You think you are going to heaven. You sit in the pews every Sunday. You listen to the homily. You receive the Eucharist. And you call yourself a good Catholic. But what if I told you that the very foundation of what you believe about your eternal salvation is built on a modern comfortable lie? My name is FR Chris Alar. And what I am about to share with you today is a truth that has shocked the church to its very core. It is a truth that many bishops and priests are absolutely terrified to say from the pulpit today, because they do not want to offend you. They do not want to empty the pews. But I am not here to be popular. I am not here to win a popularity contest. I am here to save your immortal soul.
We have lost the sense of sin. We have watered down the gospel of Jesus Christ so much that we have convinced an entire generation that a loving God would never allow anyone to be condemned. But let me be profoundly clear. Jesus Christ, the son of God, spoke about hell more than he spoke about heaven. He did not suffer a brutal, agonizing, bloody death on a cross just so you could live however you want, commit whatever sins you desire, and still get a free pass into paradise. That is a deception straight from the pits of hell. Today, I am going to rip the band-aid off the modern church. I am going to reveal to you what happens the exact millisecond you take your last breath, what the Holy Scriptures actually demand of you, and the terrifying reality of the particular judgment. If you have the courage to hear the absolute unfiltered truth, stay with me. Because by the end of this, your spiritual life will never ever be the same again.
My brothers and sisters, we are living in an era of unprecedented spiritual delusion, and it is silently tearing souls apart for all eternity. I travel all over this country and around the world giving parish missions, hearing confessions for hours on end, and speaking to tens of thousands of Catholics. And do you want to know the single most terrifying thing I see in my ministry? It is not the people outside the church. It is not the atheists or the secular humanists. The most terrifying thing I see is the people sitting inside the church. I call it the great illusion, or what we have historically referred to as cultural Catholicism.
Cultural Catholicism is an insidious spiritual disease where you genuinely believe that just because you were baptized as an infant, or because your parents were Catholic, or because you put a crucifix on your living room wall and attend mass on Christmas and Easter, you are automatically guaranteed heaven. It is the ultimate masterful lie of the devil. The devil does not need you to stop going to church. In fact, he prefers it if you go. He just needs you to go to church spiritually dead. He needs you to go through the mechanical motions of religion while your heart is completely far from God. He needs you to feel comfortable in your sin.
Look directly at the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 7, verses 21 through 23. Jesus Christ speaks words that should make every single human being on the face of the earth tremble with fear. Jesus says, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father in heaven. On that day, many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons in your name and do many deeds of power in your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'" Do you hear that? Read it again. These are not atheists. These are not pagans. These are people who were doing intensely religious things in the name of Jesus. They were prophesying. They were casting out demons. They were doing miracles. They absolutely thought they were saved. They thought they were the faithful chosen remnant. And Jesus looks them dead in the eye at the moment of their judgment and says, "I never knew you. Depart from me." Why? Because their hearts were never truly converted. They were living a a spectacular lie. They were using God's name for their own ego. But they were not submitting their wills to the Father.
This is the shocking truth that has paralyzed the modern church. We have millions of people filling the pews on Sunday morning who are completely, totally unconverted. They are living in states of grave mortal sin. They are skipping the sacrament of confession for years, sometimes decades. They are receiving the Holy Eucharist unworthily, and they are smiling, shaking the priest's hand afterward, thinking they are in perfect friendship with God. We have stripped the gospel of its transforming power. We have turned the one holy Catholic and apostolic church into a mere social club, a philanthropic organization, instead of a bloody, miraculous hospital for desperate sinners. You cannot separate your faith from your daily life. If you are a devout Catholic on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., but you are living like a practical pagan on Monday through Saturday, you are deceiving yourself. God is not mocked. He sees the secret dark places of your heart. He sees the sins you think nobody knows about. He sees the bitter unforgiveness you harbor against your own family members. He sees the impurity you secretly engage with on your screens late at night when everyone else is asleep. And he is commanding you right now to come out of the dark. The illusion of cultural Catholicism is comfortable, but it leads directly to the gates of hell. You must wake up from this spiritual slumber before it is too late, because the clock is ticking, and eternity is waiting for you.
Let us go even deeper into this shocking reality. Why exactly is the church in this state of delusion? It is because we have completely, utterly lost the sense of sin. If you go back 50, 60, 100 years ago, Catholics understood the fundamental difference between a mortal sin and a venial sin. They understood the catechism. They knew that if you committed a mortal sin, which requires three conditions—grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent—you literally severed your relationship with God. You lost the sanctifying grace in your soul. And they knew with absolute certainty that if they died in that state, even for a split second, they would go to hell. What happened to us? We stopped preaching about hell from the pulpit. We stopped preaching about the righteous wrath of God against sin. We decided that the only thing we are allowed to preach about is the love of God. And yes, my friends, God is love. God is infinitely merciful. But God is also infinitely, perfectly just. If a priest only preaches half of the gospel to you, he is not preaching the gospel at all. He is preaching a lethal lie.
Because we lost the sense of sin, the confession lines completely emptied out. And here is where the situation becomes genuinely terrifying for the modern believer. I want you to open your Bibles right now and look at the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians, chapter 11, verse 27. St. Paul writes, under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit, "Whoever therefore eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord." He does not stop there. He continues in verse 29, "For all who eat and drink without discerning the body eat and drink judgment against themselves." Do you realize the sheer weight of what you just heard? When you casually walk up that center aisle at communion time and you have unconfessed mortal sin on your soul—maybe it is living together with your boyfriend or girlfriend before marriage, maybe it is willfully missing Mass on Sundays without a valid reason, maybe it is using contraception to block the gift of life, maybe it is an active, unbroken addiction to pornography—you are not receiving grace. You are bringing divine condemnation upon your own head. You are committing a horrific sacrilege. You are literally trampling under foot the precious body and blood of Jesus Christ.
I stand at the altar and I watch people line up every single Sunday. I watch them walk up casually, chewing on the host like it is a piece of meaningless bread, with absolutely no reverence, no awareness, no trembling before the almighty God of the universe. And it breaks my heart, but frankly it also frightens me for their eternal souls. St. Paul explicitly warns that because of this irreverence, because of this unworthy reception, many of you are weak and ill, and some of you have quite literally died—died prematurely. God takes this seriously, even if our modern culture does not. The shocking truth that the church needs to wake up to is that the vast majority of souls in hell are not atheists. They are not mass murderers or notorious criminals in the worldly sense. The majority of souls in hell are Catholics who took God for granted. They are souls who received the holy sacraments unworthily, who made a total mockery of the blood of the lamb. The devil whispers in your ear, "God is merciful. He understands your weaknesses. You are fine. Just go up and receive." I am telling you right now, that is the voice of a demon trying to drag you into the eternal abyss. You must make a thorough confession. You must cleanse your soul of all mortal sin. Stop playing spiritual Russian roulette with the almighty God.
Now, I want to speak to you about what happens the exact moment you close your eyes in death, because the Catholic Church does not teach soul sleep. We do not believe that when you die, you just go into the ground and wait around unconsciously for the end of the world. The truth of our faith is far more immediate, far more urgent, and far more shocking. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1022, teaches us infallibly: "Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ, either entrance into the blessedness of heaven through a purification or immediate and everlasting damnation." Did you catch those words? At the very moment of his death. There is no waiting period. There is no purgatory for those who die in mortal sin. There is no second chance to say, "Oops, I messed up. Let me go back and fix it." There is no universalism where everyone eventually gets saved. The very millisecond your heart stops beating, and your soul separates from your body, you will find yourself standing directly before Jesus Christ. And you will not be standing before the little baby Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem. You will not be standing before the suffering Jesus silently hanging on the cross. You will stand before the glorified, majestic, terrifyingly just Jesus Christ seated on his eternal throne as the supreme judge of the living and the dead. And your entire life—every single thought you ever had, every idle word you ever spoke, every hidden action, and every single good deed you deliberately omitted doing—will be laid completely bare before you like an open book.
Imagine the shock. Imagine the utter paralyzing terror of a soul who thought they were saved, who thought they had plenty of time to repent, who kept saying, "I will go to confession next Lent," suddenly realizing that time is over forever. There are no more tomorrows in eternity. In the mystical diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska, Jesus reveals the terrifying, stark reality of this judgment. He told her that at the moment of death, the soul sees itself in the pure, unfiltered light of God's absolute holiness. If the soul is in a state of sanctifying grace, it immediately rushes into the arms of a merciful savior with immense joy. But if the soul is in a state of mortal sin, shock is literally indescribable in human language. The soul realizes in a single, terrifying instant the absolute horror of what it has done. It realizes that it has rejected the infinite, burning love of God for a fleeting, pathetic, temporary pleasure that lasted 5 minutes. And then, the soul realizes its eternal, irreversible fate. There is a moment of pure, unutterable agony as the soul understands that it can never, ever change its mind again. It can never repent. It can never pray an act of contrition. It can never love God again. The door is locked from the inside by its own free will. This is the shock of the particular judgment. You are entirely alone with God. Your pathetic excuses will not work. Your friends and family cannot vouch for you. Your bank account means absolutely nothing. It is just you, your conscience, and the almighty judge of the universe. I ask you today, are you living your life right now in such a way that you would be completely ready for that terrifying moment if it happened in the next 5 minutes?
This brings me directly to the most avoided, the most ignored, the most sanitized, and yet the most heavily documented truth in all of sacred scripture and sacred tradition—the absolute reality of hell. Modern liberal theologians, progressive priests, and even some bishops in recent years have tried to convince you that hell is just a state of mind, or a metaphor for being separated from God, or that hell is empty. Let me be brutally, uncompromisingly clear: that is absolute heresy. It is a lie from the father of lies. Hell is a real, physical, eternal place of torment. Jesus Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity, who is truth itself, spoke about hell explicitly, repeatedly, and with vivid, horrifying detail. He said, "It is a place of unquenchable fire," in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 9, verse 43. He said, "It is a place of outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth," in Matthew, chapter 13, verse 42. He didn't speak in cute metaphors when he warned us about the worm that does not die. He was trying to scare the hell out of us—literally—because he came to save us from it.
Saint Faustina, one of the greatest mystics in the history of the church, was given a terrifying, literal vision of hell. I have read her account hundreds of times, and it still makes my blood run cold. She wrote in her diary, paragraph 741, that she was taken by an angel into the deep abyss of hell. She did not see it as an abstract concept. She saw it as a vast, real place. She saw souls in horrifying agony. But she noted something profoundly important that we often forget: the greatest torment of hell is not the physical fire. The physical pain is unbearable—yes. But the greatest torment of hell is the eternal, painful loss of God. The soul in hell knows with absolute, excruciating certainty that it was created to love God and be loved by God. It knows with perfect clarity that it could have been enjoying the beatific vision in heaven for for all eternity. It knows that Jesus Christ shed every drop of his blood specifically to save that soul. And it realizes that it deliberately, freely chose to reject that love for absolutely nothing. The soul in hell is consumed with an eternal, raging hatred—hatred against God, hatred against the demons who tempted it, hatred against the people who led it into sin, and a terrifying, all-consuming hatred against itself for its own infinite stupidity.
Do you know what else shocked St. Faustina about hell? She saw that there are souls in hell who thought they were absolutely guaranteed to go to heaven. She saw priests in hell. She saw consecrated religious sisters in hell. She saw people who performed miracles and prophesied in hell. Why were they there? Because they died with unconfessed pride. Because they died with an absolute refusal to forgive someone who hurt them. Because they died with secret, unrepented sins that they were too ashamed to confess to a priest. This is what absolutely shocks the church today. We have sanitized the gospel. We have removed the cross. We have removed the blood. And we have removed the reality of eternal damnation from our preaching. But I will not let you be fooled by the spirit of this age. If you die in unrepented mortal sin, you will go to hell—not because God hates you. God loves you infinitely. You will go to hell because you chose to reject his love. God profoundly respects your free will. If you spend your entire life telling God to get out of your life, to leave you alone, to let you do what you want, then at the moment of death, God will finally, tragically grant you your wish for all eternity. Hell is the ultimate, tragic triumph of your own free will.
Now, I know that listening to this truth is heavy. I know that your heart might be beating fast right now, and you might be sitting there thinking, "Fr. Chris, this is too dark. This is too terrifying. Where is the hope? Where is the gospel?" My brothers and sisters, I am a missionary of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and I am the director of the Association of Marian Helpers. My entire life's ministry is dedicated to preaching the message of Divine Mercy. I would never ever leave you in despair. Despair is a sin against the Holy Spirit. But here is the shocking, beautiful paradox that the church must understand: you will never ever truly appreciate the infinite, breathtaking mercy of God until you first understand the infinite, terrifying justice of God. Because God is so infinitely just, the punishment for even one single mortal sin is eternal separation from him. The debt we owed was infinite. But because God is also so infinitely merciful, he provided a way out of this nightmare that completely boggles the human mind. He didn't just forgive us from a a—he didn't just wave a magic wand and say, "Oh, it's okay. Don't worry about it." He sent his only begotten son into this filthy fallen world. He allowed his son to be brutally beaten, scourged to the point of near death, crowned with agonizing thorns, and nailed violently to a piece of wood to bleed out every single drop of his uh precious blood to pay the infinite price for your sins and my sins.
But, you must listen to me very carefully. Jesus revealed to St. Faustina that before he returns to Earth as the just judge—to judge the living and the dead—he is coming first as the king of mercy. But he gave a terrifying, urgent warning to our modern generation. He said, "He who refuses to pass through the door of my mercy must pass through the door of my justice." What does that mean for you right now? It means this is the hour of mercy. We are living in the time of unparalleled grace. Pope John Paul II called this the age of divine mercy. But this time of grace is rapidly running out. The sins of this modern world are reaching up to heaven like a foul stench. The millions of aborted babies, the rampant demonic pornography, the horrific sacrilege, the deep-seated hatred, the violence—the cup of iniquity is filling up to the brim. God's justice will not be withheld forever. This is exactly why the message of Divine Mercy is so critically urgent today. Jesus explicitly told Saint Faustina that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which you can pray on your standard rosary beads, is the absolute last hope for salvation for many souls. If someone is dying, or if a country is on the brink of destruction, and they pray this Chaplet with a contrite heart, God's wrath will be held back. But you have to actually repent. You cannot just say the words of a prayer like a magic spell while you are actively, willfully clinging to your mortal sin. Mercy is not cheap grace. Mercy is a lifeline thrown to a drowning man in a raging ocean. But you have to let go of the heaviest weights of sin that are pulling you under. You have to let go of your pride. You have to let go of your lust. You have to let go of your bitterness. You have to drag yourself to put the confessional.
We are rapidly approaching the end of our time together, and as a priest, as a spiritual father, I am going to leave you with a final, shocking challenge. You have heard the unfiltered truth today. You have heard about the deadly illusion of cultural Catholicism, the horrific sacrilege of receiving unworthy communion, the sudden terror of the particular judgment, and the brutal, unyielding reality of hell. You can never again say that you did not know. You cannot unhear this. Sacred scripture says in the Epistle to the Hebrews, chapter 10, verse 31, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." But it also says in Hebrews, chapter 3, verse 15, "Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." Do not close this screen. Do not walk away. And do not go back to your same old comfortable sinful life. Do not let the devil convince you that you will deal with this tomorrow. I have stood at the bedside of far too many people who said to me, "Fr. Chris, I will go to confession next week." And then they had a sudden massive heart attack in the night and died before morning. Tomorrow is not promised to you. Your next breath is a sheer, unmerited grace from almighty God.
Here is exactly what you must do the moment this video ends. If you have unconfessed mortal sin on your soul, you must get to a Catholic priest as fast as humanly possible. Do not wait. The priest is not just a man in a collar. In the confessional, he acts in persona Christi—in the very person of Jesus Christ himself. Jesus said to his apostles on the night of his resurrection, "Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained," in the Gospel of John, chapter 20, verse 23. When the priest speaks the words of absolution over you, it is the literal, actual blood of Jesus Christ washing your soul clean. Do it today. Drop everything. Leave work early if you have to. Go to the confessional. If you do not have mortal sin on your soul, praise God, but you are still called to intense spiritual warfare. Examine your conscience deeply for venial sins. Start praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy every single day at 3:00 p.m., the hour of great mercy, when Jesus died on the cross. Pray the Holy Rosary every single day. Fast. Do severe penance. Stop watching the absolute garbage on your television and your smartphones that pollutes your mind and grieves the Holy Spirit.
My brothers and sisters, I love you too much to lie to you. I want to see every single one of you in heaven. Our Blessed Mother, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, wants to see you in heaven. Jesus Christ is literally begging you, bleeding on the cross for you, to turn back to him right now. Do not let this shocking truth go in one ear and out the other. Let it break your hard heart. Let it shatter your spiritual complacency. Choose God today. Choose life. Choose eternal joy, and reject the lies of the enemy. May almighty God bless you, and may the Immaculate Heart of Mary protect you now and at the hour of your death.
