In this video, I'm going to be going through exactly what my remote trading setup is, my travel trading setup. I get asked this question quite a lot, and throughout the summer, I travel quite a lot already this year. I've been away with my family, been away a lot. We go away uh abroad or we go hiking or we go camping or we do whatever. Uh so, I'm going to take you through what my current setup is and then I'm going to show you exactly all the gear that I use, including the bag and all the accessories. And then I'm going to unpack this bag, get it all out for you, and then I'm also going to go away. I'm going away this weekend to Wales, and I'm going to set it all up and show you how it works.
Before I open this bag, I just want to have a little bit of a disclaimer that you absolutely don't need everything I'm going to show you here. This is just my personal preference. I like to have everything, and I've been trading for years and years and years. Uh, and this tends to be what the sweet spot is for me. But you if when I first started trading, I started trading on a 15-inch Lenovo laptop. That's all I had. And then I got a second monitor and that was it. You know, you really can just trade from one laptop. You you definitely don't need the stuff that I'm going to show you, but it's just a luxury. So, let's get stuck in.
Before I get before I open the bag, I'll say that traveling and trading is still one of those things that you can't really explain the feeling of. I remember there was a time in 2013 or 2014 uh when I was sitting in the middle of the Indian Ocean and uh we was placing trades and it paid for the trip and it was the most strange feeling and uh and that feeling never really goes away. Every time I travel and trade there's something that's quite extraordinary about that experience and I highly recommend that you traders out there if you're stuck in your office trading all the time get out and do it. It's It gives trading a whole different meaning.
So, my current bag setup, I'm obsessed with bags, by the way. I've got lots and lots of bags. I've tested loads and loads of different bags. I don't know what it is with me and bags, but I just every time I see a cool bag, I have to buy it, especially with all the different pouches and stuff. Uh, but the current one is the Yeti backpack. And the reason I like this bag is because I don't want to carry a massive bag away with me. I want every I want I want enough room to fit everything I need in and then not have too much space. And this is really uh compact and it opens out really nice as well. Uh obviously got my Yeti water bottle in there as well, which keeps my hydration nice and cool. So that's the Yeti water bottle.
In the top of this bag, you got the usual accessory pouch for cables. That's where I put my adapter. And this cable, this is a lightning cable as well as a USBC to USBC. Sometimes I use this to connect my iPad uh in the hardwired way to my laptop, but I'll explain more about that in a minute. I've got a little memory card there. Um, and that's about it in the top section. Bulk of the bag. What I like is about this bag is you can unzip the top and access it from the top, but you've also got this like I don't know what you call it, like a a scalpel where you can split down the the middle where you can split down the middle and open the bag out.
First thing is just an accessory pack with loads of different uh cables, USB cables. I've got a uh got my USB charging station for various different bits and pieces. Different travel adapters for different countries uh Europe, US, wherever I might be going. And uh different USB cables. This is the Peak Design uh accessory pouch. It's not the cheapest one for an accessory pouch on Amazon or whatever, but this is a good quality one. and it's got good compartments and it it's pretty rugged. Does everything I need. Sometimes I take that, sometimes I don't. A lot of hotels that you go to now have USB uh you know sockets and things like that in them. So, you don't typically need that.
Uh one of the things uh is this which is a pouch. I like to do a lot of my uh work outside or trading outside. And this is basically it can be a laptop bag, but it's basically a pouch uh that you can put your laptop in like this. Uh so that if you like working in the sun like me, you can have uh put your laptop in here and uh and you know you your sun's not on your laptop and you can just be in the sun and have this on your lap or on the table kind of thing. But I'll show you that when it's set up.
The next thing is the MacBook. So, this bag has got two pouches. It's got one for the MacBook, uh, and then it's got another one for my where I keep my iPad. This is another monitor, which I'll talk about in a minute. So, this is a MacBook Pro. Whenever I get this, uh, I have them speced up, um, to the top spec. I just like getting the top spec. They seem to last the longest, be as long, you get the longevity from it. But this is about I don't know four or five grand MacBook Pro. So I moved to Mac a long time ago. I do have a trading PC with six monitors and that that is very very useful for my swing trading setup cuz I monitor 27 pairs. Um and that also explains why I have a second monitor because when I'm away and I'm looking at my swing trading setup sometimes I like to have another monitor so that I can monitor multiple charts. But I use Trading View, the platform Trading View, which I'll link to in the description and in the comments because my broker Trade Nation, which I'll also link to, they integrate with Trade Nation seamlessly, and it's just a perfect setup in my opinion.
So, look, just for the quick demonstration of the Mac, this will go in like this, and then you can work in your MacBook um whilst the sun's beating down. If I put that in the sun there, you can see it's not affecting the MacBook. Uh, and I can just sit here, catch a tan, and uh and and do my trading just like that. So, really really cool uh little little accessory there.
Back to the bag. The iPad I use. This is an iPad um 11 in. And this is the iPad that I use that works seamlessly with the MacBook as a second monitor. Uh I can look at news. I can look at I can look at multiple monitors on here. Um, so I can actually have three monitors with these two put together. A lot of the time I try and slim down and just use the iPad these days, but these AOC monitors, uh, ASUS monitors, sorry, uh have been really, really great. They're seamless. You just plug them in. They just work straight away. Um, and I'll I'll show you this now. So, that's the iPad as a second monitor.
Then I have the ASUS. Now, the ASUS just flips out like this. I've used these for many years. I use these when I used to trade on a PC. Uh I used to have a an IBM Lenovo laptop, which was the first laptop that I ever started trading on, a 15-in. Um and this worked well with that as well. But this one works perfectly with Mac. You just plug it in. It's a brilliant widescreen second monitor. It's anti-glare, which is really important because if you're staring at screens all the time or especially charts, it can tire your eyes. So, I always go for anti-glare screens just the same as my monitors on my trading PC setup. So, that's that. Folds away really nicely. It's probably about 9 mil uh thick. Comes with a really nice case as well. And uh that fits in the in the backpack.
And then what else we got in here? So, we got the cable for the for the uh monitor. This is a USBC to USBC. I just use the one that comes with it. And then another great thing about this backpack, it's got loads and loads of hidden compartments. So, this is my 8 TBTE SanDisk hard drive. I never go anywhere without one of those. They're the most reliable hard drives are the only ones that haven't corrupted on me. Uh I've got an Air Tag, so you know, there's a lot of there's probably five, six, seven, maybe seven grand worth of of gear. You know, it's you want to know where that is if it if you put your bag down. if someone's kind enough to give it back or hand it in. Um, and then obviously a power bank is very handy if I don't have a power. This is my favorite one. I like the Anchor power banks. They seem to be the most reliable. They're really well made. This is like a brick. Um, and it's got this retractable USBC that comes in. You can plug it in and then you can also plug in more USB uh devices into that as well. And it just lasts really well. And the actual handle that you carry it from is also a USB as well. So you can power multiple things from this one. And uh you it's more than you need. You know, it's got this nice little magnetic thing. Packs away really nicely. It's my favorite power bank, this one. And that's the anchor. All the all the links for all the things I'm showing you in this video will be in the description as well.
What else we got? Um just various cables. I think in this one we've got yeah more like USBC to USB C cables and I think that is about it in terms of the bag in terms of the equipment in the bag.
What about the bag itself? Well, you got pockets on the outside. You got a strap for travel bag here. Really nice padded Yeti design for your back support there. You got a little carabiner clip there if you want to clip things on. It also comes with another load of straps that you can strap round through these hoops if you want to tie things on cuz these are basically designed for like hiking and traveling and things like that. Really, really overengineered yet. The Yeti stuff is really overengineered. It's ridiculously expensive. This bag's about 250 quid. So, this is like not a cheap bag at all, but uh Yeti makes some really, really good stuff. So, that's the bag.
So, what we're going to do now is we're going to go in the van. We're going to Free Cliffs Bay and uh I'm going to set all this up in the van, like the the full setup and show you how easy it is to get up and running. So, let's do that.
Right. So, we're going to set it up in the camper van. We've got a nice little space here uh to trade from. So, first thing I do is connect to the Starlink, which is on this van. Fortunately, we've got a Starlink connection on the van. And uh then I'll open Trading View. So, Trading View is my platform of choice. Um and whilst that's loading up, I'm going to open the second monitor. And the second monitor is just going to go uh here. Or we can put it here. But I'm going to just put it here for now. And we're going to use the cable that came with it to put to the laptop. Um, and we'll just turn it on. See, that's already loading on there. And soon as it comes up, there you go. It's the second monitor's ready to go. And the third monitor is the iPad, which I can just put here. And all I do to connect to that is just do it through the um screen mirroring thing that MacBook have or Apple have.
Right. So, now I've got Trading View set up with my Trade Nation broker account logged in. I've got three monitors set up here, as you can see, and we're ready to go. So, this is the default um layout. I use one layout for one chart, but when I'm looking at my swing trading account and things like that, um I like to have multiple charts on different monitors. So, one of the great things you can do with um Trading View is you can select depending on the plan that you're on, you can select different layouts here. Um and for instance, you can choose one that says uh six charts per um per screen or you could have three charts per screen. One of the layouts I like to have is the daily and then the 4hour and the hourly. That's one chart that I use a lot when I'm drilling down and looking particular pairs. But another layout that's good for swing trading is the three and three. So, so this one I really like. And what you can do is you can just drag this over onto this monitor here. So now I've got six charts there and I can keep an eye on those whilst I go back to the original and I can then have another chart on here. All right. And I can also drag this over to this monitor here. So I can have that one on there if I'm looking at that one. And then I can again go to trading view on the the main computer again. And then I can uh do what I like on here. So now I can have my three chart set up here. I can have a one chart set up here. I can have my six monitor set up here. And uh I can keep an eye on all the different markets with these three monitors.
So there you have it. That is my travel setup at the fullest. Um as I said before, you don't need all this. And to be honest with you, my main like my most common setup would just be the laptop. Yeah. Recently I went to Corfu, stayed in a beautiful villa and I just used my laptop. I did take the iPad with me but primarily I was just using my laptop because I was just focusing on swing trading where I'm just checking the charts for 10 minutes each each day and that's it. But at most I'll take the iPad and have that as a second monitor. It works really really well seamlessly. And if you do have network issues or connectivity issues with the wireless like this because you can see this is connected wirelessly. Um, that's why I have that secondary cable because you can then plug it in and connect hardwired and then you don't have to worry about the wireless connect uh dropping out.
So that is it. One thing I would say is if you are learning to trade and new to trading, don't trade from your phone. You know, that's probably the the last thing, last resort I would use. I always use this for emergencies only, closing out positions only, keeping an eye on things if there's volatility or news coming out. But I don't trade from my phone and I don't recommend that you trade from your phone. Get a laptop as a minimum. I'll put all the links in the description for everything I've just been over. And if you like to look at this setup, get stuck in because look, that's what trading is really about. It's about I got into trading to be more free, free, flexible, you know, mobility. I like to travel. I like to keep making money in my trading whilst I'm on the go and enjoying life because that's what I'm doing it for in the first place.
