessation of suffering, and attainment of happiness. Let's add both. This is called liberation. So, suffering means liberation. Liberation means suffering will be gone, and happiness will be attained. This state is called suffering. So, what is the means to reach this state? Its means is discrimination of discernment. Discrimination of discernment means understanding three substances separately. Repeat, what was said? Three substances: sound, God, soul, nature. These three substances are separate. To see these three separately, this is God, this is soul, this is nature. To understand the distinct nature of all three here, and that too at the level of true knowledge, not at the level of literal knowledge. To understand three substances separately at the level of true knowledge is discrimination of discernment. Khyaati means knowledge. Viveka means separate, distinct. To know three essences separately. When you see a human being, that human being is called a creature. A creature has two things: a body and a soul. Together, it is called a creature. So, when you see a human being, you see two things, a body and a soul, or one thing? One thing. So, false knowledge, ignorance. If you see one, it is ignorance. If you see two, it is discrimination of discernment, so it is true knowledge. Two should be seen. When you start seeing two, your perspective will change, your vision will change. The world will look strange. Oh, the world is like this. We didn't understand it like this before. Now something else is appearing. So, this entire world is in ignorance. It considers the body as the soul. The body and the soul appear as one thing. Where do two appear? Maharishi Patanjali says two should appear. When you see a person, one should be visible to the eyes, and the second, the soul, should be visible to the intellect. The soul is not visible to the eyes. The soul is visible to the intellect. The body is visible to the eyes. And a person sees the body, but doesn't see the intellect, doesn't see the soul at all. They just consider the body as the soul. This is ignorance, and this ignorance is the cause of bondage. This cause of bondage, this false knowledge, seeing both as one, is the cause of bondage. Seeing two as two is the cause of liberation. That's all. So, here it is said that the means to liberation is to see two things as two, and along with that, see a third one too. There are three. See all three. Is God here or not? Is He here or not? Does He stay with you or not? Does He appear 24 hours a day? This is false knowledge. God stays with us 24 hours a day, and we don't even see Him, don't even think about Him, don't even contemplate Him. We forget Him all day. Only when it's evening, during the time of evening prayer, do we remember a little. Let's do some evening prayer. And if we don't do evening prayer, people will call us atheists. So, to avoid being called atheists, we sit for a while for the sake of appearances. There is no interest in God. No interest at all. Yes, three should be seen. Yes, I am bringing you step by step. First, see two, then I will show you the third. First, see two. So, when you see a person, we should see not one, but two things. The body is visible, of course. Secondly, see the soul with the intellect. And also see God. He is also visible with the intellect. Two things are not visible to the eyes, are they? The soul is not visible, God is not visible. They are visible with the intellect. So, all day we should see three things. This is called discrimination of discernment. When the soul element is attained, it sees the soul element along with the body, the soul element with the supreme soul. It cannot not see. Absolutely correct. Absolutely correct. So, there is another word, Vipallava. Avipallava. What kind of discrimination of discernment? Avipallava. Vipallava means to shake, to break, to lose, to spoil, to scatter. This is Vipallava. And A means it should not end. It should be lasting. It should be stable. Continuous discrimination of discernment should remain. It should be strong, firm. That will lead to liberation. You got true knowledge for a short while, that yes, God is there, soul is there, nature is there. It happened for a short while, for five to seven minutes. After that, it ended. So, this level of knowledge, being so raw, will not lead you to liberation. This is Vipallava discrimination of discernment. So, Vipallava will not lead you. Avipallava will lead you. It should last, it should be established. Meaning, from morning to night, we should see three substances separately. Then it is Avipallava. It will lead to liberation. When you see police officers standing 24 hours a day at every intersection, then you will make mistakes. No. So, police officers should be visible 24 hours a day. God. God should be visible to you 24 hours a day like a police officer with a stick. Then you will not make mistakes. Then you will do 100 good deeds. Yes, tell me. Not separate knowledge, but separate discernment. Discernment means knowledge. Discrimination of discernment means separate knowledge of three essences. This is God, this is soul, this is nature. So, all three should be seen separately. And people read in ignorance, in non-dualism, they say "Aham Brahmasmi" (I am Brahman). See, misguided scriptures are saying see separately, and you are making them one. You are doing the opposite. So, how will you achieve liberation? It won't happen. This is called discrimination of discernment. Discernment means true knowledge. Yes, this true knowledge will generate detachment. There is a cause-and-effect relationship between both. Which cause-and-effect relationship? Both have a cause-and-effect relationship. 29. 29. Okay. Yes. Discrimination of discernment, true knowledge, are the same thing. Discrimination of discernment means true knowledge, means true knowledge, means the actual knowledge, the separate knowledge of the three. Yes. This knowledge, this knowledge is the cause. What is the cause? This cause will generate the effect called detachment. What was said? Detachment is the effect. True knowledge is the cause. When we see all three separately, this is true knowledge. From this, detachment will arise. How will it arise? Listen. We will contemplate all three separately. What do you want? Happiness. Yes or no? 100%. You want 100%. Who wants less than 100%? Nobody. 100% happiness is desired. 100% suffering should be removed. These two things are your goal. Yes or no? Now, we have three substances. Examine all three. Contemplate all three. Can nature give you 100% happiness? Food, clothing, shelter, car, gold, silver, property, bungalow, car, honor, respect. Can these inert substances give you 100% happiness? So, one decision is made. Your goal is 100% happiness, and nature cannot provide it. One decision is made. This is called true knowledge. This is the truth. This is reality. Now, the second substance, the soul. Look at it. Can any soul give you 100% happiness? No. You want 100%. How much do you want? 100%. And no soul can give you 100% happiness. This is true knowledge. This must be seated here, in the head. No soul can give you 100% happiness. No material object can give you 100% happiness. Understanding the three substances separately like this is called true knowledge. It is called discrimination of discernment. Now, the third one is left, God. Can God give 100% happiness? Yes, He can. He can, right? That's it. Understanding all three separately like this. So, nature cannot give 100% happiness. The soul cannot give 100% happiness. God can give 100% happiness. So, what does your intellect say? Whom should you pursue? Whom you pursue, you will have interest in, attraction towards, love for. Why? Because only that can fulfill your goal, and no one else can. The thing that cannot fulfill your goal, will you move towards it? The object that cannot fulfill your goal, will you run towards it? No. You will turn back from there. So, turning back from there is called detachment. What was said? Turning back is called detachment. So, you will become detached from nature. Nature cannot give 100% happiness. U-turn. You will run towards nature. You will run towards the soul. The whole world is running. You are also among them. [Laughter] As long as there is ignorance, you are running towards that world, aren't you? Tell me. It was said that if the nature of the soul, if God helps it, then it can see, hear, know. Physical help, right? Right. So, just as a normal soul sees, hears, knows through instruments made by God, the one who is giving us the instrument has a power many times greater than ours. It is very great. It must see even more vividly than we see live. It must know more. It sees clearly. It knows clearly. It is sitting in someone else's house, on rent, and tells me, "I am sitting here." Then the world will appear to you like this. Then there will be no interest in it. Its effect will become completely faint, completely reduced. And as God is understood, His effect will increase so much, increase so much. Just like the sun's light is so intense. One sun shines during the day. The whole world is clearly visible. At night, no matter how much you do, how many lights you turn on, you won't get light like the sun. One sun shines, and what beautiful light it is. And everything is seen clearly, without doubt, without delusion, absolutely clearly. So, when God is understood, He will be as influential as the sun. Everything will be seen clearly. Yes, try to understand. Its complexity increases so much that the mind doesn't work. It doesn't work. So, what is the solution for that? Listen. You are thirsty. You thought, "Let me drink water." You are thirsty. So, you asked someone, "Where can I get water?" He said, "There is a river flowing in front. Go there and drink." So, you took your glass and went to the river. You saw, "Oh, it's a very big river. So much water. How can I drink it all? I can't drink all the water. There is so much water in the river. I can't drink it all." So, will you not even drink two glasses? You will drink two glasses, right? So, what will you do? You will fill one glass and drink it. Then you will say, "Ah, it feels good. My thirst is not fully quenched yet. Drink one more glass." You filled another glass. You drank the second glass. Now you are satisfied. That's it. Now, whatever water is in the river, what does it matter to you? If you thought, "How will I drink all the water?" then you will get stressed. Listen to me, listen carefully. If you thought, "How will I drink all the water?" then you will get stressed. And just think, "I don't have to drink all the water. My work is done with two glasses. I need to drink two glasses. The rest can flow. And others will drink it. I need to drink two glasses of water. I will drink two glasses. That's it." Now you won't be stressed. So, when you understand God's arrangements and see complexities in them, then don't look at all the complexities. Don't look at all the complexities. God's power is very great. You won't understand it. Just learn what is enough for you, that yes, God has such a good arrangement. My work is going well. That's it. Thank you. It's done. If you go too deep, your intellect will be ruined. Don't go too deep. If you start thinking, "How does God keep track of everyone?" you will go mad. You will go mad. Don't think that. Just think, "Does God keep track of me properly or not?" That's all. Mine is fine. He is just. So, will He give me the fruit of my actions or not? Yes, definitely. He will give it at the right time. He will give justice. There will be no injustice anywhere. No mistake. So, my work is done. What He does or doesn't do, that's His business. Yes, now tell me. Should praise be done? It should be done. It should be done. So, from praise, they derived this: description of qualities. Right. The qualities should be described. It will generate interest in God. Right. Absolutely right. So, if we describe God's qualities, we see a little complexity, then its importance is also understood. Its importance is understood. God is so capable, and He administers justice so precisely. So, praise should be done to God. Qualities should be described. I also say, I agree 100% with what Maharishi Dayanand Ji is saying. I agree 100%. I am just saying, set a limit. Yes. If a limit is not set, you will go mad. Your mind won't work. Yes. Just set a limit. As much as is good for us, as much as we have understood. That's it. It's done. Someone said God is infinite. I said yes. This discussion about infinity also goes on. This is also a tricky subject. People don't understand that God is infinite. So, he called me. He was a good scholar. He raised this doubt on the phone that people say God is infinite. This can have two meanings. I said, tell me. The first meaning could be that God has no end, is unlimited. And the second meaning is that there is an end, but we won't be able to understand it. Our intellect is small. We can't think up to that limit. So, which of the two meanings is correct? He asked. I said, you can assume either of the two. You won't understand it anyway. Whether you assume unlimited, you still won't understand. And whether you assume limited, it is still beyond your understanding. So, assume anything. What difference does it make? Why are you unnecessarily exercising your brain? In any case, you will have to assume that it is beyond our understanding. So, just assume that. Tension over. And if you go deeper, I will tell you my opinion, which I find correct. But the point is the same. You won't understand it. That point will still remain. You won't understand. He said, "Okay, tell me your opinion." I said, "My opinion is that God is unlimited. He has no limit." He said, "Okay. That was the second meaning. In that, there was a limit. If we assume that, then why do you want to assume that He has no limit?" I said, "I want to assume it because if the second option is assumed, suppose there is a limit somewhere, but it is beyond our understanding. If we assume that, then a question will arise: what is beyond where God ends, where God's limit comes? What is beyond that?" Then, try to answer that. Will there be an answer? No. Therefore, it is better to assume the first meaning, that He has no end. And it is written in the Vedas, God is infinite. Sages have also written, God is infinite. So, we will assume that much and leave it. We won't think too much, otherwise, we will go mad. Therefore, God is very great. We cannot understand all His qualities. We cannot even fully understand one quality. Just understand it roughly, as explained, like drinking two glasses of water from the river. Your work is done. That's how much we need to proceed. God is just, merciful, a storehouse of bliss, the protector of all. How He protects, understand it roughly. Your work will be done. Like this. Yes, tell me. Nature is everything. 24 substances are nature and its family. All this is inert matter. The original nature is one substance, the supreme being. And 23 substances have originated from it. All this is inert matter. Nature and its family. This is called Vikriti. 23 substances that have originated are called Vikriti. Vikriti means specially created. Thoughtfully created. Systematically created. Created for a specific purpose. That is Vikriti. So, all these 24 inert substances, which we read about in the previous sutras, 18 and 19. First, nature, because nature is a gross object. The method of human understanding is this: first, it understands the gross thing. It understands the gross subject first. Later, its intellectual capacity increases, then it understands subtle matters too. First, it understands the gross thing, then deeper things. Our system is like this. So, God, soul, nature are three substances. Understanding these three is called discrimination of discernment. So, the system of understanding is: first, understand the gross subject. It will be understood quickly. Then, after understanding that, understand the subtle from it. Then, after understanding that, later understand the most subtle. This is our order of understanding. So, among the three, the grossest or simplest subject is nature. Therefore, we will know nature first. This is nature. This world is nature, Vikriti. I am calling both nature in common language. I have clarified earlier that this whole nature and Vikriti is one thing. This is a form of nature, the world. So, now, nature itself is subtle. It is not visible. So, what is visible, we will start from here. What is visible in front? Five senses are visible: form, taste, smell, sound, touch. So, knowing these is the first thing. Yesterday, the day before yesterday, I said, eat plenty of sweets. Eat a lot. Eat to your heart's content. Do plenty of experiments. Start from here, right? So, today, you are eating plenty of food. You have been experimenting for so many years. You are not experimenting. You are just eating. You are not experimenting. Now, start experimenting. Eat plenty of sweets, kheer, puri, halwa, mithai, puri, kachori, samosa, everything. Eat and get the result. What is the result? Satisfaction or not? Do this experiment. One experiment, two experiments, three times, four times, 10 times. And in the end, get the result. What happened? Satisfaction or not? If yes, then it's fine. Continue. Continue eating your whole life. You are getting satisfaction. What else do you want? You want happiness. Happiness is being obtained. Then continue. And if this result comes, that there is no satisfaction. The desire with which we started eating and enjoying, that desire is not fulfilled. If this result comes, then use your intellect. Then running towards that which is not completing our work is madness. It is not intelligent to go where our objective is not fulfilled, is it? So, why run there? Thinking this, you will U-turn from there. Nature is understood. Seen. Eaten. Drunk. Roamed. Seen. Heard. Smelled. All work is done. Still, the desire is not pacified. So, why go in this direction? Get out of here. Then sit with souls, chat. Chat with your brothers, sisters, friends, companions, husband, wife. Chat a lot and see if you get satisfaction or not. After chatting for two hours, see how you feel. You will get bored. Your desire will not end. You will get bored talking. The conversation will end. Then there will be nothing left to talk about. What to talk about? Then you will look at each other's faces. Look at each other's faces for an hour. You will get fed up. Even if you like someone's face very much, you like it a lot. Look at their face continuously for an hour. Don't take your eyes off. Look continuously for an hour. You will go mad. You will say, "Leave it, man. Close your eyes. Leave this person. He's mad." It will be like this. Yes, tell me. This is the experiment. Yes. When a yogi crosses all stages of practice, meditation, devotion to God, and overcomes ignorance, enters knowledge. At that time, the Shruti that was said, "Aham Sat," when he meditates, and when he wanders in the world, then he sees both things. He sees the soul, he sees the body. This is my experience. I am telling you. It is true. Yes, it is true. Very good. We are correct. Correct. Very good. So, these are all things for experimentation. By doing such experiments, you will gain true knowledge. All these experiments are being told so that you can get that true knowledge. From that true knowledge, detachment will arise. Then you will say, "Okay, man. I have seen it. Chatted. Eaten. Drunk. What happened? Nothing. Let it go." Then your mind will become like this, "Let it go." Then you will do only as much work as is necessary, as is essential. Then you will talk only that much. Food is needed. Yes, Mother, give me food. I am hungry. Went and ate food. In 10-20 minutes, "Namaste. Thank you very much." Then you will go to your solitude. Then you will mind your own business. So, detachment will arise like this. And then you will sit with God. You can sit with Him. You don't get tired, bored. Talk to Him as much as you want. Now, people don't talk to God at all. They talk to the world all day. They don't talk to God. They forget Him all day. So, no problem. Gradually, with practice, it will become a habit. By experimenting with each thing, first your mind will become disgusted with nature, you will get tired, bored. So, detachment arose from here. Then you will experiment with souls, and you will become detached from them too. Then you will experiment with God. There, your mind will find peace. As much as you understand God, as much as you understand God's qualities, God is of the form of bliss. What great bliss! How much bliss! So, as much as God's bliss is understood, it will become a little intoxicating, a little mad. So, as much as God is understood, His bliss will start to be obtained. Then the satisfaction derived from it will not be found anywhere in the world. So, this will happen gradually. It will take time. You will study, contemplate, stay in solitude. The more you think about these things, the more progress you will make. That's why it was said that liberation is not found by staying at home. To do all this, solitude is needed, peace is needed, a jungle is needed, a natural environment is needed, where there is no external noise, no pollution, no explosions, no city hustle and bustle. There should be peace, solitude, where the mind works on these things. So, the Vedas say, "Upavare giri nam sangamam cha nadinam." Meditate in the caves of mountains, in the forests, in ashrams, in solitary places. Sit there and contemplate. There, all these things will be clearly visible. This is how our progress will be made. And any doubts? Tell me. Seeing the soul with the intellect. Understood. Yes, I will explain this. With the eyes, the body is visible. Right. The body is five and a half feet, six and a half feet. Is there a soul in it? Yes. When a living body moves, it means there is a soul in it. Then why doesn't a dead body move? It doesn't have a soul. So, seeing with the intellect, why is this body moving? It is moving because there is a soul in it. And it was moving well, and now it has stopped. Why has it stopped? So, the intellect tells us, doesn't it? The soul has left. So, you understood with your intellect that there is a soul in this living person. Seeing like this. So, whenever you see a living person, and they are walking, moving around, talking, laughing, singing, playing, doing all sorts of things, see with your intellect that there is a soul in them. Concentrate on that a little. Contemplate a little that there is a soul in them. When your attention goes to the soul, what was said? Then the effect of the body will lighten. The effect that the body has on you, that it is very beautiful, tall, strong, robust, this effect of the body will fade when your mind thinks about the soul. Meaning, when you think about the soul, the effect of the soul will start to be understood little by little. And the effect of the body on you will decrease. Then you will compare the two, body and soul. Now, you are starting to understand a little that these are two things, not one. One is the body, and one is the soul. Then you will compare the two. Between the two, which is more valuable? The soul. Then, since the soul is more valuable, you will start to be influenced by it. The effect of the body will decrease. It will lighten. The attraction in it will reduce. Then, with the intellect, you will see further. How good, strong, beautiful a person is. If the soul leaves this, what will remain? Then the body will remain. Now, with the intellect, separate them. Body separate, soul separate. When the soul is separated by the intellect, then a dead body will remain. Now, see how influenced you will be by a dead body. Nothing. "Quick, take it out. Quick." It will be like that. So, this will happen only when the person dies, the soul leaves. That will happen after 10, 20, 50 years. What will happen after 50 years, we will see it today with our intellect. If it happens today, Maharishi Patanjali wants to say this. Understood? So, see the soul with the intellect like this. Yes, tell me. Swami Ji, once there was a person who was upside down. Yes. And he was big. I felt like he had died. Yes. His dead body felt a little different. But then I thought, "Let me try to move his leg." I tried to move it. And a little while ago, I saw him. It felt like a dead body. He was completely upside down. Not moving. Right. And as I nudged him a little, he turned upright. He turned upright. And after turning upright, he moved a little. He moved his mustache. So, I had the experience that he is alive. Yes. He was not moving. Right. And as I nudged him a little, he turned upright. He turned upright. And after turning upright, he moved a little. He moved his mustache. So, I had the experience that he is alive. Yes. Seeing him, a thrill arose within. It had an effect. Yes. It had an effect. So, it was known that he is not dead yet. There is a soul in him. If there is a soul, then its effect on you will be of a different type. And if it is a dead body, then it will be of a different type. That's the difference. So, the soul is seen with the intellect. Then this is a long and involved task. The rest will be told in the evening. It's over. Time is up. Further discussion will be done later. Thank you. The next announcement will be made by Shri Lal Chand Ji. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
