Okay. Okay. Let me make sure. All right. All right, everybody. All right. Eyes on me, please.
Okay. So, today is our final performance day. All right. Today's the final performance day. So, listen carefully. It's not just about acting. I don't want you guys to just go up there and do a scene. Okay. What you're going to do is you're going to act, but then I want you, not the audience, I want the group who goes up today to explain their choices that they made by using evidence. All right?
So, we're going to look at the board. We're going to read the learning goal together right here.
Can you guys read that?
Okay. I can.
I can explain my acting choices using.
I think we all have that. Okay. So, I'll read it back to you. I can explain my acting choices, what we just said, using evidence. Quiet, please. And I can perform a scene that clearly communicates my character's objective and motivation. Okay. So, we've read that together. It's very clear. We've gone over this for the past three days. Okay. So, good. All right.
So, let's remember what we did. So, day one, we figured out what the character wants and why objective, right? Motivation. Day two, we fixed what was unclear. We went back, we dove back into the scene, and we put some clarity on it. Right? And today I want you to show it to the rest of us very clearly and explain to us why you made your choices.
So what is objective? One more time. Anybody?
What the character wants?
Great. Great. Yes. Uh what is motivation?
Why the character wants it?
Good. Good. What are acting choices?
How the character shows it.
Good. What is evidence?
What you saw or heard that proves an idea.
Yep. Exactly. Okay. So, remember what we used on the first day, last slice of pizza. My objective is I want that last slice of pizza. My motivation, haven't eaten all day. So, the acting choice that I make is to be weak. Weak with my voice, weak with my posture. Right? The evidence is me grabbing my stomach, maybe lowering my voice and being weak. So, I want you guys to be able to explain that with your choices. So, after you do your scene, you say, "Okay, this was my objective. This was my motivation, my why. This was the evidence that I used by making this choice." Okay? So, that is what I want from you. All right?
So, here's how today works. One group is going to perform. We as the audience are going to analyze. We're going to analyze. Don't let that word scare you. It just means watch, right? And then you as the group are going to explain your choices. All right? Audience, you're still an active participant in this. Your job is to think. So, I want you guys to really have this vocabulary at the forefront of your mind while they're up there performing.
So, one more time, what is objective? What acting choice made it clear? What evidence proves it? The motivation. Okay, so one more time, we're going to go through this. I know we're beating a dead horse, but I want you guys to know it. Objective.
You guys are so tired of me.
Motivation, why the character wants it?
Boom. Acting choices. shows it.
Evidence.
You guys are rock stars. Okay. Okay. So, um, who would like to go first? How about our group that I worked with the other day? You guys can go ahead and go.
You You got to because it's what's on camera. And you guys volunteered to be my focus students. We're really happy about.
You're really happy.
You want us to do a new prompt?
I know. Uh, no.
No, you can do the same. You can do the same thing yesterday.
Let's do a new prompt. Actually, let's do a new prompt. I'm going to give you guys a couple minutes. Okay.
I'll give you a couple minutes. All right.
All right. Listen up. Listen up. All right, guys. You are going to finalize your work today, giving a clear scene and explaining your acting choices, your objective, your motivation, and you are also going to be talking about the evidence that you use for these things. So, be very clear in this. We've been rehearsing this. And when you guys are ready, I will count down to three, to two, to one, and you'd like to go.
Okay, auditioners, come in. Why do you want to be my s chef? Oh, I um you know this restaurant, it's just such a nice layout and it's so big and so perfect for my evil. I need um my um my um get out my.
go to audition.
I don't care. Go away. Go with her. She like Hi. Hi. Why do you want my.
Well, I've really been struggling lately and I just got out of high school and I need to do my taxes. I really want to get out of my house and I really want to practice English.
I have heart, soul, and I want to put that into my food with my recipes passed down from generations and generations. I want to inspire learners with my delicious delicious food.
What do I do? I have good recipes, please.
Okay, go in the waiting room with them. I'll consider it. What's your reason? So you know the movie and I just like.
no chef.
my.
Yeah, you're talking about Ratatouille. I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO AUDITION.
I have so much heart and so I'M GOING TO TURN this cafe INTO SOME EVIL RESTAURANT. Put my FEET IN THE START ORGANIZATION SOMEWHERE ELSE.
MY blood sweat and tears still got to this restaurant.
Okay. And scene. Fantastic job. I'm sorry that you auditioners Wait, wait, guys. Stay up there. Stay up there. Stay up there. Stay up there. I'm sorry that you auditioners had to endure such a chaotic day. This sounds like a very stressful job.
Um, sounds very stressful.
We're going to take a suggestion from the audience. Listen up. Listen up. Um, we're going to take a suggestion from the audience real quick. Um, what was their objective? Would anybody like to guess?
Kaylee. Was that the objective?
Okay. Okay. We all have the same objective. That's great. Okay. Um, what uh was the motivation for any of these? Because they all have different motivation. Remember, that's your choice as the actor. For any of them, would anybody like to guess what the motivation was for any of them? Yes, Angelo. for one of them for it's to turn the um to be an evil.
to turn it into an evil place an evil underground layer. Scary Disney meets you know a scary movie. Okay. Yes.
Kayla. Was that it, Sienna?
Great. Great.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes. Sophia.
Sorry, I can't hear you. What?
Okay, gotcha. Um, okay. So, I want to hear from the tours. Um, we will start with Sienna. Um, I want you to use the sentence frame. I don't know if you can read it all the way from back here. So, you can come forward.
You can. Okay. So, the sentence frame, my character's objective is blank.
Sienna.
My character's objective.
Sorry, Sienna. Yes, Sienna. Go ahead.
My character's objective is to kill because I want to pay my bills and move out of my parents house.
Good. So, we know her objective. The is the motivation, right? Um and then now, uh Sienna, I would like you to explain to me why the performance was clear because.
because I gave reasons to why I wanted.
Can you hold that whole sentence?
The performance was clear because I gave the job.
Yes. Great job. Okay, very good. Now for Zena, um, what I would like you to do is use the sentence. My character objective is what?
My character's objective is to become a scientist because I want to turn the restaurant into my layer.
Great. Okay.
One acting choice I made.
Okay, great. Great. The evidence evidence is the evidence and tell us what evidence is.
The evidence is the way I spoke in my studies and how careful I was.
Good. That is clear. That is clear. Okay. And then Mr. Murphy um what acting choice helped you understand the character said a lot of words about.
that's okay. You can use a sentence right now.
You guys all have the same objective. Remember.
my character's objective is to become a sush inspire young learners of the world with my delicious and nutritious meals.
Great. Great. Good job. One choice I made. One choice I made was to speak about how I'm going to learn this new generation because my grandma gave me these beautiful recipes.
Great. Great. And the performance is perfect because the performance is good because I talked about how.
Okay. And then the last thing evidence is.
evidence is.
Very close. Very close. Um.
one moment. I'll give you a moment to think about the evidence. Okay? The evidence is the choice you make it physically or with your voice. Take a moment to think about that. One moment.
Hello, this is Mr. Okay. So.
come on guys, stay focused. Okay. The evidence is.
evidence because of the way I was.
Good. So, how did you show your happiness? What could you have done physically? Skipping with.
good. Good. Okay. Skipping with so you would say that.
do this sentence for you. The evidence.
Yes. Great job. Great job. Great job. Okay. Um, that was really good. Okay. So, um, go ahead, guys. Give him a round of applause. Give him a round of applause.
Okay.
Good job, y'all. Thank you for doing that.
I know it's a little grading to be like teach you treating you guys like you're in kindergarten.
Okay. Okay.
All right.
Okay. So, uh noticing a little bit of a pattern. Um some of you guys you're you are performing clearly, but your explanations are still a little too general. Um, you know, like if I just said it, if I did that like I just did it, that's not enough, right? You need to be like very descriptive. So, my character's objective is to get the pizza because I am starving. One acting choice I made was using a loud voice because I wanted urgency. I wanted people to take me seriously. The evidence is that you could hear my urgency clearly. How do you show urgency? Hey, I need that last piece of pizza. That's me being urgent, right? Hey, get that counter. That's a tree. That's me being urgent, right? Okay. So, that's specific. So, that's what I want. And I want you guys to think about that while you're doing your acting. Okay. So, okay.
Does anybody else want to go?
Will you?
Fantastic.
Fantastic.
Do you guys want to go?
No, you can do the exact. You can even do the pizza thing if.
you can make it very simple. All right, Guys, so here's the thing.
Um, I'll pass out your exit ticket at the end. You do not have to do it. I'm just passing it out.
Okay.
Okay.
So, what?
Oh, I know. I'm going to edit this whole thing.
Yeah. Watch. And they'd be like, "Yeah, you guys kind of.
Yeah, they accidentally hear some of that. That would be bad." No, I'm going to edit it in iMovie.
You better double check every single clip.
I'm going obsessively.
you got the camera.
Okay, we ready?
Okay, guys.
Let's be quiet. Let's lower our voices.
All right. And.
once again, I want you guys to perform. And when you perform, folks, make sure you justify your choices. Um, tell us your objective, your motivation, the evidence. Okay. And when you're ready.
guys, it's starting to get late. The party's going to be over. I found the LAST calm down. Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. What if he outside? calm down.
Be quiet.
Let him speak.
I have never in my life screamed at a girl like this.
Who are you talking to?
Guys, guys, let's listen to the.
I think I deserve it. Okay.
Are you safe? And I need you guys to clean the house, please. So.
why would I clean the house? It's not my house.
Not me, though. Huh? Not me. ME.
YOU GUYS have all been yelling at him. I'm the only one who has been calm and collected. You guys are are over here being all trashy. You guys need to calm down and get out.
My snail needs that.
And then maybe you.
Because my snail needs it. He's starving. He's so small. Look at him. Do you not see this?
Okay.
we can pause there. I I I'm going to do a quick check the pulse real quick. Um, so first off, Angela, uh, what was the objective? So, reading the sentence frame.
um, my character's objective is to get these three annoying kids out of my house because.
No, that would be your motivation. What's the objective?
Oh, yeah. No, my objective is just to get.
Oh, to get them out of your house. Okay.
And because because they are uh because it's getting late and like the party's already.
So, why would you want them out of your house because it's late? Because.
the ending.
and you maybe feel.
I feel anxious because they're fighting over one little thing.
Okay. So, the full sentence frame would be my objective is to get them out of the house because I feel anxiety. Right. Okay. Um and then the next sentence frame is one acting choice I made was.
um.
one acting choice I made was like holding on to the ice damage really quick like really hardly. It could show that I'm really I'm really stressed out and I'm really like getting angry over this because it's because they're not listening to me and they're interrupting me.
And that's good. Uh the performance was clear because.
because the performance was clear because of.
I don't know what it mean by the performance.
The performance was clear. So you communicated your emotion clearly. So like if you had anxiety, you communicated that the evidence that you would use would be, "Oh my, I'm so nervous and your voice gets higher and your body gets tenser." That would be Does that make sense? That's the clarity.
The performance is clear because you can see I'm stressing out by like by holding by holding something really really and getting my voice really agitated from this.
Very good. Very good. Okay, good job. Uh would one other person like to.
Okay, Sophia.
or Isabella.
Um, my character's objective was to get the last ice cream because she was craving it and she's cocky and she thinks that she deserves everything that she asked for and that she always gets everything she wants.
Okay. Okay. Um, and one acting choice I made was blank because blank. One choice I made was inter.
performance was clear because.
performance was clear because emotion.
No, I'm talking about you though.
What emotion specifically?
Okay, so arrogance and anger, right? You're cocky, you're angry. Okay. Um, the evidence is.
evidence.
of how you showed that.
Um, I was pushing around everybody while they were also the ice cream because I didn't want anybody else to have it.
Good.
Good. Good job, guys. Give him a round of applause. Give him a round of applause. Okay. So, Okay, guys. This is the last part. This is the last part. Okay. Um, let me see here. All right, guys. Here is your exit ticket. Who would like to pass these out to make sure everybody in the room gets one? Okay, you are closest to me, so I will give it that to you. Okay. All right, gang. Now, I need to see your final thinking. So, I am passing out your exit ticket. Please put your name on it. And I want you to answer this clearly. What was your character's objective? What was your character's motivation? How did your acting choices show that? What evidence proves it? Please use complete sentences. You must use complete sentences. Okay?
Use the sentence sentence frames if you need them. I'm going to leave them on the board. Thank you.
You have five minutes and go. If you have any questions, I'll be circling around the room.
You have five minutes and go.
