What if I refuse? They're watching rules now. Once this is signed, it moves fast. That's the point.
On January 8th, 2026, something happened that should alarm every Christian who takes Bible prophecy seriously. The Heritage Foundation, one of the most powerful conservative think tanks in America, released a document that few would have believed possible just years ago. Buried on page 38 of their new report, is something students of prophecy have warned about for over a century. A call for uniform Sunday laws, not in hush tones, not as a fringe idea, but as official policy recommendation for the United States government.
And just 5 days ago, January 18th, the North American Division of 7th Day Adventists issued an emergency press release in response. They called it, and I quote, "a disturbing disregard for the religious freedom of all Americans." They called it "a dangerous desire to use state power to advance religious objectives." For over 160 years, this church has been warning that Sunday laws would come to America. Many laughed at them. Many said it could never happen here, but here we are.
Hold that picture in your mind because it leads us to the heart of this matter. What exactly did the Heritage Foundation release and why should every believer pay attention? The document is titled "Saving America by Saving the Family." It stretches 168 pages and the Heritage Foundation is not some marginal group. This is the same organization that authored Project 2025, over 50% of which has already been implemented by the current administration. When Heritage Speaks, Washington listens, and what they are now saying should shake every American who values religious liberty.
They frame their proposals as a culture-wide Manhattan project to save the American family before the nation's 250th anniversary on July 4th, 2026. The crisis, they argue, is demographic collapse. Declining marriage rates, falling birth rates, families falling apart. And what is their solution? Page 38 tells us plainly, they call for states and local municipalities to restrict commercial activities on Sunday as a way to promote spiritual engagement and provide a regular day of relaxation for American workers.
They cite a 1961 Supreme Court case, McGawan versus Maryland, as legal precedent. That case allowed Sunday laws by accepting the premise that they were labor regulations, not religious mandates. But read the Heritage Report carefully. They link these laws directly to curing what they call "spiritual homelessness." They speak openly of encouraging religious observance. The religious purpose is explicit. This is not speculation. This is not a conspiracy theory circulating on obscure websites. This is page 38 of an official Heritage Foundation document released to shape American policy.
They want states to restrict commercial activity on Sunday. They want a uniform day of rest. And they are calling this a Manhattan project for the family. Think about those words. Manhattan project. The same level of urgency and coordination that created the atomic bomb, now directed at creating nationwide Sunday observants.
Kevin Roberts, the president of the Heritage Foundation, expressed confidence that the Trump administration will embrace these proposals. He told reporters on January 12th, "The good rhetoric from the administration, including the president himself, has signified that they understand that this is a civilizational problem." We have seen the document, the explicit call for Sunday laws, and the confidence that this administration will act.
Next, let us hear how the church that has warned about this for over a century is responding. On January 18th, 5 days ago, the North American Division of 7th Day Adventists issued an official press release. It was not a casual statement. It was a formal institutional response to a direct threat to religious liberty.
Let me read you the exact words. "A proposal by a Washington DC-based advocacy organization to legally recognize and enforce a uniform day of rest represents a disturbing disregard for the religious freedom of all Americans." They continue, "This new proposal for a uniform day of rest is irreconcilable with America's rich heritage of protecting the religious freedom of all its citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs or non-belief. It represents a dangerous desire to use state power to advance religious objectives."
For over 160 years, the 7th Day Adventist Church has warned that Sunday laws would come to America long before anyone thought such a thing possible. They pointed to Bible prophecy and said, "This is coming." They were mocked. They were dismissed as alarmists. They were told that the separation of church and state in America would never allow religious legislation. But they continue to sound the alarm generation after generation. And now in January 2026, the official church statement declares, "Our church leaders in the North American Division and the Union Conferences will continue to uphold the banner of truth and religious liberty, firmly opposing this proposal and any similar measures."
But this January report is not the first time Heritage has pushed for Sunday legislation. Let us not forget Project 2025, the 922-page blueprint that Heritage released before the 2024 election. Turn to page 589. There in black and white, you will find these words: "God ordained the Sabbath as a day of rest. And until very recently, the Judeo-Christian tradition sought to honor that mandate by moral and legal regulation of work on that day." Notice carefully that a few lines below on the same page, it states that day would default to Sunday. They are equating the Sabbath with Sunday. They are claiming that God ordained Sunday as the day of rest. This is a theological claim embedded inside a government policy document.
The proposal continues, "Congress should encourage communal rest by amending the Fair Labor Standards Act to require that workers be paid time and a half for hours worked on the Sabbath." Do you see the strategy? By making Sunday work more expensive for employers, they hope to economically pressure businesses to close on Sunday. It is not an outright ban. It is financial coercion, achieving the same result through different means. And remember, over 50% of Project 2025 has already been implemented by this administration. The January 2026 report builds directly on this foundation, calling for states to take the next step and actually restrict commercial activity on Sunday.
There is another piece of this puzzle that demands our attention. On September 10th, 2025, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University. Just weeks before his death, he had completed what would become his final book, "Stop in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life." The book was released on December 9th, 2025, and immediately became a bestseller, selling out at Barnes and Noble stores across the country. Here's what makes this significant.
Charlie Kirk himself kept the seventh day Sabbath. According to multiple reports, he observed rest from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. He was not a Sunday keeper. Yet in his book, Kirk also promotes Sunday blue laws as national policy. He writes, "Now imagine if America began to honor the Sabbath again, not merely as a personal spiritual practice, but as a national cultural rhythm. Picture Saturday or Sundays once again becoming a time of collective pause when commerce slows, screens dim, and the frenetic pace of life yields to presence, prayer, and family." Notice the ambiguity. Saturday or Sundays. He sees no contradiction.
But according to the Adventist Review, Kirk also defends historical Sunday blue laws, arguing they never violated the separation of church and state. He laments the rise of secularism when Sunday protections disappeared. Since his death, Kirk's memory is being leveraged to advance the Sunday rest movement. Media voices are calling Americans to honor his legacy by adopting Sabbath rest. But the Sabbath being promoted is not the biblical 7th day. It is Sunday, the long-standing substitute promoted by Rome and embraced by most of Christianity. Kirk's book has become a rallying point for the very movement the Heritage Foundation is now pushing. A man who personally kept the seventh day is being used to promote the counterfeit.
For over a century, students of Bible prophecy have been warning that this day would come. They pointed to Revelation 13. They pointed to the prophecy of a power that would cause all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark. Many laughed at them. Many said it was impossible in America, the land of religious freedom. But here we are, January 2026. The call for uniform Sunday laws is now official policy recommendation from one of the most powerful think tanks in America. The question is no longer will it happen. The question now is, what will you do when it does?
Let us be clear about what the Bible actually teaches. In Exodus 20:8-10, we read, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 6 days shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." The seventh day, not the first day. The Sabbath was established at creation when God rested on the seventh day and blessed it and sanctified it. It was enshrined in the fourth commandment, written by the finger of God on tables of stone. Jesus kept the Sabbath. The apostles kept the Sabbath. The early church kept the Sabbath. For centuries, this was not debated.
So, how did Sunday become the dominant day of Christian worship? The historical record is clear. It was a gradual transition accelerated by the influence of the Roman church. By the 4th century, Emperor Constantine issued the first civil Sunday law in 321 AD, calling for rest on the "venerable day of the sun." The church increasingly distanced itself from anything perceived as Jewish, including the 7th day Sabbath, and over time, the authority of the church was placed above the authority of scripture. The Catholic Church has openly claimed this change as a mark of her authority. They say, "We changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. This proves our power to change divine law."
Now consider Revelation 13:16 and 17. "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." A time is coming when worship will be enforced by civil law. Those who refuse to comply will face economic persecution, unable to buy or sell.
What is this mark? It is not a microchip. It is not a tattoo. The mark is a sign of allegiance. It is received in the forehead representing the mind and belief, or in the hand representing action even without conviction. It is the choice to follow human authority over divine authority. The Sabbath is the seal of God, the sign of his authority as creator. "It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed." Exodus 31:17.
Sunday, on the other hand, has no biblical foundation as a day of worship. It rests entirely on the authority of human tradition. When Sunday observance is enforced by law and when people knowingly choose to comply rather than obey God's clear command, they are receiving the mark of human authority over divine authority. This is the mark of the beast.
We have seen the Heritage report. We have traced its connection to Project 2025. We have examined Charlie Kirk's role in this movement and we have connected it to the biblical prophecy of Revelation 13. Next, we will examine what this means for the Constitution and what it means for you.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution begins with these words: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This establishment clause has been understood for over two centuries to mean that the government cannot favor one religion over another, cannot establish an official religion, and cannot use the power of the state to enforce religious observances. Sunday laws by their very nature violate this principle. They establish one religious tradition's day of worship as the law of the land. They burden those whose faith dictates rest on a different day. They use state power to advance religious objectives.
But something disturbing is happening. There is a growing movement among some conservatives to disincorporate the First Amendment from the states. Vice President J. D. Vance has voiced support for this idea. At the National Conservatism Conference, a speaker named Thyman Klein openly called for a return to a time when "states had robust blasphemy, Sabbath, and obscenity laws. Procalitizing was not a free-for-all. Morals were as regulated as health and safety." They are not hiding their intentions. They want the states to be able to legislate religion. They want the power to enforce Sabbath laws. And they believe the Constitution properly interpreted allows this.
Liberty Magazine was founded in 1906 specifically to fight the proposed National Sunday Law of that era. In the very first issue, the editor wrote, "Our Constitution recognizes no other power than that of persuasion for enforcing religious observances. Let the professors of Christianity recommend their religion by deeds of benevolence, by Christian meekness, by lives of temperance and holiness. Government will find its legitimate object in protecting them. It cannot oppose them, and they will not need its aid." Such has been the voice of genuine Christianity wherever it has been heard. When religion becomes an affair of law, it ceases to be a matter of love. This is the principle that America was built upon, and it is the principle now under direct assault.
What is happening in America is not isolated. Across the world, there is a growing movement to promote Sunday rest. In Europe, the European Sunday Alliance brings together trade unions, churches, and civil society organizations to protect Sunday as a common day of rest. They frame it in secular terms, arguing for work-life balance and family time. But the religious foundation is always present just beneath the surface.
Pope John Paul II, in his apostolic letter Dies Domini, called upon governments to guarantee Sunday rest as a fundamental right. He wrote that "Christians will naturally strive to ensure that civil legislation respects their duty to keep Sunday holy." Even secular media is playing its part. Major outlets are promoting what they call "Sunday health reset" and "self-care Sunday" as wellness trends. "Rest one day a week," they say. "Unplug from screens. Focus on family and spiritual renewal." And which day do they always suggest? Sunday. It sounds harmless. It sounds healthy. But it is conditioning millions to associate rest with Sunday, preparing hearts and minds for the day when this becomes more than a suggestion.
Climate change is also being used as justification. Some argue that a universal day of rest would reduce carbon emissions. The arguments may vary, but the destination is always the same: Sunday observance as a societal norm.
Friend, this message is not meant to frighten you. It is meant to prepare you. God never sends a warning without also providing a way of escape. He never reveals trouble without offering the solution. The question is not whether you have the strength to stand in the final crisis. The question is, do you have Jesus? Because if you have him, you have everything you need. If his word dwells in you richly, if the Holy Spirit guides your conscience, if his love has captured your heart, then no power on earth can separate you from his keeping.
So what should you do? First, study the Sabbath truth for yourself. Do not take my word for it. Do not take your pastor's word for it. Open your Bible and read Genesis 2, Exodus 20, Isaiah 58, Mark 2. Know why you believe what you believe. Be able to give an answer to anyone who asks you.
Second, strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Only those who know him will stand when the pressure comes. The crisis will not test your theology alone. It will test your love for God. Those who merely believe in their heads will fall. Those who love with their hearts will stand.
Third, share this message with others while doors are still open. Time is short. Religious liberty as we have known it is under direct assault. The day may come when speaking these truths will be considered dangerous. Speak now. Share now. Plant seeds that the Holy Spirit can water in seasons to come.
Fourth, watch and pray. Jesus warned his disciples to be alert, to not be caught sleeping when the crisis arrived. "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man." Luke 21:36.
Finally, trust God. He has warned us in advance so we would not be surprised. The very fact that you are hearing this message is evidence of his love. He is not trying to scare you. He is trying to prepare you. The same God who parted the Red Sea, who shut the mouths of lions, who brought fire down from heaven, who raised Jesus from the dead. This same God is able to keep you through whatever lies ahead. "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isaiah 41:10.
On January 8th, 2026, prophecy moved forward. The Heritage Foundation officially called for uniform Sunday laws in America. But remember this, God showed us these things would happen. He is not surprised, and neither should you be. Every warning in scripture was given in love. Every prophecy was revealed so that his people could prepare. Stay faithful to his Sabbath. The seventh day he blessed and sanctified at creation. Stay close to Jesus, the only name under heaven by which we must be saved. Stay ready, watching for his coming. Living each day as if it could be the last. He is coming soon. The signs are all around us, and those who trust in him will never be put to shame.
"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14. May that blessing be yours in Jesus' name.
