Hello, all right. So, it's hot out. It's sticky. This is as good as we're gonna get today. Oh, I don't know how I'm starting this video. I should probably figure that out. Hi, I'm Princess Kelly. This is Spanking University, and this is the top 10 tips for new spanko bottoms.

[Music] [Applause] [Music]

This one was requested from one of my patrons on Patreon. If you would like to get your own video request or have your topic covered on this channel, feel free to join us over on Patreon, and you can make a suggestion, and maybe yours will turn into a video. So, this request was from a new spanglebottom who wanted my top 10 tips for new bottoms coming into play, coming into the scene, trying to meet play partners for the first time. And I thought, that's a really good idea. So, that's exactly what this is.

All right, so these 10 tips are not in any particular order, necessarily. They're not in a ranked order. They might be in sort of the order that you might come across them, potentially. Um, but I, saying all that, I might say that this first one is the most important. Beware NRE. So, you'll hear this term NRE floated around the community sometimes, and it stands for New Relationship Energy. And basically, what it's talking about is that feeling when you're in a new relationship. And some people call it like the honeymoon phase, and everything is just so much all the time. You just have all of the feelings and all of the excitement, and it's just really intoxicating and exciting. This happens to vanilla people too, by the way. This is just a general thing that happens. You'll find that kind of that fades over time, and some people think that that means that they're not as into their partner as they once were. And it's like, it might be. It might also just be that you're no longer chock full of hormones and endorphins that are making you really excited about this person.

So, the reason I bring this up is that in the spanking world, in particular, I think that this can be a really dangerous experience for new bottoms, in particular, because not only are you experiencing the natural, normal New Relationship Energy whenever you play with someone for the first time or start dating someone for the first time, but when you're a new spankle bottom, it is so overwhelming the feeling when it first happens. That, "Oh my god, this is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I am never going to feel this way again. This person that has done this is the only person that will ever make me feel this way. I have to hold on to this. This is everything. And my entire being." And you get the point. So, that feeling is super normal and super valid, but also a lie. So, when you first start playing with new play partners, you might find that even if, like, looking back, they weren't the greatest, like, you didn't actually have the greatest scene, or they weren't technically most proficient, or they weren't the best fit for you, that those memories and that experience will feel so strong and heightened because it's your first or your second. I'm not a big fan of focusing on firsts and the idea of like virginity and the first one being the important one. I think that's kind of nonsense. I mean, the first one's important, but the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth, all of those new experiences are just gonna feel so intense. And it's really easy to kind of fall into the trap of, "I must date this person. I must be with this person. I must stay with this person because they are the only one who is ever going to make me feel this way." I fell into this trap a thousand, a thousand percent. Every new partner that I would get, it would be better than the last, and I would think, "Oh my god, this is the greatest thing ever. This is all that there is. I'm, I must be with this person." And it just, you get wrapped up in it. And it's so easy to fall into it. It might be that they're a really good fit for you, and it's a really good person, and you should keep playing with that person and stay with that person. But it's also possible that you're just really excited because you're finally get getting to experience this important part of yourself. So, just keep it in mind that when you're having any new relationship, you're going to have a lot of really heightened feelings and emotions at the beginning. And when those fade, that's not necessarily a sign that the relationship is fading. And also that when you're doing play for the first time, or when you're first starting out, everything's gonna feel so much and so exciting. New plate partners will always feel exciting. And that feeling that this is the only person that will ever make you feel that way is a giant lie.

Number two. So, this one is common sense because it is literally, use best practices and common sense when meeting new play partners. So, a lot of this is probably advice that you've heard, but just in case you haven't, I'm going to tell it to you. Imagine me as your one friend that is like, "I'm really concerned about you meeting someone from the internet." I've always kind of thought, like, if I just met a stranger at a bar, wouldn't that be as dangerous as meeting a stranger from the internet? But at the same time, meeting a stranger off the internet to have them spank you, you know, definitely make sure you're chatting beforehand. I assume that if you're meeting someone, it's because you've been talking to them online, and so you have a sense of who they are. But definitely make sure you do that. Ideally, if you can get them on a video chat, some sort of Zoom or Skype call. I mean, in the pandemic, haven't we all done enough Zoom calls? But at least get them on the phone and hear their voice. Make sure they are who they say they are. Basically, best practice is usually to meet in a public space. You go somewhere where there's lots of other people. You get to just talk and chat, see each other. And if one of you doesn't like it, doesn't feel like it's fitting, doesn't feel like it's working, you can leave. If you like the person after chatting with them for half an hour or something, you can go and go play, go play privately somewhere. But I would not recommend going to someone's house for the first time meeting them, or having them come to your house, or even meeting at a hotel. I say these things, I did, I did bad things. I did very dumb things. One thing I did always do, that you always should do, is tell someone where you're going. Even if it's a vanilla friend that you don't want to say why you're going there or what you're doing there. Even better is if you can have a check-in call. So, someone that is going to call you at a certain time, and you have to pick up. And if you don't pick up, then they will be concerned. Um, and then maybe they try a few more times, and if you continue to not pick up, that they would come get you or call authorities or something of that nature. Even if it's someone across the country or across the world, they would still be able to get you help if, for some reason, you are needing help. Another thing you can do if you're meeting people online is get references. So, I think this is really useful. It's something that we do in the pro dom community a lot, actually, is get references for people. And I think everyone should kind of do it more. If somebody has played with other partners that you know, or that they would be willing to let you message to say, like, "Hey, is this person legit? Did you actually play with this person? Are you real?" Lastly, take it slowly. You know, you don't have to play with someone the first time you meet them. You can. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. But at the same time, like, you can almost always see that person again. So, maybe just plan to meet for coffee, or plan to meet for lunch only. And then make a plan afterwards, once you've had a time to kind of think about it and decide, "Is this someone I want to play with? Is this someone I feel safe with?"

Number three. Tops are not perfect. Don't ask them to be or expect them to be. So, this one's, I think, a hard lesson to learn and a hard thing to learn. But the earlier you can come to terms with it, the better off you're gonna be. I think as bottoms, a lot of times we are desperate for the top to have all the answers, and we're desperate for them to almost be magical. You know, especially if you're someone who reads a lot of stories, if you're someone who's kind of grown up and come to terms with your spanking fetish, reading fan fiction, or reading domestic discipline stories, or romance, spanking romance novels, sometimes you'll have this vision of what a top should be or is, that isn't really in keeping with reality. The idea that the top will always know when you've done something wrong, that they'll always be able to sense it, or that they will never make a mistake, or that they'll never hurt you or upset you. They're people with fallibilities and their own desires and their own fears and their own concerns. And it's important to remember that. I think this comes up a lot with like, Daddy and Mommy type age play roles, a lot as well. This idea that that person is your hero, that they can do nothing wrong. And while it's a great fantasy, it's not true. They can do something wrong. And being willing to kind of forgive them those sorts of humanity moments, I think, is really important. Um, this also comes up a lot with discipline relationships. And I think I've seen a lot of long-distance discipline dynamics with new people fall at this hurdle of this idea that they, the top, can't know what you do all the time because they're literally not there. And so if you expect them to somehow just magically know that you didn't follow one of the rules, you're probably going to be disappointed. And so a lot of new bottoms, orange bottoms in general, uh, I find, will kind of like test the top. They'll break a rule and see if they notice. And sometimes they will, but sometimes maybe they've had a hard day at work, or they're thinking about something else, or they just assume that you're following the rules and they don't check. And bottoms will kind of ascribe this failure to check or to notice as a sign that the top doesn't care about them or doesn't love them. And that's just not true. So, you have to be willing to communicate, willing to put something in, and willing to meet them there. Tops are people. They're not perfect. They're just trying their best. You should expect good things from your top. You should expect respect, loyalty, kindness, compassion, safe play practices. All of those things are absolutely essential and reasonable to expect of your partner, in the way that it's reasonable to expect it of any other person. But just remember, tops aren't mind readers. Tops aren't magically infallible. Just because they're the person dishing out the discipline doesn't mean that they aren't gonna also sometimes be in need of discipline themselves, or could benefit from some discipline themselves. And being aware of that, I think, helps tops too.

Okay, number four is one that I think I'm most adamant about at this juncture. I've been really into this advice lately, which is to make and value platonic kink friendships. Basically, try to meet some people in the spanking community, some fellow spankos, some fellow kinksters that you don't want to play with, or where your primary reason for talking to them is not play. I think this, especially at the beginning, um, is a bit of a foreign idea and foreign concept. I know the first three or four years that I was playing with people, I never met anyone or talked to anybody really that wasn't a potential play partner. I mean, I could go on and on about the reasons that that's not a great idea, but instead, I'm going to talk about the four reasons that you should value platonic spank of friendship. I think it's really important for helping you develop a sense of self, especially if you're somebody who's not able to be out to any of your vanilla friends. It's really important that you have a friendship with somebody who knows this part of you, who knows this side of you, who values this part of you, as well as the rest of you, basically sees you as a whole person. Otherwise, I think also, it can be really difficult when you're in a relationship with a spanko and if that relationship ends, to feel like your whole life is ending because they are the only person that knows this about you. And so if they are gone, then this whole part of you is gone. So, having a friendship, a platonic relationship that nourishes this side of you, that doesn't exclude it, will help you kind of come to terms with who you are as a person. The next two are actually kind of on the same vein as that. The first one is that it also, I think, helps normalize spankos and kinksters as just being people. We're all just normal people too. As a, a friend of mine and Jillian's famously said, you know, it's just like normal people. Some are great, some are average. And so having those platonic relationships helps reinforce that understanding that we're just humans too. And kind of on that same vein, the third point is that if you're somebody who's really struggling with your kink and your own kink identity, I'm very lucky that this isn't something I struggled with. I never, I know that I'm very fortunate that I never really went through the experience of self-loathing, loathing about my kink. I went through plenty, plenty of other, plenty of other self-loathing experiences, but I never felt bad about being a spanko. There have been times when I felt down about it, times when I felt, you know, kind of cursed by it, times when I was frustrated about it, but I never felt like a freak, and I never felt like I was bad or wrong. But I realize that that is not the typical experience for spankos. And I think, honestly, the best way that I have found for people to come out of that is to have more relationships with spankos that aren't about play, that aren't about what you can give to that other person, that aren't transactional, um, in part because you will then come to love and value these other people who are also spankos, just like you. And I think it becomes a little bit harder to hate yourself or hate this part of you that you then see in other people that you care about. What would you say to your friend if they said that they thought that they were a bad person because of how they felt about this? You'd say, "That's silly. You're not a bad person. I know you, and I love you." And so maybe someday, that, that's something that you could say about yourself. And then lastly, uh, the reason that I advocate for platonic sphanko relationships is possibly the one that's most compelling, though it should be the least compelling, which is that platonix bingo friendships are a really, really good way to meet people and to meet the one. I've been going to spanking parties for a decade, but the way I actually met the person that I ended up with was through mutual friends. Like, it's the most vanilla [ __ ] ever. It's really hard to meet people. Vanillas have this problem too. It's hard to find the person that's the right fit for you. And friends are often the people that are best suited and best positioned to introduce you to somebody new. Making friends as an adult is hard. The spanking community is kind of a built-in way to make friends. And you can, even if you're not using it to make spanking connections, you can just use it to make connections and to meet people and get to know people and have that sort of social interaction, especially since we haven't been able to have events lately. Normally, I would say that going to events is the thing to do. But in reality, the reason that I value events is because of these relationships that develop. At the moment, 90% of all of my friends, my bridesmaids, the people that are coming to my wedding, the people that I introduce to my family, the people that I call when I want to talk about something that has absolutely nothing to do with spanking, are spankos. Basically, opening up your spanko world, I, I could not recommend it more highly. I realized I waffled on about that one for a very long time, but it's important.

Number five. Be your own advocate. I think a lot of times in the community and in the spanking scene, we see bottoms just as passive, not even actors, just passive people to whom tops do something. I mean, that's kind of true in some ways, but that doesn't mean that as a person, you have to be a passive actor. And I think that part of how we get into a lot of trouble with consent issues and issues of manipulation and people ending up in toxic and unhealthy environments is when we say that the top should be guiding everything, the top should be the one who has all the answers, the top should be the one who knows. Not only does that also not allow for like the concept of a new top, like tops are also new sometimes, and tops also have to learn things. And if we just expect them constantly to know everything, we're never letting new tops come, or we're pressuring them to pretend that they know everything, which is the worst. Figure out what it is that you want. Learn what you like, what you don't like, what implements you like, what implements you don't like, positions, scenes, role plays. Learn your limits. Figure out what it is that brings you joy and what doesn't. And then be willing to articulate those things. Learn how to stand up for yourself, how to, when you're in a negotiation, say, "This is the thing I want to do," or to say, "This is the thing I don't want to do." Tops are going to naturally want to lead a discussion, lead a negotiation, lead a scene, and that's good. We want them to. But at the same time, you want to be led, not pulled. If you know that you don't want to do something, you don't have to do it. That top isn't advocating necessarily for you if they don't know you. You have to advocate for you. You are the only person that can know how you're feeling at any given time. You are the only person that can know what you want and what you don't want. And it is your job and your responsibility to advocate for yourself. So, I recommend practice early. As soon as you start playing, pay attention to those things you like and don't like, and start trying to articulate them, trying to say what it is that you do and don't want to do, the things that you aren't willing to do, that you aren't willing to compromise on. Be willing to speak up.

All right, number six could probably be its own video, but we're sticking it in here, which is beware the red flags. There are some shitty people out there, and there are also people that maybe just aren't a right fit for you. And there are tops out there who are looking to take advantage of people, particularly new bottoms. New bottoms are often targeted specifically by predators. So, if you put out and say that you're new to spanking, and you're new to all this, and you're looking to meet people, there are certain tops that are going to say, "That's what I want," because they think that person isn't going to know how to speak up for themselves, that person isn't going to know what their limits are, that person is going to be easy to manipulate, easy to groom, easy to get to do what I want. Don't let yourself be that victim. Here are some red flags to look out for to make sure that you don't end up with someone like that. Red flag number one, I would say, is literally, "Does this person only ever play with newbies?" If you meet somebody who you notice, "Huh, everyone that they've ever played with seems to be brand new, and then they never play with them after that," or "Everyone they play with is 18, and then they never play with anybody their own age." Those sorts of things can be a pretty good sign that this person wants to push at boundaries, wants to play with people who aren't as willing to stand up for themselves. That might not be what you're looking for. Another would be tops that say you're not allowed to use a safe word. I made a whole video on this. Go watch the safewords video. It's important. But I think a top that says, "You are not allowed to use a safe word," or says that you will eat, they will leave you, any of that [ __ ] no. Red flag. Alarm bells. Alarm bells should just be going off, blaring in your head. All that they are saying when they say that is that they do not think that you have the right to consent to what is happening to you. Is that really what you want? Probably not. Another red flag would be tops that use the phrase "topping from the bottom." I hate this phrase so much. And I will admit, part of that is because I've been accused of topping from the bottom many times. Mostly though, when I was younger. I noticed that, um, people have stopped saying that to me as I've gotten older and more assertive. But they said it a lot to me when I was young and a little bit more pliable, when I was newer, when they thought that they could pressure me into doing something else. I should go back a bit. "Topping from the bottom" is what tops will sometimes accuse bottoms of doing if they express how they want something to go. A lot of times, this has to do with play zone. A bottom saying, "You're hitting too high," or "You're hitting too low," or "You hit on my hip," or a bottom saying that they want to use a specific implement. Basically, the bottom articulating their own desires. Usually, it means mid-scene, but it can mean anyway. It's basically a top accusing a bottom of being bossy. I think it's a red flag. I consider it to be basically a form of gaslighting, a form of saying that what has happened, what you think is happening to you, is not actually happening to you. Um, if I would say, like, "That was too high," like, "Stop topping from the bottom," "That wasn't too high." And I'm like, "Um, but I experienced it, and I felt it was, and it's my body, and now you're trying to tell me that what I experienced wasn't real." Any form of gaslighting, any sort of that thing, absolute red flag. Run, run, run, run away. Two more quick red flags. Um, first one, someone who only plays with you when you've been drinking. Um, and the last one is anybody who's pressuring you into being something that you're not. Specifically, I have written down about being poly or being monogamous. Somebody who's saying, "Oh, no, you just don't understand. You just, you'll get it once you like, you'll like it when you try it. You just haven't been doing it right." Those sorts of things. If you know what you want and what you don't want, if somebody is trying to convince you that you don't actually know what you want, there are other people to play with.

Number seven. Recognize that your spanking interests may change and shift with time, and that that is okay. As you spend time engaging with your spanking kink, as you go from having never played, having only played a few times, having played a lot, as you spend years doing this, as you go through, you might find that you don't always like the same scenes, you're not always interested in the same aspects of spanking that maybe you once were. Maybe when you started out, you were all discipline, all the time, only discipline. And then a few years later, you find, "Actually, I really like sensation-based spanking." But I can tell you that, like, when I first started, I was really discipline-focused. That was all I was interested in. And then a bit later, I was really interested in masochism, about pain, about the feelings, about the endorphins, that sort of thing. Then I became quite into power dynamics and submission. And I'm, right now, I'm really in like a humiliation, embarrassment sort of phase. They're all spanking. It's, it's all the same in the sense that it's all spanking, but they're different ideas. When I was younger, and I first started to do any scenes that weren't just discipline, I got really confused and kind of upset. And I kind of thought that I was like betraying my own sense of self, or that I wasn't being genuine, or that I was doing it wrong, or that something was wrong with me. Like, why didn't I like the things that I used to like? And part of that is, don't go hunting to replicate scenes ever. If you've had a magical scene, if you've had something amazing, don't ever try to recreate it. You will never be able to recreate it, and you will just constantly be sad about it. That's just how, like, memory works. You might just not be into the same thing anymore. And letting yourself evolve, letting yourself discover things about yourself, is, is really important. Don't let some top be like, "Oh, you just like, haven't tried it yet, but like, once you do, you're like, this is the greatest thing. Like, just let me do it. Like, let me try it." You like, "Oh, you don't have to try it." But if one day you become curious and you think, "I do want to try that," try it. Why not? You totally can.

Okay, so these last three are on the more serious note, and then I have a bonus one. Um, I've talked extensively about all three of these in writings, I think, um, but they're real important. So, I'm gonna cover them here. And I think especially for new bottoms, I think it's important that you hear somebody say these things to you. Um, and hopefully, it helps coming from somebody who's been in your position. Spanking and discipline are ultimately fantasies. And at the end of the day, you need to be a functioning human. I was a massive domestic discipline fetishist. Like, my core kink is absolutely kind of like a rescue fetish. Very much a, "I can't do anything right. I can't get my life together." And someone comes in, swoops in, spanks me, and then somehow, like, by virtue of this person loving me and disciplining me and the spankings I get, everything's together and everything's great. In reality, what you'll find is that a lot of times, if you're doing something wrong, there's a lot of complex structural reasons why you have bad habits or why you aren't able to do certain things. And spanking isn't probably going to change that. And the way I kind of came to terms with this feeling was the idea that I, I kept wanting someone to rescue me, to fix me. But in order for someone to fix me, I had to be broken. You do not have to be broken in order to have a disciplined fetish, in order to have a spanking fetish, in order to engage with this fantasy. But if you're looking for a top or expecting a top to come in and fix you, you're gonna end up in a lot of really self-destructive places. So, if you're just out there in college thinking, "Uh, I don't want to go to class. I want like, somebody to come tell me I have to go to spank me and tell me I have to go to class." Just [ __ ] get up and go to class. Okay? This is me telling you to go to class. Do your own work. Like, go to work. Be on time. Get a good night's sleep. Drink some water. Like, it is so lovely to have discipline and to have someone like that in your life, if, if that's what you're craving. You need to be a full person first because you can never guarantee that you are gonna find somebody that can do that. And as I said earlier, tops aren't perfect, and tops are humans too, and they're not necessarily going to be able to just like, run your life. So, it's a fantasy. It's an amazing fantasy. It's one we all have, and it's one you can definitely engage in. But you don't have to engage in it as your whole life. You can do it as a role play. You can have the rules that you have to follow be something that won't actually make your life worse if you don't follow them. That is my suggestion. My other suggestion is, if you have always wanted to do domestic discipline, and then you find yourself in a domestic discipline relationship, and you're finding that it's just really not working, let it go. If it is not serving you, you can be a real disciplined fetishist without having to make it your whole life. It is a fantasy. We don't want to think that it's a fantasy because that ruins the fantasy. The fantasy is that it's not a fantasy. Be your own human.

All right, number nine. I think I can say quickly, but, uh, spanking can be therapeutic, but it is not a substitute for therapy. Spanking and kink cannot fix your mental health. Spanking will never, can never fix or stop your ADHD symptoms, ever. Spanking can never make you not depressed. Spanking cannot make you not anxious. Spanking cannot cure your trauma. However, engaging with your fetish, if you've been ignoring it for most of your life, can be incredibly rewarding, incredibly therapeutic, can change your life for the absolute better, can make a lot of your symptoms better because it's possible that a lot of your mental health symptoms were a result of you ignoring this part of yourself or self-loathing that came from your fetish. So, engaging with it in a positive way can absolutely improve your mental health from that capacity. It also releases positive endorphins, which can be incredibly beneficial for depression and anxiety, and can also be beneficial for ADHD. It can be a good guilt release for those sorts of things. It can help you move on past things that you've felt in the past. It can give you closure. It can be incredibly therapeutic, but it's not therapy.

Number 10 is to know what you want in life, even if you don't know what you want in spanking, and to not compromise on it. I realized that a lot of these tips might be hard if you're new and you think, "I don't know what I want. I don't know what I don't want." And also, when you're young, you might not know what you want in life. But there are probably things that you do know. There are your values, your morals, your sense of self, what you want from your life. Do you want to get married? Do you want to have kids? Do you want to live in the town where you are? Are you willing to move? Do you want to be treated a certain way? Do you care about certain things other than spanking? You're a fully-fledged human, and spanking is an important part of you as a human, but it's not the entirety of it. And I find sometimes that new bottoms, if they've been, uh, particularly if they've been in relationships with vanillas, they will find that a little bit from the NRE, but also just from this idea that this part of you has never been nurtured and never been valued, that you tend to overvalue it when you're getting in a new relationship. So, if you're thinking, "Do I want to date this person? Right? Not just like, do I want to play with them? Is this person a play partner? Do I want to go meet them? But like, do I want to have a relationship with this person? Is this person going to be my person?" Um, to remember that, like, vanilla things do matter. So, like, having similar values, having wanting the same things in life. So, you want to get married, and that person doesn't. You want to have kids, and that person doesn't, or vice versa. That's going to be an issue. Or if you find that you have very different value sets, or you have vastly different interests, or you just don't get along outside of scenes. I realize that sounds dumb, but that's basically my experience with 70% of the people that I dated was that I just didn't like them, and I don't think they liked me. Like, we just didn't get along as people, but we had the best spanking. Like, we had the best scenes, the best chemistry. And so you just kept thinking, "Well, like, oh, it's worth it," or "This is the important bit. At least I'm not dating a vanilla." Like, but you don't want to compromise your values, and you don't want to be dating somebody that you don't like. My advice is to remember that if you're trying to find a partner, you're trying to find a partner to live your life with, not just a partner to do spanking with. If you are wanting your partner to be a spanko, and you're thinking, "I want to date spankos," just remember that it matters whether or not you get along. It matters whether or not you value the same things. It matters whether or not they treat you well. It matters whether or not you want the same things out of life. And circling back to the very first advice, that feeling that you have that this is the only person that's ever going to make you feel this way, so you should compromise on all of those other things. Don't compromise on the important [ __ ] because of spanking. Also, don't give up spanking because you think you'll never find somebody and so you should just get rid of it. There's a middle somewhere between, "I'm dating a vanilla," and "I'm dating this spanko that I don't actually like, but I need to have my spanking needs met." Somewhere in the middle, there's somebody into spanking, or somebody willing to be into spanking, somebody who gets you, that is also somebody that you would like to spend your life with. And even when some days it feels like you're never gonna find that person, I can at least promise you that being with the person that you're with shouldn't make you unhappy.

All right, my last tip is a bonus tip. The bonus thing is to have fun. You are a new spanking bottom. You are a new spanko. You are in the most exciting part of this journey. You are getting to be yourself. You are getting to fulfill part of you that you've been maybe keeping locked, hidden, or that you just haven't been able to express yet. And it is awesome. You are gonna have an amazing time. You are going to love it because it's really fun. So, remember that it should be fun. It should be a good time. And it can be, and it will be. Let yourself have that good time. I hope you have a good time, and I hope that you stay safe in the process. And I hope that these 10 tips, which was really just like a slight manifesto, um, were helpful or will be helpful along the way.
