The secret in marketing that they don't teach you in business school, not that I went. The secret in marketing is whoever educates you on the problem, you inherently believe is the best equipped to solve it. If I can articulate your problem with extreme detail, you inherently come to the conclusion that I am the best person to help you.
And a very obvious example is when you go to the doctor. If you go to if you go to the doctor and the doctor just sort of generally is like, "Yeah, you know, it's you got some knee pain. It seems like yeah, you might have you might have heard it." You're like, you are not the person to help me, right? Because they cannot articulate your problem with clarity, with specificity.
But if you go to a doctor and you start, you know, moving your knee around and the doctor's looking at it and the doctor goes, "Oh, you see this muscle?" So this muscle is called this. It's very common people in your profession who do these activities, it's very common for them to strain this muscle. Um, you know, when you strain this muscle, what happens is you also get some referred pain. And then you're like, "Oh my gosh, yeah, my back's been hurting, too." And they're like, "Exactly. That's very common." So this muscle actually goes up your leg and then it impacts your lower back and then you get some referred pain.
The more that they articulate your problem, the more you naturally come to the conclusion, I need I got to hire this person. I got to work with this. This person knows how to help me. And that is the whole secret. That's that's fundamentally why it's like case studies don't matter. Testimonials don't matter. Credibility does not matter. The only thing that matters is your ability to articulate the client's problem. Because the more that you can do that, the more they will naturally assume that you are the best person to help them.
And this is one of those ideas that is so unbelievably hard for people to wrap their heads around because a they don't believe that it's true. They're like, "That seems a little too easy." The problem though, and the reason why people think that is because they fail to realize how much understanding goes into being able to articulate someone's problem. I'm not I'm not talking about like you're not capturing emails. No, no, no, no. That's like the doctor that's like, "Yeah, yeah, you have knee pain." No.
I'm talking about actually building proficiency and getting deep and going, "You're not collecting emails." And the reason you're not is because of this. And what you're trying to do is you're offering a discount. That doesn't make sense because the person doesn't even know if they want to buy the thing yet. The real reason someone isn't typing in their email is because of lack of education. So what we need to do is we need to present an educational offer that actually educates them on a problem that they have.
As we do that over the next 5 days, like the more I articulate that problem, the more you come to the conclusion, wow, Cole really knows what he's talking about. And nobody here is like, "Okay, yeah, but before I do anything, I want to hear a testimonial." You're way past that. You've already convinced yourself because of how well the person was able to articulate the problem. Does that make sense? This is the whole game.
That's why like you nothing will accelerate your progress and growth more than just immersing yourself in learning about the problem that you're trying to solve. Which goes back to fundamentally why like so many freelancers struggle because so many freelancers don't actually give themselves the time to immerse themselves in one problem. What they do is they say I provide every service that solves every problem. Well, yeah. Okay. Which jar is going to grow faster? If every day you put a penny in one jar or you take that penny and you spread it across 10 jars, who's going to grow faster? It's the person who focuses.
So the the whole I the whole reason why it's like pick one service, specialize in it. It's like yeah, that helps from a positioning standpoint, but the real benefit is that it forces you to focus on how do I learn how to articulate the way to solve this one problem. And if you can do that really well, there is quite literally unlimited opportunity. But if you don't know how to articulate someone's one problem, then providing more services doesn't do anything for you. It just makes it worse.
It's one of those like sometimes you got to go make all the wrong decisions for seven years in a row before you realize how simple it is. That's what I had to do. Made every mistake in the book. So that's why I am here to tell you, don't do that. Give yourself time to just get really, really good at articulating one single problem. And if you do that, everyone will trust you because they've never heard someone articulate their problem with such specificity before.
