According to the announcement, BLACKPINK’s 3rd mini album DEADLINE will be released on February 27, 2026, at 12:00 AM EST. This marks the group’s first album release in three years and five months, following their second full-length album BORN PINK, which was released in September 2022.
After such a long hiatus, the fact that the comeback comes in the form of a mini album has sparked mixed reactions among fans. While some expressed disappointment and even speculated that DEADLINE could be the group’s final album, more optimistic BLINKs believe this is only a transitional release — with hopes pinned on a full-length album around BLACKPINK’s 10th debut anniversary on August 8, 2026.
On the same day, YG Entertainment unveiled details about four versions of the DEADLINE album, introducing several notable changes. Most strikingly, photocards will no longer be random — fans will receive a full set of selfie photocards in each album, a move that was widely welcomed. YG explained that although each version carries a distinct mood, all four collectively reflect BLACKPINK’s current identity and artistic direction. The GRAY Ver. focuses on the group’s musical evolution and increasingly refined emotional expression, while the SILVER Ver. highlights BLACKPINK’s powerful aura and wide sonic spectrum, underscoring the depth and versatility of their style. Meanwhile, the BLACK / PINK Ver. stands as a bold declaration of the group’s unshakable global status, reaffirming BLACKPINK’s unique presence at the pinnacle of the music industry. Completing the lineup, the MOOD LIGHT Ver. captures BLACKPINK at their most radiant, while subtly hinting at the path the group intends to pursue in the future.
YG also confirmed that DEADLINE will include the pre-release track “Jump,” a song described as embodying musical growth, stylistic diversity, and strong, dynamic messaging — while subtly pointing toward BLACKPINK’s future path. Notably, YG has repeatedly emphasized the word “future” in its descriptions of the album. This has led many fans to believe that DEADLINE is not simply meant to hype the comeback, but rather to signal that this is not BLACKPINK’s last chapter. Realistically, it’s hard to imagine YG allowing their biggest revenue driver to disband — the real question is how soon BLACKPINK will return again after DEADLINE.
Meanwhile, on January 14, following her appearance at the Hello Kitty event in Seoul, Jisoo updated fans via her app, sharing that her full-length solo album will not be released immediately. She explained that it will come after the group’s comeback and her film project, noting that she is preparing much more carefully this time after learning from previous schedule overlaps that made things feel rushed. While admitting some regret, Jisoo reassured fans to wait patiently, promising that the album will be “very fun.” Similarly, Jennie and Rosé are also reportedly planning to release deluxe versions of their solo albums this year.
Given that DEADLINE is a mini album — likely containing three to five new tracks in addition to “Jump” — combined with new solo material from each member, there will be more than enough content to refresh the setlist for a potential DEADLINE Encore Tour. For this reason, many expect YG to announce the tour after Jisoo releases her first full-length album. With the members juggling solo promotions, it seems unlikely that BLACKPINK will reunite for a full album exactly on their 10th anniversary — unless the songs have already been prepared well in advance. Moreover, if a full album were released on August 8, it would almost certainly be followed by their fourth world tour, a move designed to maximize profits. However, back-to-back intensive touring is simply not realistic for the members. At best, fans may receive one additional single this year beyond the DEADLINE mini album. That said, regardless of the speculation, perhaps the best approach for now is simple: let’s enjoy the new BLACKPINK comeback as it comes.
Meanwhile, on January 15, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo were spotted at Gimpo Airport, heading to Japan for their Tokyo Dome concerts on January 16 and 18. Interestingly, based on Jennie’s Instagram Story updates, it appears the members may have held an early surprise birthday celebration for Jennie on the plane. Meanwhile, Lisa is set to fly directly from Los Angeles to Tokyo, reuniting with the group after attending the Golden Globes.
