Okay, once again, welcome to uh, fire life safety director master class. Right now, we're on section seven. Section seven is uh, it deals with uh, impairment to the building. Uh, again, the inspector is gonna ask you um, a question, but uh, this response though is is more specific. There's uh, there's not any room for wit, no wiggle room, or or you can't give a vague answer. So you gotta know what you're talking about.
Now, in a perfect world, the building owner/manager is the impairment coordinator, but he or she can designate somebody to be the be the impairment coordinator, and guess who that's going to be? You. So there are specific things that you have to do as the impairment coordinator. Get familiar with them; there's about 20 of them. Okay.
So you got an impairment in the building. There are specific steps to take, specific people to notify. Specifics: one, determine the extent and duration of the out-of-service condition. Two, inspect the building and assess the increased risk. Three, make a pro-appropriate recommendations to management or to owner. Four, notify central station that you have an impairment; something fire safety related is not working; that central station knows. Five, notify the insurance courier; uh, find out who that insurance courier is and let them know that you have an impairment in the building. Six, notify occupants of the affected areas. Seven, record all information in the log book. Eight, place a service tag at the fire command station, and included on that service tag should be the location of the impairment.
So then you're going to call the fire department borough dispatcher and give the following information about the out-of-service conditions: nine, brief description; ten, brief description and extent of out-of-service condition; eleven, the area of the building affected; twelve, the type of occupancy—this is an office building, this is a partial residential and partial office building, this is part hotel and part office building—let them know the type of occupancy of your building; thirteen, how long will system be out of service; fourteen, additional contact information. So give them a name, give them a number, give them a B name and a B number. When system is out of service for more than four hours, have at least one fire guard holding a current F-01 certificate or 50 certificate of fitness, and this is every 50,000 square feet. Unfortunately for you, if you don't have a fire guard after four hours, you need to evacuate the building.
Okay, fifteen, the work's been done, it's been completed, it's been tested; sixteen, confirmed the system is back in working order; seventeen, notify fire department borough dispatcher; eighteen, notified building manager and owner; nineteen, notify central station; twenty, notify insurance courier; twenty-one, notify affected occupants; twenty-two, remove the service tags from the fire command station; and twenty-three, record that the system is operational in the logbook.
So this is section seven uh, about the impairment. So prepare yourself and know these things and do well. Thank you.
