Expanding your capacity for discomfort is one of the most underrated strategies for success, for peak performance, for just personal growth.
We have this little matrix that we share where your opportunities in life are directly proportional to the discomfort you're willing to face and the visibility that you get as you're doing it. And not enough people do it because we allow the feeling of discomfort to be a verdict that, "Oh, okay, I'm not ready yet. I'm not going to do that."
Just do it. Push through the discomfort. The more we do that, it activates the striatum in the brain. These are small acts of ownership. And so what starts to happen is the discomfort starts to feel good because that part of the brain is associated with surprise rewards. And so you start to think, "Oh, that actually felt really good." So then the idea of leaning into discomfort comes to be something you look forward to.
