Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome. We're going to make something another easy peasy, quick and easy tote bag. This one is great for all kinds of things. Um, this one we're going to use dish drying mats for. I've seen people do these and I thought, you know what, y'all might enjoy this. And I love cherries. And I saw these two dish drying mats that were cherries and I was like, "Yeah, I think I need that. I think I need those dish drying mats and I think I need to make me a little tote bag out of them." That's what I thought.
Trying to get a hold of something here to cut this with. It's not my fabric scissors. So have to get them all opened up. And this tells you that this one is 14 by 21. Okay. So that's how big our tote bag is going to be or close there right about. Inside of this is terry cloth. The outside is a microfiber. Um kind of microfiber both I think. Just to tell you the truth. Yeah, it's all 100% polyester. Yeah, polyester. And I've got this pretty red webbing here that we're going to put on it. And we're going to bind the top with this right here because we need to cover our pieces. All right.
First off, first of all, we need to Y'all do not need to line this because these are already the seams are already done. Just like that. But we do need to cut our squares out of the bottom of this. Okay. And I'm going to cut about a 3in square out of the bottom of this. I want it three. That's That's four. There we go. Let's turn it this way, y'all. I'm Let's do it this way. 3 by three. That's what we want. Right there. 3 by three. Now, I'm going to mark both bottom corners right here. 3 by three. Can y'all see what I'm doing? Turn you down just a little bit. Bring me down here just a little bit so you can see good. All right, here we go. Get your ruler turned the right way. You can just mark both sides just like that. See there? And then we'll cut this one the same way. And let's mark this one right here. Just cutting a 3-in square out of the bottom corners. And this is a one-way design, y'all. So, you want to make sure you get it. If it is a oneway, see, my cherries are all facing upward. If it is a one-way design, then you want to make sure you get it all in the right direction. Okay.
Now [Music] then, just cut out these corners right like this. Because this is microfiber, you all, it's not going to ravel. Or we could take our lighter and singe it, couldn't we? Let's try that. Then we'll know if it works. I bet it does. It does. So, let's do that. Y'all take your lighter and you just want to run it across there. You don't want to catch the whole thing on fire. You just want to heat that up till it singes it a little bit just so that it will not ravel. Okay. Then you've got a finished edge. That way you don't have to worry about it raveling or getting bad looking or anything like that cuz it just kind of melts it a little bit and then it seals it. All right, there we go. We are ready to put this baby together. All right, quick, quick, quick, easy.
All right, now then we need to put our straps on here. Okay. And because this was folded like that, I can see these lines. See that? You can see those crease lines right there where that was folded. And I'm going to use those to my benefit. Yes, I am. And I'm going to cut me a handle. I don't want it to be real long. I'm just measuring it just like this. because if you get it too long, it's hard to carry. Okay, we're going to cut it about like this right here. I'll tell you, I'm going to measure it. Don't worry. 18 in. Two pieces that are 18 in right here. And I'm using red. You could use black. You could use white. You could use green. But I'm using webbing. You can make your own straps with fabric if you want to, but we're doing this beginner friendly. Quick and easy. Okay. Quick, easy, beginner friendly project. Now then, let me cut this in two so that they're the same size. So, I'm going cut this off where that tape was or is or whatever. Because this is cotton, it will not. All right, there's our pieces. We need a piece of this cuz I'm going to put it around the top because I want to cover that. You don't have to. You can just zigzag those straps on there and you are good to go. But I want to do this. So I'm going to do this and I'm gonna cut me a piece about 2 and 1/2 in right here or three. I'll just cut it three inches. [Music] right there. It's all you need is that. All right, I'm going to meet y'all over here at the machine and we're going to sew this baby together.
All right, are y'all ready to sew this little baby together? I am. We're going to sew down this side, across the bottom, and down the other side. Okay. And I'm going to sew right along this where it's stitched already. Just sew right along there. [Music] [Music] Okay, I think I broke my thread. I did. Broke a thread. Sure did. [Music] somehow. Let's get our machine threaded back up. We all have this happen occasionally and we don't really know why but it just does gets caught on something or maybe there's a thin plac in the thread or you know who knows but no worries because we are getting it right back. All right, now we're good to go again. All right, here we go. I'm just sewing this. It's about quarter inch seam. Get y'all out of the way. All right, I'm going sew across the [Music] bottom. Same thing. Back stitch when you start and you stop. I have to move y'all over cuz this doesn't it's going to knock you down probably. Oh goodness me. All right. Now we're going to sew back down this other side right here. Y'all back here. I want y'all to be able to see. Well, broke a thread again. I think it's this mat sewing this fabric. It's got two pieces of foam in it and so forth. I think it's a little bit heavy and I'm just flying through there like a crazy woman. And so Now we have to back up here and try again. All right, there you go. Now then we're going to take this right here. Turn it right like this and match those seams in the middle. Lay it flat and stitch this. This is getting our corners on the bottom. Okay. Back stitch when you start and you stop. [Music] There one corner [Music] done. Always clip your extra threads. you all. Y'all, these are make great for Christmas. You could make little gift bags, little Christmas gift bags. Um, I just had that idea. That would be cute. You can make your own gift bags at Christmas. And then they have a nice little tote bag to use, too. Yes, they do. All right. Here we go. Bada bing, bada boom. There we go.
Let's turn it right side out. We're going to sew our straps on here. And if you want to put the binding on it, I'm going to show you how. If you don't want to and you just want to make this a tote bag just like this, then just leave it just like this. Okay. But I'm going to put a binding around the top of mine. Where y'all? So you can see see what I'm doing. I'll get just got you back. All right. We are going to go in here and remember what I said. We've got our lines right there. We're going to lay this on the outside of the bag like this. Okay. Come back over here and find your other mark. Okay. If you do not want to and you want to just zigzag this and then turn it to where and stitch it right in here, you can do that. And then your bag is finished. Easy peasy. But I'm going to add a little bit of bonding to mine. Um, just because I just want that little extra. Plus, I want this to where it's not it doesn't show. Y'all, I don't think these are lining up. Let's do this right here. And then I'm going to measure because you know we should do that. I'm going to measure it because you know we we should measure, right? That's 5 and 1/2 ines in there and that's 5 and 1/2 in there. All right. Let's see what we got on this side. It's 5 and 1/2 there. And that one is six and a half. This one's got to go over right here. Make sure you don't have these twisted because, you know, we don't want them twisted. Now then, for your binding for the top, I just think it'll add a little extra to it. Y'all see? Good. I pressed in a quarter of an inch or so on one side. All right.
Now, then we're going to do this right like this. We're going to lay this down. I got to turn this way so y'all can see and I can see. Leave some hanging off here. Okay. You do not want it to come You don't want it right at the seam. Okay. You want to leave an inch or so cuz you've got plenty. I think. Don't you like the way I do that? I think we have plenty. And then we're going to clip this right like this. all the way around. You do not have to have your binding this wide. All right. Yes, we had plenty. We left an inch or so right here. And so to do this, you can measure it all, lay it all out if that's your what you want to do, but I do it right like this. And I stitch it leave leaving this just a little bit. Start here and stitch to here. You want to leave this unattached for just a little ways. Okay, but here we go. We're going to stitch this on here. I'm going to move that table out of the way. So, this will fit on here. And just stitch right away. Start. When you start and you stop, you want to back stitch. Okay? Y'all see? Try not to speed you up cuz this is one of the quickest little bags you can make. And they turn out so cute. And I'm going to go across this. I'm going to stop since I didn't hit the back stitch button. But we want to stitch across our handle very well. Okay. I stitch that handle about four times back and forth. [Music] Okay. Now we're coming up to the other side of this handle. Because your handles have a lot of stress put on [Music] them. [Music] [Music] Here's our next handle. [Music] Heat. Heat. All right.
Now then, this is what we're going to do here. See this? We're going to take that and we are going to lay it turn that back. Lay it right like that. and we're going to mark it right down through there. Okay, we're going to cut that off even so that we can stitch it right down through here on this line. See that? and fold that and fold this. Okay. Now then we want to stitch right down through there to sew this together. [Music] And then look at that. It just fits perfectly. You can measure it all out if you want to if that's what your little heart desires, but mine did not. So now then we shall finish sewing this. Turn it and sew it one more time. I'll get back there. Try not to knock you over. All right, there we go. Now then I want to take this and we're going to turn it just to the inside right here. Okay. Can pull those pins out. And we're going to turn it right like this. Just to the inside. And I'm going to start right here on this seam. It holds its shape so well, you all. These little bags do. Okay. And then we're going to pin it all the way around. Okay. Heat. I really have my binding cut too thick. So, you know, about an inch and a half is all y'all need. But I'm just going to leave it sticking up there because I think it's pretty. All right, let's sew this part and then we'll be done. This y'all overheated on me again. Turn your fan on. Got left on and it's the battery's dead in it now, y'all. Hopefully all this will record. All right, let's start right over here. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music]
All right, there's our little tote bag made from a dish drying mat or from two dish drying mats. My binding could be a little bit better cuz it's a little bit wonky. Matter of fact, it could be a whole lot better cuz it's a whole lot wonky. Yeah, y'all overheated on me. Yeah, the binding could be better at the top, but like I said, you don't even have to do that. I think it just needs to be pressed. Um, you can put your magnetic clasp on it. Look at that. Let me bring y'all back over here. Might be a little cooler. Yeah, it might be. I don't know. Got all these lights on and so forth. All right. Now then we can see our tote bag right here. Ain't that cute? Made from a dish drying mat. I love the cherries. This will be cute just to, you know, cart your computer in or, you know, whatever. And it's good and sturdy and stands up on its own. You can throw it in the car just to throw stuff in. Um, makes a great little bag. It's just a great little bag. Two dish dry mats ended up being about seven or eight time I paid tax. My webbing was a couple of dollars. So 10 or $12 is what you've got in this little tote bag. And I know tote bags anymore are relatively inexpensive. Some can be very expensive depending on what they're made out of and what designer's name is on them. But for the most part, you can buy tote bags or reusable bags a lot of places. But you can't have one made by yourself, made the way you want it made. I just think this added a lot to it. Just added some extra this binding at the top. So y'all go make you a dish drying mat tote. Yes. Yes. Yes. Cute as it can be. Turned out adorable. And it was very quick, very easy. It didn't take us any time at all to do that, did it? Look at that. Isn't that just the cutest? I think my computer will fit down in there and stuff that I have to carry up and down the steps all the time. Guess that will be very nice. And the inside, like I said, there's nothing to ravel. Um, there's the inside of it. That's what the inside looks like cuz we sealed that up. So, it's good to go. It'll wash and dry and wash and dry and wash and dry. It'll be so good, you all. So, y'all go make get you some dish drying mats and make you a tote bag. Fun fun fun.
