The action of the common man has been hurt, that Nanak's father, Kalu, thought this boy has gone astray. Some are lost, many are returning. What happens then? Nanak's shop was not running well, but many shops are running well. But leaving the world of action, he drowned in the world of glory. The meaning of glory is, "What can I do?" And as soon as this thought arises, your ego starts to diminish. The day you realize with completeness that "I am incapable, something different will happen for me, I am helpless," that ego is destroyed. By doing, one gets the body, one gets the world. By the grace of sight, the door to liberation is attained. Nanak says, in this way, ninety-nine percent is God. God cannot be established, so how will you build a temple? It is created, so how will you make idols? He is formless, He is everything. You don't need to make Him. He was there even when you were not, and He will be there when you are not. So, leave the worship of temples, idols, and all that. Those who worshipped the formless, attained glory. If everything is within you, then prayer is worship. If He is everything, then become selfless. Become nothing, so that you can get closer to Him. Put water in the plant, put grass in front of the hungry. You put grass in front of him and water the roots. Great sensitivity is needed for prayer. Small temples are not prayer; they are a trick to escape from prayer. This temple is vast. The state of devotion to service is needed. When the time came to write, his companions asked, "What shall we do now?" He said, "Do not worship. If you are hungry, feed the hungry. If you are thirsty, give them water. If you serve the poor, I am there. If you are angry, and have spoken ill words to someone, and have abused someone, then coming to the temple is of no use. Even if you come to the temple, kneel down, and remember that you are angry with someone, first go and appease them. Because until you reconcile with them, how can you pray?"

He is spread everywhere. That is why Nanak says that worship is service. This service has brought glory. The more selfless you are, the deeper you are within yourself. But one thing must be kept in mind: it is the matter of difference. Are you serving God, or are you serving humanity? This is not service. This is ordinary social service, not worship. It is not so good. And you should be grateful. Then this service becomes worship, penance. The one whose service you are doing is God. You are the giver, and he is the recipient. No, you are the recipient. He has accepted. You gave bread to the poor, and you say thank you. The old Hindu custom is that when you give alms to a Brahmin, you also give Dakshina. You say, "Here, take this." He accepts the alms. You say, "Thank you." What would you do if he didn't accept? First, give Dakshina, and then say, "It is your great kindness that you accepted my service." The day you feel grateful, then service becomes worship, and social service becomes secondary, a religious act. Understand this clearly. If you are uprooted by service, and become a servant, then this is Nanak's worship. Service should make you humble. God will make you humble. Make yourself a servant. The one who stands at the very back will become first, and you will stand at the back. And service means thanking whoever gives you an opportunity to serve. He is formless, He is everything. He is the creator. Nanak says, worship Him. Worship the formless. Worship Him. Meditate on Him. Keep His thought in your mind. You will not be able to take away sorrow. Worship the formless. When you drink water, and that water is from Him, to quench your thirst, then you will be with Him for 24 hours. Then how will you go to the Gurudwara, the temple, and perform rituals? But even when you are eating, your mind is wandering. You are looking at the clock, thinking you have to go to open the shop. How will you worship Him then? Worship cannot be done in pieces. If you have done it, you have done it. And 24 hours become ordinary. Being religious is a 24-hour act. You can never do it. There is no religious day, no religious hour. The entire life is religious. So, this is a different style. You will be surprised, because whatever you do will be in some form. Nanak says, worship Him. Worship Him. Meditate on Him. You are listening to me now. You can ask me, as someone is speaking, or you can listen as if God is speaking. Until this happens in your life, keep His thought in your mind. In this way, you will take away sorrow from your home. After 24 hours, after the hard work, when you return home, you will take happiness instead of sorrow. Now you cry. Now the village has looted you. Someone has picked your pocket. Whatever you ate was not good. There was a complaint. Whatever you wore was not beautiful, it was a compulsion. Now you complain. If you start seeing God in everything you do, and everything you do reflects liberation, then take happiness home. And only then will you go to the abode of God. You will go there full, you will go there complete, you will not come crying. You will come laughing. And if death becomes a friend, then understand that you are returning home. And when you return home, you will have lived your life with joy. Nanak says, "The mind is kept on God, and happiness is brought home." If you are sad, it is only because you are living life without God. You have kept Him aside. You think you are smarter than Him. You trust yourself more than necessary. That is why you are sad. There is no other reason for sorrow. And there is no other reason for happiness. The day you give up your cleverness, your intelligence, and look at Him, and trust Him more than yourself, your wife, your son, your daughter. As soon as your perspective changes, you start seeing Him. If your son dies, you will be sad, not because the son died, but because your perspective is that he is my son. If you had known earlier that he is God's son, you would say, "He sent him when He willed, and took him away when He willed." Then why would you be angry? He is His son. He gave him as He willed, and took him away as He willed. You will be pleased. You will be pleased. Because His ways are His own. Sometimes He gives, and by giving, He creates you. Sometimes He takes away, and by taking away, He develops you. Sometimes He gives you happiness, sometimes sorrow.

There was a Sufi mystic. His name was Atul. His condition was written. If there is happiness, it is understandable because God is the father, so why would He give sorrow? Sorrow is not understood. Hasan was sitting in his name, and another person sat in his name. He said, "The boat is being rowed with one oar. The boat is spinning in circles. We will keep wandering on this shore." The other person said, "Are you crazy? If you row with one oar, we will keep wandering on this shore." Hasan said, "I understand. If you row with one oar, the boat will keep spinning. It will not reach anywhere. I need two oars. Life needs day and night. It needs sorrow. It needs birth and death. Otherwise, life will not start properly." When you see both equally, you understand. You consider both as equal. When you treat both equally, your conflict breaks. You are that. You are beyond. You are beyond sorrow. You will bring happiness home. Guru's word is the way. Guru's word is the Veda. God is contained in Guru's word. Guru is God, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Brahma. Whatever I know, even if I know it completely, I cannot describe it. Because it cannot be said through words. But with the Guru, the whole puzzle is solved. And he sees. The Guru is given great glory. If you call the Guru God, and the Veda, then leave it. Guru's word. If someone says something and there is no company, then leave it. What is the value of the Guru? You have given it for some reason. Some things are important to hear. First, the Guru's words. But the Guru is no longer in the season, nor are the words pure. The words are mixed with the thoughts of the speaker. Their compulsion and their mixing. It's not that they will mix. If I say something to you, and you go and tell it to the neighbor, and the word gets distorted in between, and you have to go. If you use even 70% of what I said, and it gets distorted, then when you speak, your experience, your knowledge, your understanding will be filled in those words. If I give you a flower, and you take it to give to someone. But the dirt of your body will hold the flower. Just as your hand catches the fragrance of the flower, the flower will catch the smell of your body. That flower will no longer be the same. What I gave. And if thousands of hands make a garland of flowers, then the fragrance of thousands of bodies will be mixed. And if that flower comes back to me, I will not be able to recognize it. That flower, which I gave, will not have the fragrance that I gave, because it has been lost in thousands of hands. And it will bring the fragrance of thousands of hands. It will be mixed. It will be spoiled. The incomplete flower will not come to me. I will add to it so that it becomes complete. Then Guru's words were understood. They said, but thousands of years have passed. Much has been added, much has been removed.

To take something from death is ultimate health. This book will be discussed. And the most amusing thing is that when you come, you will interpret it. Who will interpret it? You will read it, you will interpret it. And you will not be able to do more than that. You will impose your ego on the book. Then the book is not yours, you are the Guru's. You have not read the essence of the book, you have started teaching it. That is why there are so many interpretations of the Gita. Whoever reads it, interprets it himself. Krishna is not standing in between. If you wander around, there can be only one meaning of Krishna, not thousands of meanings. If there were thousands of supporters, Arjuna would have gone mad. But who can do that? Even that can change. And this entire Gita was written by Sanjaya. Sanjaya, the reporter. And I am sitting far away, getting news from television. Dhritarashtra is being told. The distance increases. Krishna tells Arjuna, "Arjuna, I cannot give a report. He sees according to his understanding. Whatever he understands, he will say. That is the difficult task. Sanjaya is collecting news. Sanjaya is a reporter. He is telling the blind Dhritarashtra. He is listening. He is speaking from experience. Then thousands of years have passed. And then there are interpreters. They are doing good work. Here, one word has many meanings. Then there is no meaning left in the Gita. Whatever you put in, that is the meaning. Then you impose yourself on the Gita. That is why Nanak, Kabir, Dadu, all insisted. Because by the time they came, all the ancient meanings had become distorted and diluted. All of them emphasized one thing: find a living Guru. His word is the Veda. And when you listen face to face, the change will happen. But at least Guru's word is the way. Guru's word is the Veda. God is contained in Guru's word. Guru is God, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Brahma, Guru is Parvati. If you turn away from the Guru, you will not be able to see God properly. You are searching for God through books. Even the living Guru could not describe Him completely. Nanak himself says about himself that even if I know what I know completely, I cannot describe it. Because it cannot be said through words. What cannot be said through words, you are trying to understand through stories. What cannot be said through words, you are trying to understand through cut-off stories. No, the news of that is only with the living Guru. Not that you will understand what the Guru says, but you will understand who the Guru is. The Guru's presence will explain. The Guru's being will explain. Being with Him, His atmosphere, His climate. Being near the Guru is being in a different atmosphere. At least for that much time, the world is lost. At least for that much time, you are not someone else. At least for that much time, your consciousness gets into a new mold. You are willing to open the window of the Guru for a while. There is no other way. I know, but I cannot describe it. Because it cannot be said through words. If you turn away from this, it is not compassion, it is not saying. It is not going. But with one Guru, everything is solved. That Guru is the one.

It flows in many forms. It waves in many waves. So, do not forget the thread. Then it is in your hand. And the puzzles will be solved on their own. What will you do? How will you manage this Guru? 24 hours. It requires great courage. There will be great obstacles. If there were no obstacles, you would have lost yourself in the world. The ultimate is that there should be obstacles. Because if you get something without obstacles, it is useless. If you reach the destination without a journey, you will wander again. You will not be able to manage it. You will manage what you get with difficulty. What you get for free, you cannot manage. And when you are ready to risk such a vast thing, you have to lose something. One side you have to give, and one side you have to gain. That is why there are obstacles. If you see God in the customer, how can you rob him? It will become difficult. If you cut your pocket and see God in it, your hands and feet will be tied. How can you do evil? If you start seeing Him everywhere, how can you curse someone? How can you abuse someone? If you see Him everywhere. Then you will be in a little trouble. The structure of your life will start to crumble from various places. The house you have built. You have built it in opposition to Him. If you remember Him, this house of yours will not stand. One thing is certain: you will get a very big house. But you cannot see it today. That is why you need gamblers. You need courageous people. People who are ready to leave what they have and get what they don't have a firm belief in. This is not the work of businessmen. This is the work of gamblers. Who puts everything at stake. They don't know if they will get it or not. How can they hold on? No one knows. It requires courage, the courage of a gambler, to walk with Nanak. In this way, all religions become distorted.
