Hello, this is Dr. Grande. Today I will offer an update on the case of Charlie Kirk. I'll look at a brief background of this case because I just covered it. Then I'll offer an updated timeline of the crime and an updated analysis.
Charlie Kirk was a conservative political activist and social media influencer. He vigorously supported Donald Trump and had many controversial views. Some people described Charlie as divisive while others viewed him as promoting an open dialogue about challenging issues. He often debated students during events at college campuses. He even founded an organization called Turning Point USA which promoted conservative ideals to college students.
Now moving to the timeline of the crime. On September 10, 2025, as the first stop in his American comeback tour, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University in Oram, Utah. Some students at the university circulated a petition to prevent his appearance, looking to deny Charlie his right to free speech. Ultimately, they were unsuccessful, and the event moved forward as planned. With 3,000 people in attendance and minimal security, Charlie sat under a tent and had discussions with various members of the audience. At about 12:22 p.m., after talking with an audience member about transgender mass shooters, Charlie Kirk was struck in the neck by a bullet. He jerked backward and blood poured from his neck. Charlie was mortally wounded. He would later be pronounced dead.
A gunman had fired the fatal shot from the university's low center 425 ft away. Video surveillance captured the shooter running across the rooftop of this building, jumping to the ground and running away. Investigators learned that a gunman arrived at the building at about 11:52 a.m. The authorities released images of the alleged assassin. He was wearing sunglasses, a black hat, and a black shirt. In a wooded area not far from the Losi center, the police found a Mouser 98 bolt-action rifle chambered in 30 odd 6. The weapon was wrapped in a towel. A few inscriptions were found on the ammunition. These messages were described in an ATF bulletin as consistent with transgender and anti-fascist ideologies. Now that the exact content of the inscriptions has been released, it's not exactly clear what the transgender component is. I'll talk more about that in my analysis.
Late on September 11, 2025, the day after the shooting, a 22-year-old Washington, Utah resident named Tyler James Robinson allegedly admitted to his father that he had killed Charlie Kirk. This happened after his father recognized him from images released by the FBI. Tyler indicated that he would rather bring an end to his own life than turn himself in. His father convinced him to speak to a friend who worked for the US Marshall Service. Tyler was arrested at about 11 p.m. on charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice.
The authorities said that they examined video surveillance that captured a man in a Grey Dodge Challenger drive onto the Utah Valley University campus at 8:29 a.m. on the day of Charlie's murder. The clothing the driver was wearing matched the clothing that Tyler was wearing at the time of his arrest. And Tyler drove a gray Dodge Challenger. The authorities believe that Tyler climbed onto the roof of the Losi Center, changed his clothing, shot Charlie Kirk, fled the area, then changed back into his original clothing. The police spoke to a roommate of Tyler who told them that Tyler posted a joke on Discord. The messages containing this joke were examined. Tyler discussed retrieving a rifle, wrapping it in a towel, hiding it in a bush, and monitoring the area where the rifle was hidden. At the time I'm making this video, Tyler Robinson is working his way through the criminal justice system. The authorities indicated that he worked alone in the murder of Charlie Kirk and he may face the death penalty if convicted.
Now, moving to my analysis, here are my thoughts on a few areas that stood out to me in this case.
Item number one. At this point, not much is known about Tyler Robinson, but here's the information that is currently available. Tyler was born on April 16, 2003, and lived in Washington, Utah with his father, Matt, his mother, Amber, and two younger brothers. They lived in a six-bedroom, 3200 ft house valued at $630,000. Tyler's father, Matt, is a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Tyler was never a student at Utah Valley University, where the shooting occurred, but he did attend Utah State University in 20121 for one semester. He had been awarded a 4-year scholarship to that school. Family and friends of Tyler noticed that he had become more political lately. At a recent dinner, he mentioned that Charlie Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University. He explained why he didn't like Charlie. Tyler was described as full of hate and spreading hate.
Item number two. Based on an ATF bulletin, the Wall Street Journal reported that the inscriptions made on the ammunition found in the Mouser 98 were consistent with transgender and anti-fascist ideologies. Let's take a look at the content of these inscriptions and see if this was an accurate assessment by the ATF. The first inscription reads, "Notices bulges ow. What's this?" This is a meme from the online furry and anime communities. Furries are people who have an interest in animals with humanlike traits. Some of them dress up in animal costumes. A small subset of furries combine this behavior with sexual activity, which has garnered them a disproportionate level of media attention. Most furries do not fall into this category. The notices bulges meme indicates exaggerated surprise in a sexualized tone, like someone being taken off guard after seeing a bulge caused by male genitalia. It is often used to troll furries and transgender people online. Arguably, this meme can be connected to the transgender community through this mechanism, but there's nothing about it that shows an alignment with the transgender ideology. It's not what a transgender person would leave behind to reveal their political beliefs. The second inscription reads, "Hey, fascist catch." This one seems pretty clear. This aligns with anti-fascist rhetoric, suggesting the shooter believed that Charlie Kirk was a fascist and that he should catch the projectile. The third inscription is also clear. It reads, "Oh, Bella Chow, Bellachow, Bella Chow, Chow Chow." This refers to an Italian folk song promoted by anti-fascist resistance fighters during World War II. It has become an anthem of some members of the left and the extreme left. The fourth inscription reads, "If you read this, you are gay. L M AO." This is essentially a juvenile taunt, perhaps meant as a crude joke. It does not appear to be connected to the transgender ideology. This inscription is consistent with being immature and offensive rather than being a political statement.
Based on these inscriptions, which I presume represent all the inscriptions found on the ammunition, it's not clear what the transgender component is supposed to be. The notices bulges meme is used in reference to the transgender ideology, but not as a way of promoting it, rather as a way of mocking it. What was the ATF referring to? It's possible they misinterpreted the notices bulges meme and connected that with Charlie Kirk's opposition to the transgender ideology. It made sense to them that whoever killed him may have adopted this ideology. A one minute internet search could have cleared this up for them. Although some of these memes can be difficult to understand at first glance, they are used inconsistently and their meanings can change somewhat over time. Tyler Robinson, if he is in fact guilty, may have been motivated by Charlie's opposition to the transgender ideology. But in my opinion, there's nothing supporting that theory from the ammunition inscriptions which have been released. The ATF would have been better off simply revealing the exact content of the inscriptions rather than offering their interpretation.
Item number three. If the inscriptions on the ammunition accurately revealed Tyler's intent, then one could argue that his belief that Charlie Kirk was a fascist was a motivating factor in the murder. It's not clear if it's really that simple because Charlie maintained a number of controversial positions, any one of which could have aggravated Tyler. Here are just a few of them. Charlie was opposed to the LGBT community. He was a supporter of Donald Trump and helped him to get elected president. Charlie spread misinformation about CO and the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine. He falsely claimed that fraud cost Donald Trump the 2020 presidential election. Charlie wanted to end the separation of church and state, saying, "You cannot have liberty if you do not have a Christian population." He promoted the great replacement theory. And he described Martin Luther King Jr. as an awful person. There's no question that Charlie had strong opinions that rubbed many people the wrong way. Tyler could have latched on to one or more of these opinions to construct his homicidal motive.
In my first video about this case, I explored the theory that the gunman, who had not yet been identified, was motivated by Charlie Kirk's opposition to the transgender ideology. After the ammunition inscriptions were released, I think it's much more likely he was motivated by Charlie's alleged connection to fascism. Tyler made a reference that could be connected to the transgender ideology, but it was far from definitive. His references to fascism, however, were clearly stated. This case is in the early stages as far as the investigation. So, who knows what might come up, but at this point, it does not look like the ATF correctly interpreted the inscriptions.
Item number four. What do I think happened in this case? This is just a theory. My opinion, Tyler Robinson may have been motivated by his belief that Charlie Kirk was a fascist. This belief may have been based on Charlie's statements and the fact that many on the extreme left refer to conservatives as fascists. Tyler grew angry at Charlie and came to believe that something had to be done about the freedom of speech. He decided to kill Charlie in order to silence him. Tyler had stumbled upon a way to express his own narcissism. He wanted to be regarded as a hero despite not having accomplished anything meaningful in his life. In his mind, if he could kill Charlie, Tyler could save the world from fascism, a concept he probably did not understand at all. He was simply taking the word of the extreme left without having any idea what they were referring to. Tyler was gullible and impressionable, latching on to the hate of the extreme left. Tyler added some more of his own and carried out the assassination.
In my original video on this topic, I talked about how unusual it was for the killer to leave his rifle behind. If he was going to abandon it anyway, why not just leave it on the roof? The Discord messages allegedly sent by Tyler add clarity on this issue. Apparently, he believed his rifle would not be recovered by the police. Tyler intended to retrieve it later. He really had no understanding of the scope of this investigation.
Now, moving to my final thoughts. There has been a lot of concern over how some people on the far left have been celebrating Charlie's death. They argued that he deserved to be murdered because he promoted values they found offensive. Essentially, this group is saying that political violence can be used to save democracy, which of course is not true. They believe it will change the political landscape because there will be no opposing opinions expressed. These extremists claim to be anti-fascist. Yet, it is the far-left who wants to destroy democracy. A society where people can be killed based on how they use their freedom of speech cannot function or thrive. Under that system, who gets to decide the criteria for execution? Only the extreme left or does everyone have a vote? Those who celebrate Charlie's death are really advocating for a civil war, a descent into a free-for-all to see who can kill more people, where ideology is enforced with bullets instead of conversations. This type of political violence reveals the narcissism of the far left, which to be fair exists on the far right as well. At the extremes of the political spectrum, people do not want to debate. Rather, their desire is to win at any cost. They justify murder by claiming their targets are going to destroy the world when in reality it is the extremists who pose the greatest threat. Through Charlie's death, he was able to point directly at those who pose the greatest risk to freedom.
