It is not really looking good for the future of sports cards. Particularly baseball cards, as next year, there is an impending lockout of Major League Baseball. And Topps, without saying it, kind of revealed their plan for next year. And I don't like it. And I, I don't think you guys will like it either. So, we'll talk about it in this video today and hopefully make some light of the situation.
But anyways, what is going on everybody? It is Grip back with another video for you guys today, of course. Before we get in the video, let's plug the giveaway. At 13,000 subscribers, giving away hobby packs of Series 1. All you got to do, be subscribed, like this video, turn on the post notifications, and comment down below the craziest, wildest, boldest take for your favorite team this baseball season. We'll announce the winner at 13,000 subscribers, so there is that. Excuse me. Still dealing with the cough. It's terrible, but we're still here, right?
Anyways, >> [clears throat] >> let's get right into the video. Not going to waste any more time. I have to record two videos. So, going to be tough on the voice, but that's how it is. I got my drink. I got my drink and now let's just wing it, right? That's what we're going to do.
Anyways, hopefully this cough goes away soon. Hopefully. I'm leaning it towards being an allergy cough, cuz I read up what the symptoms are and pretty, pretty much close to what mine is. Says it can last weeks and it has lasted weeks. It's been about 2 weeks so far and um, not fun. Not fun at all because every time you, you take a breath and you try to talk, you have the urge to cough. >> [cough] >> Like [clears throat] that. But uh, yeah, hopefully it goes away soon. Everything in Western Pennsylvania right now is blooming um, which is terrible. So, yeah. Unfortunately, I have to deal with it.
But anyways, we have a big week ahead, man. A big week ahead. NFL Chrome. DON'T WORRY. I GOT a video coming out coming out about that tomorrow. Oh boy, NFL Chrome is going to be hard to come by, I think, because these companies online are putting out bounties. Not really a bounty, but what they're going to pay you for a hobby box. And um, yeah, so if you expect to get a jumbo hobby box or a hobby box of NFL Chrome, it's going to cost you a pretty penny if you already haven't got one. Um, that's a problem. And that is a big problem that we face today as a hobby society. Um, but we're not here to talk about that today. We'll talk about that tomorrow, so stay tuned for tomorrow's video about that.
Um, but I want, I want to give you guys a little rundown real quick. I want to give you guys a little bit of a rundown next week on what to expect on the content. So, Monday, it's going to be treated just like a normal release. Monday, best way to buy Chrome football. Tuesday, watch before you buy Chrome football. And Wednesday, top 10 most valuable Chrome football. So, we're going to be doing the whole schmorgasboard of of content for football next week. >> [cough] >> So, going to be a big week next week. Going to be a big week next week and I can't wait.
But anyways, I don't want to talk about next week just yet. That's what next week is reserved for. I want to talk about the future of Topps, particularly 2027, because at this industry press conference that they've had, um, they kind of revealed a lot of things. Not just for the end of the year, which I do want to start off with something at the end of the year. But then we're going to focus on 2027 because they are calling 2027 the year of the entertainment cards. Yeah. That's what they're calling it, the year of the entertainment cards.
So, it's not a secret. It is not a secret that there's not going to be a baseball played next year. The odds of a full season of baseball being played next year is probably less than 10%. As you guys know, owners and players are going to go at it December 2nd. A lockout is officially going to take place where the players are going to be locked out of the league via no new CBA agreement. And with that being said, with there's no CBA agreement, I'm not entirely sure how this works. But there might not be any licenses to baseball cards produced next year. There might not be.
Now, there might be minor league cards produced because the minor league baseball, MILB, is not in the same CBA as Major League Baseball. They're two different CBA agreements, right? So, there might be Bowman, Bowman's Best, Bowman Chrome, Bowman Draft without Major League players in them. So, you know, all your Major League players in those products that they like to put in there as well, um, probably not going to be in there. I don't think that they're going to be allowed to produce baseball cards next year. If there is no CBA agreement, I don't think there's going to be any baseball cards next year, at least for Major Leaguers. Now, minor league players, that's a different story. I think that'll happen because two different CBAs.
So, what Topps >> [cough] >> Excuse me. What Topps is doing is they're basically getting ahead of the curve. They are getting ahead of the curve and giving us a sneak peek of what to expect in 2027. And I'm going to be honest. I kind of like where they're going with this. Except it's going to come at the cost of no baseball cards, which of obviously, we are a baseball-centric channel here first. So, if there's no baseball being played next year or no baseball cards being produced, it kind of puts me out of a job. I mean, kind of.
Now, we cover football and basketball here on the channel as well, which thankfully, those will still be coming out. So, we don't have to worry about those being gone. But um, next year might be rough. It really might be rough next year without baseball cards if they are not allowed to produce them. Same thing with video games. MLB The Show. Um, I don't think they're allowed to produce MLB The Show next year if there's no CBA agreement. They can't release it. So, that's to my knowledge, my understanding of it.
So, it's going to be a long year, man. I really hope they get to this agreement just on my personal opinion level. I really hope they get to to the business of this CBA negotiation and all definitely pretty quickly. Um, because December 2nd, believe it or not, I mean, we're in April already. We're already in April. We're almost halfway through the month of April already, believe it or not. And by the time you blink a couple times, turn your head, that quick. That was a terrible snap. That quick. December 2nd will be here in a blink of an eye. And a lockout will be taking place. I don't like that.
So, today I am going to tell you guys what Topps has in store for 2027 and something later this year that you guys all like or seemingly like. I like it. We're going to talk about this now. And it has to do with this product right here. The World Baseball Classic. That is right. The WBC boxes. In case you guys forget, every 3 years the WBC comes and Topps liked to do. Well, in the past, in the past, it was an online Topps.com exclusive. It was 120 bucks, which it wouldn't be in today's world, I'll tell you that. But anyways, these boxes were 120 bucks back in the day. And they were Topps online exclusive and that's how you got them.
Well, the first thing I would like to talk about is that product because they actually did confirm it's changing format. The World Baseball Classic boxes are changing formats to a standard hobby box style local card shop style format. Will there be retail? I don't know. They haven't really gone that far in saying what's about it yet. Um, but they did say that the old era of WBC boxes, how they did them in the past, that is gone. They are doing a hobby format now. How you would see like your Series 1s, your, you know, your Stadium Clubs, Updates, Allen & Ginters, things like that. Um, which I don't mind the idea of that. But that also means print run will be a lot higher than what that old product was in 2023 and in years past.
So, the chances of you pulling a Morikawa logo man like this, base relic out of 10, probably one of my favorite all-time pulls, by the way. But anyways, the odds of you pulling that, I mean, they're very tough to begin with, but if they're making a whole new format with a different style, it's going to be pretty tough. It's definitely going to be pretty tough to pull something like that. Um, so I'm very curious. I'm, I'm cautiously optimistic. That's the best way to put it. I am cautiously optimistic to see how they handle this WBC box because I do think it's going to be a lot different. It's, it's definitely going to be a lot different than what it was in 2023. Uh, will I buy a box? Depends on the price. Depends on the formatting, how it works. Uh, but I'll tell you, I'm, I'm going to be spending a lot of money on Chrome Update and Update as I, I imagine a lot of you guys are as well.
Um, I know a lot of you guys are probably going to be putting your money aside like I am myself. I am going to start putting money aside like right now for Chrome Update and Update um, because my guy Connor Griffin is in the product. He's not going to be in Series 2. Um, for anyone who doesn't understand how that works. Um, he's not going to be in Series 2. He might be a short print in Series 2. And maybe I, I don't know. Um, but the rule is you have to make the opening day roster to be put in Series 2. He was not. Just a couple days after the same rule applies. So he'll be in Update. I'm, I'm fine with that. I am completely fine with him being in Update. Um, because he will absolutely probably, probably be the number one selling point of that product. Um, so that, that's fine with me.
Uh, but now to wrap this video up here for the last couple minutes, we are going to talk about the entertainment era. Because Topps said it. 2027 is going to be the year of the entertainment card. And they showed off a ton of different things. Um, a lot of which will take us forever to even get to in this video. So I'm not going to get into it in this video because it would take just a super long time for me to talk about every single release they talked about. But there is three products they specifically highlighted that I am super interested in for 2027.
Now keep in mind, these do not come out this year. So for anyone expecting a SpongeBob Chrome, not going to happen this year unfortunately. It looks like that'll be an every other year set thing like Platinum Chrome, but unfortunately, I mean, SpongeBob's been around for like what 25 years? They have all the material in the world to produce a product every year for SpongeBob if they wanted to, but I guess they're not going to. But anyways, as I was saying, they announced three upcoming products for 2027 that make me really excited. But at the same time at the cost of probably no baseball cards next year. Which I'm not too thrilled about that part.
But anyways, first one being SpongeBob Chrome. SpongeBob Chrome they did reveal is coming back next year. So for anyone wanting SpongeBob Chrome this year, not going to happen. Not unfortunately going to happen for SpongeBob Chrome. Uh, SpongeBob Chrome is going to be an every other year product I guess like Platinum Chrome's going to be. Um, or is I should say, which I mean, that's okay I guess. As long as they put something in that spot for SpongeBob that makes sense. Like for example, let's say October 2026, the later this year, cuz that's when that's when SpongeBob came out last year in October 2025. Um, let's say they do Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Right? TMNT. TMNT Chrome. Something like that. Put something in the off year to coordinate every other year. Or I don't know. Any other Nickelodeon show you can put in there. Any other Nickelodeon show or just a a different variety of Nickelodeon shows you could throw in at that spot. So every other year it's a SpongeBob product or a Nickelodeon product every other year in October. They could do that. I don't know what they're doing this year. They haven't announced anything like that. So uh, I think SpongeBob Chrome is just going to be every other year and that's just how it's going to be.
Moving on, we got Star Wars 50th anniversary. So that is right. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Star Wars. Believe it or not. Star Wars has been around for 50 years next year. And to to commemorate that Topps is going to be releasing a product of Star Wars. Uh, I don't know if it's going to be Chrome or not. They have not revealed anything about it. It's just going to be Star Wars 50th anniversary um, whether it's paper or Chrome or or or however they go about it. Um, that is coming out next year. Very excited about that.
And then this is the one I'm very excited for. This is the one I am very, very excited for. I'm kind of depressed and sad that we have to wait all this time TO GET IT, BUT my favorite superhero, SPIDER-MAN SPIDER-MAN is getting HIS OWN PRODUCT next year. Again, we don't know if it's paper or Chrome or a mixture of both or however they're going to do it. But Spider-Man is getting his own product next year. Um, finally. I can't believe it took this long. Like you would think maybe it's maybe it's something to do with Sony. I don't really know how that works because as you guys may or may not know Spider-Man is not directly owned by Marvel. It's actually owned by Sony. Um, Spider-Man is owned by Sony. They they kind of share him. Um, if that makes any sense, they share him. Um, so maybe this is a Sony thing where they didn't like necessarily agree. But something happened and Spider-Man is getting his own Topps product in the 2027. I am very excited about that one. We We will We will be buying a lot of that. Like if there are no baseball cards next year, which I do think there's probably not going to be at least for Major League players. Um, we're probably going to buy a lot of Spider-Man cards just because Spider-Man's our guy and uh, I love Spider-Man. And uh, yeah, that is basically it for the video guys.
So to wrap this video up um, Topps labeled next year the year of the entertainment card and they revealed a ton of different entertainment releases coming out next year. SpongeBob Chrome, Star Wars 50th anniversary, and Spider-Man all getting their own products next year. Very excited about that. Um, but at the expense of baseball cards. Baseball cards might not be coming out next year. And if that's the trade-off, I wouldn't say that's a fair trade-off because I would obviously rather I I'd obviously rather be opening baseball cards um instead of, you know, entertainment cards, but that's just unfortunately what's going to have to happen. Um, of course, there are going to be a lot of WWE things as well next year and things like that as well. So uh, we have a ton of different things to talk about.
But anyways guys, that's all I got for today guys. Hopefully you guys enjoyed today's video. Starting off with this pack uh, we're going to open this pack of celebration, the last celebration pack that I have and get on out of here. So we are going to open this pack. I'm not going to bore you with the sponsors. You guys know the drill. Um, I'll be at the park in next Saturday, the 18th of April. Um, so I'm just trying to get out of here so I have to record a second one. So here we go. Let's see if we can pull a numbered card. We have not pulled a numbered card in this box. This is the last pack to do so. So yeah, Bobby Witt Jr. Mookie Betts Jacob Young Hoppe Chewetts Reid Detmers Royce Lewis Spencer Schwellenbach a home run leaders. We have here a Junior Caminero. Here comes all the good stuff. So we have here a silver foil of Elias Diaz Pirates legend. We have here a greatest hits of Patrick Bailey from last year. We have here a Corbin Carroll a perennial all-stars Shohei and we got the uh, Philly fanatic. No numbered card, man. No numbered card. Ah. You know, numbered cards are 1.3 boxes or something like that. Very, I mean, it's not like guaranteed to pull a numbered card. It's, it's up there, but it's not guaranteed and uh, we didn't get one. We didn't get a numbered card. So that's kind of unfortunate. So um, yeah. Um, the greatest pull, the best pull in that box we pulled was the Miserowsky opening day foil. Uh, by far easily the best pull we had in the pack or the the box, but uh, not really saying much. Not really saying much because that box was kind of a dud. I'm going to be honest with you guys.
So anyways, that's all I got for today guys. Hopefully you guys enjoyed today's video. Let me know what you think of the era of the entertainment card in 2027. We'll talk about that more next year I imagine. So hopefully you guys enjoyed today's video. Like, comment, subscribe and I'll see you guys in the next one.
