So, I'm going to show you some simple pump systems with batteries commonly used for waterfed pole. So, none of these that I'm going to show you include water filtration. These are just commonly referred to as waterfed pole pump delivery systems. So, it's literally just pumping the water from a barrel or tank into and up your waterfed pole in order to be able to clean the window. So, this will hopefully help give you a better understanding of how common pump systems work and the different components that you'll be looking for. Whether you wanting to build your own mobile system or it will be very similar in a van system as well will be put together in much the same way. So I'll explain how everything works to help you to make that informed decision when you come to purchasing a pump system, whatever form that may take.
Now first of all, I wanted to show you this is the most basic form of pump system which I've put together myself. Contains a battery. Now you don't have to get a battery as big as this. I got this one just from Halfords. It's a leisure battery. I would really recommend getting the smallest one you can because it will make it easier to transport around. And also I've got a charger to go with this battery also from Halford's so I can recharge it. And it just plugs into the mains at one end and you connect to each of the terminals at the other end. Now that is just connected to the pump over here. The pump is 100 PSI usually about 3 L per minute. 3.5 maybe. This one is actually five lers per minute. Now, that's quite a low flow rate, but window cleaners don't require a high a higher flow rate than that because the water is usually on a very low um flow rate. So, even in my van, I think my van pumps are actually 3.2 L per minute. So, they're quite low.
Then, some chemical applications will use a slightly different pump. You can get pumps 8, 10, 15 L per minute. Um, that kind of thing, which can be better for chemical applications over large areas. But I use this for waterfed pole at first and then later I'd use it for chemical applications as well. You just drop one end then into a barrel or connect it to a tank if you prefer. And then the other end you can just connect either to a hose reel if you want to reel out a longer section of hose or you can connect it to your waterfed pole. You might just need to change over the connectors depending on what connectors you want to use. I really love these little adapters here which allows me to connect to a common garden hose and then my waterfed pole connector will go on here. So I always keep a couple of these handy in the van. And then round the other side here, you'll just notice then I've got the controller. Now this is essential. It just controls the flow rate of the pump. So you can fully adjust it. Usually the working rate will be about 30. Now all the wiring is just connected into this little box here. The wiring is dead dead simple. Even if you've never had any experience doing electrical wiring, the wires are really simple. The controller will come with a little wiring diagram and all the wires are colorcoded and they're all contained in here to keep them nice and safe so that they're protected.
Now, back in the day, a lot of window cleaners used to do things this way, put together their own waterfed pole pump systems. Some window cleaners would do it contained in a box on a trolley like a sack barrerow and do it that way. Um, so this really makes up the basic components for any pump delivery system. Whether that's in your van, whether it's on a trolley, any situation. These are the main basic components on the pump as well. You might also want to include a filter, which will just screw in before the hose connectors, uh, just to make sure that there's no debris that gets into the pump that might be sucked up from the barrel or tank that you're using as well.
Now, if you really don't fancy the idea of putting together your own pump system, then you could, of course, use a pump box like this one. These are commonly available as well. And all this is is everything I've just showed you. All those components pre-built in a convenient box such as this. This one comes from Wind Cleaning Warehouse. There are others are available as well in different places but basically it's all contained here. There's the controller. Inside is a much smaller version of the battery which comes with its own charger and it has the charging point conveniently brought to the front here. The pump is contained there inside with a pump filter is built in as well to make sure the water is um filtered from any grit. That's all that'll do. It's not doing any purification. It's just taking away any grit that might be picked up. And so that protects the pump as well. And the inlet and outlet just come through to these connectors on here. One is obviously to come into the pump and one comes out to your desired hose reel or waterfed pole depending on exactly how you're working. These are actually series 26 connectors on this which commonly used by window cleaning warehouse. So I've just put on short lengths of hose so I can attach whatever I want to the other end. I've got these on common tap connectors. Um, but again, I can use my adapter to fit onto those, which then will go onto my pole fittings, which I usually prefer to use, commonly known as easy connectors or rectus fittings or sometimes series 21. So, they're the slightly smaller ones in comparison to the ones on here. Again, you could mount this if you wanted on a trolley, like a sack barrerow and have barrels on the sack barrerow as well. Or you could use this in a vehicle if there was a tank fitted, for example, in a vehicle or from barrels within a vehicle and then attach a hose reel and then reel out the hose straight from the vehicle. So, so flexible these boxes and so convenient.
Then of course if we move on and show you the backpack. This is a gardener backpack but of course there's similar ones from window cleaning warehouse as well. Now I just wanted to show you this to explain that this basically contains all those components I've just showed you on the previous devices but the battery and pump are all contained in here. There's little controllers on here to be able to control the flow. So, this is probably the simplest, cheapest, and easiest way to get into waterfed pole window cleaning. But I think it's worth saying that the components in here are not as heavy duty as the larger versions which I've just shown you, and so they won't last as long. But window cleaners use these a lot. So, this will hold about 20 L, which maybe would do one small threebedroom house with that. um depending on how quick you are and the flow that you have running through your brush um from the backpack. So you can adjust the flow here with the controls just there. Comes with its own charger and there's the charging point as well.
Now one last one I just want to show you here. Now this is probably my favorite of all the systems I've just shown you. And these are not as common as I think they probably should be. Um, this is just a pre-built trolley system. So, instead of buying a pump box and putting it on a sack barrerow, this is the similar sort of concept, but everything is built in in one place. Um, they're obviously more expensive than the other things that I've shown you, but it's well built. They'll last forever. And the battery and pump are all built into the bottom here. They're a little bit more heavy duty as well. So, this will last you forever. The pump controller is on there, so you can adjust the flow rate as you require it. Um, and I love this. One of the most convenient things about it is because it uses barrels like this, you can have a number of barrels ready to go and swap them over really easily. If you're applying a cleaning solution to a conservatory roof or fasc, this is really great to be able to do that. With a backpack type system, you'd have to wash out the backpack after you've used the chemical so that you can fill it again with pure water. The great thing about this is you can have a barrel that's designated just for that particular chemical. If you label it just to make sure you know that's the barrel you use for chemical, you can put the barrel of chemical on there, then swap it back really easily to your barrel of pure water and then carry on using it with pure water. So, very little fuss, no washing it out in between. Um, you just have to make sure you flush the hosing through that's there that might have chemical in it, but it makes it so convenient. Nice and easy to move around with the rugged wheels like that. It pumps in through the pump. Connect your waterfed pole. You can connect a hose reel, whatever you want uh from there. So, I really love these and I think although they're a little bit more expensive, I think it'll be much easier to work more efficiently and you'll have this for many years to come. Um, and you'll be able to make use of it definitely. So, that's why I love that so much. comes with its own battery pack under there and its own charging uh connection as well to make it nice and convenient.
So, I hope that's helpful for you. There's so many options out there, but those are the main ones. Uh when you're looking at pump delivery systems, you just need to have your own source of pure water, whether you create that yourself or get it from another source like a filling station. Um, you just need to add the pure water to be able to use any of these.
