Hey everyone, it's Ashley Bor nanson for the Red Carpet Report. We're here in Beverly Hills at the Paley Center for Media, talking to the cast of USA Suits for the mid-season premiere.
Good. I'm Megan, but I play Rael. I'm sorry guys, I'm I'm going to mix that up. No, it's fine. Do you know my first name in real life is Rachel? Really? I've never been called it, but my parents named me Rachel Megan Markle, and it's just confused every legal document for my entire life. And now, of course, the show is even more confusing with that.
In exactly. So you actually called me by my chosen name. Perfect. I really knew that me and your parents. She's on to something. This one. Okay, we're with Megan Zayn, who plays Rachel on Suits. Megan Mar. Oh my go. Rachel Z. Fxing all this up. This is the worst interview ever. It's not, it's great. Just kidding.
Okay, so first of all, yes, your character, literally everywhere. Return seems like she's getting beat up by Mike emotionally. Tell me about that. I know, it is so hard to read the scripts and go, like, really? Um, her threshold for patience and tolerance of Mike Ross is high, but I think as women, we relate to what it's like when you really have feelings for someone, you put up with a lot more, I think. And so watching that struggle for her, for me, is really exciting because I think it humanizes her, and that's what makes her interesting. Like, if she was just so perfect and didn't care, what's the excit, what's interesting about that? It's watching her be vulnerable. It's watching her heart melt a little bit. And in these back six episodes, what's really fun is to see that maybe he gets his act together or not, but at least that it always feels like it's edging a little bit closer. So it feels, it feels good for me to read and see that for Rachel.
And in these next six episodes, you're not giving up on him, right? Relentless. You know, and it's so funny because I'm like, what happened to the girl in The Pilot who was just like, so sassy and had no interest? Well, you know, they connected. And so I think especially because Rachel go through goes through a lot in these back six episodes regarding trying to be a lawyer, stuff going on with her family, it makes her even more vulnerable. So it makes her heart even more open to heartbreak.
Yeah. Um, tell me more. We're going to learn more about your family these next couple episodes. Tell me more about what's going to be revealed. Do you see who's next to me? The creator of our show is right next to me. If I talk about what's going to be revealed, I won't be in season 3. Okay. But we're, we're learning a little bit more about the, the onion peel, the onion layers of your character involving your dad and everything. And it was a slow burn, right? Because I think at the onset, you really see Rachel in a sort of cookie cutter way. Maybe you start to learn that she likes food or she likes fashion or little elements of her personality. When she has that scene with Donna at the bar drinking, you get to see who she really is. But these back six are peeling off layers in a different way to understand not just where she comes from, but definitely like why she is the way she is. Um, and I think it makes her a lot more relatable, and I think it makes her a lot more likable. So yeah, the family stuff is great. It's, um, life isn't as easy as it seemed for Rachel. Let's just say that.
And I read that you were never originally going to go into acting. No, right? I was going to do politics. So it's incredible that someone like that just, you know, you're already on a show that blew up. What does it feel like to have that opportunity? It's amazing. You know, I grew up in LA, so I grew up in this industry and obviously loved, um, entertainment. My father's a lighting director. I just always want to do something different, and working in politics was exciting for me. I was saying as we were driving up, two blocks down the street is Paper Source. I used to teach gift wrapping classes there. I used to teach calligraphy classes there. And so to be here tonight and to see that contrast and what happened in my life from like an auditioning actress just trying to make it work to pilot after pilot to have one that's going into a third season with fans that are so supportive or not, I mean, I couldn't be more grateful. It's really amazing.
