The White House vowing to keep Americans safe after attacks in Michigan and Virginia last week. The FBI investigating the car ramming attack on a Detroit area synagogue as a quote targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. Anti-semitism. And now the IDF claims the suspect's brother was a Hezbollah commander recently killed in an Israeli strike. Our CB Cotton is live in our New York City newsroom with the latest on all this. CB.
>> Hey Brian. Yeah. In less than a week, multiple attacks across the nation have raised new concerns about domestic extremism. And as you mentioned, today we got a chilling update about one of these circumstances. The Israeli military is saying the man behind the Michigan synagogue attack was the brother of a Hezbollah commander who was killed along with other family members during an Israeli strike in Lebanon earlier this month. On Thursday, the FBI called the truck ramming a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. And staff members have said a classroom filled with children was not far from where the explosive packed truck slammed into the doors of Temple, Israel. The FBI says a suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after on-site security guards fired towards him. The same day, roughly two hours earlier, and more than 700 miles away, a shooting at Virginia's Old Dominion University committed by a convicted ISIS supporter, according to the FBI. Investigators say one person was killed and two others were injured before the classroom of ROC students subdued and killed the attacker.
Now, the White House press secretary calling on Democrats to work with Republicans and pass DHS funding legislation. The president has launched these task forces across the country again to ensure that the federal and local law enforcement agencies are working together. And it's why it's more imperative than ever that Democrats on Capitol Hill stop playing partisan games with our nation's homeland security and fund the Department of Homeland Security, which really serves as the backbone for that intelligence sharing. Before the attacks on Thursday, you may remember it was last Sunday when police said homemade IEDs were carried to a protest on New York City's Upper East Side near Gracie Mansion. Two Pennsylvania teens were arrested for what investigators are calling an ISIS inspired attack. Fox News contributor James Gagleano describing to Fox what he says the nation is dealing with.
>> You're dealing with people that have an an intractable ideology. You apply a grievance to that which sets them off. It's a triggering event. And then you apply the moral absolutism of their cause and that's what this is.

>> The synagogue, the Jewish, you know, targets, and you're going to see more. The idea of shutting down the Department of Homeland Security at such a high terror threat level is unconscionable. And I I think it's it's political malpractice. Uh it it is criminal. And they're going to have if they continue this, Shannon, they will have blood on their hands. The Department of Homeland Security has now been shut down for 30 days. Charles, how much longer can we take this?
>> Well, we are unfortunately going to see more attacks in this country tied to the war in Iran. And Democrats uh are literally committing political suicide here as they continue to gamble with the lives of Americans in this elevated threat environment. We're elevated, by the way. Let's remind the viewers because of the open border policies of the Biden administration which allowed the country to be infiltrated with threats from around the globe. And while Democrats continuously say that they know what the Department of Homeland Security does in its entirety, I'm not sure that they do since they are limiting their battle and focusing on immigration and border security. It does a lot more than that. It's leaving the country vulnerable and it's creating the perfect storm in which our adversaries are going to be able to succeed in more attacks.
>> You know, I want I want to break this down for people because Democrats are saying this is all about ICE funding, but ICE and CBP funding is largely unaffected by this shutdown. In other words, they are funded through the one big beautiful bill. This is this is affecting TSA. This is affecting the Coast Guard. this is affecting our ability to protect cyerspace at a time of of war and conflict. Um, talk a little bit more about about that. I mean, you've got Democrats that are leveraging this all about ICE funding, but in the end, ICE funding and CBP funding aren't really going to be affect aren't being affected by this right now.
>> No, it's not affected at all. Which is why the ransom note written by Democrats is misdirected. It's impacting everybody but ICE and CBP who are both funded extraordinarily well by the way under the big beautiful bill. So there's no concerns there. What they're doing though, they're hitting our cyber uh with the cyber infrastructure security agency, the Secret Service, FEMA, the Federal Protective Service, the list goes on and on. Also the Coast Guard. So really they're they're leaving us so vulnerable uh against our adversaries right now. I recommend that if they haven't read it, which it sounds like some haven't, go back and read the 2002 Homeland Security Act so you can understand exactly every sector and segment of our Homeland Security that the department is actually responsible for.
>> Charles, just uh overall, what are you most concerned about right now given the fact that we've now had four what looks to be attempted terror attacks, terror attacks here in the United States since Operation Epic Fury began? Well, we talk about the terror cell concern. Um, I would say that law enforcement's in a very good place when it comes to detecting that threat. The lone wolves are our greatest threat right now. Uh, tied to radicalization. Radicalization, while it may start online or through some travel to special interest locations, what's changed in that dynamic is now radicalization is alive and well within our own borders here in the United States as a result of the open borders. the last four years. So the problem is radicalization now occurs in every major city throughout the United States as immigrant populations are allowed to to segregate themselves with no desire to ever assimilate to American values or culture. This leaves us very susceptible. They are the hardest threats for law enforcement to detect. And so far the attacks that we have seen so far have been exactly that, lone wolves. former DHS adviser Charles Marino. Charles, thank you so much for your insight tonight.
