When I spoke for Turning Point USA at Cal State Fullerton, we made it clear that our mission that day was to preach the gospel to the unsaved, not to talk politics or to give counsel to believers. Here's the president of Turning Point, Cal State Fullerton, making that clear.
Ever since what happened on the 10th, our heart has completely shifted from trying to get students to register to trying to get students to register into heaven to understand the gospel and to understand the purpose of us being here. This event really is for the students on campus that don't know what the gospel is, don't know what their calling is.
In the past, when preaching the gospel at universities, we would say, "No Christians, please." and we'd have a gatekeeper to make sure that those who were stepping up weren't already believers. With all that was going on, I forgot to explain the importance of this to the gatekeeper. Okay, so Romans 13, you a Christian? Yes. Consequently, that left me having to ask people to step down. Something that's nearly impossible to do without sounding rude. Okay, next person. Thank you, man.
Afterwards, a number of Christians were more than upset. They said in the comments that I was rude, impatient, and unloving because I didn't bother to answer the questions that Christians had. If they hadn't heard what was said in the beginning or didn't know that our agenda was to reach the unsaved, their outrage was understandable. So, my sincere apologies for not making it more clear. In the future, we'll make our agenda abundantly clear that we're there to preach the gospel, and will have a sign saying skeptics get first chance to ask questions.
In Luke 13, Jesus spoke about a disaster that tragically killed 18 men. Instead of giving the ultimate apologetical explanation, Jesus just said, "Do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?" I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. He brought them back to their responsibility towards God on judgment day. And we need to do the same. Here's our living waters team engaging in apologetics, but always going back to what Jesus told us to do in Mark 16:15 to preach the gospel to every creature because it's the gospel that's the power of God to salvation.
Another thing is Prophet Muhammad while he was having dinner with his companions, a fly fell into a cup of water and he said, "Dig it twice because one side of the fly has the disease, the other side has the cure." And they just found it out recently in the early 2000s that the fly has a disease in one side of his wing and a cure in the other side. So the reason why I believe in Islam more is because there's more facts inside the Quran and what Muhammad, Prophet Muhammad said. Critics point out that insects like flies do not produce antibodies and the idea of a disease in one wing and a cure in the other is not consistent with what we know about microbiology or insect physiology.
I don't know if you're familiar with the Christian worldview and how they rebut all the things that you said. I won't do that right now for the sake of time people here. But I will say this, the Bible says unless a man repents, he will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Mhm. That when we talk about Jesus, he's not just one man amongst many men. You think of the other prophets. They spoke from authority, but Jesus spoke with authority. I would say Jesus is sovereign. That he does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, to whomever he wants. He answers to no one. God is in heaven. He does what he pleases. And he doesn't care what you think about it. Right? This one Jesus, he's had no predecessor. He have no successor. You cannot impeach him. He'll never resign. He does not stand in a long line of other contemporaries whether it be Buddha, Confucious, Muhammad. He is entirely different.
When Jesus rose again from the dead, when his temple was killed and he rose himself up, he did the one thing that nobody else could do. He created his own heartbeat and he walked out of that tomb. And when that stone was rolled away, it was not to let Jesus out, but to let the rest of us in. When it comes to Jesus Christ, we cannot settle for ambiguity. He didn't give us room for that. He didn't give us options to just look at him and say he was a good moral teacher or he was just a good moral man.
Friends, on the day of judgment, God isn't going to compare us to other people. He's going to compare us to his own standard of righteousness, his commandments, his moral law. And if we've told one lie, we're liars. We've stolen one thing. We're thieves. We've used his name in vain. We're blasphemers. We've had unjust anger, hatred in our heart, we're guilty of murder. We all deserve hell. Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago came as a man, went to that cross and bore the wrath and judgment that we deserve. So, it's kind of like this. To get to heaven, if you can imagine, you have to be wearing a robe that says perfect all over it. But your robe and my robe says sin all over it. Front, back, sides, on the sleeves, everywhere.
When Jesus came, if you can imagine, he was wearing a robe that said perfect all over it cuz he's God, perfect in every way. He took that robe off, laid it aside, came up to sinners like you and me, took off of us the robes that we were wearing that were that set sin on them and put them on himself. It still said perfect all over his body because his nature doesn't change. But then he went to the cross and there he bore the wrath we deserve. He took our place so that now if we repent and place our faith in what he did, God will wash away every sin we've ever committed. We'll believe in his death and resurrection and receive life through that. And then he'll take that robe that Jesus was wearing that said perfect all over it and he'll put it on us. So that now when God sees us, he sees us clothed in perfect righteousness, not our own, but his given to us as a free gift of his grace. So our hope is that you'll turn to him and find everlasting life. Please welcome Oscar.
That said, if you can hear me right now and you are not a Christian, can we hear from you? I am not just offering you a meaningful life. Although I do believe a Christlike life is a meaningful life, a meaningful life gives me no sense of urgency of being here. That does nothing for me to show up. The sense of urgency of this is eternity because I believe that each and one of each and every single person here are one of two things. You're either a child of God or a child of wrath. And that might sound offensive to you, but let me just put it like this. A child of wrath is simply somebody that says in their heart of hearts, I know better than God. I'm going to do life my way. I'm going to do sexuality my way. I'm going to plan for my future my way. And that is the only thing that matters to me. If that is you, you are simply a child of wrath. You are not living out your telos.
Often we are blind from our own sins. Do you consider yourself a good person? I do. You do. Can I Can I test you on that? Sure. Have you ever lied? Yes. You have? Do you Do you like when people lie to you? No. Okay. So, you don't live by your own standard of not being a liar. Right. Right. No, I'm not judging you. I'm I'm a liar. Have you ever We're all hypocrites. Don't worry. Have you ever stolen anything that doesn't belong to you? That includes streaming something off of someone else's password that you didn't pay for. Oh, yeah. I sell the seven C's often online. All right. So, you're a liar and a thief. I am. Would you like would you like to have someone steal something from you? That would not be uh very welcome though. Ideal. Right. So, you're also not living up to your own standards. But even more importantly is that you're not living up to the standards of God. Uh I'm not here for the Christians. Go to church. Listen to your pastor. He studies all week to help you understand to explain the scriptures. I want to talk to the people who aren't going to church. The reason why we're here is because there is a dividing line. That's true. Between those who believe and those who don't.
I believe that Jesus lives a noble life. And I'm agnostic, but I believe that the teachings are Jesus of Jesus are an example for how we should live our lives in a moral code that we should follow. Now, you heard Ry and Oscar go through some of the commandments. Have you kept the commandments? No. And I don't think any human can. I'm very honest, have you? I'm glad we don't have to go through them all. But the point is this. It's appointed for men once to die. Mankind, men and women once to die. You know, you're not going to live forever. And and then the judgment. God commands all men to repent because he has appointed a day in which he would judge the world. He died. He was buried. He was in the grave three days and rose again on the third day. He is the judge on judgment day.
I'm lesbian and I grew up Christian and now I identify as agnostic because I was taught that I can't live the way I want to. I can't love the way I want to. If God is a God that will condemn me for loving somebody else, that will condemn me for all these things, a vengeful God that wants punishment, then I don't want to follow that kind of Jesus. I want to follow the Jesus who lived the life, who supported the marginalized and loved the marginalized. That's the Christianity I want to follow.
The Bible was written by humans, not by God. Ever written a letter? Yes, of course. Did you use a pen to write it? Would you say the pen wrote the letter? No. Of course not. God used men as pens and pencils to write the Bible. He inspired them. He gave him his word. And so the Bible is an inspired word of God. And if you if you will follow and trust it, you'll be blessed. And if you don't, there are dire consequences. I don't want to see that for you. Victoria, we have to close it up. Thank you so much.
