The data is recorded. The history is real. The laws were written in the documents revealed. Black Americans were excluded from economic ground. Read [music] the record. Understand what has been found. The history [music] is written down. The facts [music] are documented clear. Read the law. Know the gap. Understand what [music] you face. The numbers prove the system and the policies in place.
[singing] In 1865, the 13th [music] Amendment ended slavery under law. But no economic [music] foundation was established after the Civil War. There were no reparations distributed after emancipation was declared. No land, no capital, [music] no starting point, no resources were shared.
In 1921, Black Wall Street was operating in [music] Tulsa, Oklahoma. Black residents owned banks, hotels, hospitals, [music] law offices, and schools in that area. On June 1, 1921, the district was destroyed by a white mob [music] using ground forces and aircraft. 300 black residents were killed and 10,000 [music] were displaced in that attack.
Today, the racial wealth gap is measured annually by the Federal Reserve Bank. The median white [music] family net worth stands at $171,000 [singing] in the data bank. The median black [music] family net worth is $20,000 [singing] in that exact same survey. Yeah. The gap is the direct [music] result of redlining, discriminatory lending, and exclusion across every decade and tier.
Black Americans spend $1.6 [music] trillion in the United States economy every year. A black dollar remains in [music and singing] the black community for 6 hours before it disappears. A Jewish dollar circulates within the Jewish community for 17 [music] to 20 days. An Asian dollar circulates within the Asian community [music] 28 days. The difference is not income level. The difference is organized >> [music] >> and intentional economic behavior in practice.
Break up. Black Americans, [music] the history is written down. >> Debts were paid for, but lives lost in every town. >> Break up. Black Americans. The facts [music] are documented clear. >> Know your economic power and what has been taken here.
Black children are suspended from school at three times the rate of white [music] children nationally. The school-to-prison pipeline is a documented pattern tracked by the Department of Education. Statistically, >> [music] >> 23.5 million Americans live in food deserts without access to fresh grocery stores. Black communities are disproportionately [music] located inside those boundaries according to federal reports and scores.
Black women die during childbirth [music] at three times the rate of white women in America [singing] today. That maternal [music] mortality statistic is published by the CDC and confirmed by in every survey. [music] 40% of black adults in the United States currently have high blood pressure. Heart [music] disease is 50% black communities than in white communities under The Voting Rights Act was signed into law on [music and singing] August 6, 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The Montgomery March and the beating of protesters on the Edmund Pettus Bridge [music] on March 7th in that season. Local elections in America control [music] police departments and district attorney offices. >> [music] >> Despite those offices having the most direct influence >> [screaming] [music] >> how long >> [music] >> is that economic organization.
>> [music] >> Frederick Douglass taught himself to read when literacy for enslaved people was illegal >> [music] >> and punishable by law. Harriet Tubman returned 19 times into Confederate territory [singing] and freed over 300 people [music] before the war. Wells documented lynching in America when every major [music] newspaper refused to publish the truth. Thurgood Marshall argued [music] before the United States Supreme Court and won Brown versus Board of Education in >> [music] >> These people did not you have today of an entire nation. [music] The data [music] is published Black [singing] Americans of the United [music] States through 200 >> [music] >> labor.
The reconstruction era was ended by organized political violence [music] between 1877 and the early 20th century. Less than 3% of American [music] businesses are black-owned today. 44% of black Americans [music] own their homes compared to 73% of white [music] Americans. The blueprint worked. We building exists. Black Wall Street >> [music] >> proved it worked. It was destroyed because [singing] it worked. Read the history. Study the data. [music] Load it up. Wake up. The GI Bill of 1944 offered returning soldiers education, housing loans, and economic benefits. >> [music] >> Black veterans who served in World War II were systematically denied access to those same [music] benefits. Banks refused to process their loans and universities [music] refused to admit their applications. Over 1 million black veterans [music] were excluded from the single greatest wealth-building program in American history.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation [music] ran a program called COINTELPRO from 1956 through [music] 1971. Its documented purpose was to surveil, infiltrate, discredit, and neutralize black political organizations. [music] The FBI targeted the NAACP, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the Black Panther Party directly. [music] Marcus Garvey built the largest black mass movement in history and was prosecuted [music and singing] and deported by the federal government in 1927. [music] In 1971, John Ehrlichman, President Nixon's domestic policy adviser, admitted on record that the war on drugs was designed [music] to target black communities and and anti-war protesters. That admission is documented in a 2016 [music] published interview in Harper's Magazine.
Today, one in three [music] black men in America will be incarcerated at some point in their lifetime. [music] The United States incarcerates more people than any country on Earth, and black Americans represent 40% of that prison population [music] while being 13% of the total population. >> [music] [music] >> From 1932 to 1972, the United [music] States Public Health Service conducted the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. 400 black men with [music] syphilis were deliberately left untreated to study disease progression without their knowledge or consent.
Henrietta [music] Lacks was a black woman whose cancer cells were taken in 1951 without her consent at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her cells, known [music] as HeLa cells, became one of the most important tools in medical research and generated billions in commercial revenue. [music] Her family received no compensation and was not informed for over 20 years. Black inventors, [music] including Granville Woods, Lewis Latimer, and Garrett Morgan, made foundational [music] contributions to American technology. Many of their patents were contested, bought out, [music] or credited to white counterparts in the historical record.
Today, 60% [music] of black Americans who need mental health support do not access it due to cost The stigma and lack of black practitioners. >> Yeah. Less than 2% of venture capital funding in America >> [music] >> goes to black founders annually. Black women receive .06% [music] of all venture capital distributed in the United States.
There are over 45 million [music] black Americans in this country. If each redirected $100 [music] monthly in the black-owned institutions, that capital [music] would total $54 billion annually. >> [music] >> The infrastructure to rebuild exists within the population itself. >> [music and singing] >> The Tuskegee study ran for 40 years. COINTELPRO >> [music] >> ran for 15 years. The GI Bill exclusion lasted a generation. None of this [music] was accidental. All of it is public record. The prison [music] population did not grow by itself. Did not form by itself. Did not arrive by itself.
