Fund Healthcare Not Billionaires3:00

Transcription

We heard that that we are supposed to get a report from administration this fall for the re-imagination of the PECAP. Just wanted to check to see, are we still on track?

James, that's something that we'll be working on, coming up with some brainstorming and ideas, and we'll be bringing to the board in the fall. Although VHP administers the program, this is actually primarily a conversation that's being led by SCVH and by Paul Loren.

Yes, it's going to be a complicated challenge because there's a bunch of state-related things happening at the same time, right? There's a proposal in the legislative budget. We'll see what happens again with uh the conversations with the governor, but there's a proposal to put some funding on so-called emergency only indigent care. We don't know what that means. I'm concerned about what that means. Um, I'm worried that what that means is that counties across California will be actually providing very, very narrow uh emergency-related care. That's not consistent with this county's values, mission, approach to healthcare delivery. And it's definitely not consistent with how to actually deliver healthcare to people.

One of the things that we have to figure out with whatever we do is, given the fact that we don't really have any money, is how do we leverage what funding there there is to cobble together some form of coverage. It's not going to be full-fledged insurance, but some form of coverage with our community clinic partners and within SCVH for continued access to preventative and primary care. The solution is going to be complicated to assemble. We're going to be working on it. Uh, but we're definitely not ready with any ideas yet, but we're very cleareyed about the problem.

We going to have something coming back around what, August, September, you think? Certainly not August. Um, the later in the fall. Um, I think we have more than enough stuff coming back in August right now.

I'm just trying to find out these complaints we heard today from many of the speakers. Uh, many of which I believe were Vietnamese speaking are complaining the fact that they are not able to find doctors that speak those language, literally right, just because of the fact that they are switching from one health plan to another. We have a lot of Vietnamese population in our county, and I just want to make sure that our our system has the the nurses and and physicians and in order to serve this community.
