We've got a good government. It gets quite boring after a while. Why do they always complain? My legs get so sweaty. So, you also like the politics there? No comment. No comment on that.

I'm here in the streets of Singapore and I want to know from locals that if they had to leave Singapore, where would they go and what's better in that country and would they actually leave Singapore for good? Where are you from?

Singapore. And if you had to leave Singapore tomorrow, where would you go?

Oh, um Okay, that's a really hard question because I've always wanted to live overseas, but probably maybe Australia or London, maybe. London.

London. Yeah.

What do these like Australia and the UK London do better than Singapore?

I think the pace of life is just very different, especially in Australia. They seem to have better work-life balance. I would prefer something a bit slower, a bit more outdoorsy, a bit more like family-orientated, which is what I see in Australia, especially.

What is something that you don't like so much about living in Singapore?

The weather.

[laughter] It's really hot all the time. In any other country, actually, um we have seasons and I really miss wearing boots. Wearing boots here sucks.

You're the only person who loves Singapore weather. I think it's so nice not to wear the like winter clothes, but I get I get that people sometimes maybe get yeah, the desire to wear some other clothes. Do you think Singaporeans do not appreciate Singapore enough?

I think there's a bit of like a grass is always greener on the other side type thing. But there's lots of great things about Singapore. It's great um if you're looking to settle down. But for someone like me who loves to travel and like likes to be outdoors is is just I want to experience living somewhere else, yeah.

What does Singapore do better than most other countries?

I think our public transport system is really great. Uh I think our healthcare system is really great. So, those are two really major aspects of living in Singapore that um are great draw to people who want to live here, I think.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good?

Oh, yeah. I think so.

Really? I think Singapore is the best place in the world. Where are you from?

Singapore. Singapore. If you had to leave Singapore and move to a different country, where would it be?

Bali.

[laughter] America.

America, interesting. What does that country do better than Singapore?

The pace is like generally slower and there's more beach, more sunny vibes, I guess. Yeah. I like the culture more. More carefree.

More carefree in the US. Okay, so you also like the politics there?

Um no comment. No comment on that.

Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. What's something that you don't like so much about living in Singapore?

In Singapore, we're very fast-paced and like the education system, we're just taught to like go and go and go. There's no like like we typically follow the typical route, which is like go to poly, go to uni. If you don't have a degree, maybe you don't seem to be successful or be perceived as doing as well.

I agree 100%. I also think Singapore is way too hot.

Too hot?

Yes. Way too hot.

Okay, I love the weather, but I'm probably the only one here. Do you think Singaporeans appreciate Singapore not enough?

Okay, like even though like a lot of Singaporeans say like I'd rather immigrate or like but once they do that, like once they go overseas for at least a month for uni students for like exchange, right? A lot of people will start saying oh, they miss their home cooked food or they miss like their friends in Singapore. So, I guess that's not true.

I think most Singaporeans do appreciate Singapore. Like they appreciate the safety here, the friendships here. And yeah, even though they go overseas, I feel like it's just for like travel or short term, but ideally they would want to stay here.

But if If say Singaporeans appreciate it enough, why do they always complain?

I feel like it's part of our culture, complaining.

What does Singapore do better than most other countries?

Our currency is like stronger and our passport is stronger. Yeah.

[music] Safety and I feel like we have very good like political and education system also. At least better than most other countries.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good?

Yeah, if I I could like get a career opportunity like overseas. Yeah, I could settle there then yeah, I'll consider.

Uh maybe, but not so sure yet.

Would that be Bali?

Yeah.

[laughter] You want a job in Bali? What do you do for a living here?

Um I'm currently just uh intern because like I'm still in university. Yeah.

Where are you from?

I'm from Singapore. I'm from India.

If you had to leave Singapore tomorrow, where would you go?

Uh US. Yeah, US US.

And why why?

Cuz I can go NBA.

Bro, you copied my answer because I could go NBA.

So you think the US is better than Singapore?

No. Uh yeah.

Okay, he thinks the US is better than Singapore. Let's leave it at that. What's something you don't like so much about Singapore?

It's expensive.

This guy.

[laughter] No, I don't like I like everything.

He likes everything. Okay, do you think Singaporeans don't appreciate Singapore enough?

I think they appreciate it.

Yeah, I think they appreciate it.

What does Singapore do better than most other countries?

A lot of greenery. Keep it safe and clean.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good?

No. Nah.

No. No, not for me.

Where are you from?

Singapore. Singapore, too.

And if you had to leave Singapore tomorrow, where would you go?

China. Thailand.

And what does China or Thailand do better than Singapore?

They are very efficient. Uh the service also quite good when I was there. Uh no language barrier. Easy for me, I would say for my case. It's pretty safe. Uh they are also big cities like Beijing, Shanghai. Yeah, also I think about I do not really need to uh do much to adapt. Yeah.

Okay. Yeah. Okay. Food and shopping.

What's something that you don't like so much about living in Singapore?

I'd say fast very fast-paced. Yeah. Recent years, a lot of changes. After COVID, uh expenses very high here. And job is very uncertain now. Yeah. Yeah, high retrenchment. You don't know when you are going to get retrenched. Uh I'll say high cost of living.

I'm I'm blessed to be in Singapore to born and be bred in Singapore. Um maybe sometimes people take things for granted.

Yes.

Does Singapore do better than most other countries?

Um Efficiency. Very clean, very neat, organized. Safety. Safety, yes. Yeah. Safety and security. Yeah.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good?

No. Really no.

No. No, not for me.

Where are you from?

Philippines.

And do you live in Singapore?

Yes, I do.

If you had to leave Singapore tomorrow, where would you go?

Maybe Philippines or Korea.

Why do you think these countries do better than Singapore?

It's more like vibey and stuff. It's more there's more things to do.

What is something that you don't like so much about Singapore?

Um it's very small. It gets quite boring after a while.

Oh, did you say Singapore is boring?

Um because usually we you um people usually only hang out in certain places. So, after some time it gets quite boring.

Okay, but then that's on you, right? Because if you keep doing the same stuff, obviously it's going to get boring. You just need to go out and explore more.

Yes, yes.

But can we agree that Singapore actually has a lot things to offer?

Yeah, there's more things to offer if you like try try to explore more.

See, very well agree. Do you think Singaporeans don't appreciate Singapore enough?

No, not really. No, not really.

So, you think they appreciate it or not?

I feel like they can be a little more like they can appreciate it more, but I feel like in general they appreciate it.

What does Singapore do better than most other countries?

Uh the taxes go to the the public transport is very nice, the health care is very nice, and it's very well developed.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good?

Maybe, yes, yes, maybe.

Where would you go?

Uh Philippines because I have a lot of family there.

Okay, very hard to understand for me. I think Singapore is the best place in the world. If you had to leave Singapore, where would you go?

Thailand. Japan. Korea. Korea.

Can you come a little bit closer? I got to ask you again.

Korea. Korea.

Yeah, I cannot hear you.

Korea.

What does that country do better than Singapore?

It's just cheaper. And got more stuff, yeah. More stuff also, more stuff.

Just the food there.

What's something that you don't like about living in Singapore?

All. Very limited.

There's nothing much to do.

You think there's not much to do in Singapore?

I mean, I feel like there's nothing much. That is very like it's the same few things.

Okay.

Do you think Singaporeans appreciate Singapore enough?

It depends. Some people do, some people don't.

Do you?

Yes, I appreciate.

Yes, yes. I appreciate.

But in general, you think Singaporeans don't appreciate it enough here?

Yeah, I think I think things for granted.

Would you ever leave Singapore for good and move to another country?

Maybe. No. For now, no.

Where are you from?

Singapore.

And if you had to leave Singapore tomorrow, where would you go?

Italy.

Italy. So, what does Italy do better than Singapore?

I guess it has a lots of nature. So, if you go to the northern part of Italy, you have Lake Como, which is very beautiful mountains, big ocean lake.

Have you been?

Yes, I have.

And very good pizza and pasta. What's something that you don't like so much about living in Singapore?

I guess the work stress that we have in Singapore that you if you work for a company that is you know, global company, you tend to have to work in the evenings as well because you have night calls with the other countries.

Do you think Singaporeans don't appreciate Singapore enough?

I think so, sometimes. Yeah, because I have lived in Australia for 10 more than about 10 years. Yeah, so when I came back, I actually do really appreciate Singapore just for the efficiency that we have over here. We've got a good government who looks after the citizens. So, coming from after living in Australia for 10 years and coming back here, I feel like there's there's a bit of a difference that I mean, there's good and bad in every every places.

That was actually just my next question. What do you think Singapore does better than most other countries?

I I personally feel that we have a really good government who looks after the citizens. I know that you know, there are many complaints about the government in different I mean, it's always like that, but and the grass is always greener on the other side, but we are definitely looked after by policies that we have. The citizens are well looked after, I think. And it's very safe in Singapore. You can go anywhere 2:00 a.m. in the morning, and you can walk on the streets being safe. I think that's a luxury that many Singaporeans don't appreciate. That they don't they don't realize that that is a blessing.

100% agree. And now my last question, would you ever leave Singapore for good?

No, I don't. I think I'll be here for a for a long time.
