Around the Cosmic Campfire by Tony Wright
Chapter Six: The Earring
I don't really remember the outing where I found my high school graduation dress—that was seemingly a millennium ago now—but I do remember it was perfect for me, and I was incredibly delighted to find it. Yellow dotted swiss with a large white lace collar and white buttons. I had never seen buttons like that before, as they were completely round little white balls that did not look like buttons at all. I was even more incredibly delighted when the next week I accidentally found earrings exactly like the buttons while I was out shopping for shoes. How could that be? They didn't just sort of resemble the buttons; they looked like someone had taken a button off of my dress and glued it onto my ear.
I kept the dress for special occasions as I moved into my post-high school life and kept the beloved earrings as well. I became a very young mother at the age of 19, and we didn't go out much due to shallow finances. It was rare I got to enjoy the dress, but I wore it a time or two and then put it away. One evening, we had a chance to go out with new friends, and I got it out of the closet and tried to find my earrings to go with it. And one was not in the jewelry box with its mate. It was nowhere—I mean nowhere—around the apartment. We had just moved from a one-bedroom apartment to a two-bedroom apartment in a different building in the same complex where we were living in Tulsa, and I had not spent any time outside. I frantically took the apartment apart in search of my earring, even taking the mattress off of the bed and the vacuum sweeper bag apart. No luck. I could only conclude at that time, perhaps, that the earring was lost in the last apartment. I felt pretty heartbroken. I would just go on without wearing them, and in short time, with a heavy heart, I forgot about them completely. As usual, I had to acquiesce to whatever is: mine will come to me. Amen.
Many months later, I was taking my son Russ for a walk in his stroller, and we went out around the pool and then to the gazebo where I could sit with him in the shade and out of the summer sun, which could harm his baby skin. It was our maiden journey outside in the new apartment building. As we sat there quietly looking around at the day, something told me to go to the sidewalk and sit down and start digging. The chosen spot was only about three feet away from us. I had learned about those strange messages that came to me a long time ago, and so, heck, I just did it. The sidewalk was raised up a bit from the ground, and I dug a place along the concrete and lifted the dirt and grass away from it. And buried underneath was my white round ball earring. It was frightening to my baby Russ, I'm sure, as I hopped around squealing, "I found it! I found it! Oh my dear Lord, I found it!" And it went on for a couple of minutes before I noted others were peering from across the pool wondering, "What in the world is she doing?"
The chance that I would ever recover that earring, which was buried under the earth beside a sidewalk I had no memory of ever walking down, was pretty astonishing. How does things like that happen? I do not know. It was for sure a message that was being transmitted from some god energy beyond me, and I was receiving it. Again, magically, my antenna in that moment was up; my god station within myself was tuned into higher messages, and I was available to receive. It was just a small thing, but it was just another lesson in my learning about what I could do. Could our angels or guides, or what we might call our oversouls, be moving physical things around for us as we go? Or could we be like chess pieces on a chessboard who are experiencing an exciting game at times as our angels and oversouls gently move things into place for us? Perhaps. Or perhaps we have this divine ability ourselves by just tuning into the god station. Maybe we should be having much more fun than we do. I can only say, "Great move, and a big thank you for the higher-ups for that wonderful cosmic checkmate."
