The Philippine Navy's Naval Defense Commander, NDC, has reported that one of its guided missile frigates, the BRP Miguel Malvar, FFG-6, was targeted by the fire control radar of a Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Corvette in the West Philippine Sea last March 7th.
The incident occurred near Sabina Shoal within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
The NDC labeled the action by the Chinese Corvette with bow number 622 as an alarming and escalatory act, reflecting a pattern of coercion that threatens lawful operations and challenges the sovereignty of coastal states.
The BRP Miguel Malvar, which was en route to Subic, Zambales after attending a multinational naval exercise in India, detected the FCR emissions and promptly issued a radio challenge urging the Chinese ship to depart to prevent misunderstanding.
While no further escalatory actions took place, the Chinese Corvette reportedly tailed the Philippine frigate for several hours before leaving the vicinity.
