The Ultimate Travel Hack Airlines Don't Want You to Know

I want to talk about this before we bring our guests on. Um, travel hack. Um, is life's greatest, is life's greatest travel hack: Comfort Plus. Let me explain this. You know, first-class flights have gotten ridiculous as far as pricing is concerned.

"It's insane, bro."

And there's a few, this, this, this is a nuanced conversation because "I won't lie, ever since that one airline went out of business, everybody else has taken the prices up." 100%. Like, you flying from New York to San Francisco for $6,000? Bro, even Houston to New York is going up. Now, it's $2,400. It's like, what, what, what?

And you know what's opened my eyes to this? Cuz, you know, usually always, we, we fly first class unless we, you know, can't, if there's an issue. But we was coming back from Ghana. So, usually that would be like a complete no-go because this is an 8-hour flight and lay-flat. So, there's a lay-flat first class and then there's the regular, you just have a bigger chair first class. The lay-flat first class would traditionally be non-negotiable on an 8-hour flight for us. But we couldn't, we couldn't get the flight and we had to come get back to America. So, it was like, "Alright, whatever. Comfort Plus it is." It wasn't no problem. Like, I, I fell asleep on the plane. I had no issue. It, and we, the, the price difference was probably like $7,000. It was crazy. Like, it was a tremendous price difference, like 70% cheaper.

So, especially on these domestic flights, you fly from New York to Miami, you fly Delta. The only thing different between first class and Comfort Plus is that the seat is about 8 inches wider. There's [clears throat] no other difference. It's not like you're laying down. It's not like you're getting a comforter.

"Yeah, you're still upright. It's, it's the same thing."

Um, now, travel hack. If, if you fly with a company like, we, we fly with Delta a lot, and you know, we have millions of miles, most of the time you're going to get upgraded if there's opportunity anyway. So, now, now you could just book the Comfort Plus seat. There's at least a 50% chance that you'll get upgraded anyway, but you don't have to pay that extra price. When you get upgraded, you're still paying the same price that you did with the Comfort Plus. And if you don't get upgraded, Comfort Plus is not that bad of a deal.

You know, Rich Paul said this on InvestFest stage, and it caused a lot of, he was like, "Look, I fly Comfort Plus because..."

"I don't know why they, they push back on that. He's done it."

He's like, "My goal is to, I'm trying to get to the..."

"...money."

Like, so there's two ways. There's two reasons to travel: leisure or business. The business thing, right? You're trying to get to the money. The goal isn't to just see how much money you can spend. And even the leisure, the leisure part is to go to a place to have fun, to have leisure. Once again, the goal isn't to just spend, see how much money I. I'm either trying to, I'm either trying to get to the money opportunities, or I'm trying to get to leisure.

"But even in leisure, you got to, you got to brainstorm on a business, and that's when your best ideas come."

Nowhere in that situation is my number one priority to spend as much money possibly in a 3-hour, 4-hour window when I'm going to be somewhere for 72, 86 hours. Yeah. That doesn't even make sense when you really think about it. So, I was just thinking about this. I'm like, Comfort Plus might be the ultimate travel hack, especially when these airlines just keep raising their prices with no, with no remorse. Cuz let's be honest, coach is definitely a stigma that goes with coach. And I flew coach my whole life. I don't want to be an elitist. I've flown coach my whole entire life. I know all the tricks when it comes to coach. I, I, you get the second exit row seat because the first exit row seat doesn't recline to the second one. I know all of these tricks.

"Mhm."

Coach is a tough, is tough for me. I'm 6'3". It's, that's, that's difficult for me to do. But Comfort Plus is not that bad.

"Not that bad."

It's really not that bad.

"Not that bad."

Would you fly Comfort Plus?

"I told, I just told y'all last week if I missed that flight with United had to get to Roots Picnic, I, I hit Spirit. I was in 29 something. If you going for the money, for sure, for sure. And I like you said, some, some of the flights, especially internationally, are getting even if, like, if you're going like Houston, Japan, Houston, a lot. Some of those or even to Dubai back. Bro, some of those flights are 16, 18, 20 grand."

"That's crazy."

"It's like, then you get to, and it's a different feeling when you know what you can do with the money. Cuz anytime I spend anything, I'm looking at a 7X multiple. I'm like, bro, if I just took this just in trading, I can get 5, 6, 7X off that. So, um, when I get on that United app, I'm already going to first and business. But if it, it ain't available and I have to be there for sure. Like you said, the goal is to to get the money or not have to pay the money back, cuz they've already paid you in advance to be there. Get your tickets to Podcast Summit in New Orleans on July 7th and 3rd with our brother Dave Shans."

"Shout out to Dave Shans."

"Dave Shans. I don't do a four promo and I ain't seen no clips yet."

"That's a fact. He definitely, yeah." [laughter] "I will say this, if y'all, the, our rider has not changed. Our rider is still business class."

"For sure."

"Um, so don't, don't think that, you know. But all I'm saying is that if I'm having to make a financial decision in the moment..."

"Mhm."

"...I am not opposed to, especially if it doesn't, if it's like a really big difference. It's not if first class is $4,000 and Comfort Plus is a thousand. I..."

"Yo, 679, yeah, yeah. If it's a three, four-hour flight."

"Yo, we got to really think about this. Especially now you couple trips."

"Yeah, I was just going to say it's not just one trip, it's seven trips throughout the year."

"Yeah, and it's like I said, if you doing a couple now, it's two people."

"And oh my god."

"Now, now that $4,500, now that turns into $10,000."

"Easy."

"For it's like, yo, you spending the vacation on the plane."

"On getting there, yep."

"And, and it's not like you're getting anything. It's not like they're serving you, you know, lobster and shrimp and you have the, it's literally us. It's not that much difference. Like, especially if there, if there's no recline. Like, you go to Vegas, they don't even have, a lot of these planes from New York to Vegas, they don't even have the lay-flat. So you got to sit in a regular seat anyway."

"Upright, yeah, yeah, yeah."

"Yeah."

"It's like..."

"And fellas, if you transporting, you might as well put them in 10, 10A anyway, my boy."

[laughter] "That's the mandatory first class is for the wives of my boy."

"But there's no mandatory first. That's what I'm saying. I put my son in coach because..."

[clears throat] "...A, why not? And B, you got to appreciate things. But if any girl, if, how I look at it."

"Yeah, if it's..."

"You dating somebody and they saying, 'These are my mandatory requirements.' Like they have a right..."

"Go home."

"...God bless, get home safe."

"If we swap you out the draft, just was last night. The baddies draft next week."

"I'm not going to put you in the last row of the plane by the bathroom. But if you're too good to fly Comfort Plus..."

"Go [snorts] home. Go ahead."

"...especially if everything is paid for. You're not paying for anything. Like..."

[laughter] "...that's most can't even afford to pay where we going. In fact."

"Exactly."

"Hey, enjoy it. And don't act like y'all always be flying first class anyway. I'll see y'all at the every airport. LAX, Scottsdale, Houston, New York, Newark. And, and it's okay. So, yeah. That's my rant on, um, they're raising the prices and oil then got to its lowest level since March. They ain't adjusted them them prices yet, talking about fuel surcharges. What? This been dropped below 9350, hovering in the in the 60s and 70s. What? But I like I said, once that one airline went out of business, everybody, Southwest hiked up the prices."

"Man, them London flights is woo."

"Insane, bro."

"London flights is dangerous."

"Mhm."

"Like I said, you'll end up spending $12,000."

"You'll look up, you done spent 30, 40 on the fuel of trips. They all, yeah."

"And then you sleep. And like me personally, I sleep. So it's like I spent $12,000 to sleep."

"Mhm."

"That's an expensive nap."

"Yeah, it add up, bro."

"That's an [laughter] expensive..."

"It add up. Yep."

"...nap."

"Mhm."

"Uh, all right. All right. Well, before we bring our guest on. Oh, I will say this. Shout out to Revolt. The good folks at Revolt. You know, they partnered with us. We set it on Market Mondays where they uh sponsored 100 tickets and 10 vendor booths, 50% off. The code Revolt went so well, they actually extended it. So they're doing 50, 50 more. There's 50 more general admission and VIP tickets and five, five vendor booths available. Code word Revolt at checkout and you get 50% off. That's uh general admission, VIP, and um, any booth that is available that's left. 50 tickets left and five vendor booths. Shout out to Revolt. Shout out to Deion, to Tavio. They actually put a statement out. Uh, Deion put a statement out and saying that, yeah, so, you know. It's, it's always collaboration over competition."

"For sure."

"That's important. That is important. So..."

"And you see it throughout the tech ecosystem, too. Like everyone's partnering on chip deals, manufacturing, AI spin, token spin. All, bro, all the money is in collaboration."

"All the money is in collaboration. Get your tickets to Invest Fest. You're a small business. This is your opportunity. This is your opportunity, but only if you serious. Please, you got to be there all 3 days. You got to have somebody working your booth. Take it serious. Take your business serious. "You got to work."

"...or have somebody work."

"You're working for you. Yep. Yep. And, and you'll get the replay. Like a lot of, you know, I don't be moving, I'll be prepping. You are there to work. This is a work event. It's the finals. Some of y'all want to be socialites and then you get to spend it. Shout out to all of y'all in Con right now, okay? When, when October come and them statements get to hitting, boy. You got to pay them quarterly's."

"Business school."

"What?"

"It's going to be a different Con."

"And A Con."

"A Con."

[laughter]
