Hey, what's up everybody? It's the - it here. And today, we're gonna talk about the Godox X2T wireless flash trigger.
In this video, I'm gonna show you how to connect and link your X2T trigger to the Godox V860 Mark II speedlight flash. A very important thing to know is that Godox and Flashpoint are the same. So, depending on what store you buy the gear from, it might be labeled as either Godox or Flashpoint. Everything that I'm saying applies to both. They are the exact same products.
Now, when it comes to syncing your speedlight with your trigger, the two important things to sync are the group and the channel. Now, before I show you step-by-step on how to do that, there's another important thing to know. Is that some other speedlight flashes will not sync with just those two. There's also another option to be able to set an ID for your units.
Now, having an ID selected not only helps the connection but also helps keeping interference pretty low or non-existent when you have other photographers using wireless triggers around you. What you want to do is you want to hold down the button that says zoom /c dot F N on your flash unit. Hold that down. And now you're going to go into a menu. Scroll down to where it says ID. Press set. And now choose an ID. This can go all the way from 1 to 99. I actually like to choose 90 just because I feel like most people won't use that. So, set that to whatever you want. Then we're going to go to your trigger. We're going to go into the menu. Press the menu button. Scroll down to ID. Press set. And then now choose the same exact ID. We're gonna choose 90. Set. And then now we're gonna go out of this menu system.
On your flash, press the back button. And now you'll see that it says TTL. Now, if you change the mode, you can go from manual to multi to TTL. Now, this is if this flash is directly on your camera. But that is not going to allow the trigger to control it. In order to actually sync your devices, you're going to click this little horizontal arrow, this little Z-like button. Click that not once, not twice, not three times, but four times till you see this little antenna icon on the top left and where it says slave.
Now, here, if you press mode, you can change between manual, multi, TTL. But honestly, once you have the trigger connected to it, it's not going to make a difference. All your settings will be done on the trigger. So, let's just say we leave it here on TTL. And right now, it says channel 7 and A. What the box is for the group. So, let's go ahead and change the group. I'm gonna change that to B. But you can keep clicking the group and it'll go from A, B, or C. I'm gonna go to B. If you press channel, now you can change the channel that you want. I'm gonna go to 7. Set. And then now the flash is set as a slave on group B and channel 7.
So, on your trigger, let's go and match the same settings. So, we're gonna go to the menu. And we're gonna go to channel. Make sure that we choose the same channel that's on this speedlight, which is 7. Set. Then get out of the menu. And now you'll see right now that there are no groups selected. Everything's off. Click on the B for the group. And then now you'll see that B is selected. And we can change the mode now to TTL or manual or off. And so, let's go ahead and put TTL. And then press set.
Now, you'll notice whatever I do here is gonna change this flash. So, right now, the flash unit says TTL, and so does the trigger. Now, if I change that mode by selecting the group again, B, and then pressing the mode to manual, then press set. Now, if I press the test button and I fire off a shot, it's going to change this unit to match whatever my settings are here. So, manual mode and quarter power. And now I'm going to change the power to let's say 1/16th power. Set. If I press the test shot, now you'll see that as I press it, it's not firing off. And the reason for that is because my trigger needs to be changed in the menu on the distance.
So, right now, under distance, press set. And now I have it set from 1 to 100 meters. Now, this is if you're going to be further away. Now, when you're close and you actually have that setting, it does tend to have some issues. So, if you know you're gonna be close to your unit, you have to change it from 0 to 30 meters. Go ahead and set that. So, now if I back up just a few inches and I press it, it's gonna fire off every time. And now whatever change I did here where I have 1/16th power, now it's gonna go on the flash and it shows 1/16th power. So, now any settings that you want to make have to be on the trigger. And now that they're connected, you can change your mode from manual to TTL or even multi for continuous shots.
So, to recap, have your trigger and your speedlight with the same ID, the same channel, and make sure that the speedlight that the group is on is also active on the trigger.
