Hey, hey, hey. This depression thing is a big topic, man. I did a video on this about how to get rid of it, how to handle it, how to manage it, how to actually cure it. And so many people reached out to me. I wanted to to do a follow-up on it. I'm going to share with you what I've done to manage depression in my lifetime. And I have experienced uh what they call depression. Um, which, by the way, I don't even know if it's anything. I think everybody has this experience. Not, not to make little of it, because I know when you're in it, and I was in it for probably 20 years, suffering from this condition that everybody kept labeling that I had a problem, an issue, a chemical imbalance. None of which could be proven, by the way. Zero. None of it. None of it could prove, "Oh, you have a chemical imbalance." Uh, they didn't do a hair sample. They didn't do a blood sample. They didn't do urine tests. They just said, "Hey, bro." Well, one doctor would say I was depressed. The second doctor would say I was bipolar. The third guy would say I had ADHD. I'm like, "Do you guys even know what you're talking about?" You'd see one guy that would listen to you for 25 minutes. "Oh, yeah. You definitely have it." Or they'd open their little book. "Yeah, these are the the indicators of it." Okay.
Now, here, here's the my problem. I, I don't know if this relates to you or not. I have been an ambitious human being my entire life. My whole life, I've dreamed of doing great things. For you guys that are depressed, you're anxious, uh, you can't focus, uh, you go, you, you, you, you, you go do something and you're super, super jacked on it for two or three days and then you lose your. I've suffered from every one of these things. If you don't know who I am, Grant Cardone. I've written nine uh bestselling business books. I've spoke in front of millions of people on on stages. I've consulted some of the largest sales organizations on the planet to increase their revenue. Dude, I've, I, I got $5 billion worth of real estate. I've done unbelievable things in my life while suffering from this thing they call depression. Now, I did something. Stay in this state. Stay on here and I'm going to share with you. Maybe there's a your brother or your son or your cousin or your dad or your mom has these same problems. Okay? Share this video with them, 'cause I guarantee it's going to help them. Okay? Uh, I've suffered from every one of these things. Every one of them. I have two beautiful kids today, great marriage. Like, I have all the things that people say, "Oh my god, you, you achieved the American dream." And I did. I didn't always have what I have today. I grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, raised by a single mom. Have plenty of reasons, by the way, to be depressed. Okay? But I have more reasons not to be. Just keep that in mind.
Now, if you're saying, "Okay, you do a little research on me, you're like, 'This guy's got it made. There's no reason any human being with his condition, with what he's created in his life, would be depressed about anything.'" Well, it's not true because you don't understand depression or whatever that thing is. And I think if you stay to the end of this, you're going to find out that depression is not actually what you think it. It's the flipped version. It's actually something you want, not something you don't want. I grew up, my dad died when I was 10 years old. My dad was busy at work all day long. Okay. He had five kids to fund, uh, at 40, at 48 years old. He had his fourth and fifth kid coming. They had planned out their their kids and their budget. This is back in the 50s, right? When you're managing money and people were responsible back then. And my dad's going to work every day. It's a single earner household. Mom's taking care of the family. Bang. She finds out she's pregnant with twins. He's 48. He just lost his job. Stress in the family. He's trying to figure out how is he going to make all this work. This was not a plan. Anxiety. 10 years later, my dad dies of a heart attack, a bad heart, heart condition. And, uh, now my mom has to figure out how five kids get funded, no income. So there's stress in the family, right? There's a lot of stress and anxiety. And then I lost my dad. 10 years later, I lost my older brother. I get involved in drugs for 10 years. And then at 25, they're like, "Oh, dude, you're manic. You're ADD. You're ADHD. You're bipolar. You're an alcoholic. You're a drug addict. Uh, you have a chemical imbalance. You have a, you have a addiction personality syndrome into the genetic." I'm like, "You guys don't, you had looked at my genetics? How would you know anything about my genetics? You don't, you haven't taken a blood test." All these labels they took me, you know, I, I wanted to get off of drugs. They put me on another drug. I think it was called, um, I don't know, it was one of those drugs they approve of, like a Valium. Uh, you know, it's supposed to calm you down, filter everything, slow your thoughts, take a moment, you react too quickly.
Well, this is what I know today. Okay? For you guys that are suffering from depression or any of these, uh, problems with focusing, you might not have a disease. In fact, you might have something that's called a gift. I believe this today with 100% of my beingness that I have a gift of being warned depression. God warns me when I'm not fulfilling my potential. Okay? Just consider this. And I'm not giving you medical advice, by the way. Neither are they. They're just [ __ ] repeating a bunch of [ __ ] so they could sell you a drug and keep you a drug addict. I'm not giving you medical advice. And I'm telling you, they're not either. They're just regurgitating a bunch of garbage that hadn't been proven. And if you're suffering from one of these things, the ADDs, any of the labels, okay, just go back and ask them. The guy that gave you the label, go back and ask that dude. "Hey, bro, show me how you validated that." Okay? Well, and then they're going to start doing this "well" stuff. I guarantee it's going to open with "well." "Well, it's in this book." Really? What's in the book? Okay. By the way, if I put him in the book, I'll find he's got a disease. They didn't do a blood test. They didn't do a chemical test. They didn't do a hair test. They did nothing. There is no gene test for any of these problems. Okay?
America has more depression than any other country on planet Earth. Why? Because we sell it to the Americans every day. All you got to do is turn your TV on. Two out of every three ads. Two out of every three ads on Fox, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, are [ __ ] pharma ads. "Do you have depression? Do you suffer from anxiety? Do you have stress?" Yeah, I have stress, bro. Okay, I'm down in the gym right now. I don't want to be in the gym. I know I should be in the gym. I should be working out, but I don't. I work out two days and then I can't follow up. Okay, I was excited about my workouts at the beginning of the year and now I can't get in there. Is that depression? No, it's not depression. It's an indication. You don't feel good about yourself because you're not doing the things you need to do. Consider this war, this depression or anxiety as a warning from God. "Hey, get busy. Get back on purpose. Get back to work. Get back to doing [ __ ] you don't want to do." Okay? See, if I'm anxious about a speaking engagement, it doesn't mean I have, uh, anxiety. It means go practice, bro. Go practice it. Go do it. Like, how would you not handle anxiety about something you've never done before? Like, like, let's say I'm not a dancer. I don't know how to dance. And my wife's like, let's say she says, "Hey, you, we got to do dance classes and then we're going to dance in front of other people." Dude, I am going to experience the warning from God that you hadn't done enough practice. And even once I practice enough and then get in front of a bunch of people, I'm still going to probably have anxiety because I haven't practiced in front of a bunch of people yet. So all I'm telling you, and and please share this with somebody that needs it. Your, your brother, your son, your mom, your dad may not have a disease. They may have a gift, a warning from God. "Hey, go serve purpose. Go serve other people. Go be a purpose. Go be a more, a greater purpose."
I know people that have made hundreds of millions of dollars and while they were working, they were fine. They were just fine. They, they, they never experienced any depression. They were up and getting it every day. The moment they retired, they fell into this freaking black hole. No purpose, depression. The depression was saying, "Don't retire." And he did anyway, 'cause somebody talked him out of work. How many times have you heard this? "You work too much. You're too ambitious. Why are you never satisfied?" "Why can't you be happy? Why can't you just be happy?" How many of you have heard this? I've heard it my entire life. I was even labeled that I had, uh, what was the label they gave me? I can't believe this label. They, they called me, uh, uh, I had, uh, overachievement syndrome. Okay? Remember when you were a kid, okay? You dreamed big. When you grow up, you dream small. Look, the problem's not you have a disease. The problem is you're around a bunch of people that label you for being ambitious, for being courageous, for wanting more, for dreaming. Okay? Go back to dreaming and remember, and I, and I hope you pass this on to somebody else. Remember that your depression may be simply God's warning to go do more, okay? To go lean into it.
Last thing I'm going to say to you is this, okay? Phenobarbital was a drug, by the way. I had, they had me on it for 30 days. I was using drugs for 10 years prior to that, every single day. A lot of anxiety drugs, right? A lot of the the Valiums and the, the what with the, the Z's or the not the Z's, the started with the Z or something. Anyway, doesn't matter. They're all the same garbage. They told me, "Do not cold turkey the phenobarbital." They'll all tell you that, by the way. "Don't cold turkey." Okay. I cold turkeyed it. I know a whole bunch of people that cold turkey, by the way. Nothing happened. I cold turkeyed. And if you got a drug problem, if I bring you to an island, okay, if I bring you to an island in the middle of the Pacific and there's no drugs there, or you're a nicotine addict and you have no nicotine there, or you're a porn addict and there's no porn there, I guarantee you'll cold turkey. Guarantee it. Okay? Don't believe everything these people are telling you. They're trying to sell you drugs. They're trying to get rid of your ambition. They're trying to get rid of your courageousness. They're trying to get rid of your godliness, your greatness, your miraculousness. They're trying to get rid of it because when you get powerful, they get threatened. Hope this finds you well. God bless.
Okay, remember when you grow and go and 10x all the people around you that are 2xing, watch you 10x, they get challenged. Then they feel something. What do they feel? Oh yeah, they get warned. "Hey, look at your brother. [ __ ] He's blowing up. Why aren't you blowing up?" Even if it's not just in your own head. "Why is Grant doing so good? Grant just bought a a $300 million piece of real estate and a plane. Why is he doing that?" "Oh, I got to make Grant wrong." Okay. "I got to make Grant wrong. I got to try to take Grant. Make Grant little man, smaller man, wrong man. Grant wants too much. Grant's never satisfied. Grant's greedy, man." See, that's what people do. It's unbelievable how many people that actually take the time to want to hate on someone doing something only because they're not doing something. Hey, God bless. Be great. Hope this helps.
