Hi everyone, Casey Thompson here. A very important question I was asked is: why is forgiveness important?
First of all, you have to understand: what is forgiveness? It is a byproduct of being present and tying into your power of now. The transcending of the ego, which is just your fake identity. Holding grievances and resentments stem from living in the past. You see, the ego identifies with past hurts and injustices because they give it a story of victimhood.
When you are present, you realize that nothing you ever did or that was ever done to you could touch the powerful essence of who you are. This realization really renders the past powerless. You see, the ego thrives on conflict and judgment. But you are not your ego. By being present and observing the ego without identification, its power to control you and your reality weakens. The need to hold on to resentment disappears because it no longer serves the false self.
You see, when someone has wronged you, their actions were rooted in their own ego, not from their true essence of who they truly are. When you recognize this—that their hurtful behavior toward you came from their ego, not their true essence—it becomes much, much easier to detach from the personal offense. This recognition doesn't, by any way, condone the behavior, but it frees you from being emotionally stuck to it.
Once you understand this, and you stay always in the present, the very concept of forgiveness becomes unnecessary because there is no longer a need to forgive, because there's nothing to be healed from the past in the present moment. The past simply ceases to have absolutely any power over you.
