PHIVOLCS has been monitoring the live video stream of Mount Mayon all night here at headquarters. And in the past 24 hours alone, more than 130 rockfall events have been recorded. These are rocks falling from the upper part of the volcano due to the effect of increased lava. We have lava dome growth, uh, while this is uh thick and viscous lava on top of the volcano, and it's accumulating there. So it's growing, meaning there's an increase in lava. According to PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol, the increase in rockfall events in the volcano started being monitored in November. In 2023, Mayon Volcano was last raised to alert level 3 and it took six months before it was lowered to alert level 2. The signs shown by Mayon Volcano are said to be similar to what happened then.
