Peace and blessings be upon our master, the most honorable of messengers, and the beloved of the Lord of the worlds, and upon his family and his conquering companions.

Judgment belongs to Allah, the Blessed and Most High. Today, we speak about the Book of Zakat. What is Zakat, and in what is Zakat obligatory? It is called 'Zakat' or 'Bada' which is transmitted from Al-Fajr. And the mention of the charity that is paid in Ramadan, in particular, is one of the matters that are greatest in Islam. Allah Almighty says: "And establish prayer and give Zakat." And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Zakat is obligatory."

Zakat linguistically means growth and increase. Zakat, in terms of meaning, is an increase in wealth. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, called it "the impurities of people" because it purifies people from their sins. He said, peace be upon him: "Indeed, these charities are the impurities of people, and they are the impurities of people, so they purify them from their sins." He also said: "And it is not permissible for Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Zakat is not permissible for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, nor for his family, nor for those who are related to him by kinship.

Zakat is not permissible for Banu Hashim, Banu al-Muttalib, Ja'far, Aqil, Ali, and Al-Abbas. It is not from Zakat. We have learned that the charity that is voluntary charity, if someone gives voluntary charity, it is permissible for you. If someone gives you a gift, you can dispose of it. But from Zakat, those who are not permissible to receive it, it is not permissible for them. They do not eat from it.

As for the absolute vow, which is not specific to a person. If someone says, "I vow to Allah to give such and such," this vow is not from Zakat. If someone says, "I vow to you," this is also not from Zakat. Vows of expiation, such as the expiation of an oath, are not from Zakat. Similarly, the ransom that a person pays, for example, if they are unable to fast due to old age or illness, and they cannot fast, this is not from Zakat. The one who is vowed does not eat from it.

The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, when charity came to him, he gave it to the Companions. When a gift came to him, he ate it with the Companions. As for charity, it was not for them. He did not eat from all types of charities. Rather, he used to eat gifts.

What is the difference between charity and a gift? Charity is usually given to console or to help. A gift is usually given to strengthen the bonds of love. This is the difference between them. The Messenger of Allah was permitted to eat gifts, but not charities. Once, Al-Hasan was given a piece of charity, and he put it in his mouth. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "No, no, it is not fitting for us, the People of the House, to eat from this." Even if he were small, he would not be given from Zakat, as long as he is related to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

Zakat is obligatory in livestock: camels, cattle, and sheep. Camels are called 'Ibil', which includes males and females. Cattle are called 'Baqar', which are females, and the male is called 'Thawr'. Sheep are called 'Ghanam', which includes both males and females.

As for dates and raisins, and crops, Zakat is obligatory in them in the case of choice, such as wheat and barley. Zakat is also obligatory in the original crops that are used for sustenance. This means the mixed crops that the body lives on. This is the meaning of mixed crops that the body lives on. These are things that a person eats and lives on. This is the meaning of mixed crops that are sustenance and the body lives on. This is in the case of choice, not in the case of necessity. If a person is starving, they eat these things because they are in need.

What is meant here is that these mixed crops are sustenance. What is considered sustenance is what a person lives on out of necessity, without doubt, such as wheat and barley. And in gold and silver, Zakat is also obligatory. Gold and silver have two essential qualities. They are essential in themselves. As for other stones, such as rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds, Zakat is obligatory in their essence. However, in other things, unless it is for trade, Zakat is obligatory.

Zakat of trade is obligatory. It is not Zakat because it is gold. And 'Makhzun' is what is hidden in the earth, from this gold and silver. It is called 'Makhzun' because Allah Almighty created it in the earth. And 'Rikaz' is what a person finds of gold and silver. This also requires Zakat.

And in trade, which are the funds intended for profit through buying and selling, which is called trade. If a person buys and sells, and it reaches the Nisab at the end of the year, the lunar year, based on the lunar months.

And Zakat al-Fitr. What are the conditions for Zakat al-Fitr to be obligatory? There are conditions. These conditions are that the person must be free, Muslim, and able to provide for themselves. If the person is Jewish, they are not obligated. If the person is a slave, they are not obligated.

And that a full year passes over his possession. If the owner was previously in possession, and it was in his possession, and the amount for which Zakat is due, or more than that, and a year passes while he owns this.

And that they are grazing animals, meaning they graze in the pastures. It is not required that he incurs the cost of feeding them. If he buys food to feed them, this is not required.

And if they are working animals, such as camels used for carrying water, or donkeys used for carrying water, or for plowing the land. These are considered working animals. If they are working animals, then Zakat is not obligatory on them.

What is the first Nisab for the three types of livestock? The first Nisab for camels is five. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "In five camels, there is one sheep." And the second Nisab is twenty. And the third Nisab is thirty-six.

And the sheep. What is the Nisab for sheep? It is forty sheep. If he has forty sheep, then one sheep is due. If he has twenty camels, then one sheep is due.

And in dates and raisins, and crops, in the case of choice, Zakat is obligatory in them. If it is watered by rain, then one-tenth is due. If it is watered by irrigation, then one-twentieth is due.

The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "In what is watered by the sky, one-tenth is due. And in what is watered by irrigation, one-twentieth is due."

And in gold and silver, Zakat is obligatory. The Nisab for gold is twenty mithqal, which is approximately 85 grams of pure gold. And the Nisab for silver is two hundred dirhams, which is approximately 595 grams of pure silver.

And in trade, Zakat is obligatory. The Nisab for trade is the same as the Nisab for gold or silver, depending on what is prevalent in the country.

And Zakat al-Fitr. What is Zakat al-Fitr? It is a measure of food that is given on behalf of every Muslim, male or female, free or slave, young or old. It is one Sa' of food, or its equivalent in money.

And the conditions for Zakat al-Fitr are that the person must be Muslim, free, and able to provide for themselves.

And the time for paying Zakat al-Fitr is from the beginning of Ramadan until the Eid prayer. It is recommended to pay it before the Eid prayer.

And the recipients of Zakat are the eight categories mentioned in the Quran: the poor, the needy, the collectors of Zakat, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, the freeing of slaves, the debtors, those in the cause of Allah, and the wayfarer.

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who hoards gold and silver and does not spend them in the cause of Allah, then give them glad tidings of a painful punishment."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Whoever spends in the cause of Allah, it will be multiplied for him seven hundred times."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The best of charity is that which is given by a rich person."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who gives charity with his right hand, his left hand does not know what his right hand has given."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who gives charity to a poor person, it is like giving charity to himself."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who gives charity to a relative, it is like giving charity and maintaining kinship."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who gives charity to a neighbor, it is like giving charity to a Muslim."

And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "The one who gives charity to a non-Muslim, it is like giving charity to himself."
