Your presence and Your image in my life. [Music] Welcome, dear viewer, to the program "Examiners of the Books." We have reached the Book of Isaiah in our study, which is the second largest book in the Bible, with 66 chapters. It is divided into two parts: from 1 to 39, and then from 40 to 66. We can give the first part the title "Judgment and Condemnation," and the second part the title "Redemption and Consolation." Judgment and condemnation upon man, for he deserves it. Redemption, consolation, and connection with Christ the Savior. I invite you to follow with us the study of the Book of Isaiah through the program "Examiners of the Books." [Music] My beloved has a vineyard on a fertile hill. My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill. He dug it, cleared it of stones, and planted it with the finest vines. He built a tower in its midst and also dug a winepress in it. He waited for it to produce grapes, but it produced wild grapes. And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. What more could have been done for my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I waited for it to produce grapes, did it produce wild grapes? And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will be for grazing; I will break down its wall, and it will be for trampling. I will make it a ruin; it will not be pruned or cultivated, and thorns and thistles will grow. I will also command the clouds not to rain upon it. The part we will begin to discuss today is one of the rich, substantial, delicious, and beloved parts by God's people. It speaks about the song of the vineyard. When we read these words, we will know that the vineyard refers to Israel. And when it says here, "My beloved has a vineyard," the speaker is most likely the Father, speaking about His beloved. Because again, it says, "My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill." This immediately brings to mind what is stated in Isaiah 42 and quoted in the New Testament: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Who is the Father speaking about as His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased? The Lord Jesus Christ. But He is not speaking only about Christ. Rather, "My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill." And the vineyard, as we have heard and understood, is the house of Israel. So, if the Father loves the Son, then the Son loves His earthly people, His earthly bride. And we can never forget what we read in Luke 19 when He looked at the city and wept over it. In truth, we do not read that Christ wept when He was being beaten or scourged, but when He looked at the city that would reject Him, and as a result, terrible calamities would befall them and their children. That is why He said to the daughters of Jerusalem, "Weep for yourselves and for your children." But His love made Him shed tears. "My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill. He dug it" - the dealings of care with this nation from its birth, from its beginning. "And cleared it of stones" - He removed the nations from its path. "And planted it with the finest vines" - the best types of vines. "And built a tower in its midst" - the Temple, or the ministry of the prophets. "And waited, and also dug a winepress in it. He waited for it to produce grapes, but it produced wild grapes." And "wild grapes" means grapes like those produced by all the nations. That is, how much He did for them, and He says, "What more could have been done for my vineyard?" I am ready, if there is anything more, tell me, and I will do it. But alas, it produced wild grapes, like those produced by the Phoenician, Egyptian, and Philistine peoples. It did nothing different at all from the rest of the peoples. We can say to Brother Youssef that this blessed song has three very important ideas. It speaks about God's faithfulness on one hand, and the people's failure on the other hand, and the deserved condemnation for this failure. Faithfulness, as you pointed out, never wavered in its right to this people. He told them in verse 4, "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah," meaning you are the defendants and the judge at the same time. "Judge between me and my vineyard. What more could have been done for my vineyard that I have not done in it?" It did not waver, but He did everything that could be done for this vineyard. But on the other hand, we see the people's failure. Instead of producing good grapes, instead of pleasing God and people, instead of obedience, thanks, and service, unfortunately, it produced wild grapes. Therefore, after that, we read about the deserved condemnation for this people. Although its content is a song, the Bible calls it a song because it reveals God's heart to us more. It shows us God's faithfulness and His care for His people. Someone made a comparison between this song and another song, and made a contrast between this song and another song. The similarity, as you mentioned, is the comparison with Moses' song in Deuteronomy 32. The common element is the Lord's faithfulness and the people's corruption and betrayal. But it made a contrast with the Song of Songs in the previous book. We also find a song there, but if in Song of Songs chapter 5 we see the fruit of nature in its most beautiful form, in the Song of Songs we see the fruit of grace, even in the worst types. One was a rebel, a persecutor of the church, Saul of Tarsus, but God's grace changed him and made him the Apostle Paul. And after the Lord gave them all the privileges, all the resources, He gave them His law, sent prophets, performed wonders for them, and all the privileges and resources, everything necessary for fruitfulness. He placed them on a fertile hill, the best location, a beautiful and spacious land flowing with milk and honey. But in the spiritual sense, the vineyard speaks about the responsibility to bear witness to the Lord on earth, the responsibility of man to bear witness to the Lord on earth. Did the people succeed? They failed 100%. And the Lord puts them, meaning He judges the accused, or asks for the opinion of the accused. He argues with the accused and says, "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. What more could have been done for my vineyard that I have not done in it?" A question without an answer. What else could be done? And what was the fruit the Lord was expecting? The Lord was expecting love, obedience, worship, loyalty. But not only did they not produce good fruit, but they produced wild fruit, and worse fruit. As the meaning of "wild fruit" comes, it is bitter grapes, grapes with a foul smell. The worst and bitterest of its fruit is the crime of killing the Messiah, the crucifixion of the Messiah. When He says to them, "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard," the Lord is challenging them, who told them, "Let us argue." The words the Lord said to them should have led to repentance or confession. It depicts a person in his nature, not intending to do so. Even the best, the best types, like David. David experienced something like this when Nathan went to tell him the allegorical story to find out what he had done. He judged the man in the story, but did not judge himself until God directly intervened. If it were not for God's guidance and the Spirit of God in anyone's life, no one would repent just from hearing a word. The word "waited" is repeated in verse 2, "He waited for it to produce grapes," and then in verse 7, "He truly waited." And I believe this is the greatest tragedy. "He truly waited. And behold, blood was shed, and for justice, a cry." I think of Gethsemane, and I wander through the corpses. What happened in Gethsemane? Their voices rose, "Not this man, but Barabbas!" "Let Jesus be crucified, and Barabbas be released." Where is justice? "He truly waited for justice. And behold, a cry." "Wild grapes" - what distinguishes them from other peoples? As we said, they brought nothing better. What distinguishes them from any people? If the Messiah were born among them, and He truly waited. "And behold, blood was shed." His blood be upon us and upon our children. Is there anything more audacious than this? More audacious than this? That in the Book of Acts, in the early chapters, they say, "You will bear the blood of this man." The name of God be upon you. You are innocent people. The Apostle Peter is accusing you with a fabricated charge. What is this? What ignorance and persistence in sin without repentance! Brother Youssef, we understood that Israel, considered as a vineyard, failed. It did not succeed in bringing good fruit to God's joy and the delight of people. But on the contrary, in John 15, we read about Christ as the true vine. He is the one who succeeded by all measures in pleasing God and pleasing people. He satisfied God in His life, in His ministry, to the extent that the Father said more than once, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." And in His life and ministry, He was for the pleasure of people. He used to say, "He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil." And when the miserable and the poor were blessed with true salvation, it was for the happiness of humanity. In verses 5 and 6, we see the punishment of those who despise God's mother, His kindness, and His patience. "Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge." This is the first thing, meaning the removal of divine protection. He leaves them, saying, "I am no longer responsible for you." "And it will be for grazing." "I will break down its wall, and it will be for trampling." And we see the enemies entering and destroying the land, and a sign of the beginning of the times of the Gentiles. "And I will make it a ruin; it will not be pruned or cultivated." The absence of dealings, the dealings of divine care through the role of the prophet or the priest. "And I will also command the clouds not to rain upon it." Meaning, deprived of the blessings of heaven in general, which rain refers to, which is pure teaching and its effect upon them. On the contrary, when He was pleased with them, He said about this land, "The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year." But here, "I will command the clouds not to rain." Imagine when God commands the clouds not to rain upon them. Whoever sins against me harms himself. [Music] For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and His delight is the men of Judah. He looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed and for righteousness, a cry. Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room left, and you are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land. In my ears, the Lord of hosts said, "Surely, many houses shall become desolate, great and beautiful houses, without inhabitants. For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but a pint, and a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah. Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink, who continue until the evening, till wine inflames them! Their feasts are accompanied by the lyre and the harp, the tambourine and the flute, and wine, but they do not regard the work of the Lord, nor consider the operation of His hands. Therefore, my people are exiled for lack of knowledge; their honorable men are famished, and their multitude is parched with thirst. Therefore, Sheol has enlarged its desire and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory and their multitude and their clamor and he who rejoices in it shall descend. Man shall be humbled, and the mighty man shall be brought low, and the eyes of the haughty shall be humbled. But the Lord of hosts is exalted by justice, and the Holy God is sanctified by righteousness. The sheep shall graze where they are led, and the strangers shall eat the ruined pastures. We can see from verse 8 onwards, and the writer was speaking about the nature of the wild grapes that he had previously spoken about. This vineyard did not produce good grapes, but produced wild grapes. What is it? It summarizes for us six terrible woes that will befall this corrupt vineyard. The first of these woes, we read about in verse 8: "Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room left." And here we can see the terrible greed that is in them. They didn't just have one good house, but they didn't settle for house after house after house. So this is a kind of greed that fills the heart. And I believe we can see something like this, for example, in the wicked Ahab, king of Israel, who had many lands, but he coveted Naboth the Jezreelite's vineyard next to him, the poor man who inherited the field from his fathers. They fabricated a charge and stoned the man to seize that field. So the first fruit of the wild grapes is the greed that filled his heart. You made a comparison between the vineyard, which is Israel, and Christ. But we can also find another comparison between Isaiah himself and Christ. Christ cannot be compared to anyone. So here we find Isaiah mentioning six woes. There are not seven. In chapter 6, Isaiah will say, "Woe is me," while Christ mentioned seven woes in Matthew 23. But He did not say, "Woe is me," but rather, "You will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'" Who is he who comes in the name of the Lord? Christ. What does Christ have to do with woe, condemnation, or curse? Far be it! Blessed is He who will turn blessing to the person, and even to the whole world. The first woe is not just greed, but self-centeredness. The idea of saying, "I will do as I please." So you are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land. You see no one else, no one else in the scene but yourself. And self-centeredness was the basis for many problems throughout history. The second woe in verse 11: "Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink, who continue until the evening, till wine inflames them!" Meaning they get drunk at night and during the day. The Apostle Peter said, "They consider day-time revelry a pleasure." But these people do not miss any opportunity to indulge in sensual pleasures, day or night. And these are the wild grapes they produced, as we said, they are not different at all from other peoples. That is, if other peoples who do not know God do this, then what is different about you? Christ, in the Sermon on the Mount, said, "What more are you doing than others? Do not even the tax collectors and the Gentiles do the same?" This indicates that the Lord wants us to be different, superior, and of course, not by our own strength, but by the strength of the Lord. In verse 12, it says, "And the lyre and the harp, the tambourine and the flute, and wine are at their feasts, and they do not regard the work of the Lord, nor consider the operation of His hands." They seek everything that satisfies the flesh and everything that pleases the soul. What about the need of the spirit? What about the need of the spirit that only the Lord can provide? No, that does not concern them. That is not in their calculations. "Therefore, my people are exiled for lack of knowledge." And they do not say, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." And the truth is, delusion and ignorance of God's word and not listening to God's voice is what causes the people to be in exile and leads to destruction. As a result, all classes of people will reap in this punishment. The punishment will not be limited only to the common people, but to everyone. That is why it says to us in verse 13, "Their honorable men are famished, and their multitude is parched with thirst." So the judgment will encompass everyone.
