Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. Today we're tackling the top 10 lies Christians believe and the truth according to the Bible. Some of these might surprise you. So grab your Bible and let's dive in.
Lie number one, once saved, always saved. Many believe that once you're saved, you can never lose salvation, no matter what. But the Bible warns against falling away. Some think salvation is a one-time deal. Get baptized, say a prayer, and boom, heaven's guaranteed. No matter how you live after.
But God's word warns, "If people know the truth, then reject it, there's no second chance." Hebrews 6:4-6. Jesus said, "Only those who keep following him are saved." Matthew 24:13. And if you quit, Peter says it's like a dog eating its own vomit. Disgusting and dangerous. 2 Peter 2:22.
Salvation isn't a get out of hell-free card. It's a forever yes to Jesus. Trip up. His grace picks you up, but walk away. That's playing with hellfire. So keep running. Your king waits at the finish line.
Lie number two. God just wants you to be happy. Some say God just wants you happy. Do what feels good. But Jesus drops a truth bomb. Follow me. Deny yourself first. Matthew 16:24. James 4:4 is brutal. Flirt with the world. That's cheating on God.
Real joy isn't in stuff. It's in surrender. Romans 14:17. Here's the secret. Holiness is happiness, not the fake fluffy kind, the unshakable kind that comes only from Jesus.
Lie number three, all sins are equal. While all sin separates us from God, scripture shows some sins have greater consequences. John warns some sins are deadly. 1 John 5:16. And Jesus said, "Knowing truth but disobeying." That's a spanking. Luke 12:47. All sin hurts God, but some wreck us. Good news, wisdom avoids the big traps.
Lie number four, if you have enough faith, God will make you rich. Prosperity preachers promise wealth, but Jesus warned against loving money. Send $100 as a faith seed and God will give you a mansion. At least that's what the shiny-suited preachers claim. But Paul warned, "Money lovers, that's a trap." 1 Timothy 6:9.
Jesus didn't say store up Teslas. He said store up treasures in heaven. Matthew 6:19. And Hebrews 13:5 adds, "Be content with what you have." James 2:5 says, "God has chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom." Matthew 19:24 also warns that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Therefore, real faith isn't a vending machine. It's saying, "God, I trust you, whether rich or poor, and give thanks in all circumstances."
Lie number five, God won't give you more than you can handle. This popular phrase sounds nice, but the Bible actually says, "God won't let us be tempted beyond what we can bear." Not that life won't overwhelm us. In 2 Corinthians 1:8, Paul confessed, "He faced burdens far beyond his strength."
God does let life overwhelm us, so we'll grab his hand. He provides the escape route. 1 Corinthians 10:13, "But only if we stop pretending we're strong enough." Here's the secret. When life breaks you, God holds you. His enough replaces your I can't.
Lie number six. Prayer is just about asking God for things. Prayer isn't a wish list. It's a way to deepen relationship with God. It includes confession, praise, thanksgiving, request, surrender, and intercession for others. Some treat prayer like a cosmic vending machine and God like a genie. Insert request out pops blessing.
But Jesus taught us to pray very differently. Matthew 6:9. Jesus taught us to pray, not God, do my will, but your will be done. The Lord's prayer starts with surrender. Your will, not my wants. And Paul says to mix requests with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6. That changes everything.
Prayer is communion with God. Even Jesus, the son of God, retreated to be with the father, not just to ask, but to abide. Luke 5:16. Prayer isn't just about getting stuff. It's about getting close. God isn't your cosmic genie. He's your heavenly father. And prayer isn't a transaction. It's a relationship.
God still cares about your needs. Matthew 7:11 tells us, "How much more will your father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?" So yes, ask, bring your needs, but don't forget to bring your heart.
Lie number seven, real Christians don't struggle with sin. Some think following Jesus means instant sinlessness, that bad thoughts, anger, or temptation vanish overnight. So we hide behind masks pretending. But even Paul cried, "I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." Romans 7:15.
If the apostles struggled, why do we shame ourselves for fighting sin? God never expected perfection. He offers forgiveness. If we confess our sins, he will forgive and cleanse us. First John 1:9. Your struggle proves you're his, not Satan's puppet.
Real Christians don't surrender to sin. They fight it. And the fights won by the help of the Holy Spirit who is in you, not your willpower. Galatians 5:16. Sanctification isn't a straight line. It's daily grabbing grace. Paul said, "I die daily." 1 Corinthians 15:31. Your battle proves you're alive in Christ.
Lie number eight, the Old Testament doesn't matter anymore. Some treat the Old Testament like yesterday's newspaper. Been there, read that. But Jesus warned, "Don't ignore one stroke of God's word." Matthew 5:18.
Jesus is all over the Old Testament. He's the Passover lamb, the snake on the pole, the forever priest. Miss the Old Testament? You miss Jesus. Luke 24:27. The Old Testament is quoted over 300 times in the New Testament. Need wisdom? Read Proverbs. Need comfort? Read Psalms. How to love God. Read Deuteronomy 6:5.
The Old Testament isn't a relic. It's a toolkit. 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The Bible isn't two books. It's a unified testimony of God's redeeming work from beginning to end. The Old Testament is the key to understanding Jesus, why he came, why he had to die, and how his resurrection saved the world. The Old Testament is not outdated, but essential and alive. Helping believers understand who God is and how faith is to be lived out.
Lie number nine. Faith means never doubting. We've all heard it. If you doubt, you don't have real faith. And doubt leads to rebellion against God. So, we fear to ask questions. But a faith that can't handle questions isn't true faith.
Look at the Pharisees. They never doubted what they know. Yet their certainty made them proud, rigid, and disconnected from God. God isn't afraid of our doubt. True spiritual growth comes when we struggle with questions, seek understanding, and lean on the Holy Spirit for wisdom. If you never learn to examine your faith deeply, you risk becoming spiritually gullible and an easy target for deception.
Throughout the Bible are many notable figures who doubted at some point such as Thomas, John the Baptist, Sarah, Moses, Gideon, Elijah, Jeremiah, the disciples, and the entire book of Job. God never shamed doubters. God told Thomas, "Touch my scars." To John, "See my miracles." To Elijah, "Rest and eat."
Faith isn't certainty. It's courage. Courage to say, "Lord, I don't understand now, but I'll trust you. Help my unbelief." That kind of faith, it moves mountains.
Lie number 10. God helps those who help themselves. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and then God will step in. That's what Benjamin Franklin said, not the Bible. God didn't tell Moses to part the sea himself. He didn't give David a five-step plan to become king. And Lazarus was dead.
God's resume is full of hopeless cases. Jesus didn't heal people who earned it. He healed beggars, sinners, and those who admitted they were stuck. Grace is for the helpless. Luke 5:31-32. God's not waiting for you to get your act together. He's waiting for you to trust in him and wait on him.
God helps the helpless who cry out to him. Romans 5:6. His power shines brightest in our weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9.
