If Earth were one step left or right in space, you wouldn't be alive to hear this. It looks impossibly precise, balanced between fire and ice, inside a gap so narrow the universe almost never hits it. This planet lives on a cosmic knife edge.
Move Earth just 1% closer to the sun, and average temperatures rise enough to start a chain reaction. Ice melts. Oceans evaporate. Water vapor traps heat which evaporates more ocean. A runaway greenhouse effect ignites. Earth doesn't explode. It slowly cooks until it becomes a dry, suffocating version of Venus. No oceans, no rain, no complex life.
Move Earth slightly farther away, and the opposite trap snaps shut. Ice spreads from the poles. White ice reflects sunlight instead of absorbing it. Cooling feeds more cooling. Oceans freeze from the top down. Carbon cycles shut off. Photosynthesis collapses. There is no warning phase. No, almost fine Earth. You don't get worse weather. You cross a threshold and the planet fails permanently.
Yet here we are, orbiting a calm star, spinning at the right speed, tilted just enough, shielded by giants, stabilized by an oversized moon, somehow against a universe that never allows this.
