How you lead us, how you guide us, Lord. We thank you, Lord, for your word. Oh Lord Jesus, you're worthy to be praised, Lord. Oh Jesus, we come together today, Lord, to worship you, to lift you up. And we're thankful for all of it. Even though it was the hottest day of the year so far. Well, it felt like it. It wasn't quite, but it's right up there. It was pretty toasty. And I just spent most of my time in the kitchen. Appreciate those who are outside most of the day. My goodness. I richly bless you for doing that, man. All right. We are um back in Genesis chapter 5. There's still some things we wanted to cover. So, Genesis chapter 5, 21-24. We're going to read it first. Jump back in pretty much to where we left off last week. Not going to review very much because I got a lot to say today. So, Genesis 5, 21-24. Try to find our way back to where we were last week real quick. All right, everybody there? Amen.
And Enoch lived 60 and five years and begat Methuselah. And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah 300 years and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Enoch were 360 and 5 years. And Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him.
Remember the version in um the Amplified Bible. Going to read that as well. Uh, when Enoch was 65 years old, Methuselah was born. Enoch walked in habitual fellowship with God after the birth of Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were 365 years and Enoch walked in habitual fellowship with God and he was not for God took him home with him. Amen.
Um, I don't know if anyone at that time on that given day, we're talking about the day that Enoch left, that he was taken out of the the world. I don't know at that time if anybody knew that God took took Enoch. We read of no fiery chariot or whirlwind. We read of no audience such as what Elijah had in Second Kings chapter 2. Maybe someone actually saw him go up into heaven. Maybe maybe multiple people watched him be lifted out of this world in a visible way and that's how they knew what happened to him or maybe they didn't. The Bible isn't specific about that. But it is specific that he got out of here and it was God who took him. That's what it says. One day those who walk with him, those who live in habitual fellowship, which we have talked about, are going to leave this world. Pastor preached about it this very thing on Wednesday night. I don't know when and I don't know exactly how, but I do know. I aim to be called away. Amen. I mean to be raptured, don't you? And it will be Jesus who calls us out. Jesus will shout for all those who are watching and ready for his appearing to meet him in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Amen.
>> We are only five chapters into the book of Genesis, the book of beginnings. And here we are watching the life of Enoch. How he walked in habitual fellowship with God and how he was literally translated into heaven without tasting death. Thus, we find through Enoch's testimony the very first glimpse just five chapters in a foreshadow in God's word of the rapture. Amen. What a glorious taste of what the future holds for those who are bloodwashed and ready to go. Picture it with me in your mind's eye. Imagine Enoch as he is walking along down the path to his home, headed out to a hard day of work in his fields, thanking the Almighty for the beautiful day he had been given and for the strength to go out and work for his family. Imagine as he is later on in the evening, he prepares an offering and a sacrifice on the altar he has there behind his home. As he lifts his hands and his eyes towards heaven in praise. Think about Enoch as he lays sleeping in his bed perhaps stuffed with straw with his wife there beside him content and at peace with the Lord. Then also can you see Enoch kneeling in morning prayer beside that same bed kneeling beside it again after dark when everyone else is asleep. And no matter where Enoch was in his daily routine of life or his daily habitual fellowship with the Lord, there came a day, there came an exact moment when suddenly the Bible says Enoch was not for the Lord took him. He literally walked out of his life here and straight onto the streets of gold. There were many days when Enoch was living his life on this earth. Had 365 years worth of days living intertwined with God here below on a steady and habitual basis. And then in the twinkling of an eye, he was entering heaven's gates with his earthly eyes wide open. My goodness, changed from here to there. As the song says, he is translated from walking with God here to living with God there in a moment like no other. Amen. Might we be the recipients of such a sweet prize as this? 1 Corinthians 15:51 and 53-55.
Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
Amen. Oh, that we would have the opportunity to share in Enoch's testimony. And oh, that we would one day be able to sit down by the river of life with him and hear his story in detail. And after we praise the Lord a thousand years for his testimony that we might gain his ear and be able to share our own with him about how we never tasted death either. Amen. If we go in the rapture that we might be able to swap stories with Enoch about the fact that none of us had a gravestone. Amen. Which would lead to another thousand years of praise possibly or longer. I think that sounds like something I could get used to. Amen.
When Enoch experienced what Enoch experienced in leaving this life, being taken by God into heaven was due to and the result of his habitual fellowship with the Lord the day to day, week in week out, year after year dedication that marked his long but short life on this earth. But there is also another passage of scripture that gives us further insight into the life of his death-defying spiritual ancestor of who he is and it is found in the hall of faith. If you want to turn to Hebrews 11, this tells us a little bit more about Enoch. Hebrews 11:5. Turn with me. Hear your pages turning. Hebrews 11 and 5.
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Now, it's one thing to have the testimony found in Genesis 5, the one that we've already studied or talked about a lot. Genesis 5, that testimony, Enoch walked with God and he was not. He walked in habitual fellowship with God. But here we have another layer to the quite mysterious life of the man. We don't have his day-to-day activity. We just have this statement of fact that he walked with God. And here we have another layer to this mysterious life of the man whom natural laws were broken for by God. And that layer has everything to do with faith. To have his life nestled in right beside, this is Enoch's life, uh, nestled in right beside and leading up to one of the most important scriptures about faith in the Bible. Tells us much about who this man was. And it also lights the way for what you and I must be as well. We must be people of faith. Amen. And we need only back up just a few verses in this chapter to read the Bible's definition of faith found in Hebrews 11:1.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The Amplified Bible says, "Now faith is the assurance. It's the title deed, the confirmation of of things hoped for, divinely guaranteed, and the evidence of things not seen, the conviction of their reality. Faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses. Faith comprehends as fact this word what cannot be experienced by the physical sense. Sometimes we just have to go and we live and walk by faith. That's how we live our lives. The statement found in Mark 11:22. Have faith in God is a call from Jesus to trust fully in God's power, promises, and provision, believing without doubt that he will act on our behalf. This is a quote by Ian Bounds. Faith is the essential quality in the heart of any man who desires to communicate with God. He must believe and stretch out the hands of faith for that which he cannot see or prove. Also from Ian Bounds, faith is the foundation of Christian character and the security of the soul. When Jesus was looking toward Peter's denial and cautioning him against it, he said to his disciples, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that what? That thy faith fail not." That's in Luke 22. Our Lord was stating a central truth. It was Peter's faith he was seeking to guard. He, Jesus, knew that when faith breaks down, the foundations of spiritual life give way and the entire structure of religious experience falls. Question, do you have faith in God? And if you have faith, could your faith be increased? Of course it can. The prayer of the disciples in Luke 17 and 5 should be ours as well. They simply said, "Lord, increase our faith." They didn't say, "Increase our our works." They said, "Increase our faith." All that other stuff will fall into place. He, He can and will increase your faith by means of testing and trial, growing you in his word if you will allow, and by touching your spirit in prayer. I cannot tell you the number of times I have gone to pray, burdened, heartbroken, worried, and then while in prayer, He reaches in and takes hold of me and causes me to shout the victory. Even though I don't see anything change, oh yes, He can increase our faith. Amen. Mountains can be removed. Doors can be opened. Deliverance can be known. Salvation can be obtained. Victory can be held in hand by that faith. Faith not only gives us direct access to all that heaven has, it gives us opportunity to put a smile on the face of our creator. Enoch pleased God by his faith. I want to do this as well. Don't you? Please.
The Greek word um from I don't know. I practiced it last night, but I don't know. It's how to say it this morning. The Greek word starts with an E. It means to gratify entirely. That means to please. To gratify entirely. It's it's natural for most people to want to please others. I learned early on in life that if I pleased my parents with my behavior, my listening, my obeying, my life was not only better, it made me happier as well. And it made me want to do more things and better things to please them, make them happy. It was rewarding to know that what I did pleased them on a much bigger scale. To know that I, oh wretched man that I am, can please God by believing in Him, by having faith in Him. That gives me quite the motivation to keep on doing so and to believe in higher and bigger ways. I long to gratify entirely, to please my savior by having faith in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:7.
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
It seems Enoch got this right and continued to get it right all of his days. And and again, we can too. God is not asking too much of us. He is calling us to live in a way that not only pleases Him but binds us in communion with Him. During this trial of my faith, I have found my most content place and most productive place is when I am exercising my faith through prayer, through fasting and meditation on His word, studying His word. And it is perfect design of trials that produces higher faith in us. If we will allow ourselves to get comfortable on the wheel again. It's not easy being fashioned by the potter's hands, but it is necessary. And it is something I wouldn't change for all the money in the world. Would you? I wouldn't change it. All the money in the world, and I wouldn't change it for the easier way out. Uh, the quickest result. Sometimes that's what you want. I just want the end result because I, I won't know Him as deeply if I just get a quick result sometimes, will we? We don't know Him. I won't hear His voice as clearly, hold fast to Him as tightly if everything got smoothed over in the blink of an eye. And there's just something about His doing that in my doing that in my life and in your life that reassures us that not only does He know exactly what He's doing, but He has done this kind of thing before. Amen. Hasn't He?
In Genesis 5, we find out some very interesting and wonderful things about Enoch beyond the facts of him walking in habitual fellowship and can do so by way of a calculator and by employing understanding. First, we will use our calculator. And don't be afraid of all the numbers. I'm going somewhere specific. Jared, and I'm think I'm saying his name right. I meant to go back and listen, but I didn't. Jared had Enoch at age 162. That's Jared's dad. Jared was Enoch's dad. Enoch lived 365 years. We know that before God took him. Now, at his age of 65, he had a son named Methuselah. And Methuselah had his own son, Lamech. Methuselah had his son Lamech at age 187. That's when he had Lamech. And Lamech at the ripe old age of 182 had a baby boy whom he named Noah. Now, without drawing a chart in front of you, which I have drawn many charts to try to figure this out and look through the math, let me explain a little bit about this family tree. Enoch, our central figure here in our lesson. When he was translated out of this world, his own father Jared, his own son Methuselah, and his own grandson Lamech, would have been alive at the time he was not. When he got out of this world, his dad was living, his son was living, and his grandson was living. When Enoch left this world again, his dad, son, and grandson would have would have been all possible witnesses of his departure, but perhaps even more importantly, they were witnesses to his daily life before he left, which in turn made his departure make a whole lot of sense. Enoch's grandson, Lamech, would have been 113. His grandson said, 113 years old when God took Enoch home to be with Him. Go to Lamech. Now remember, evil is increasing in the land all around them. The beginning of chapter six is a window into the depravity that is increasing. That's where we're headed. We're headed to chapter six. Of course, the mixing of the world and the church have begun. The righteous, the unrighteous, it's all, it's it's beginning to build up. It was on a steady and sure rise. And the evil that is birthed out of that mixture that God so hates is going to culminate soon in the verses we can read together in verses five and six of chapter of six. Look at Genesis chapter 6, 5 and 6.
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Now, let me remind you, a flood is coming and it's going to destroy everything. But we aren't there yet in our lesson. Yet, how can we ignore it? Enoch is steadily walking with God around 1500 years. I didn't do the math. It was kind of complicated. Around 1500 years or so before the flood. This is Enoch's life is steadily walking with God. And it may not forgive me if the math's not correct, but I know it's it's around 1500 years. Everything that Enoch is and everything his he does is wrapped up in his faith and his walk. And he's not doing anything fancy. He's not doing anything complicated. He's walking with God. He's living with Him, calling on Him, trusting in Him. And what he's doing in faithfulness to God is going to get him out of this world. And also, it is steadily preparing those coming up behind him and beside him for what is coming down the road. It's amazing to think that perhaps one of his, you know, either his dad or his kid or his grandkid, it's amazing to think that perhaps one of them or all of them saw him go up. But even if none of them saw it happen, it didn't change the truth of why it happened. I have to believe that this removal from earth of their loved one by God himself had a profound influence on the lives of his family. Why? Because the wickedness of mankind is increasing. Like I said, at a steady pace by this time. And Enoch before he left, he preached a sermon, a powerful sermon of which his notes are available in the book of Jude. If you'll turn with me, Jude, of course, is the book right before Revelation. Jude, it's only one chapter. Let's read what Enoch had to say. I love that there's so much in here. It's so beautiful, isn't it, as you unfold God's word. Jude 1, of course, verses 14 and 15.
And Enoch also the seventh from Adam prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Enoch had a voice for God. He didn't keep it. He used it. Enoch had a walk with God. And there was no way to keep something something like that hidden under a bushel. That walk, it got passed down. How do we know that? Remember, a flood is coming. Let's look back at Genesis 6. I should have told you to hold your place. It should be quick quick to find. Genesis chapter 6. Let's read verses 8 and 9. Remember, a flood is coming. And that testimony that Enoch has, it's getting passed down. Let's look at it together. Verses 8 and 9.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Amplified Bible says, "But Noah found grace, favor in the eyes of the Lord." This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his evil generation. Listen, Noah walked in habitual fellowship with God. Isn't that beautiful? I love it so much. Before Noah ever had to preach one sermon about the flood to his generation, his great-grandfather whom he never met but heard all about was preaching righteousness to those of his own generation. Enoch had a voice in the book of Jude. Jude though up till now we haven't heard anything he had to say in particular. But here we see the results of a life lived in habitual fellowship with God. A life lived by faith that pleases God. The results of that are a voice of truth and righteousness and a stand against sin and a voice and a walk that got passed down. What you do and what I what you do and don't do, what I do and don't do directly impact those around us and those of the next generation. Enoch's walk with God showed up in the life of his grandson. Enoch's walk with God showed up in the life of his grandson. I have to believe Enoch and his testimony and even his own words were the subject of many of Noah's sermons that he preached in his day. I think about pastors, he refers to his grandfather a lot. Perhaps Noah did the same. Uh, in in all of his sermons, perhaps he brought up Enoch on a regular basis. The Bible says Noah, of course, was a preacher of righteousness. Second Peter 2 and 5.
and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
Hebrews 11:7. And think about this. We've read Hebrews 11, uh, uh, verse 5 talked about Enoch, then verse six, of course, which is so central to our faith, and then verse seven is his descendant by faith Noah being warned of God of things not yet seen as yet moved with fear prepared an ark to the saving in his house by the which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Your walk with God can and will influence the generations to come. How close you walk to God today will have a direct effect, effect good or bad, wonderful or terrible, on those coming behind you. Your own family and your own church family. The way Enoch, the way Enoch lived, it marked even his great-grandson, great-grandson, Noah. Noah, whom he never met. He never met Noah. Noah's knowledge of how his granddaddy served the Lord and left the world perhaps was one of the driving forces behind him being a preacher of righteousness himself. God allowed it to be so. And I pray, oh God, allow it to be so now with us. Only this has to be true. We don't have time. You know this. I was thinking about this morning. I was getting ready studying on this lesson. We don't have time to skip generations. Now I was praying this morning getting ready thinking about I stopped and I, we don't have time to lose. You know that there was such grace during this time that that was leading up to the flood. There's there's all these and we've been living in grace for over 2,000 years. Right now there's not time for this to skip a generation. How much more should we pray? How much more should we live by faith? And how much more should we instill these things into our children and our grandchildren and into each other? Uh, because there's a rapture coming and there's a tribulation coming. There's so much at stake here. Um, what Enoch did in his generation made such a difference um in Noah. And what you know, I know it was hard. We've preached it before and heard it many times and I do believe it. And of course, I'm not teaching on the ark. That's going to be my sister's job. But it would have taken a lot of faith to do what he did. But you think about what he knew about his own granddaddy. My my granddaddy walked with God, but he was not. So building this ark, it's just a faith. More faith. More faith. Enoch had it. I can have it too. It is. It's just. And God doing all of this. This is not men, of course, but God handing this down to to Noah. He had a history. He had a history that he could recall and he had a history that he could preach about and live himself. Such a beautiful thing how God does these things. So amazing. Um, this world of course is playing for keeps. We know that the devil is killing, stealing, destroying because that's what he does. But God makes God causes men to be righteous. Those who will allow it, those who will cast everything to the side, everything in this world to the side, our own selves to the side and take hold of the mighty hand of God, the mighty word that He has and walk with Him every single day, every single hour. Uh, I can't speak for anyone else. I'm not required to, but I will speak for myself. I am more determined today than I have ever been to cling to Him and to serve Him and to let other people see Him in me to pray for those that that are falling by the wayside. Uh, to live with Him, to walk with Him and live in habitual fellowship. It's so wonderful. He's coming back. His reward is with Him for the righteous and for the wicked. I aim to be on His right hand. Don't you? I don't want to be on the side of the goats. I don't. They're cute. Some of them are cute. Some are really ugly. I want to be a sheep here. Amen. What are we doing about it? What are we doing about this rapture that's coming? What are we doing about this tribulation that's coming? No shout will shape our walk. I mean, it's part of it. I love to shout. No attendance will bring about a habitual walk with God, though that's part of it. A habitual walk with God begins in the heart and it is nourished by the word, by His touch. Seek Him out. Serve Him. He will help you. He will give you the means necessary to walk with Him even on the most difficult of days. Don't you know Enoch had them too? 365 days to live on this earth. What man born of woman is few days and full of trouble. That was true for him as well. 365 years of that. So he had bad days. He had good days, but he stayed with God. He stayed with God. And he stayed with God. And he grew in the Lord despite all that was around him, all the steady evil that was going on. And he passed what he had down. I, I only hope to do the same. Psalm 94:18.
When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.
Maybe your foot's slipping today. Maybe your walk isn't as clear as it needs to be. But you know what the psalmist said? My foot slip. He, He's been there. We've all been there. But he said, "Thy mercy, O Lord, what did it do?" It held me up. His mercy is new every morning. And it held me up and it kept me going. What does habitual fellowship look like? I hope you know by now what constitutes a testimony that you walk with God, that I walk with God. It is again nothing fancy. It is not complicated. It is prayer. It is prayer. It is prayer. It is fasting. It is His word. Oh my goodness. It's His word. Don't you love His word? I'm telling you, His word, it's His church. It's commitment in private and commitment in public. Your private walk with God, it spills over into what you now. You can shout all you want in public and if that's not really who you are, it's just going to pass away. If you praise God, that's what made David such a man of God. He, He loved God when he was all by himself. He worshiped God when there was nobody else in the room. I try to do that. I try to lift my hands. I lift my hands in my car. I lift my hands at home. I lift my hands in public sometimes. Lord, You are amazing. I love Him. And p and private worship that just means more personal. And it really comes from the heart. All of that together works together. Commitment to Him when it's just you and commitment to Him when it's everybody else included. Habitual fellowship with God was Enoch's ticket out of here. It was his means of everyday life that proved to be his ticket to the next. What can and will be said of you? How will your life be defined? His life was summed up so briefly yet so powerfully. He walked with God and he had this testimony that he pleased God. A simple testimony with simple words. Walked with God and he pleased God. And listen, when when we live this life, we leave this life the way we should and we're right with God, we're looking for a couple of words ourselves. Matthew 25 and 21 tells us what those words are where it says, uh, it's description of your life as it's finished its course is entering into the presence of the Lord. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Good and faithful servant. Those are the words I want to hear. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated. I lived for Him. I walked with Him. I clung to Him with everything that I had and I made it home. Amen. That's what I want us all to have. That kind of testimony. Let's go together. Amen. I love y'all. >> But I've come here to tell you your help is on the way. So in the midnight hour just lift your hands and say, I know the one who can make a way where there's no way. I know He's more than able to.

You know, yesterday I appreciate everybody came out and worked at the yard sale and for breakfast yesterday. Whether you bought, sold, where you participated in giving stuff. I appreciate everybody. We had a wonderful time. But the best thing I did yesterday was inviting people to church. We gave out a lot of cards. We invited people to church, you know, just tell them, you know, come visit with us, be with us. Uh, so hopefully I'm expecting to see people come in. Let's pray that God will help us to help us. You know, we sowed the seed yesterday. Let's pray that God will help us to reap the harvest. Praise God. Enjoyed that Sunday school lesson this morning. You know, one thing I took out of it is be faithful. Enoch was faithful. Are we? And we've got to be faithful all the way to the very end. Uh, as we open in prayer, let's continue praying for Sister Pat. She's having some problem with her back. Pray. Continue praying for Brother Benny. He's having problems. I appreciate him being here this morning. He told me he had to get all kinds of Tylenol and other stuff in him to be able to make it, but he came. Praise God. So God's going to honor that faithfulness. Uh, continue praying for Brother and Sister Ball, Sister Sandra, Sister Sarah, Brother Dean that God will completely heal him from those old kidney stones. Bring our request to you, believing, Lord God, that you're able to meet each and every need. Lord, that's Sister Amy's situation on her job.
