Hey, hey, Royal fam. So, you want to make a talking avatar, huh? And you want it to be free, easy, and all inside Canva, huh? Say less. I got you. Today, we're whipping up a full-on animated character that actually talks. No downloads, no stress, just straight Canva magic. Yep. Let's get into this digital glow up royal style.

All righty, let's jump straight into it. Canva just dropped a fresh update, so things look a little different. Now, to find Dreamlabs, head to the top menu and click on Canva AI. Since today we're just building our fabulous avatar, we're going to hit create an image. Easy peasy.
First thing we got to check is the aspect ratio. Since we're making this for a YouTube video, we're going to go with the good old 16:9 option. You'll see six choices pop up. Just click on the one that fits your format and boom, you're set. Uh, next up, let's take a peek at the different style options. Now, sometimes I like to play around with the smart setting, but for today, we're leaving it on none. Right here, you'll see how many credits you've got to play with. Let's take a quick stroll through some of my past creations. Most of these were generated with a plus-size prompt. So, this is what that looks like in Dream Labs. Cute, right? Magnificent.
All right, hop back up to the top and drop in this prompt: create a realistic, beautiful African-American woman sitting at a desk recording a podcast. She's got rich brown skin, big curly hair, and she's rocking stylish urban vibes. Graphic tee, jean jacket, hoop earrings, trendy glasses. She's got on headphones with a mic and open laptop in front of her. The background, total podcast goals: shelves, plants, LED lights, wall art, the works. Digital illustration style, vibrant and modern vibe. And hit enter.
These turned out super cute. Let's take a look through them and pick the one that's giving us the most podcast queen energy. Okay, let's use her. Not making any changes this time, but just so you know, you can tweak and or upscale if you want. For now, we're keeping it simple. Just hit open in editor or tap those three little dots and click download.
First things first, we're going to fix her missing hair. Now, if you're not rocking the paid Canva plan, go ahead and skip this part. But if you do have it, here's the move. Make the picture a bit smaller. Head to the edit tool, click on Magic Expand, and just sit back while it works its magic. Literally. Okay, it's done. Let's check out all four of the options Magic Expand gave us and pick the one that's serving the best look.
Now, let's say you want to remove something from the scene. Easy. We're heading back into the magic studio and clicking on magic grab. Let's grab this plant right here. And poof, it's gone.
All right. Now, let's head over to the app section and type in DID. That's where the real magic starts. Time to bring our avatar to life. This is it right here. I already have it set up, so I'm just going to click into the app. While the app's loading, let's multitask a little. Go ahead and download our picture. So, it's ready to upload into DID. Stay one step ahead royalty style.
Once that's downloaded, let's hop back to the app, click upload, and drop that picture right into DID. Let's get her talking, y'all. All right, we've got the picture uploaded. It should be auto-selected for you. Now, scroll down to the text section. So, we can use the text-to-speech option. And hey, if you already have your own audio ready to go, we covered how to do that in an earlier video. Links down below.
Now, we're going to go ahead and drop in our text. And don't forget to insert a little pause if you want it to sound more natural. Just helps the flow, you know. I'm going to go ahead and select all and take a peek at the voice options. We're keeping it set to English, US for this one. But y'all, there is a long list to choose from. And remember, like I mentioned in an earlier video, DID voices are powered by 11 Labs, aka one of the best in the game.
All right, I found a voice I like. Let's go ahead and click generate presenter. And just like I mentioned last time, right under that button, you'll see how many credits it's going to use and how many you've got left, keeping track like a true creative boss.
Okay, it's all done. Let's head over to our upload section and double-check that Canva saved both the original picture and the video we just created. Got to make sure our royal assets are locked and loaded. All right, let's go ahead and delete that picture and expand our video to fill the frame. Now, you'll notice there's a little watermark in the corner. Totally normal. You can hide it with an element or logo, crop it out, or shift the video a bit so it's off-screen. But for this one, I'm just going to leave it. No biggie.
Okay, let's hit play and check out the video I just made. So excited to see our avatar in action. Then we'll take a quick peek at Magic Media before we wrap things up.
"Hey, I'm the avatar you see here. Made using Canva. And guess what? It was totally free. See how easy it is to bring your ideas to life. If I can be made this quick, imagine what you can create."
Let's hop into Magic Media real quick and see what we get using a similar prompt. We're going under images, switching up the aspect ratio, and yeah, they've got a list of styles, but we're keeping it on default for now. Um, we had to trim our prompt down to 280 characters, but let's go ahead and see what Magic Media gives us. Fingers crossed for something fab. And right under the generate button, you'll see your credits, how many you've got left, and how many this one's going to use.
All right, we've got four results. And honestly, they're all super cute, but this one right here, yeah, she's my fave. Total main character energy.
All right, time for a quick royal recap. If you're on the free Canva plan, you get 20 lifetime uses for Dream Labs and 20 for DID videos. So, use them wisely. Each Dream Labs image equals one credit. Magic Media is a little looser. You'll get some free credits here and there. Now, if you're rocking a paid plan, you get 500 Dream Labs and 500 Magic Media image credits every month, plus 50 for video. Just a heads up, DID stays at 20 lifetime credits, even with Pro. Either way, there's tons of creative power in every tier. You just got to use it like a boss.
And there you have it, Royal Fam. You just made a full talking avatar without ever leaving Canva. How cool is that? Now, if you want to level up your prompt writing game and really master this stuff, check out the description below. We've got links to our avatar creation three-part master class. In the first video, we go deep into crafting prompts that actually work and give you consistent results. So, don't miss it.
