Hello, welcome back to Daily English Talk.

Hi everyone, we are so happy you are here today. My name is Emma and my name is Jack. On this channel, we help you practice real English.

Please, if you like our video, help us by liking it and subscribing to our channel. Yes, it really helps us a lot. Thank you.

Today we are going to talk about something very important. That's right. We are going to learn how to talk about your feelings in English.

So, Emma, how are you today?

I am great, thank you. The weather is nice today, so I feel happy. How about you, Jack?

I am good. A little tired, but good.

Oh, why are you tired?

I watched a very long movie last night. I went to bed very late.

I see. Well, I hope you can sleep well tonight.

Me, too. What did you do this weekend, Emma?

I visited my family. We had a small dinner. It was very nice.

That sounds lovely. I am happy for you.

So, talking about our day is a good way to start talking about feelings. We said, "I am great." "I am good." And "I am a little tired." Yes, "I am" is very useful, but we also said "I feel happy." So, we can use "I am" and "I feel" to talk about feelings. Is there a difference?

That's a good question. Usually, they are the same. "I am happy" and "I feel happy" are both perfect, but sometimes "I feel" is for right now in this moment. And "I am" can be for a longer time.

Okay. So if I say "I am a happy person," it means it's my character. But if I say "I feel happy right now," it's for this moment.

Exactly. You understand perfectly. Let's start with some simple common feelings. Jack, can you tell me a time when you feel happy?

I feel happy when I eat my favorite food. Pizza makes me very happy.

Pizza makes me happy, too. I also feel happy when I talk to my friends or when I finish all my work for the day.

That is a good feeling. When I finish cleaning my apartment, I feel happy. The apartment is clean and I can relax.

Yes, a clean space makes a happy mind. Okay. What is the opposite of happy?

The opposite is sad. I feel sad when it rains for many, many days and I cannot see the sun.

I feel sad when I have to say goodbye to my family after a visit.

Oh, that is a very sad feeling. I feel sad when I watch a sad movie about a lost dog. I always cry.

Jack, that's so sweet. It's okay to feel sad sometimes. It's normal.

I know. It means we care. Okay, so we have happy and sad. What about tired? I am tired today because of the movie.

Tired is another feeling in our body. I feel tired after I go for a long run.

I feel tired when I don't sleep enough. My eyes feel heavy.

So, we have happy, sad, and tired. What other simple feelings can we talk about?

Hungry? I am hungry right now.

Really? It is only 10:00 a.m.

I know, but I did not eat a big breakfast. Just a small banana.

Well, I am not hungry, but I am thirsty. I would like some coffee.

Coffee is good. So we have hungry and thirsty. They are feelings in our body.

Yes. And we can be a little hungry or very hungry.

When I am very hungry, I cannot think. My brain does not work.

Me too. Let's talk about stronger feelings. Now, sometimes I feel very, very happy. That is excited.

Ooh, excited is a great word. I feel excited before a holiday or before I travel to a new place. I think about all the fun things I will see and do.

Me too. I feel excited when I plan a trip. I look at pictures on the internet. But sometimes when I think about the airplane, I also feel a little nervous.

Nervous? Yes, I know that feeling. It is when you are not sure about something and you feel worried, a little scared.

Yes, worried. For example, before I speak in front of many people, I feel nervous. My hands get a little cold.

But you are speaking now in front of our viewers.

That is true. But now I am with you and I am happy. The nervous feeling is gone.

That is good. So excited and nervous can sometimes be together like before the first day of school.

Yes, you are excited to see friends but nervous about new teachers.

Another strong feeling is angry.

Oh yes, angry. I do not like this feeling.

No one likes to feel angry. Hm. I feel angry when I am in a big car traffic. I cannot move and I am late for a meeting.

That is very frustrating. I feel angry when I lose my phone. I look everywhere under the bed, in my bag, but I cannot find it.

That is a bad feeling. So, when you feel angry, what do you do?

I take a deep breath. [sighs] I count to 10. 1, 2, 3 up to 10. Sometimes I listen to quiet music or drink a glass of water.

That is very smart. I should try that in the car traffic. I usually just talk to myself.

What do you say?

I say, "It's okay, Jack. Be patient. You will arrive soon." But I don't always believe it.

It's a good start. Another feeling is surprised.

Surprised. I love that feeling. It is when something happens that you do not expect.

Yes. It can be a good surprise or a bad surprise.

A good surprise is when a friend visits me with a gift or when my boss says, "Good job." [clears throat] Jack. A bad surprise is when you see a spider on your wall or when you forget your friend's birthday.

Oh, yes. Spiders are a very bad surprise for me. I do not like spiders.

Me neither. Let's talk about being scared.

Scared? I feel scared when I watch a scary movie. You know, with ghosts.

Why do you watch them if you feel scared?

It is fun a little. It is exciting, but after the movie, I feel scared of the dark. I have to turn on all the lights in my apartment.

Oh dear. Maybe watch a happy movie next time.

Good idea. What makes you feel scared, Emma?

I feel scared when I hear a very loud noise at night or when I walk alone in a dark place. My heart beats very fast.

Those things make me scared too. It is normal. It is our body saying be careful.

Of course, it is okay to feel scared sometimes. Let's talk about a calm feeling. Relaxed.

Relaxed is a wonderful feeling. I feel relaxed on Sunday morning. I drink coffee and read a book. No work, no stress.

That sounds perfect. I feel relaxed after I exercise or after a hot shower.

Those are good examples. So relaxed is the opposite of nervous.

Yes. No stress, just calm. How about the feeling when you want something or you want to do something?

You mean excited? Similar, but it is looking forward to.

Ah yes, "I am looking forward to." It means you are happy and excited about a future event.

Can you use it, Jack?

Sure. I am looking forward to the weekend. I am looking forward to eating pizza later.

Always pizza. I am looking forward to our next video. I am looking forward to summer.

Me too. It is a positive feeling. Now, what about when you do too much work? How do you feel?

Stressed. I feel stressed when I have too many things to do and not much time.

That is a common feeling. I feel stressed before a big test or a big project at work.

What do you do when you feel stressed?

I make a list. I write down all the things I need to do. It helps me feel more calm and organized.

Another good idea. I should make a list for my work. Let's not forget about feeling bored.

Bored? I feel bored when I have nothing to do. When there is no movie to watch, no book to read.

Really? You never feel bored. You always find something fun to do.

Okay, that is true. But sometimes on a long rainy day with no plans, I feel a little bored.

Then what do you do?

I call a friend or I play a game on my phone or I clean my house.

You clean your house when you are bored.

Sometimes it is not very fun but it is useful. Then I feel good after because my house is clean.

I see. Okay, let's talk about feelings for other people. For example, when your friend is sad, how do you feel?

I feel sorry for them. I want to help them. I say, "I am sorry you are sad. Can I help you?"

That is a kind feeling. We can say "I feel sorry for you." Or "I am sorry you are sad."

And if my friend is very happy, I feel happy for them. I say, "I am so happy for you."

Yes, "I am happy for you" is a very nice thing to say. What about when you see a stranger who needs help? Do you feel sorry?

Yes, I do. I feel sorry for them and I want to help.

Feelings can be complicated.

They can, but with simple words, we can explain them. Let's practice a little more. How do you feel when you get a good grade on a test?

I feel proud. Proud of my work. Proud of my studying.

Proud is a good feeling. I feel proud when I learn a new English word or when I cook a good meal. Our viewers feel proud when they understand our videos.

I hope so. That is a wonderful feeling. How do you feel when you wait for a long time?

I feel impatient. I don't like to wait in a long line at the supermarket. I feel impatient.

Nobody likes to wait, but it is important to be patient.

I am trying. It is not easy.

No, it is not. Another feeling is confused.

Confused. Yes. When I don't understand something.

For example, when I read a very difficult book, I feel confused.

Or when people speak very, very fast in English, I feel confused.

But we speak slowly here.

Yes, we do. So, no one should feel confused. Let's talk about being worried again.

Worried is like a small, quiet, nervous feeling. I feel worried when my sister is late coming home. I think, "Is she okay?"

That is because you care about her. That is a feeling of love.

Love is the biggest feeling.

It is. We love our family. We love our friends. We love learning English.

Yes. And we [clears throat] love our viewers. What about disappointment? That is a sad feeling when something you want doesn't happen.

Yes. I feel disappointed when a picnic is cancelled because of rain.

I feel disappointed when my favorite football team loses a game.

Oh, that's a big disappointment for you.

It is. For 2 days, I feel a little sad.

And what about the feeling when you are very, very tired but also happy?

After a long fun day at the beach. I feel tired but happy. It's a good tired.

Yes, there are no perfect words for every feeling, but we can use two words. "I am tired but happy." "I am nervous but excited."

That's a very good point. Feelings are often mixed. It's not just one feeling.

Exactly. So, it's okay to say two things. How do you feel when you have a lot of energy?

Energetic. I feel energetic in the morning after a good sleep. I feel like I can do anything. I feel energetic after I exercise sometimes, not always.

And the opposite when you have no energy.

We already said tired, but we can say exhausted. It means very, very tired.

After I moved to my new apartment, I was exhausted. I carried many, many boxes.

I believe you. That is hard work. Let's talk about a feeling you have when something is funny.

That's easy. I feel amused. But we usually say, "I think that is funny." We laugh.

Yes. When you tell a joke, I laugh. I think you're funny.

Thank you. I feel happy when I can make people laugh.

It's a great talent. Okay. One last feeling for now. Lonely.

Lonely. That is a sad feeling. You feel alone. You want to be with friends or family.

Yes, I feel lonely. Sometimes when I am in a new city and I don't know anyone.

I feel lonely when all my friends are busy and I am at home alone on a Saturday night.

That's a difficult feeling. What can we do when we feel lonely?

We can call a friend. We can go for a walk in the park. We can come here and talk with you, our friends.

That's a wonderful idea. We are always here for you. Remember, all feelings are okay. It is good to talk about them.

Yes, talking about feelings helps us understand ourselves and it helps other people understand us.

So please try to use these words. Say, "I am happy today" or "I feel a little tired."

It is good practice and it is good for your heart.

We talked about so many feelings today. It was a great conversation, Jack.

It was. But I think it's a good idea to practice some of the key words again to help us remember.

That's a wonderful idea. Let's do a mini vocabulary review. We'll explain a few words slowly and clearly.

Okay, let's start with a very useful word. Our first word is excited.

Excited. Repeat after me. Excited. Excited.

Okay. What does excited mean, Emma?

It means you are very, very happy about something that will happen in the future. It's a positive feeling about what is coming next.

Can you give us an example?

Of course. "I am excited for my birthday party" or "She is excited about her new job."

Perfect. My example is "The children are excited for the summer holiday. They can't wait for it to start." Yes, that's the feeling. It's like happy energy. Now, our viewers, can you think of one thing you are excited about? Try to make a sentence. "I am excited about..."

Let's give them a moment. Did you think of one? Great.

Okay. Our second word is very interesting. It is nervous. Repeat after me. Nervous. Nervous. This is an important one.

Nervous is when you feel a little scared and worried about something that will happen. You are not sure about the result.

Yes, your hands might feel cold or your heart might beat fast. It's not a bad feeling. It's just uncomfortable.

Can you give an example, Emma?

Sure. "I feel nervous before I take a test." Or "He is nervous about speaking English with a native speaker." And my example is "I was nervous on my first day at work. I didn't know anyone and I was worried about making mistakes."

But it was okay, right?

Yes. After a few hours, I felt relaxed. So the nervous feeling went away.

Exactly. It's usually a temporary feeling. Now let's move to a very nice word. Our third word is relaxed. Repeat after me. Relaxed. Relaxed.

Uh, I love this word. Relaxed is the opposite of nervous or stressed. It means you feel calm, peaceful, and comfortable. No worries.

It's a feeling of quiet happiness. For example, "I feel relaxed when I listen to soft music." Or "After my vacation, I feel completely relaxed." My example is "On Sunday morning I drink coffee and read the news. I feel very relaxed."

That sounds perfect. So when you are relaxed, your body and your mind are at rest. It's a very good feeling.

Okay. Number four is a positive word about you. The word is proud. Repeat after me. Proud.

Proud. This means you feel very good about something you did or something someone else did. It's a feeling of satisfaction.

You feel proud when you work hard for something and you succeed.

For example, "I am proud of my English progress" or "Her parents are proud of her for graduating from university." And my example is "I was proud of myself when I cooked a big dinner for my friends and it was delicious."

As you should be. That's a great accomplishment. So feeling proud is like giving yourself a small internal prize.

I like that. Now for our fifth and final word. This one is very useful for being kind. The word is sorry.

Sorry. Repeat after me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

This word has two main uses. Can you explain the first one, Emma?

Of course. First, you say "I am sorry" when you make a mistake. For example, if I step on your foot, I say, h I'm sorry. It's an apology. The second use is to show sympathy. If your friend is sad, you can say, "I'm sorry you are sad." Or, "I feel sorry for that lost dog." It means you understand their bad feeling and you care.

So sorry can be for your own action or for another person's situation.

Exactly. It's a very important word for good communication.

Let's quickly repeat all five words one more time. Everyone repeat with us. Excited. Very happy about a future event. Nervous. A little scared and worried. Relaxed. Calm and peaceful. Proud. Feeling good about an achievement. Sorry for an apology or for sympathy.

Excellent. Try to use these words this week. You can write them in a sentence in your notebook or say them out loud.

Practice makes perfect. Thank you for reviewing with us.

Well, Jack, that was a really great conversation. I feel like we talked about so many different emotions.

We really did. From happy to sad and even excited to nervous. I think we covered a lot of ground. It's time to wrap up our lesson for today.

It is. So, let's do a quick summary for our viewers. Today, we practiced how to talk about our feelings in English. We learned that it's okay to have all kinds of feelings.

That's the most important part. All feelings are normal. The key is to be able to talk about them. We used many, many words today.

Let's remember them together. We started with the simple ones. Happy, sad, tired, hungry, and thirsty.

Right? Those are like the basic building blocks. Then we moved to stronger feelings like excited and nervous. Remember you can feel both at the same time.

Exactly. And we talked about angry and what we can do when we feel that way, like taking a deep breath.

We also discussed surprised, which can be good or bad, and scared, which is our body's way of telling us to be careful. Then we contrasted those with the calm feeling of being relaxed and the busy feeling of being stressed.

Let's not forget bored, which happens when we have nothing to do, and proud, which is that wonderful feeling when you achieve something.

And we talked about feelings for other people, like feeling sorry for someone or happy for them. We even touched on impatient, confused, disappointed, and lonely.

Wow, that is a long list. But remember, you don't need to use them all at once. Start with one or two new words each day.

And the grammar is simple. You can almost always use "I am" or "I feel" with these words. "I am happy." "I feel tired." "I am excited." "I feel nervous." Perfect.

Now, it is time for my favorite part of our video.

Mine, too. It's time for our question of the day.

Are you ready? Today's question is all about using what you learned.

The question is, what is one thing that made you feel happy this week?

Let's think of some examples to help. Jack, what made you happy this week? [snorts]

Hm, this is a good question for me. This week I talked to an old friend on the phone. We laughed for 1 hour. That made me feel very happy.

Oh, that's a wonderful example. Talking to an old friend. So you could write, "Talking to my old friend on the phone made me happy."

Exactly. What about you, Emma? What made you happy?

Let me see. This week, the sun was shining, so I ate my lunch in the park. That simple thing made me feel very happy and peaceful.

Eating lunch in the park. That sounds lovely. So you could write, "Eating lunch in the park made me happy."

So viewers, now it is your turn. Think about your week. What is one thing, big or small, that made you feel happy? It could be drinking a good cup of coffee, watching a funny video, finishing your work, or talking to your family. Please try to write your answer in the comments below. You can write a short sentence. We promise to read as many comments as we can. We love to hear from you.

It is the best way to practice your English. Don't be nervous. Just try write one sentence. We are all here to learn together.

And if you want to practice another feeling, you can also write that. For example, "I felt a little tired this week because..." but we hope you feel happy.

Before we go, we want to thank you for spending your time with us today. Learning a language is a journey and we are so happy to be on this journey with you.

Yes, thank you. Remember to be kind to yourself. Some days your English will feel great and some days it might feel difficult. That is completely normal.

The important thing is to keep practicing a little bit every day. Maybe watch one of our videos again or listen to an English song. We will be back next time with another real-life English conversation. Next time we will talk about a different topic.

Ooh, a secret. Maybe we will talk about hobbies or about food. You will have to come back to find out.

So, if you haven't already, please subscribe to the channel and click the bell so you don't miss our next video. From all of us here at Daily English Talk,

keep learning, keep practicing, and have a wonderful
