What if I told you the biggest ocean ever discovered isn't on Earth? It's floating in space.
In 2011, astronomers made a discovery that changed everything we thought we knew about water in the universe. They found a massive cloud of water vapor, not near Earth, not in our solar system, but 12 billion light-years away, deep in the far reaches of space.
And the scale of it is almost impossible to put into words. This single cloud holds 140 trillion times more water than all of Earth's oceans combined. Every ocean, every sea, every river, every raindrop on this planet multiplied 140 trillion times. That is what is floating out there in the darkness.
But here's what makes it truly unsettling. This cloud doesn't just exist on its own. It surrounds a quasar, one of the most powerful black holes in the known universe that is actively feeding on it. A black hole consuming an ocean the size of a universe. And we are only just finding out it exists.
